OMG!! You have access to my google account!! Lol I literally have been googling do’s and don’t with gel polish! Quick ? Can you use regular nail polish and then topcoat with gel Basecoat and top gel??
You can! You have to wait for the regular polish to dry 1000% before gel top coating. Or you might get a wrinkle within 10 minutes or sooner. I often do this because I have a ton of regular polish vs gels.

I’ve been attempting acrylics / gel polish at home for months now and literally 99% of the “don’t” things you covered in this video I have been doing and could never understand why my polish would run, my thumbs always peeled first (and way before any of the other nails) I could go on and on…!! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video; you explained things so well.

If your UV light is old and you’ve used it for a while that will definitely play a part in your gel not curing right. Are usually pills off. Mouse shells to cure with the sticky residue after curing the recommended amount of time. You would wipe it off with the lint free wipe and with ManiQ Cleanser. 💅🏻🤍✨
Thank you for all your videos. I have learned so much. I have one week left of school for nails 💅 Your videos have really helped step up my game in class. I will be leaving with a client list. 😍
my problem is cuticles I get rid of them, but I have stubborn skin around my nails and no matter how much I tweeze pluck cut. It’s still flaky around the nail and I am moisturize daily, so I don’t know my problem. 😭
Make sure you are only trimming the dead tissue and not healthy skin. If you over trim them & cut healthy tissue, it can grow back as thicker scar tissue. Nip off any hangnails as needed but keep the cuticles hydrated with cuticle oil and exfoliate occasionally.
I set up my led lights on a slightly higher level, I set it up on a sturdy small box on my working table. I am able to dry my 4 fingers easily, and then I apply my nail gel on my thumb and dry that easily by turning my thumb.
Question when doing thumbs you said paint the other hand while the first hand is curing under the lamp. If I'm doing the nails by myself how does that work?
If you are doing your own nails then you wouldn't be able to work that way. You would need to wait for your hand to finish curing before you could do the other hand.
Hello I bought this polygel set on wish list I am a beginner and this is my first time using the stuff I just wanted to know there's a bottle of unbalanced soak off I think that's a 7 oz and the other one is a slip solution I want to find how to do my bottles because I'm a first-time beginner show what should I do first to do my polygel nails I am not good at doing nails only the ones I buy at the store my name is Veronica from Barstow
I do my own gel manicures & pedicures. I’ve mastered the gel on my toes but my hands it’s definitely trial and error. But this video has helped me tremendously I will be able to apply these tips next time I do my nails.
Out of curiosity, if a client has had the 4 fingers cured, why not have them slide their hand in top-side-down so the thumb is facing upright in their palm! Buckling the thumb seems more awkward than just flipping the hand over. Loving these videos, btw!
The reason you would not do this is because the gel is sticky after curing. If their nails hit the table or the inside of the lamp, it scuffs the sticky layer and there is a possibility of getting hair or fuzz on them. Second point, hand lamps are not large enough to have the hand in that position. The client would most likely scrape the polish off or most likely not get the thumb in all the way and have a bad cure. Hope that helps
I have learnt so much. My gel polish nearly always chip. May I suggest that You ask your client to rest her thumb on the edge of the table with the remaining fingers "hanging" off the table. That should not cause any discomfort and the thumbnail will cure in an even position. Nevertheless. This video was very informative. I know now why my gel was bulging on the sides..
No, a dehydrator is usually a alcohol based product, protein bond is different again and used to add product to help the acrylic or gel to better adhere to the nail.
How do you prevent lifting at the free edge? I like to keep my nails very short and square and apply on my natural nails. Even with capping the free edge, I will find that the corners of my nail will lift and peel from there. I never have lifting at the cuticle and I feel like my prep is great especially at my cuticle but I don’t know how to fix the lifting at the free edge
If it's chipping as you filing, you are probably either applying your product too thin or are filing too aggressively or with too coarse of a file. We recommend using our Safety Bit-Coarse to take down bulk of your product and then either a medium arbor band to refine around the cuticle or a 150 grit hand file. Anything coarser than that can actually start to break down the bond to the nail and cause lifting.
Nope. Our gel polishes polish plush. It looked perfect when I was done. However other companies you have to be very careful and do a paper then or it’ll shrivel up or not care correctly.💅🏻✨
Question... How come you don't buff nail before base? Won't it make nail better or with your products... You don't need to buff? And no capping? I'm not a pro, just trying to learn from you Nevermind, just watched you cap at the end
We don't recommend buffing as it makes the nail smooth and product, especially gel, adheres better to a textured surface. We remove shine from the nails with a 150 grit sanding band, cleanse with swipe and apply protein bond before applying base coat.
I've gotten in the habit of curing my thumbs separately. I'll pull my lamp to the edge of my desk and stick my thumb flat on the desk under the light with my fingers under the desk (if that makes sense). I just don't feel like it's curing well enough if I don't do it like that lol. Also, I paint a glitter polish on top of the brush handle of my topcoat that I only use over glitter. That way I never forget which one it is
So instead of manually buffing the nail you would rather use a rough drill… I don’t understand why people are so lazy that they have to use a drill as opposed to a buffer which is a lot easier on the nail and the skin around it… I just don’t get it why everybody has to use a drill been doing it for 30+ years and I am just as fast if not faster without a drill oh and it doesn’t damage the nail and it doesn’t make those fire rings and a lot of other things thatdrills do…. Gel polish is not an artificial Enhancement. Gel polish is just a polish that has some gel in it that helps it adhere to the nail to stay a little longer. Enhancing is lengthening and building.………
Hi thank you for your comment. When a tech is properly trained an electric file is a great and safe way to do nails. We would never want to use an aggressive bit on the natural nail, we always recommend a medium grit arbor band which is the same grit as a medium grit file. We also show how to just remove the shine, not remove layers of the nail plate and cause rings of fire. It’s all about proper knowledge, you can create just as much damage with an electric file as you can a hand file if not properly used. Gel polish (at least ours) contains no polish, it is a pure soft gel. We consider an acrylic or hard gel overlay as an enhancement, so for us we also consider gel polish a type of enhancement that needs proper prep. I hope that helps.
I am properly trained in a drill also but I still know that buffing by hand the word buffing being the operative word here is easier on the nail than any drill bit
@@joaniemoscatello8942 they make different bits with different grids from a reason. Some are used for the natural nail and some simply are not. Like I always say what sets us all apart is that we all do it differently. 😉😊💅🏻💖✨

Welp. I was thinking about trying gel nails but after minutes of not understanding anything-leveling, protein coats, etc--I've decided this is too much for me to manage.
Another Great Video!! Been there done that!! It is hard to try to remove gel that runs into the sidewall but now I will check each nail before they go into the light. Thank you Melissa!!
Love the video so much. It really helps🥰🥰 I got war flashbacks when you take out the fuzz 🤣🤣 I remember one time a client put her hand under light. When she took it out, there's a HUGE fuzz cured in 🥲🥲🥲 she touched her clothes and got it stuck right before putting it in light. I almost cried.
would love if you used the pronoun they/them. I'm a guy and it really sucks when this channel says she/her when talking about nails. I do my nails so I stop biting, but hearing just she/her makes it feel like it shouldn't be for guys. There are many reasons that people do their nails and gendering it perpetuates that it ahold only be for one gender, regardless of the reason.
When you watch her videos and you watch us prep the now before application of product, follow everyone of those steps. Swipe plays a huge part in prep. It removes any oil‘s or debris off the nail. Then you would go into Protien bond.

Melissa- "don't buff the nail"
Also Melissa- *buffs nail with efile*
I'm so confused
I think she said just buffing isn't prep. There's other steps that are part of prep.
Buffing the nail is different then using a 150 grid. A buffers to smooth and your polish or I should say gel polish will peal or chip!

Honestly whatever works as long as they’re curing properly. Meaning the light is able to reflect on every direction of the fingernail.
The reason you would not do this is because the gel is sticky after curing. If their nails hit the table or the inside of the lamp, it scuffs the sticky layer and there is a possibility of getting hair or fuzz on them.
Do you have or use practice finger forms with more ethnic tones?
I think this hand is a combination of tones now that I’m looking at it! That’s just how it comes. 💖✨
That’s a good question though. Hers is not with such high-quality & it only comes like the one you see us using. 💖
Since you can't use Stain Resistant over a gel service, what do you recommend using for clients who are hairdressers? Is Gloss stain resistant? Thanks for yet another great video! Trying to perfect my polish application and this helps a lot.
Yes, Synergy Gloss is a stain Resistant! 💖💅🏻✨
I'm so thankful for this video. This was my first time doing gel nails and I was kind of skeptical about my skills lol but you have given me so much more confidence to keep going
Thank you so much! I’m so happy you enjoyed it!! 💅🏻💖✨
Oh wow!.. I learned so much in this and all your videos. I recently started my UA-cam journey and the tips and techniques you guys teach are truly amazing. I feel so blessed and fortunate to be taught by all of you at young nails. Saving my coins so I can get some of your amazing products!.. what is the very first things would you suggest for me to purchase?.. although I do have quite a bit of nail supplies I would like to start building on and with good quality products and equipment. Why does it take my gels to dry so long. I have a 36w mini lamp. Do I need a new lamp? Product to thick?.. thanks again

How can I buy young nail brand products??
Where are you located?
Is it nécessary to dry the finger with the machine ?
Yes, gel polish does not cure without a UV/LED light.
What color is on the technician's nails? I've been looking for that nude pink for over a year!
It's our concealer pink synergy gel (hard gel)

Then hold their fingers up underneath the table
If they are positioning their hand that way, the tech isn't able to hold the fingers or move them in order to polish properly.

Where is your problem at? By the cuticle or side walls? Just asking because when your done filling, I use the Medium Cross Cut and or the the Diamond cuticle bit around the perimeter and it leaves it flawless! 👌🏼😉😊😊💖

Thank you! I've been struggling with this as a novice!
You have got this now!! 🙌🏼🤩💅🏻💖
Your so welcome!! 🤩😉🙌🏼💅🏻💖
Omg!!!! I finally know how yo apply mail polish to my shorts nails and they look like I hit them done at a salon. Thank you thank you I am a subby
😉😊💅🏻💖✨
It sounds like the keep saying y'all polish
Gel polish! 😉😊✨💖💅🏻
Love the video so much. It really helps🥰🥰
I got war flashbacks when you take out the fuzz 🤣🤣 I remember one time a client put her hand under light. When she took it out, there's a HUGE fuzz cured in 🥲🥲🥲 she touched her clothes and got it stuck right before putting it in light. I almost cried.
Thanks for sharing! We hope you liked this video on gel polish application.
would love if you used the pronoun they/them.
Great tips! Love these types of videos. Any tips for anyone with oily nail beds that can't keep product on?
When you watch her videos and you watch us prep the now before application of product, follow everyone of those steps. Swipe plays a huge part in prep. It removes any oil‘s or debris off the nail. Then you would go into Protien bond.
@@mjaydelacruz8496 Thankyou 😄
Hi, I am a newbie and wondering what u used on the brush to remove excess gel polish from skin 🤔 please and thank you 😊
Melissa your hands are really beautiful !
Thank you!!
