    When you blended your sp487 with your CAC wax, did you have to increase the thickness of your wooden wicks from a .02 to a .03 or was the .02 enough? I know this video is a few years old now but have you tweaked it since or have it basically stayed the same since then? Thank you

    If you like to be able to write on your tester strips, Rustic Escentuals has wider testing strips. They are SO much easier to write on. I’ve tried several WW fragrances and for the money I’m spending, I EXPECT a strong throw. I use their vessels, but know I can spend the same amount of money with other suppliers of luxury FO’s and get more bang for my buck. Thank you for this video. I have combined coco ap and 486. I’m on to mixing other waxes. I love learning new wax combos! Many blessings and much love to you! Beautiful studio by the way!!

    20% is the boosting wax is the perfect percentage if you’re mixing waxes. I evidently watched this another time! Your videos are so soothing. Testing never stops does it? However, I get really excited when I blend 2 FO’s and come up with a new FO! I’ve been blending waxes for awhile and it really does help with my CT and HT! Thank you for sharing this video, Sweetie!

    Ooooh !!! I'm so excited for this!
    Your videos have been so helpful while getting started in my adventures in candlemaking! After losing my job to covid at the beginning of 2020, I started making candles as a hobby, just to stay busy (I was driving my bf up the wall re-arranging and deep cleaning our house with all the free time I had!). I realized pretty quickly after how much joy and sense of purpose it brought me. It's really cool to try and match a scent to a mood, a moment of nostalgia, or a favorite song (try burning white sandalwood + smoke and listening to Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here"). Now I hope to start my own business as a way to help support my family while also being able to set a schedule that allows me to be more available to them day-to-day.

    I’d like to live in America just to make candles! We have so many regulations here, (UK) for selling. So we can’t mix fragrance oils, without sending them to be tested which costs lots. Same with essential oils. You can only sell them if you buy a companies already mixed, regulated, oil with their safety data sheets, CLP warnings for labels, and Max 10% fragrance load. Basically everything has to be tested if you want something unique. Same with soap, in-fact that’s harder. Anything you add to a soap base has to be sent for testing. It just adds loads of extra money. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I’ve always loved burning candles and it wasn’t until the pandemic hit that I realized I loved making candles... here’s the back story. With so much forced time home I found myself “empty” and needing to fill that emptiness. Hmmm what do I love? Seafood but not really into cooking for others. Wine however not wanting to be a connoisseur. Candles hmmm possibly so did some research bought a kit made some candles and fell in love. I find it relaxing even the “stressful times” I’m enjoying this ride. Creating scents, designing labels sniffing my curing candles lol I just love it all. Hey! Amazing videos, first off - you're so helpful thank you! I was wondering if you could elaborate on mixing with sp 487. As far as how much power lb, and would it be beneficial if I'm using virgin coconut soy from WW? I'm not impressed with the hot throw I'm getting, and considering testing with vybar 260. I'm also using aura vessels from WW and am soo lost on wicking. Currently I'm running all kinds of tests, including double wicking with cd4, and going down from .03/.625 wooden wick to the. 02 because like you said it was burning too hot and I was having way too much soot. I'm interested in blending with sp487 if you think it could help my HT as well a wicking issues. Thank you so much in advance!

    Hello, so I got my coconut apricot wax from 16/17 and my vessels from wooden wick co, I use a .02 cracking booster wick .75 but a lot of people told me that it should take about 2 hours to reach a full melt pool but they also use a soy wax and when I did some testing last night (for the 10th time) it didn’t take long to get a full melt pool. I wanted to know your insight because we use the same products as well as where can I find that other wax that you use because the flame from my wick dances a lot.

    • @HawthornCompany
      @HawthornCompany  3 роки тому

      It will 1000% come down to your fragrance oil. I have some fragrance oils that act crazy in coco apricot, where as others are completely tamed. You’ll have to test every oil, and I have had to wick down to a .02 crackling booster .625 for some. Or, you can take out the old wick with pliers and try sliding in a .02 whisper booster .75 which is far more tamed than the crackling booster in most scenarios. Even if you mix in 487 like I did, this may be the scenario still. If you pull out the wick, use pliers and rip it out, but make sure to soak the new wick in a little bit if the wax and oil (I just use a heat gun on the top and rub the new wick in it before putting it back into the wick clip). Let it sit for another 8-24 hours for it to cool back down and for the new wick to absorb the oils again, and then try lighting it. If you put a dry wooden wick back in without soaking it first, it won’t give you accurate results. Hope that makes sense!

    • @BudgetWithBey

      @@HawthornCompany you are amazing. I was using a .625 at first but I couldn’t get a full melt pool, it was tunneling

    • @HawthornCompany
      @HawthornCompany  3 роки тому

      Yeah some oils the .625 is too weak. I have a few that burn crazy hot though that need it but honestly I also use these gold jars and they get hot faster since they are coated in metal, so that plays a part too. If you’re using the matte vessels then they probably don’t get hot enough. Try the .02 whisper booster wick instead .75 size and let me know the results!

    • @BudgetWithBey
      @BudgetWithBey 3 роки тому

      @@HawthornCompany I have the matte and the glass vessels. I’m experimenting with the white translucent aura vessels. What is a good amount of time it should take to reach a full melt pool ?

    • @HawthornCompany
      @HawthornCompany  3 роки тому +1

      I look for a full melt pool by the second or third burn, usually in 4 hour increments. I don’t want a full melt pool on the first burn, I usually want 1/8” left on the sides. The aura jars taper to 3” so if you wick for 3.5” there’s a chance the jar may get too hot at the bottom of the jar since it’s more narrow.

I was thinking of what to add to my business and something I could make and brand. Candle making fell on my lap 🤗. It would make my day to get a starter kit that contains pieces I actually lean towards.🙏🏽

    Did you say lower FO % creates larger flames?

    • @HawthornCompany
      @HawthornCompany  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah from what I’ve tested so far, this doesn’t apply to all FOs of course, just a generalization. I get higher flames at a lower %, which is great if you’re struggling with drowning issues.

      Sounds like the flame is too big then. Can I ask what wicks you are using and which wax? & how much FO? Jar diameter? Coco83 isn’t super great for wooden wicks, not sure if that’s what you’re using, but I loooove it with 12% FO and double cotton wicks (CDN wick series) with 2-5% beeswax or 25% 486 or 487.

I started with 6006 and have wanted to switch to coconut waxes but as you know it is always sold out. Thank you so much for your help and everything you do! Opening diameter- 2.67in. Width 3.15in.

      Since you have the 83 try it with 2% beeswax and double CD wicks with 12% FO ♥️. I used to love that combo, such a great throw. CDN would be better but you probably have CDs already. good luck!

    I homeschool my children and making candles is less calories than drinking cokes to relax. When your child walks up and hands you a coke and say "I think you need this,", it may be time to make a candle. It gives you the ability to be creative, and shows a little of your personality (and saves children from push ups lol).

    Omg! I just picked up SP487 on accident! Now I know what to try. I just started making candles. Haven't quite gotten it down. I've been struggling with fast burn off... this is awesome! I started doing candles because my husband loves, I mean LOVES candles and he loads up on them when he's gone on deployment. He buys a lot because the smell goes away fast. So I'm set on making him some that will last with a great throw the entire time he's on deployment. I have 3 weeks left to get it done! I'm going to try this recipe. I also ordered WW Opopanax + oriental musk to make for him all based on your last video reaction when you opened it to smell it. That alone sold me! And I'm definitely trying Egyptian linen + Lavender bud mix since I couldn't get a good scent throw.

      Ohhh you should do a 487 test and we can compare notes! It would be helpful/fun to hear someone else’s feedback on the blend. And girl yes 🙌🏻 the Egyptian and lavender combo is awesome. Also try it with wildflowers if you have it, it smells so good.

      SP486 and S487 are available at www.swanscandles.com they are really awesome. We've gone a few times last month to pick up from him. Both SP waxes are harder waxes, SP487 is made more for pillar waxes and SP486 is a container wax. Both are vegetable waxes.
