    Thanks bro, I'll certainly be looking to improve the gears on my rolling mill now...not as scary as I thought it might be. Keep up the good work.

    When the rollers are far appart take a piece of foam or fabric and wrap it around one gear, experiment with thickness and material to make it work, it will take up some slack in the gears and it actually makes other so you can get the rollers even further appart than stock ❤

    Thanks for doing this video. It just popped up as I was researching the VEVOR Milling machine. I am going to pick one up in a couple of days on Wednesday. It will have to be enough to get me started for a while. I will definitely be doing this mod if I have the same problem. Thanks!

      It's for sure a good place holder. Start saving for a durston or pepe tools mill though. It'll work for you for a while but you'll want to upgrade it. Glad I could be of help!

    Nice vid, I like it when people are just honest about their mods and are willing to post whatever results. @15:56 Kinda looks like the gears are just meshing in an unfortunate way. I wonder if this is with the mill opened past its specs.

      Could be that. Once it gets down to a certain point it's fine. It's just a pain when you have something slightly bigger to roll down. It'll do for now. I'm just going to try avoiding bigger stock until I upgrade.

      How big of an Ingot “stock” can you roll down with that vevor rolling mill?

    I think you're running into the problems of trying to move involute gears away from their designed centers. If you notice the contact points between gears, the points that they 'hang up' are well removed from where you tried to grind the gear faces. This is a 'cheap' way of giving the machine a reasonably useful maximum stock size. If you really want to improve the gearing, you need to look at a chain drive with a tensioner. Nice review, though! Thanks
    (don't forget that the same problem exists on the other side of the roller :) )

    You can probably cast gears for taller heights out of zamak or a hard bronze. That's what I plan on doing if mine has a similar issue when it shows up.

    I have this mill and I love it. Do you think of could switch out the rollers with the decorative rollers?

      Not sure. I replaced mine with a Durston a while back and gave this one to a friend. Let me know if you try it!

      Oh man I’m trying to acquire a rolling mill. Wish you were my friend lol. No but for real, you’re an awesome dude, keep up the awesome content 👍

    How wide does it open without getting stuck? Like at what height of the rollers does it roll smoothly at? What is the biggest or thickest Ingot or “flat stock” you can roll down with this vevor rolling mill?

    • @codydagutis6639
      @codydagutis6639  Рік тому

      It was right around 4-4.5mm for flat. Maybe a little bit more for square wire. You'll want to use a small ingot mold. I eventually upgraded to a durston. This got me by for a little while though

    You tested before you greased up the gears. If you greased them, did it change the binding any further?

      At the end of the day it really ended up just being the tolerance of the mill itself. It really can't roll stock much bigger than I think 4 mm

      @@codydagutis6639Thanks, I appreciated your video. I'm in the market for a rolling mill and was looking at the lower priced versions. I've been making billets of mokume gane and have been pounding them out by hand. That hasn't been nearly as much fun as someone may think. I Have to get a rolling mill with larger capacity.

    Once the rolls are opened past a certain point this will happen no matter what you do. Have the exact same problem with mine just means there is a limitation on how wide the rolls can be opened to.

  • @waliza001
    @waliza001 2 роки тому +2

    But it says in manual thath max opening is 5mm. You have like 10 or so. No wonder it is jamming.

    • @codydagutis6639
      @codydagutis6639  2 роки тому +1

      Mine didn't come with a manual haha so it was all guess work. I was just expecting it to be able to roll ingots. The molds I have are about that size or just a little bit more. The flat sheet mold I have is about 5mm I'm pretty sure. It did work a bit better after the mod but it really does come down to the tolerance. Thanks for letting me know about the tolerance. Getting a manual would have made it a lot easier to figure out haha

    Think the tips of the teeth need a lil rounding off

    • @codydagutis6639
      @codydagutis6639  2 роки тому

      Yeah I probably could have rounded them a bit more but ultimately it was an issue with the tools tolerance. The mod did help a little bit but it really can't handle stock bigger than like 4.5mm

    Cheap Mill....you should have 2 sets of gears....that way they engage more smoothly and consistantly....and the father apart you have your rolls, the less engagement you have of the gear set...

    Harden your gears before you put them back on. Just saying
