Twice I’ve flown between Manchester and Munich on SQ and they were the best economy class flights I’ve ever done. It’s a shame that that route has disappeared, but I’m glad to see some intra European SQ routes are still operating.
"I can't wait for Singapore to be open again" As a Brit living in Singapore, you aren't alone in that sentiment! Can't wait for this to be all over.....whatever that looks like.
Welcome to this incredible trip! YES, Singapore Airlines really are running a fifth freedom flight from Copenhagen to Rome and it is surely the best business class product you can take wholly within the EU. Enjoy!
Some flights I have done with mouthwash have small paper cups to use it. Also BTW you can now fly LHR to Singapore with Singapore air if you are transiting.
Paul, this trip report reminds me why I like you best. You're unpretentious; focus on the product; don't crack lame jokes or constantly hog the camera; and your opinions can't be bought. Keep it up, mate. BTW: I adore SQ and they're my first choice for long hauls in business class. But right now, I would gladly and contentedly settle for economy class to anywhere with SQ.
Wonderful video Paul and this was really fun for me to watch as I flew this route earlier this month but in Economy ( mine was the bulkhead seat with the seat in front missing. Shown at 8:26 ). Loved the flight and the crew were amazing. Cannot fault SQ for such a cool intra-EU 5th freedom flight
Paul, love your videos. During these Covid times they're a great substitute for not being able to travel myself. I especially like you video editing and choice of music. Well done! Would love to see another epic train trip when it becomes convenient. Keep up the great work.
Great video as always, Singapore have always been fantastic. Seriously consider flying them when we open up here in Australia again and go PER-SIN-LHR or vice versa for the hell of it.
there are little cups for the mouthwash on the right of the sink (and on SQ there has always been mouthwash at least on the long haul flights that I took on economy)
13:36 There are small paper cups by the way above the sink that you can use for the mouth wash. As the paper cups are white in colour they do blend in the decor.
Great to see you up in the air again and a little further afield. 5th freedom flights are often interesting to us AVGeeks for sure. As someone whose recently gone deaf I appreciate the added subtitles you've been adding. Not exactly mastered the art of lip reading yet tbh but in these days of masks it does make life a lot more difficult as it muffles everyone's voices and makes it harder for the hearing aids to do their thing.
Thank you for another great video, Paul! Thanks to your review, I went ahead and booked this flight for the weekend - will be in 19A though, but looking forward to this experience!
Hi Paul, we met on that flight and had a nice chat in the bus. I did made my connection and i hope you yours too. Hope you are well and all went as you planned. Great vid as always and CHEERS KEEP ON FLYING !!
Missed you ever so much; I caught up on every one of your previous journeys (hello, trains across Australia!) during the earlier months of COVID and delighted that within the parameters of cautiousl;y optimistic border relaxations for travel, you are back at it. And, Paul, I do think you are looking quite trim, too! :-). PS. Trains -- don't forget the trains!
We’re flying back from Gran Canaria on October 18th on the 787. My son is an aviation geek like me, he took to UA-cam to review tui 787, I heard your voice and I shouts “ that sounds like wingin it Paul and he goes “how do you bloody know?”😃
Re mouthwash there are small paper cups underneath the mirror cabinet you use with it. SQ and Changi are the best one can experience when flying. What sets SQ apart is consistency and their new Biz product is equal or better than many 1st class products. My sample of it was on 787-10 SIN-MNL in DEC 2018.
Agreed Paul, can't wait to travel to Singapore Changi Airport whenever things open up in SE Asia. I travel to Bali frequently pre-covid and really want to stop in Singapore via Denpasar. I remember you mentioning in previous videos a dedicated episode from the airport. Living in western Canada I travel Vancouver usually via Taipei as I find deals on China Airlines or EVA. Love airports and aircraft almost as much as you, keep the videos coming. Cheers!
I agree with your comment on CX First - this was my regular ride until the flu started. Hopefully we will see you in HK again shortly when and if they ever allow visitors in again. I will have to rough BA First on my next trip back to London since there is no CX First on the A350s they are currently using to LHR.
Yeah I flew Vienna-Rome(FCO) and was surprised that nothing was checked. But on the return leg had to get boarding card at check-in and was double checked before entering security checks! But flying VIE-LON days later had to get a paper boarding card at check-in!
NOT A SINGLE WORD ABOUT CPH ( COPENHAGEN AIPORT ) ..I am VERY disapointed ..Why ? The Airporr is One of its Classes of its own ..Not only is it the Number One Airport when it comes to Services, check in and Security , it even won the high prestige of the best security Airport of the Year in 2019 in 2020 and 2021 . It is the highest technology Airport in the world as well , Not even US can afford this High Technology of Airports , and the now biggest Airport in nothern EU and Scandinavia, after Arlanda in sweden had close down terminals. , The Airport is of newest Modern Airports as well because of its entire interior where shops are kept in midlle and there is not far to each gate, from each of the 5 shopping squares that parts the 7 departure terminals. There is Pc hubs and Phone Chargers EVERYWHERE where you can get your own seat and recharge your mobile in no time , for absolutely free , and free SAFE HIGH QUALITY WIFI EVERYWHERE ! From each angle wherever you are, you have the view to the Gates and Aircrafts and Landing / take-offs , so that each passenger has the oportunity to this panoramic view ..no matter where you are in Airport . Quite unique ! The Airport has also won high presige prices due to its very high comfort and pleaseant atmosphere with quality of Scandinavian Tradition of Furniture in absolutly high 1 class standard for ALL passengers to enjoy . And There is 2 different ways going to and from the Airport. You can either choose the Intercity Train Station, that will bring passengers into Copenhagen Central Station in 12 min and on to destinations to Aarhus, aalborg, and Southern Denmark and Northern Germany , Flensburg and Hamburg ALL direct from the Airport and Intercity Trains to Sweden across the Famous Bridge between Denmark and Sweden to Malmoe Central Station and to Gothenburg and Stockholm. Singapore is class. I haven't flown them for a long time though. They are very expensive Australia to Europe in business. The A350 seems very quiet. I've been on the 787 and it was good, but seemed louder.
Great review! Just heard on the news that it might be easier for you to come to Singapore soon. Perhaps another review, this time it would be a non-stop flight? 😁
Hi Paul, as always a most enjoyable, entertaining and informative trip report. I love the idea of finding odd flights (fifth freedom certainly fit the bill) to be able to fly an airline/class/route that is out of the ordinary. One question: what is a “security proof plastic bag” as in your amenity kit? It sounds sort of James Bondish but it looks just like an ordinary zip-loc bag”. Cheers!
I think 5th freedom flight give many benefits for everyone. CMIIW, Singapore also operate 5th freedom flight from Manchester to Singapore via Frankfurt, I don't know this route still exist or not, but I think it's good to try.
SAS are or were running a Cargo fifth freedom flight using a Passenger A330 from Brussels to Birmingham I think it was for JLR parts and other car parts. So maybe it had some Passengers on. BHX was eerily quiet Covid normal flights for the day 4 to 6. Now we get about 30 or 40 possibly increasing. Emirates did return with a 777 Qatar haven't PIA suspended, AI idk, Turkish flew some of there 787's and A350's in but mostly Jet2, FR and TUI with Easyjet, Air Lingus who I think did send an A321-NEO at one point, Loganair and Blue Island. I hope it returns to normal so when I get back at like half six from College at around 7PM I can see the EK A380 flying over my area at about 4,000ft
I guess that mirror you just showed us in business class is for vanity ladies. You know they always like to have a touch up on their make up before landing at their destination. Hahahaha....lol.
Compared to the Swiss PLF, the Italian one is super complicated and long. I have no problem filling out the Swiss PLF on my phone in about a minute, but I spent something like half an hour trying to fill out the Italian one, especially that when I had to specify the list of countries I'd been to in one field of the form, that element blew up and became unmanageable on my phone.
i love these seats on SQ business. I'm not too tall so i sleep in a slant position and it's perfect. I never quite liked the regional business class offerings on the A350 or even the A380.....not as spacious. SQ has the best service
A good, straight forward review - as always. I should very much like to know how you prove your Vaccination Status? We now have a couple of trips booked but - when vaccinated - have a simple cardboard (credit card sized) with handwritten details on it. What do you use now? Thanks.

Question regarding inter-EU flights currently... for proving your vaccination status, did you make use of the EU digital certificate or just show your NHS vaccine status, which I gather is an acceptable substitute for British passport holders? If you don't mind me asking, anyway. Thanks!

Thank you! I appreciate it! I try to pitch the videos for more casual viewers so I’m glad to hear you like the plain language etc!
The flight went well for the crew; however, they were short one bottle of water in Economy. Great vid as always!

I agree, Paul’s editing and music selection is always a really high standard
I think you have really summed up Singapore Airlines perfectly there - thoughtful touches.
Great video mate, Singapore airless never disappoints me, even if I only fly economy. I hoping to try their Premium Economy cabin one day.

It’s a closable see through plastic bag; you need to decant any liquids and creams into one to pass through security. 👍🏻

There used to be paper cups in the lav for mouthwash. Like there used to be real cloth mini-towels.

last in this lounge in 2019, has not changed that much.
The big airplane obviously seems very wide. I guess, luckily for plane-spotters it doesn't share the typical 777 tail APU. I wonder why!
