I just want to say that I am thankful for you and ALL your content. Long or short videos doesn’t matter. I like the long ones because It makes me feel like we are hanging out. People need to remember that they are NOT entitled your precious time.
I am from pakistan and love ur plants. U r my teacher sir.
What do other people care about what YOU spend on plants? If I want a plant and can afford the asking price and feel like it will bring me joy then that's my decision to make, not someone elses. People amuse me, so worried about what other people are doing. I love the advice I get from you. I'm a total beginner and live in a very small town in Arizona, USA. I'm in the mountains, almost 7000 ft and semi arid climate so it's been a real learning experience.
Definately never waste an opportunity to film for us in your awesome new space. More of this great video please! 😊
26:26 I think of dividing or taking cuttings from young/new plants to be like an insurance policy. I like to keep them in water or moss in a plastic container. When the original plant is ready for a repot, I usually add the backups back to it to fill it out a bit.
Surprised that new vid is up this soon. Was gonna watch a film tonight, but this is even better. 🍿🎬📺
Thanks :)
Hi Jan, the space is great and the lighting, nothing to change :)
Thanks :)
Love this format for a change. It’s casual but still so informative, always something new to learn. Keep them coming 👏
Thanks :)
I watch you from France, I adore your vidéos ! Please don’t stop it. Thanks for your sharing😊
You've really inspired me and given me the confidence to get into making/using moss poles! I'm even bravely taking my more precious plants and starting to work them into a pole situation! And the insights/tips/experiences shared are invaluable, I always take something away from your videos and get excited to try something new! Thank you!
Thanks so nice to hear :) thank you!!!
your moisture meter explanation makes so much sense ! thanks 💚
I don’t know how I missed this video from months ago. I enjoyed it and here’s the two best takeaway from your content, Jan.
It’s when you said “I just don’t appreciate that whole idea of let’s try to do as little as possible but expect most amazing results.”
Another one went something like results are a reflection of your effort…your effort doesn’t always need to be working hard. You can also be working smarter. Wise words! 😁
The pot with a bunch of tiny anthuriums is incredible!
I appreciate you and you sharing your thinking about plants. I am a big fan.
Thank you :)
Love all your plants❤☘️❤! Thank you so much! Now I dream of the same jungle at my home 😅
I love that term “death plug”. I received a plant the other day and it had the weirdest net thing which took quite some effort to get off. I’ve enjoyed this repot session, thanks for taking us along.
I've changed over to using a similar style moss pole(with clear plastic back)and it's a game changer! Especially living in a drier climate. I love seeing all the fuzzy, happy roots growing 😁
I am so appreciative of the information you share in all of your videos. I am new to aroids and am learning so much by watching your videos! Thank you for being so thorough and entertaining!
Yay :) Thank you for watching ! Happy growing !!
Jan... LOVELY!!.. I really like this video. Your idea is so brilliant and useful for beginner like me. At home I and my brother were doing the same...repotting our outdoor plants. I can learn many things from this video (new experiences that answer my curiosities about indoor plants). Jan....I admire your gorgeous plants in this Anthuriroom. I'll always miss them because I can't forget my funny moment with the Anthuriums ( They are all different and it turns out that they have been seen since being still small plants..😂..). I like your Anthurium clarinerium. It looks elegant eventhough it's still small. (When you pulled it out of the black pot, I screamed!..I saw some healthy roots... and They are!... The roots are so sexy!..) Jan....This afternoon I and my brother discussed about your video (dioscorea discolor). He likes you. He said, "Jan has a brilliant idea. Here we see all his plants climbing on the tree to the top of the tree in our rainforest. Jan has arranged them on the moss pole nicely in his apartment." And I replied, " Yes, That's right!.. Jan has got our little rainforest inside his apartment..😂..He's soo lucky!.." Jan...Thank you soo much for everything... BRILLIANT!!..💞♥️💐🌸🥰💚😊..
Really enjoyed this video, Jan! Love the new space.
Thank you :)
Hi Jan the lighting was great the new space looks fantastic. Ermm where was Brad was looking for his tail to pass the camera 😊
He was sleeping in the lounge room :P thanks :)
These are very beautiful plants, and on the way to grow nice and tall,👍
💚🌱🌵☘️💚
I’m so glad I watched this video again. I just got a philodendron pink princess and thought to repot it after watching this. It was in a death plug. Now happily repotted on a moss pole in aroid mix. Thanks so much!!
I love the bunnings clear pots but wish there was a size between the large and medium. I use the orchid mix, Leca, perlite, charcoal, and dynamic lift pellets and haven't come across a gnat yet thankfully. (I used to use the succulent mix for my succulents and they were always everywhere). I stick everything in the one mix and haven't had any issues with root rot which is good. Your videos have been so helpful in growing indoor plants and the fact you're in the same part of the world helps a lot with figuring out the best care. Thank you so much ❤️
And a 25cm option would be awesome too :P thank you :)
@Sydney Plant Guy yes! My ponytail palm will need a new bigger pot soon. I'd love if they'd release clear versions of those black pots with the holes down the sides they have. Help cool off the roots better with our heat waves.
I totally agree with having another size pot between 14in and 20 inch. Are you listen Bunnings Lol.
Don’t worry about the negative comments! Your videos have helped me as well! Been thinking about moss poles for a while, couldn’t figure out how to put it up all together tho. Thanks for all the tips! With love from Poland!
Thanks :)
Loved hearing your thoughts on all of these topics! And, of course, seeing all your gorgeous plants 😍🙌🏽
Thank you :)
Hi Jan :) So so so so happy for you and your el choco red! You will love it! I am positive it will grow well for you :)...maybe it will be in your award show @ the end of the year :)...really looking forward to watching it grow....so exciting! Glad you have nice friends too :)
Thank you :)!
Love your videos and love the new space!
Excellent!!!! Great information and the perfect way to spend a rainy Sunday arvo watching with a cup of tea. Thank you.
Thank you:)
Setup looks great in the new Anthurium room. Crystal mama stealing the show :)
Love the new set up!! Awesome job 🙌🏽🤗
Thanks :)
😅😅 that was great! "yes im confused thank you"
Beautiful plants! I need to get my hands on some of those pots.😊
Good morning to you vary nice plants thank for sharing beautiful and amazing plants lovely collection beautiful
Thanks :)
Thank you Jan, another chill but informative video 😁
I was having a coffee and repotting my little monstera peru and put it on a little moss pole whilst watching your video in the background. The weekend is usually plant care and trying to repot all the small plants before the end of summer 🌿 Have a great day 😁
Thanks :)
This video was awesome; it was like watching you pot up my little plants. Wish I had the same plant so we could compete😆. As always, thanks for sharing; your effort is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the info. I appreciate the focus on smaller plants, especially Anthurium. Your moss pole plants are exceptional, but I don't have the space or natural light or artificial light to do them justice. Great channel; I keep recommending you when I visit garden centers.
Thanks :)
Aaaah that was so relaxing. I love your new room….I watched you setting it up and now to see you using it is so beautiful. I always enjoy your content.😘
Thanks :)
The new anthurium room looks great
Thanks:)
I love your videos! I’ve learned so much from them. I’ve even started moss poles, and chunky mix. Lol. But FYI, my moisture meter works just as well with the chunky mix as it does the other soil. I don’t know how it works, but it still registers the moisture.
I love your videos and have learned so much. For those people complaining about how much they have to water the moss poles… set up a drip irrigation system folks. Hands basically off 🙌🏼 and you have that much more time to gaze upon the plants 😊
Hello, I am glad I found you here in Sydney. I just started interested in pot plants and is so amazing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. You have beautiful plants in the background. Wow love love my plants to look like yours hhhhhh have to make the aroid mix. All the best.
Thanks :)
Love the new plant room. I just got my tc el Choco baby from WA this morning 😍She’s very tiny so I’ve put her in my cabinet in a maccas plastic cup to get extra humidity 🤞can’t wait to see how yours grows on the moss pole
Keep up your wonderful work on your channel with great videos. So blessed, inspiring, and helpful
Thank you for this!! My husband's father passed in late November, he had about 10 plants, 4 of which had been my grandmothers (she has passed and he was caring for spme of her plants since he has a green thumb - mines a muddy green/brown 😂) so now I'm doing my very best to keep them alive and thriving (a few went about 2 weeks without watering because the family wasn't thinking about it understandably). Several are having a hard time so I took some cuttings and now i have a few small plants that I'm about to get set up.
All that to say, this video has been so helpful to me. Clear pots just make sense, I will be using them moving forward. Thanks again for all the great tips ❤
Your new space looks amazing. So glad it is working well for you. Lighting is good.
Thanks :)
Oh my I've been struggling with my tenue.... thank you for sharing 🎉
Your videos are amazing! I’ve been looking for so many of the tips you share. Also was trying to repot smaller plants with the moss poke, so this solution of the half pole is great.
I found them easily on Amazon here in the United States.
Wonderfull video. ☺️. Thanks for sharing!!🙌
Hi Jan!! I just got a P. Choco and a P. Lynamii, I thought they where both crawlers but I see you potted your P. Choco on a moss pole. Remembering what you said in a previous video about changing the growth habits of a plant I wonder if you can maybe cover this topic more extensively as to give us more insight... Thank you for what you do, love your videos and I've learned so much about aroids watching you and growing my own 💫
To my knowledge el chocos are climbers :)
@@sydneyplantguy thank you Jan!! I researched after watching your video and you’re totally right!! 😜👍🏼✨
Wow! Just found your videos! So much even in this one! Thank you!
So much information, love watching all your videos thank you so much
Thanks :)
The next plant you should try is getting a Sygonium Podophyllum (variegata) to maturity, their leaves actually start turning into leaves similiar to that of the Amorphophallus species, I'm not sure how to describe it
I think it'd be a fun little project, they get massive though!
Big debate over death plugs. Do they hurt your plants roots or not. IMO their a hindrance, had plants go down hill for no other reason than roots couldn’t grow freely. 💚
Hi!! The P Sharoniae doesn’t need to be on that big of a pole. My plant has huge leaves and is a third the size of the pole you used. It climbs slowly while throwing out a new leaf constantly.
Hallo Jan, gutes Video !
@@mr.detley8723 machst du dann vorne so flach?
I’ve learned that I really want a mint mojito.
I usually just mix and orchid bark mixture with regular potting soil and include systemic insecticide granules and mosquito bits....
I once bought a little tree plant and it was potted in soil but the roots were in a net pot, yep, a plastic net pot potted up into soil, idk if they forgot the pot or if it was on purpose but it was just wild
Bunnings chronically over water their plants. Always have to let them dry out a bit before doing anything with them
100% agree!!!!!!!!! Unpopular opinion: Those who are taking care of the plants need a planty training!
Either over water or underwater. Either way it's an extreme case lol
Another excellent video. Your version of "unstructured" is like me on my best day.... Always loads of good information. Cheers from -3 degrees midwest United States lol
Awesome video! Loving your content here & on IG. I’m just getting into aroids & have a few to get out of the nursery soil they came in & onto moss poles, bought all my aroid potting medium ingredients today as per your video & am ready to go ☘️
Thanks so much.
Thank you, thank you, thank you...
I wish I lived somewhere that was humid enough to keep my moss poles moist for more than 24 hours lol. Experimented with a water pump on a timer but it got the moss TOO wet. Might try a drip system next.
I love your videos. So much knowledge
Thanks :)
If I ever get to Australia I want to visit Bunnings, haha!
I feel like I don’t have plants that are nice enough to swap with anyone. My wishlist plants are pretty up there in price so I don’t have plants that are valued high enough to get the ones I want. Which is fine overall. I typically just wait until plant prices drop but some varieties have remained over my budget for years now.
Hey Jan, new space and lighting looks great. I started making your moss poles recently and works a treat! However some of my climbers are in leca, do you think moss poles would work in those? They're currently on coir poles. Thanks
Yes I have seen people use leca & moss poles but I personally have not tried :) thanks !
Did you make the plastic moss pole? Love your videos! So helpful.
Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Grüsse aus Göttingen! :) Sehr gute Videos! Very informative & inspiring!
Thank you for this vidéo 💚🇫🇷🙏🌿
Love the "half-circle" moss pole with the plastic back! Do you have a tutorial for making those?
The brand is linked in the description :)
Singonium kuping gajah yang cantik
Great video Jan! Have noticed you're not using a metal rod when doing your moss poles, is it better just to insert the pole deeper into the pot, does this make it more stable ?
I only ise the garden take when I extend the pole & always put the pole all the way to the bottom of the pot
I’m amazed how you can pick up the plant by the pole when it’s newly potted. The roots and soil hasn’t even “stuck” to the pot yet?!
I know :P i’m not a scientist but it must have something to do with the friction between the pole & the aroid mix being greater than the gravity or something like that :D my medium is very light weight :)
Me too!
I'm jealous u have a green thumb, I can't do that removing all soil from roots esp when newly bought, for sure plants will eventually die.
Jan, does your watering change when you are using grow vertical poles since they stay moist longer? If so does this change how much you feed them?
Yes I water them less frequently, still fertilise weakly with every watering :)
I absolutely love your collection. I am a huge velvet philo lover too but living in Scotland my plants do NOT look like yours lol. You were saying you love the clear pots cos you can see if the roots are happy - what would you recommend if they are not? I bought a philo melanochrysum, I am fairly certain it was a rooted top cutting but it's not really done much for me in the time I have had it. It was staked on a bamboo stake and I moved it to a moss pole but when I did it I was surprised by how small the root system was. What would you recommend to help it grow more roots, I have it in a chunky aroid mix, with worm castings as fertilizer, should I just be keeping it warm, humid and bright and give it time? Thanks!
I learnt today 😊
I wonder if you do a moss pole vs coco pole😊😊😊😊 with time skip 😅
Saw your vid on coco thanks
Hi Jan! im in love with your plants, and i follow every tips of you. But id like to know, why dont you use “humus” in your mix? or what do you think about humus? thank you for all! Hope you can understand my bad english 😂
Thanks Jan, I'm on my 4th moss pole now on your inspiration and very happy! I have a controversial question: Have you ever experimented with using ice on the poles? Im thinking, of course in their natural environment they would never be exposed to such cold water as ice-melt but neither would orchids and it stimulates flowering hugely in them, could it stimulate flowering in say, M. adansonii?
I can’t see how ice cold water would be beneficial to them or induce flowering. I think with aroids flowering is rather a maturity thing
Thanks Jan, great video as always 🤩 My moss looks daggy and dirty in comparison to yours. Is that Brunnings brand from Bunnings or do you have another source?
Yes that’s the one :) thanks
Dear Jan! Keep up this amazing inspiring work! You've made me want to grow a jungle in my apartment after having been obsessed with cacti and succulents for years. I have a question for you - I'm having a really hard time finding quality ingredients for my potting mix where I am, so I have to order from Amazon in Europe, but can't find things that are specifically made for gardening - instead I mostly buy stuff made for exotic animals (reptiles and their terrariums etc). Do you know what to look out for when buying pine bark chips? While googling, I found out that you're not supposed to use mulch as it's made to stop weeds from growing in your garden and it falls apart too fast. But also, most of the products I'm able to find are called "pine bark mulch". How can I tell by reading the ingredients which is the right type of pine bark chips? Thank you 💚
I'm in Sydney and I wanna come to your plant swap yay Jan and AJ
Would be so fun to put something together :)
Hi Jan just found you great love it some advice please! I started with indoor plants love alocasias my bambino’s are
difficult what is the secret? Thank you
New to your channel and loving the content. Have recently transitioned 8 of my climbers onto the DIY moss poles. I have a few propagated plants that I will be planting up on moss poles once the roots establish. This was very timely. Learning so much. Question: Do you think I can add a plastic backing to already established moss poles?
Hey, yes you can :) have a look at this video: ua-cam.com/video/9ZrN7gqeyPA/v-deo.html
Great video,no surprise to us,😉 Natalie SA
Did you plant your little El choco in a 14cm pot as per usual just with a chopped down grow vertical? I have a little splendid about the same size and i want to get it on a pole but thought the pole would be far toooo big! So that's a brilliant idea.
Yes :) but i kept it in a 10cm pot because it’s going back into the ikea cabinet :)
@Sydney Plant Guy ahhh thanks i didn't realise the Grow Verticals would fit in a 10cm pot!
Hey I don’t think The bottom part of the grow vertical in the 2nd plant … is properly filled with aeroid mix
You might wanna check it …. Around 30:00
The 2nd philodendron..
I would like to see the ikea cabinet!
🌱
Hey Jan what's your thoughts on putting aroid mix in the pole instead of moss?
It works, it’s just messy :P
Could you tell me where to buy clear plastic backing for moss poles in Sydney please?
Growing Grounds :)
Hi Jan! From an Anthurium virgin how are you managing the humidity for your new anthurium room if they’ve come out of your ikea cabinet? Thanks! 😊
Quick question: which mic are you using? i like the sleek look :)
Love all the tips they are super helpful, I'm having a bit of trouble finding a good mix for my monstera, snakes ect there are sooo many different ones can you please tell me what mixture would be helpful? Thanks so much
I make my own aroid mix :) check out my tutorial :)
@Sydney Plant Guy thanks I just checked it out! I have coco coir instead of the chips but I think it will work! Thank you again! Love your channel ❤️
