When you blended your sp487 with your CAC wax, did you have to increase the thickness of your wooden wicks from a .02 to a .03 or was the .02 enough? I know this video is a few years old now but have you tweaked it since or have it basically stayed the same since then? Thank you

I’ve tried several WW fragrances and for the money I’m spending, I EXPECT a strong throw. I use their vessels, but know I can spend the same amount of money with other suppliers of luxury FO’s and get more bang for my buck. Thank you for this video. I have combined coco ap and 486. I’m on to mixing other waxes. I love learning new wax combos! Many blessings and much love to you! Beautiful studio by the way!!

Ooooh !!! I'm so excited for this! Your videos have been so helpful while getting started in my adventures in candlemaking! After losing my job to covid at the beginning of 2020, I started making candles as a hobby, just to stay busy (I was driving my bf up the wall re-arranging and deep cleaning our house with all the free time I had!). I realized pretty quickly after how much joy and sense of purpose it brought me. It's really cool to try and match a scent to a mood, a moment of nostalgia, or a favorite song (try burning white sandalwood + smoke and listening to Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here"). Now I hope to start my own business as a way to help support my family while also being able to set a schedule that allows me to be more available to them day-to-day.
I’m so new to candle making and really struggling to find the wax/container/wick/fo combo that will look beautiful, smell great and burn clean. Wondering if you suggest this 80/20 blend all the time or did you just decide to use it with the gold Auras?

I’d like to live in America just to make candles! We have so many regulations here, (UK) for selling. So we can’t mix fragrance oils, without sending them to be tested which costs lots. Same with essential oils. You can only sell them if you buy a companies already mixed, regulated, oil with their safety data sheets, CLP warnings for labels, and Max 10% fragrance load. Basically everything has to be tested if you want something unique. Same with soap, in-fact that’s harder. Anything you add to a soap base has to be sent for testing. It just adds loads of extra money. 🤷🏻♀️

Hey! Amazing videos, first off - you're so helpful thank you! I was wondering if you could elaborate on mixing with sp 487. As far as how much power lb, and would it be beneficial if I'm using virgin coconut soy from WW? I'm not impressed with the hot throw I'm getting, and considering testing with vybar 260. I'm also using aura vessels from WW and am soo lost on wicking. Currently I'm running all kinds of tests, including double wicking with cd4, and going down from .03/.625 wooden wick to the. 02 because like you said it was burning too hot and I was having way too much soot. I'm interested in blending with sp487 if you think it could help my HT as well a wicking issues. Thank you so much in advance!
I loved burning candles before loving MAKING candles. For me, it all started with the challenge of learning something new and use my creativity. That's how Candle Hugs and Co. was born. THANK YOU for sharing all your knowledge. Loving your videos!
Hello, so I got my coconut apricot wax from 16/17 and my vessels from wooden wick co, I use a .02 cracking booster wick .75 but a lot of people told me that it should take about 2 hours to reach a full melt pool but they also use a soy wax and when I did some testing last night (for the 10th time) it didn’t take long to get a full melt pool. I wanted to know your insight because we use the same products as well as where can I find that other wax that you use because the flame from my wick dances a lot.
It will 1000% come down to your fragrance oil. I have some fragrance oils that act crazy in coco apricot, where as others are completely tamed. You’ll have to test every oil, and I have had to wick down to a .02 crackling booster .625 for some. Or, you can take out the old wick with pliers and try sliding in a .02 whisper booster .75 which is far more tamed than the crackling booster in most scenarios. Even if you mix in 487 like I did, this may be the scenario still. If you pull out the wick, use pliers and rip it out, but make sure to soak the new wick in a little bit if the wax and oil (I just use a heat gun on the top and rub the new wick in it before putting it back into the wick clip). Let it sit for another 8-24 hours for it to cool back down and for the new wick to absorb the oils again, and then try lighting it. If you put a dry wooden wick back in without soaking it first, it won’t give you accurate results. Hope that makes sense!
Yeah some oils the .625 is too weak. I have a few that burn crazy hot though that need it but honestly I also use these gold jars and they get hot faster since they are coated in metal, so that plays a part too. If you’re using the matte vessels then they probably don’t get hot enough. Try the .02 whisper booster wick instead .75 size and let me know the results!
@@HawthornCompany I have the matte and the glass vessels. I’m experimenting with the white translucent aura vessels. What is a good amount of time it should take to reach a full melt pool ?
I look for a full melt pool by the second or third burn, usually in 4 hour increments. I don’t want a full melt pool on the first burn, I usually want 1/8” left on the sides. The aura jars taper to 3” so if you wick for 3.5” there’s a chance the jar may get too hot at the bottom of the jar since it’s more narrow.
I enjoy making candles and learning from candle creators like yourself. I never knew my love for candles would turn into my first entrepreneurial venture. Currently, I am in the process of launching my business this year once I’ve perfected my craft! 🤗
Heyyy I love your videos and content btw and your soft voice lol , I love making candles because it’s very therapeutic for me on top of my obsession with candles, I’m still perfecting my craft but I’m excited to be on this candle making journey and I can’t wait to launch.
Loved your video! What your doing is really awesome. I started making candles for family members just for fun and I feel it's so relaxing for the home. I had leukemia for a while a while and after remission it was my relaxation outlet. Your fun to watch, much success to you. I love candle making!
I'm new to candle making. Recently had a heart attack followed by triple bypass surgery. Fell in love with the creativity. I enjoy your videos so much. You provide great information.
I just bought some of this vegetable wax! I’m so exciting to try blending with my Coco Apricot. Would you still use the Crackling Booster: .02 Wood Wicks?
I started making candles as a therapy I battle anxiety. It’s been my outlet. I bring awareness to the Mental health community. My husband was super onboard because he says I don’t drive him “crazy” anymore 😂😂😂😂😂 so it’s a win win. happy wife happy life right! 😬
Thanks for sharing. ❤ I'm going try the cardamom tea + grapefruit with the santal + black cardamom. I have tried egyptian linen + lavender buds with oud patchouli + resins together for my sister, she loved it. I have also tried palo santo + sage with sage + lavender! I have less than a pound of cac left. I may as well try this blend lol.
I would love to try this, But I have no bribe game, I just love your style and never heard of these waxes until I saw your Channel but I love selenite. You make candle making look like it could be super sweet & fun! 💝

Did you do the DIY for the FC base? I have a gallon of it too and definitely garbage. Would love your formula to salvage it before switching to another base from WW.
I just started making candles for myself and to give to family and a few friends just because. I like surprising them. I love making candles and trying different scent combos just to see how they turn out. So far only one didn't smell good, it smelled like burning dirt.
I’ll do a full update soon. They turned out amazing!!!! I am in love with this blend. I’m going to try different fragrance oil percentages next, I’m curious to see how well the wax performs with a higher fragrance load
It’s super tricky to wick, it’s very frustrating but it does have a great hot throw and it looks beautiful. The 487 made it into a whole new wax!! You’re going to love the blend, a lot of people have tried it already and are getting great results 🙌🏻

Congratulations on your 1k 😁 I started making candles with my daughter a couple months ago and we always have so much fun with the fragrances, waxes, and other items in our candles. I am learning so much. Thank you😁🤗

You are awesome for sharing such in depth knowledge from your perspective. I love your description of the fragrances. I was thinking of what to add to my business and something I could make and brand. Candle making fell on my lap 🤗. It would make my day to get a starter kit that contains pieces I actually lean towards.🙏🏽
I just started my small business I love making candles but everytime I go to order coco apricot it’s sold out /: even competitors. I love making candles bc the process is unique & different for everyone.
Have not started making the candles I dream of making because all my $ has been going to moving. Once I settle down w a friend until I can find a place I hope to get started. I can really use the therapy at this time. Thank you 💕
Yeah from what I’ve tested so far, this doesn’t apply to all FOs of course, just a generalization. I get higher flames at a lower %, which is great if you’re struggling with drowning issues.
Sounds like the flame is too big then. Can I ask what wicks you are using and which wax? & how much FO? Jar diameter? Coco83 isn’t super great for wooden wicks, not sure if that’s what you’re using, but I loooove it with 12% FO and double cotton wicks (CDN wick series) with 2-5% beeswax or 25% 486 or 487.
@@HawthornCompany 7-8% FO, 6006, 16oz calypso jars from Glassnow. I've tried new and old HTP, LX, Zinc, CD, cottonwood. I started with 6006 and have wanted to switch to coconut waxes but as you know it is always sold out. Thank you so much for your help and everything you do! Opening diameter- 2.67in. Width 3.15in.
Since you have the 83 try it with 2% beeswax and double CD wicks with 12% FO ♥️. I used to love that combo, such a great throw. CDN would be better but you probably have CDs already. good luck!
I love making candles because it's a great mental escape for me and leaves my home smelling amazing. I also love creating and can't wait to combine my love for candle making with my love of writing. SN: I love Cashmere + Vanilla! I mix it with 2 non WWC scents and it's delightful. It almost smells like a perfume. I can't wait to try that new chocolate scent you paired with it!
Congratulations on your 1k subscribers!! I have been at this candle business for a bit now and still love to learn more your videos are great!! Enjoying your journey!!! I started by making cupcake candles of all things!! I had no idea what I was doing and under wicked most of them🤦♀️I didn't even measure my FO!!!! I've come along ways since then(I think so any ways) no more cupcakes!!
Congratulations on +1K subscribers!!! This is too excited, and maybe just maybe it could be the first candle I make and also a good git for my husband :) Good luck everyone!
I homeschool my children and making candles is less calories than drinking cokes to relax. When your child walks up and hands you a coke and say "I think you need this,", it may be time to make a candle. It gives you the ability to be creative, and shows a little of your personality (and saves children from push ups lol).
Congratulations!!!!I love making candles because it allows me to have a small business at home. I dont have to find a job, earn doing what i love and see every growth of my 3yr old with my own two eyes
Omg! I just picked up SP487 on accident! Now I know what to try. I just started making candles. Haven't quite gotten it down. I've been struggling with fast burn off... this is awesome! I started doing candles because my husband loves, I mean LOVES candles and he loads up on them when he's gone on deployment. He buys a lot because the smell goes away fast. So I'm set on making him some that will last with a great throw the entire time he's on deployment. I have 3 weeks left to get it done! I'm going to try this recipe. I also ordered WW Opopanax + oriental musk to make for him all based on your last video reaction when you opened it to smell it. That alone sold me! And I'm definitely trying Egyptian linen + Lavender bud mix since I couldn't get a good scent throw.
Ohhh you should do a 487 test and we can compare notes! It would be helpful/fun to hear someone else’s feedback on the blend. And girl yes 🙌🏻 the Egyptian and lavender combo is awesome. Also try it with wildflowers if you have it, it smells so good.
SP486 and S487 are available at www.swanscandles.com they are really awesome. We've gone a few times last month to pick up from him. Both SP waxes are harder waxes, SP487 is made more for pillar waxes and SP486 is a container wax. Both are vegetable waxes.

Just curious was the 11oz the total weight including fragrance if so should you get 80%/20% of 10oz wax
Yes that is correct!

@@HawthornCompany you are amazing. I was using a .625 at first but I couldn’t get a full melt pool, it was tunneling
Candles are the bomb digity plus im a beginner and so far im loving the process and i liking watching you!
Oooh my how awesome! Would this be never even had the opportunity to smell or use such luxurious scents. I love your aesthetics.
Loved your video! What your doing is really awesome. I started making candles for family members just for fun and I feel it's so relaxing for the home. I had leukemia for a while a while and after remission it was my relaxation outlet. Your fun to watch, much success to you. I love candle making!
Oh wow you are a fighter!! Much love to you ♥️. I’m happy you were able to find something you love doing 😍
Oh my god!! I never thought of trying Lavender buds with oud patchouli, I should try it too 😍
I would love to try this, But I have no bribe game, I just love your style and never heard of these waxes until I saw your Channel but I love selenite. You make candle making look like it could be super sweet & fun! 💝
Where did u get your calculator?
Hi it happened to me too with flaming Candle and the base very upset
Where did you purchase your calculator please?
Hi Jessica, Where did you get that calculator? Lol I love it
Started out as a hobby. Now I'm obsessed with making candles!
Your studio is beautiful! I am receiving my first order of WW apricot soy wax this week 😊. I am interested in working with the blend you are sharing here. Also, am going to try mixing the WW FOs for new scents! I love making candles because it is relaxing and fun and I enjoy the challenge of creating a perfect beautiful candle with an amazing scent and HT!
What camera set up do you use
Love making candle there are so many things you can do with wax
Hey, I dont know if you are aware of this or not but I have tried to go to your website several times and I get a warning message saying this site is not secure and warns that the site may be highjacked with hackers trying to impersonate the owner to obtain my private information. Is there any other way in that is secure?
Great video looking forward to hear how your candles performed with the SP wax.
Love watching this video and learned so much about candle making, my favorite part is the fragrance information..
Thanks for being here 🙏🏻♥️ glad I could help!
Did you do the DIY for the FC base? I have a gallon of it too and definitely garbage. Would love your formula to salvage it before switching to another base from WW.
I never touched it after the first attempt, I didn’t like it at all haha
I just started making candles for myself and to give to family and a few friends just because. I like surprising them. I love making candles and trying different scent combos just to see how they turn out. So far only one didn't smell good, it smelled like burning dirt.
I love your sweater 😍.
Hahah thank you!!
I would love to know how the candles turned out. Can we get an update?
I’ll do a full update soon. They turned out amazing!!!! I am in love with this blend. I’m going to try different fragrance oil percentages next, I’m curious to see how well the wax performs with a higher fragrance load
@@HawthornCompany I am going to order the SP487 because the Coco Apricot was not what I expected. I am looking forward to the update.
It’s super tricky to wick, it’s very frustrating but it does have a great hot throw and it looks beautiful. The 487 made it into a whole new wax!! You’re going to love the blend, a lot of people have tried it already and are getting great results 🙌🏻
no hablo ingles, pero me interesa muchisimo aprender con las cera de coco y apricot, por que no haces alguna traduccion para los latiinos , gracias espero lo hagas
Candle making has been so helpful for me in these stressful times. It’s such a fun hobby I’m glad I picked up. It’s so fulfilling creating something that I enjoy and able to gift to others. This kit would be so helpful! 🤍🤞🏽
Congratulations on your 1k 😁
I started making candles with my daughter a couple months ago and we always have so much fun with the fragrances, waxes, and other items in our candles. I am learning so much. Thank you😁🤗
Beautiful Candles and your shop is gorgeous. Thank you for teaching, your information is so helpful.
Thank you so much 😍
I love making candles because it allows me to combine my artsy and nerdy side. People don’t realize the science and testing that go into the process!! And I love math...candle math is fun lol
Loving your scent combos! :)
They turned out great! Hope the hot throw is good too though lol I guess we’ll see
I just started my small business I love making candles but everytime I go to order coco apricot it’s sold out /: even competitors. I love making candles bc the process is unique & different for everyone.
Ugh yeah it’s sold out everywhere 😭😭 it wasn’t like this a few months ago!
Have not started making the candles I dream of making because all my $ has been going to moving. Once I settle down w a friend until I can find a place I hope to get started. I can really use the therapy at this time. Thank you 💕
Did you say lower FO % creates larger flames?
Yeah from what I’ve tested so far, this doesn’t apply to all FOs of course, just a generalization. I get higher flames at a lower %, which is great if you’re struggling with drowning issues.
@@HawthornCompany sooting is my issue not matter what. Just ordered some coco83! Thank you for your response!
CDN would be better but you probably have CDs already. good luck!
I love black Amber too. It's my favorite. How many jars your beautiful cabinet can hold?
It can hold 9 aura jars per shelf, so almost 300 jars
@@HawthornCompany wowww. I love that. Thank you so much for replying
Where do you get the sp487 from
Swans candles
Making candles is a means of escape for me while also creating something beautiful and aromatic.
I love making candles because it’s my mommy time. It’s like meditation to me 🤗
I homeschool my children and making candles is less calories than drinking cokes to relax.
I have just started my small candle business with my family and your videos really help!
Hi 😊
I loved your video!! I want to try and make candles, I did not pour any yet!
Thank you for the info you are providing🙂
.
Ok ladies where do you get these awesome waxes from? The sp487 from? I'm new and only tried WW coconut soy wax
What is the difference between sp487 and 487?
I will do that. My new WW come in Saturday and I have my blend ready! I will let you know. So excited.
SP486 and S487 are available at www.swanscandles.com they are really awesome. We've gone a few times last month to pick up from him. Both SP waxes are harder waxes, SP487 is made more for pillar waxes and SP486 is a container wax. Both are vegetable waxes.
