Jan... The cutest Brad!!... I'm always tempted by his adorable behavior😊... It's okay...long enough duration, visiting your apartement, still feeling motivated by some things. First, every creature needs to drink. You give me good examples so I can understand each plant when watering it. Cool!.. Second, looking out your kitchen window, I can see the vast expanse of the atmosphere. Being tired after being very busy in the kitchen...you look out the window then walking inside enjoying the beautiful plants...while drinking a cup of warm sweet tea. Fun!!... I am so happy you made this video. I was wondering how you watered your plants. I water mine on Sunday mornings. It takes 3-4 hours but it’s such a relaxing time for me. I really enjoy it.
Haha your cat stole the show!😆 I have 60+ houseplants and water them in a similar way- over a bucket and let them drain. Except I use rain water 😊 Overall the video is great and very informative- thanks and greetings from Poland!
48:30 I still cannot believe that is an Adansonii. I love your videos so much. Sooooo informative and helpful AND inspiring. Thank you! I've never owned a houseplant in my life. I'm 35 and just randomly decided to pick up this hobby, and now I have 12 plants in my bedroom and an IKEA Baggebo on the way haha. When I get in to something I tend to get obsessed and go BIG. I have this "nook" in my bedroom from a south-facing Dormer window so it's the perfect spot to grow plants in. Hope to fill it with some monster-sized aroids like yours. :) I also live on a farm with a lot of land so I see a greenhouse in my future! :D
So… I’ve made numerous moss poles and I’ve repotted numerous plants into see-through pots, using your mix. I’m nervous about watering these plants just right bc I would hate to kill them ! I feel silly writing this but … gravity doesn’t always work when I flip the bottle over into the pole. About half the time it just sits there without emptying the water into the pole. I’m still trying to figure out why it worked at times but not at other times. Anyone else have the same problem?
Thanks for this awesome watering tutorial! Big fan here...I've watched 25 of your videos so far and find them equally entertaining and informative. I'm starting with Monsteras using your techniques in order to increase my chances for success. Winter in the US is a great time to start a new plant hobby. Thanks for the lovely inspiration.
Love your videos, love your plants and your passion for them. Now it makes so much sense on why you don't actually water the pots that have a moss pole. Omg I can't believe you left that plant with spider mites just sitting there lol I was freaking out for your other plants lol only because I have been dealing with thrips for a while and just seeing pests puts me into panic mode hahaha. Brad is the cutest by the way. Thanks for all the great information.
I know what you mean, I found spider mites on one of mine the other day and I took every one of them and sprayed them.........I have over 100 houseplants, not including propagations! LOL I thought the same thing when I saw him ......... get it away from the others NOW!! haha. But I am starting to relax a bit, I found a tiny green spider on one the other day and I can't identify it. But I live in FL so we have bugs galore!!!
I used to freak out too but after my most recent outbreak: thrips I've got a better system. I've been washing the leaves with just water and using a fine mister of water a drop of dish soap and neem oil about once every couple weeks. More for new plants. I also wash and repot most new plants immediately to reduce chance of bringing new pests in. Just bought a philo with mealy bugs and no sign of them after a good wash. And the plant the thrips were killing is doing great now (other than being a little crispy around the edges from low humidity)
@@lenagoodwin8223 Me too, total freak out, check all my plants, spray them all, etc. The more experience you get, the calmer you are. It's gonna happen and it won't spread through them all in a day and wipe them out, like I used to think LOL😱😱😱
Such a great video! I wish there is a company which makes sets, like plastic pot and ceramic because its hard for me to find compatible ceramic pots ( i live in eu)
Hi SPG! It’s glad to see you moved successful with your plant partners😍. Can I know what pesticide will help to get rid of gnats and white flies. Very comprehensive guide as always! So my question is what do you do to prep if you go for a vacation for over a week or longer? Have you tried the jug with a wick into the soil method, or other some kind of self watering system?
Thanks :) given i need somebody to look after Brad anyway I just get a house sitter when going on holidays so haven’t had to explore any self-watering methods
I use clear plastic pots now per your suggestion and see that water stays for several days trapped. Almost wondering if I should drill additional holes in the sides of pots to get more air circulation especially for my root rot prone plants like Monstera Thai Constellation and Hawaiian pothos. Any suggestions? Do you ever use any Hydroperoxine or aquarium bubbler stones with water propagation?
I have tried fome h2o2 in my water while propagating and seems to work well :) Personally, I don't find the need to put further holes in the pot as my mix is very chunky but you can never have enough aeration in my opinion (as long as you are willing to water more frequently) :)
Quite off topic but I really enjoyed seeing that ragged box next to your crawlers. It's something every cat owner will notice instantly. Hey man ive been a long time follower and fan of your page i have about 8 moss poles in my home now that were inspired by your videos, my adansonii is over 8 feet tall and all my plants love climbing and rooting to their poles, the challenege ive had letely is my poles drying out extremely quick but the growing medium in the pot staying moist. How do you keep your poles moist without overwatering the soil because when i use an upside down water bottle it will often run through the moss too quickly and into the soil
Do you have a detailed video on watering? I'm definitely an over-waterer and so is my husband, so we would love to watch a video on readiness signs of watering! I'm using your potting mix in clear pots. Thank you!
Well this was 90 minutes of water , not sure how much more detail I can provide but I also have some tutorials in my moss pole playlist, they might help :)
I made the mistake of putting my Gloriosum in regular universal soil with perlite. Thought putting some more perlite in than recommended, it would be chunky enough but the long pot dries out very unevenly. Will replace it with aroid mix soon
This was awesome! I use the same general approach for moss poles. My only issue is I find that if I want the pole to be properly moist, there is almost always water that collects in the cover pots and it gets gross and causes rot on the roots reach down into it (if I don't take the water out every time with a syringe, which is a hassle because the plants are so heavy). Do you ever empty that water or you find it just doesn't get gross?
If you're going to water the left over from the pail to your balcony plants, are you confident that if the other plants had pests it won't transfer over? Wanted your view before I start doing it too. :)
Thanks Jan for the videos! I’m so enthused - went out to buy all my mosspole materials and made 3 at one go for my monstera. Thanks for the inspiration! One question: my monstera is not yet having any root clinging to the moss pole. Do I still water the moss pole? Afraid of root rot in pot. Appreciate your advice 🙏 forget to mention I live in a hot n humid climate.
You only have to keep the pole moist once there are roots inside but keeping it moist can encourage roots in the first place :) thank you & happy growing
Hi , busy rewatching all your video , like your plants I absorb more info each time I am really into moss poles , having fun Where do u get your clips from Thankyou
Great video as always thanks Jan 🙂. How many moss poles have you actually got? You might need to get rid of that pesky ceiling soon 🤔 Balcony plants look great despite wind and sun and being the not so loved. Kisses to Brad 😘🐈. Do you let him out onto balcony or would he try to climb?
Have you tried out just putting a solo cup in the top of your poles that you can't put a bottle on? Still slow releases but you can just fill that up instead of having to slow poor
Nice video and very thorough! Is the entire moss pole saturated after watering? Or do you leave the bottom part dry for the water to work its way down into?
An hr after the watering the water should have drained through mositening the full pole. If the bottom is still dry I just pour a little more into the pole :)
Hey man, love your content! Got a question. I've heard you mentioning in a video of yours that you fertilize "weekly-weekly". Does that mean every other week?
Did you mention fertilizer? I just potted up my aroids with a chunky mix and bought Foliage Focus. Not sure how often to use or how much strength (I have Decurvisa dragon tail, silver sword, atabapoense, monsteras, Brandi and monsteras).
Hi Jan, I’m watching your moss pole playlist… my question is, in this video at 19:28 I see that you cut down a clear pot. I have done that also but I was too worried the cut edge would damage the leaf stems. Have you ever had damage from that?
Moss breaks down and degrades after a couple years, so how do you change the moss inside your moss poles if the plant has established roots on it? Enjoyed this video.
Are you using only a lower concentration of fertiliser? 5ml instead of 10? I know you adjust for summer and winter but do you ever use 10ml concentration?
Is your beautiful queen staying in the IKEA cabinet forever or is she nearly big enough to try outside the controlled environment? I'm nowhere near anthurium level yet, lol😍
What did you mean when you said you use Foliage Focuse "weekly, weekly" Is that every week or once every 2 weeks? Big fan my man, made my first moss pole this week with exactly what you suggest from Bunnings, keep up the wonderful work!
@@sydneyplantguy Thanks for the response! I'm currently feeding my Albo 2ml of Foliage Focus and 2ml or Clonex Clone Solution (per litre) to help roots. The plant is mature now with 5 big leaves, so should I switch to only FF or stick to a mix of both FF and CCS? 🙏
I notice some mosquitos or flies like thing when I move the indoor plant pot few inches as I rotate them so they get even sunlight on the windows sill. Have you experienced this and how do you manage this?
Help!!! SOS !!! What should I do when I accidentally have over- watered a plant ? How do I get all that extra water 💧 out ? OMG 😮 my plant needs a certified life guard …it’s drowning !! 🛟 🆘
Thank you so much for this video! I've watered my Monstera Deliciosa on a moss pole by the same method (watering the moss pole). I use about 1L of water and the bottom leaves going up the stem have yellowed and died. I wait until the moss pole is dry before I water and don't water the soil. Am I watering too much? Thanks for your time!
Where do u get the clear big plastic pits I really like that type of plant please say where I can find a clear plastic pot.I love watching your videos km Jeannie from Wisconsin.
how do you drilll the holes in the caps of your water bottles? safely - top side down or up? what size drill bit? I tired and made them too big and the little bugger kept slipping out of the way
I keep the lid kn the bottle when I drill the holes. I’ve used different size drill bits and they all seem to work, i don’t think you can really go wrong with holes that are around 3-5mms diameter
Is there a reason why you only have so few moss poles with a plastic back? I'm about to make some but I was wondering why you didn't had more. Thanks! :) Edit: still can't believe I watched two hours of you watering your plants. 😂 Love your content, great videos as always!! Cheers from Canada. 👋

My local bunnings :)
Thank you for this vidéo 💚🇫🇷🙏
Are you using only a lower concentration of fertiliser? 5ml instead of 10? I know you adjust for summer and winter but do you ever use 10ml concentration?
Yea I use the weak recommendation (5ml) as per the bottle
Hey, I like to see your video s ..I'm learning a lot. One questionn, do you fertilize in winter month too?
As long as the plants are growing I fertilise them. Indoors growing season is all year around :)
Thx
Is your beautiful queen staying in the IKEA cabinet forever or is she nearly big enough to try outside the controlled environment? I'm nowhere near anthurium level yet, lol😍
I’ll try and keep her in there for as long as possible :)
What did you mean when you said you use Foliage Focuse "weekly, weekly" Is that every week or once every 2 weeks?
Big fan my man, made my first moss pole this week with exactly what you suggest from Bunnings, keep up the wonderful work!
Weakly weekly, so I use the weak recommended dillution on the bottle every week
@@sydneyplantguy Thanks for the response! I'm currently feeding my Albo 2ml of Foliage Focus and 2ml or Clonex Clone Solution (per litre) to help roots. The plant is mature now with 5 big leaves, so should I switch to only FF or stick to a mix of both FF and CCS? 🙏
How many plastic bottles do you go through just for the plants 😢😮
I re-use them of course :D
I notice some mosquitos or flies like thing when I move the indoor plant pot few inches as I rotate them so they get even sunlight on the windows sill. Have you experienced this and how do you manage this?
Probably fungus gnats! I personally haven’t had any in over 4 years now! I keep up the airflow to prevent them :)
Do you let the entire 1L drain into each pole?
usually, yes :) but again, it depends on the size of the pole & plant & how dry it is
Help!!!
Try less water but maybe more often so the pole stays moist but never wet :)
Where do u get the clear big plastic pits I really like that type of plant please say where I can find a clear plastic pot.I love watching your videos km Jeannie from Wisconsin.
I buy them locally at bunnings
how do you drilll the holes in the caps of your water bottles? safely - top side down or up? what size drill bit? I tired and made them too big and the little bugger kept slipping out of the way
I keep the lid kn the bottle when I drill the holes. I’ve used different size drill bits and they all seem to work, i don’t think you can really go wrong with holes that are around 3-5mms diameter
Is there a reason why you only have so few moss poles with a plastic back? I'm about to make some but I was wondering why you didn't had more.
Thanks! :)
Edit: still can't believe I watched two hours of you watering your plants. 😂 Love your content, great videos as always!! Cheers from Canada. 👋
The functionality is great but I don’t necessarily like the look of plastic everywhere
Thank you for your great videos small question? Can we put Burle max on the pole ? And is that possible for it that leafs go big or not ?😊 thank you 🙏
Thanks :) Yes it's a climber but I don't believe the leaves have the potential to grow very large though
@@sydneyplantguy thank you so much then I’ll take it down on the pole because i can use that pole for another used climbing plant 🙈😂
I have ? What is plant that is above the oxawlis? Arrow shape? Sorry I don’t know how to spell the shamrock plant,
