The best thing about those chryslers in that era were the spoke-wheel/ hubcaps & their AMAZING interiors!!! Ive never seen leather so beautiful and rich !!!
This is not just a screaming deal, this may be one of the best deals of all time. Its practically new. Even though its over 25 years old. Congratulations on a fine purchase. I hope you keep it.
That's an awesome car, the last one I owned was also an '82. I had an '88, '87, and '86. The '88 was my first, back in 1999, and I wanted to replace the opera light on the driver's side. I was told that if one could be located, the price would be around $300 because of the unusual design. I'll be watching out for another though to fix up and keep for a good long time.
Wow, that's an amazing car for the price. Someone locally had the same car, only an 86. It's for sale for $3500, and is triple burgandy. All original. Wish I could buy it, but, the wife says no. I'll just have to keep looking for the next gem.
These cars were notorious for breaking down after 3 years or so. My father worked for chrysler back then and he told me there were a large amount of New yorkers he help build that were just sitting there collecting dust. They looked high class even for today's standards. I guess this is what it means to put all your eggs in One basket
Eleven hundred bucks? Wow, were you lucky! And in great shape too. I would hunger for a car like that! Yours has a 318, doesn't it? That's the engine to have; a small number of 1982 and '83s had the Slant Six. The 318 became the only engine available in the M-bodies starting in 1984.
Awesome. You bought yourself a new car for only $1100. Doesn't use much gas, practical box styling, 5mph bumpers and stunning compared to modern cars (which cost about $20,000!). No need to buy a more expensive car than your neighbor; these cars are in league of their own.
This car would have been equipped with either a 225 Slant Six or a 318 cu v8. These were fairly economical runners. They weren't the huge New Yorkers of the seventies, they were based on a larger version of the Aspen/Volaré platform.
BUDDY, I LOVE YOUR CAR! such a beauty ... the colors are perfect so sharp with the navy top, sterling finish and navy leather. Please cherish your new purchase - hell, why go and get a new car for 500 - 600 per month when you can buy this for cash and that's it???? what a great deal!
Yes I'm commenting 11 years after the fact but I had a car just like this one.. I owned it for about one year in the mid-1990s and then traded it with someone for a 1983 Trans Am... He had a family and I was single at the time so it seemed like a logical switch for us... Both cars hed a V8 but were slow as horsepower sucked overall in the early 80s
Nice vehicle, I had a 1981 Chrysler Lebaron I had from my grandpa ran like a dream. However the computer in the car sucked and would die all the time. Wish I would have kept it and get a refurbished one. I always regretted it.
My Uncle and Aunt had a 1985 they have been Chrysler people since I was born I rembere they held on to there 1964 300 until they bought this 1985 New Yorker
I wouldn't replace the locks on it. If you happen to lock yourself out by mistake, then you don't have anything to put your wire hanging around LOL. That happened to me twice in my gran Fury. My gran Fury is not in as nice shape as your Fifth Avenue but mine has 22400 original miles on it. The person who had it let it sit out in the sun in South Texas and it was under a tree and the paint is faded in many different places even though it was in the shade. The Shady Parts have their gloss, but the parts that were in the sun are definitely flat black and has a few good dents on the side with one nasty scratch running down the passenger side. That must have been from some piece of lawn equipment or something that got propped up against the car
Nice car, I used to have one as a daily through high school. But honestly, this is a prime example that no matter how clean and new looking it is, they will never sell for a great amount of money. Not sure why.
BUDDY, I LOVE YOUR CAR! such a beaty ... the colors are perfect so sharp with the navy top, sterling finish and navy leather. Please cherish your new purchase - hell, why go and get a new car for 500 - 600 per month when you can buy this for cash and thats it???? what a great deal!
As in Chrysler's idea to compete against Cadillac? The 1977 LeBaron (which is the same car as this, but with slightly different styling) would have been the main Seville competitor at the time.
Wow! Absolutely beautiful car! I just read someone's comment, which is something I was wondering myself...how's the car doing now? I mean, for the price you paid...it sure was a steal. I'm worried there was something the seller didn't tell you. I hope that this beautiful car is as good as it appears. I'm absolutely jealous! :)
I wish i could get one, i always liked the old New Yorkers. Thought i have never rode in around, but it look like's a smooth beautiful car. Hey, check out my 1987 Cadillac Sedan Deville and let me know what u think of it. It has only 82,XXX miles and i payed only 2,500 and brought it off craigslist in brand new condition.
man shes clean. unfortunately i gotta sell mine because of my other 3 cars.. 700 bucks and yet no ones bought it yet, i think they are afraid of faded paint...
wikepedia 1980 lebaron fifth avenue t see pics and details..awesome article. In response to my previous comment, the 1980 LeBaron Fifth Avenue..gotta see it!
This body style was built through 1989. In 1990 it became a FWD car with a V6 with Fuel Injection. Chrysler built a smaller New Yorker based on the K car platform until a redesigned bigger New Yorker was introduced in 1988.
that car is fabulous..i own a fifth avenue too..1987 and its not this nice.. repainted and bondoed up ..looks good now but my interior is great.. needs headliner..outside stored car.. hot rodded the motor.. 300 hp.. runs greatwashed n waxed.... thats a gem
The best thing about those chryslers in that era were the spoke-wheel/ hubcaps & their AMAZING interiors!!! Ive never seen leather so beautiful and rich !!!
I hope that car is still as beautiful today as it was when this video was made.
This is not just a screaming deal, this may be one of the best deals of all time. Its practically new. Even though its over 25 years old. Congratulations on a fine purchase. I hope you keep it.
Wow, it is a nice example of one. I wasn't a New Yorker fan but this is what they looked like brand new. Very nice and well kept.
$1000??? great find! beautiful automobile! my dream is a 93 fleetwood brougham, but this is just as a classic!
That's an awesome car, the last one I owned was also an '82. I had an '88, '87, and '86. The '88 was my first, back in 1999, and I wanted to replace the opera light on the driver's side. What a GREAT old car! Love that interior and the seats!

How did somebody sell this car for $1,100? People must not care about getting any money for their cars. Great find.

Definitely a Gift from the Big Guy! what a steal my friend, she is a gorgeous yorker.

Very nice car. My grandfather have a 1985 Fift Avenue:-)
Great American classic.....Before Nafta and everything else messed up the country.
The Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue, the perfect car for a Police Commissioner or Police Chief in any big city.

I recently purchased a 85 Chrysler fifth avenue. In good condition. Only 900$
The family across the street from me had one of these in white!
Gorgeous!
Did you know the 1980 Lebaron had a special model just like this before the 1982 model? Yours is a beauty and a steal!
I have an 82 white burgundy leather interior sunroof is my parents car I take it the car shows its showroom condition
You won the lottery!
I wouldn't replace the locks on it. If you happen to lock yourself out by mistake, then you don't have anything to put your wire hanging around LOL. That happened to me twice in my gran Fury. It's actually a Fifth Avenue not a New Yorker my mom used to have one hers was an '85 she bought it secondhand once
Until 1984, they were sold as New Yorkers/ Fifth Avenue Edition. Then they dropped the New Yorker and they became known as simply Fifth Avenues.
Nice car, I used to have one as a daily through high school. But honestly, this is a prime example that no matter how clean and new looking it is, they will never sell for a great amount of money. Not sure why.
You lucked out big time !!!! It is GORGEOUS !!!!

I'm fishing for comments here but does anyone out there think that these cars where a match for the 76 seville?
As in Chrysler's idea to compete against Cadillac? The 1977 LeBaron (which is the same car as this, but with slightly different styling) would have been the main Seville competitor at the time.
Perfect 🥰

I suppose 1982 was the first year for the Fifth Avenue cars and they stop in 1989 and 1990 that's when they come out with the New Yorker cars

agreed
Do you still have this car? This is a car like My Grandaddy had when I was a boy. Same interior. Any interest in selling?
Nice 😀
It's sweet's car(GTA sanandres) 😊
@321whatinthefuck simply turn them counter clockwise to unscrew, then screw on some from a ford car without the mushroom top.
Nice
