  • The brush chasing method is the easiest way I've discovered to get my type 4 curls to straighten with just one pass of my flat iron.
    Tip 1: Blow dry your hair the day before, to cut down on the amount of heat applied to your hair in one day. (I used the Rev Air dryer.)
    Tip 2: When flat ironing, sectioning off medium-sized columns and do small sections at a time, working your way up the column, as demonstrated in the video.
    Tip 3: Thoroughly detangle each section, before starting the chase method.
    Tip 4: Only do one pass over each section to prevent damaging your curls.
    What you need:
    1. Rat tail comb (for parting)
    2. Couple hair clips (for holding sections of hair)
    3. You favorite flat iron
    4. Denman brush (for detangling)
    5. Soft boar bristle brush (for smoothing hair in the chasing method)
    Heat Protector used: IC Fantasia Heat Protector Straightening Serum
    Flat Iron: Nano Titanium by Babyliss Pro
    Heat Setting: About 375 - 385 degrees F

    I just tried this tonight and it really worked. My hair is really thick and hard to straighten so I was skeptical. But I was so happy to see my hair straight.

    I have been doing this for 19 yrs now lol also try Garnier Fructis straight and sleek line -- it will give you sleek results and weight without the oily hair look.

      Yes. I just looked up their video. They both do the chase method with a boar bristle brush. I wish I knew about it earlier on. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching. ;-)

    I no longer use heat on my hair but I have seen a brush used specifically for this purpose. It is even shaped like a flat iron and you use it the same way.

    How many days/weeks do you maintain the straightened look before washing hair? Also do you moisturize during the week? & if so, how often/how many times per week?

    • @CoachShaunie
      @CoachShaunie  4 роки тому +7

      Hi Malika! 😁 I'm gonna wash my hair after 2 weeks. To moisturize, I typically add a few drops of hair serum before brushing it (focusing on the ends).

    Does this work for my 4c ends?? Bc the ends are puffy as hell and I don’t want to trimming my hair

    • @CoachShaunie
      @CoachShaunie  3 роки тому

      This works for tight curls, yes. If you're not comfortable straightening and trimming it yourself, I recommend visiting a professional stylist to do it.

    Lovely hair. I'd so love to see you review Straight Silk by JuniorLabs. Literally maintains my hair silky straight 👍🏾❤️

      Thanks for the suggestion. However, I'm not too focused on silky straight hair. I'm working on maintaining healthy curls. 😉

    Hello I’m learning about Afro texture hair and I just wanted to know are you supposed to use a lot of oil for straightening? Because I noticed the oil makes the hair look limp/heavy and greasy instead of silky and flowy
    thank you!

    • @CoachShaunie
      @CoachShaunie  3 роки тому

      Hi! I wouldn't recommend using oils to straightening your hair. 🙅‍♀️

    • @412mystic
      @412mystic Рік тому

      Yes you can but VERY sparingly. It depends on the hair texture. I have very very fine type 3b hair and it helps protect it. Or try a serum

    • @CoachShaunie
      @CoachShaunie  3 роки тому

      Don't see why it wouldn't. 😁 I would advise doing a quick deep conditioning treatment before. A moisturizing treatment, NOT a protein deep conditioner. That should help to soften up your hair.

    What setting do you use on the flat iron? Like the actual number that translates to approximately 375

    • @CoachShaunie
      @CoachShaunie  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Jade! The temperature setting on the iron is from 1-50. I think I had it on 35. Settings 31 to 40 ranges from 365 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
