I have the same Pepe Mill, I love it. But what I love even more is your integrity and honesty in telling viewers you got it for free, and how and why. I think it's great that you did and that you are working with Pepe. They are lucky to have you reviewing them. You are an asset to any tool company simply because of your candid honesty and integrity!! And, Pepe is AMERICAN MADE! ahh! Ps. Check out Pepe's squared ring mandrel, it makes gorgeous ring shanks, my customers prefer them absolutely.

This Pepe Tools rolling mill is fantastic. I've had one for several years. You are showing there is the one I have recommended to dozens of other jewelers. Its Nowhere near as expensive as the only other could possibly compete with it . And the quality is phenomenal. I've had the pleasure of speaking with them directly I had one complication with my mail in the very beginning, they were very quick to assist and solved every problem. Customer Service is perfect. And you probably won't need the warranty but it has one.

I appreciate you breaking down the good, bad, and ugly about the cheap rolling mills vs quality. I’m what you’d call a “serious hobbyist” in that I’m an artist, older and just beginning to do metalwork, but always hunt for the best quality I can afford, or the least expensive tool that still retains essential quality. I was leaning towards a $300 Indian made rolling mill, but ended up getting one of the smallest pepetools machines (90mm combination mill) -while I would’ve liked having more sizes of wire rollers, and a bigger space for flat metal, this little machine is extremely well designed and for its size provides a enough room for everything I’ll actually need to use. I’m very pleased with it. Made in USA is more then icing on the cake- it’s a necessity.

Another thing to consider is the quality of the materials and workmanship in an "economy" versus a high-end rolling mill. I bought one of the economy ones off of Amazon... the point where the 'steel' roller met with the gears crumbled! I used it gently, did not try to force metal through it. (I tried to post a picture of the broken piece but couldn't). Of course, the seller did not stand behind the roller. So, it was a total waste of approx $300. I have had a Pepe rolling mill for several years now, and LOVE it! It is definitely a case of 'you get what you pay for' in rolling mills. Save for an extra couple of months to get quality.Take it from somebody who learned the hard way!

I have the same Mold, the same blue rolling mill and Yes you guessed right, the same Ingot. I’ve made an ingot and the rolling mill won’t roll it. I don’t have pounding equipment to pound the ingot into a thinner piece. So stuck with this problem. I’m now looking at rolling mills. It seems obvious what was the problem, but I just didn’t see it. I have a Pepetools furnace, I bought 20+ years, forgot it many times under the rain, but still running like a champ👍👍👍 I also bought the same blue indian rolling mill that you are showing. The frame where the small gear is attached broke 2 days ago. I cannot use the mill anymore. If you are going for the indian mill, make sure you are using an ingot no more than 2 mm thick and take very small increments or you will be sorry.

I got the blue one recently in the UK for £160ish with the five extra rollers.
I tried it on a small silver ingot i cast to 5mm thick it wouldn't go through it as the top roller lifts high enough but it disengages the drive cog - so only the bottom roller turned!
I was so disappointed about this - so as long as the metal is actually 4mm or less it does work

It is very important that when you make the first purchases of jewelry tools you buy the important ones from the professional and not the economic range. Jewelery is a long-term investment and therefore it is necessary to have professional tools such as rolling mill, polished motor, ultrasonic machine etc. Thanks for the video, honestly I was looking after the economical rolling mill, and I needed a video like this to understand exactly his problems and how useful he is. Also professional mills also produce Durston, Mario di Maio, Cavallin and of course Pepe tools. It is important if you have a bigger budget to buy one with a gearbox, it helps that the laminated sheet does not make waves and you don't need that much strength.

I really want a rolling mill 😩 I’ve been looking at the Durston entry mill but it’s just soooo expensive, a little cheaper than the Pepe one you’ve just shown, but still too much money for me. Even the economy mill like your old one is on the pricey side for me at the mo, but I’m not going to be making my own sheet and wire, so I’m still considering it.

@@PepetoolsUSA It's a beautiful mill! That is the cost from an authorised distributor in Sydney before shipping to my studio. (I can't lift it) It's just that many tools reviewed by channels are American tools, reviewed by American craftspeople in American $$ so when the conversions are made it can deflate the enthusiasm a bit. I don't begrudge this. It just does make a difference when considering big ticket purchases. I use one of those cheapies now but I do hope to upgrade to something better one day.

Starving Artists Collective completely understand! The import cost are quite high and I wish we could make it more economical! However there is absolutely nothing wrong with an economy mill, it does the job and works for you then there’s nothing wrong with that! Gotta use what’s best for you

Just a heads up for any Canadian Jewelry Makers the PepeTool is around 1,100$ CAD + Tax and the blue one he has is a "No name" brand by Jewelers Tools company and costs around 500$ + Tax with the 2 flat rollers and around 700$ + Tax for the combination mill with multipule rollers all around the same price depending on if you go with an 80mm anything for smaller mm will cost even more so expect to pay double the price as of what is referenced in the video

So this video was made some time ago now. I still have the pepetools rolling mill and have used it a lot. That blue mill works for sure but like I said in the video it doesn't open as much as it needs to to roll out ingots into sheets.
You can make it work for sure but it really is a case of you get what you pay for. I have seen a lot of these cheaper mills with broken gears overtime.
And of course it's not 100% non-biased due to getting the better mill for free but honestly I was going to buy one before I got this sent to me anyways. 😁👍
