We not only have county fairs, but state fairs as well. They are huge! You can spend all day at the North Carolina State Fair and not visit everything there is to see. You can hardly walk twenty feet without seeing a food truck. There is also a long building with one restaurant after another. If that's not enough, there are exhibits showing different kinds of foods run by companies or individuals who also sell their food. The fairgrounds cover 344 acres, not counting the majority of parking. Most of that is done outside the fairgrounds.
Tractor Pulls were started in Italy by Feruccio Lamborghini (yes THAT Lamborghini) to prove how powerful his tractors were versus the competition. And yes Lambo is known for building tractors.

Back when I graduated, some of the farm boys brought greased about 150 pound each pigs to the high school. They put painted big numbers on their sides. They put them in the halls at different doors around the school. That was a Senior prank. The adult leaders at school ran after them trying to catch them. It took them a couple hours and they caught pig, 1, 2,4, and 5. They spent a good half an hour looking for pig 3...there was no pig 3, they only did 4 pigs and left out a pig with 3 painted on it. On those mowers, you can get some for less than $5,000.00 for a smaller amount of land to mow. Some of those were more for commercial mowers. I'm surprised to see that New Jersey has this style of fair and rodeo. This is something that you would definitely see in Texas or somewhere like that.
You see these type of fairs, agricultural, quite a bit in New York state, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. I'm surprised there are these types of fairs in New Jersey, too, though.
When i lived in Texas (born and raised) our high school had a rodeo. When my son was about 4, we went to an airshow southwest of Fort Worth that not only had airplanes but all kinds of tractors and farm machinery!!!
At local fairs here in Michigan, you could have the "cops" put someone in the "jail" for a couple bucks, and at the end it went to a charity. When it comes to rodeo, we have a saying; "You gonna cowboy up, or just lay there bleeding"; ie are you gonna get up and shake it off, or are you a p*ssy. Farm work is hard and dangerous, and kids learn to ignore bumps and scrapes pretty young.
County fairs, festivals, parades, craft shows, food events, rodeos, horseshows, car racing, car shows, amuesment parks, casinos, national parks, etc. The List goes on what you can experience in upstate central NY. ❤🙌
Americans have Freedom from day "1". We don't "bow", or bend a knee to any Leader, Royal, Lord. In school, we pledged, Loyalty and honor to our Flag. Every morning
What do you mean plugs I live on 1.5 I've seen electric gardening tools but never a mower. Is it like a electric riding mower? we got a 0 turn. Back in the day we had regular riding mowers like JD, or snapper.
Lewis, it's not like they're riding sheep on concrete. They're on soft sand. The only risk would be if the sheep stepped on them. The kids also get to use both hands, unlike the bull riders. Good to see the bull riders wearing helmets though.
The Mutton busting and greased piglets are actually useful. The mutton busting, trains young folk, for later rodeo work, the piglets is to teach them how to catch pigs.
0:39 that is what we call a funnel cake. They pour pancake batter in a deep fryer through a funnel. It turns into a coily greasy ropes all tangled together. When it comes out of the fryer its covered with powder sugar on top. First bite is the best thing you ever tasted, but finishing a funnel cake turns quite difficult at the end inexplicably. Theyre served at fairs and festivals. Theyre actually quite easy to make if you can get a big deep fryer in the uk.
We Americans sing the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance at so many events is because we‘ve seen how quickly and easily it can be lost (freedom) and how difficult and hard it is to get it. In fact, it was not easy for us to get it in the first place. We don’t want to ever lose it! Even a little bit!
Most Americans don't have riding lawnmowers; they are for people with an acre or more to mow. Many have power mowers for their suburban yards. My yard is pretty small so I just use a string trimmer.
At our county fair, we have an RV demolition derby, and "boat racing", where people hitch crappy boats to the backs of their cars/trucks, and race like NASCAR on a dirt track. Keep in mind, this is in an area with a very large lake.....the area is even called lake county. we could just do regular boat racing. Thats not Merica enough i guess 😂😂😂
The funniest and most fun thing you'll see at a rodeo is muttin' bustin'! I'm in Texas so they take it seriously, these kids are just playin' around. I've seen 4 year olds go the entire length of the arena with the clowns chasing after.
I dont know if you know what all is going on across the pond but I wanted to tell you that you save me every night from jumping off a freaking cliff. You make me laugh so good. I don’t laugh too much. So thanks man!😊

They play our national anthem at the drive-in movie theater here. Right before the first movie plays, the national anthem gets played. You will see it almost everywhere in the U.S. but you will see it more in smaller towns along with praying before events.
When I was a kid in England in the late 1960s, they would play God Save The Queen and everyone would stand at the cinema before the movie started. Longer movies also had an intermission when snack girls would walk up and down the aisles with a tray loaded with sweets and ice lollies you could buy. A lot has changed
I don't know if you've seen this before, but we also have a drink called the Arnold Palmer which is sweet, iced tea mixed with the lemonade, and it is delicious. you can also spruce it up by throwing in some liquor of your choice but usually whiskey or rum in my experience.
9:37 I grew up playing ice hockey, and we often played the anthem before games. If we played against a Canadian team, we played both “Star Spangled Banner” and “O Canada”. You also cracked me up with the lawnmowers. I have 5 acres at home and I use a lightweight tractor mower for it with a 52” cutting deck. That means with each pass I’m mowing about a 132cm swath of grass.
I live in a city so my 0.5 acre lot seems a bit generous compared to many newer neighborhoods but it's still not huge by any means and it's split between the front and back pretty evenly. When we first moved in EVERYONE was telling my husband he needed a riding mower! I didn't think so, but I told my husband it's his choice because he's the one who will be mowing. He decided to just get the push mower and if he hates it he'll upgrade in a few years. It is self propelled and all that good stuff, and it only takes him 2hrs to mow the whole yard. I'm so glad he didn't waste thousands on a riding mower tbh lol and he weirdly really enjoys mowing! He likes being right on the ground to move things out of the way or whatever. Growing up I had family with many acres and they always said you don't need a riding mower unless you have an acre or more. But if I had that, I'd have goats honey! I wouldn't be mowing! 😂
The sauce with the fried pickles is called Fry Sauce. Its Mayonnaise, ketchup and a dash of mustard. Super easy to make. 50/50 Mayo to ketchup then ad mustard to your taste.
When we lived in the UK back in the 90’s we went quite a few county shows. They were mainly classic steam powered tractors and other farming equipment. It was fun and interesting for us Americans.
When I was a kid the local town celebration was the Irrigation Festival (long story) but there was a parade featuring the Irrigation Festival Queen. She was known among us kids as the ditch witch.😂
our fairs - and we have county fairs and state fairs - are kind of a throwback to the early days of the country. people would gather together at the end of the growing season to show off their best for the year, and it grew from there. in the old days of fairs, the winner of the pig scramble won the pig. one of the highlights of fairs for me as a lad was going with friends who did horse pulling competitions. we also entered various crafts when we were young, and won a few prizes - usually modest amounts of money.
County fairs and rodeos are part of the culture of the Agricultural America. Almost all rural parts of the state have County Fair and the state will have a state fair. All of them developed from our agricultural roots. Basically the rodeo was to show off your skills . The mutton busting and the pig mashup trained children to be able to work the land. Rodeos and fairs are all about your community and your neighbors
We have a greased (actually greased) pig contest for 4 different age groups in,our area every year. Which ever child catches the pig gets to keep it. They are not piglets, but a “normal” sized pig. So 4 pigs are given out because of 4 age groups. It is hysterical to watch, and great fun!
Yeah, I can’t get behind pageantry either. When little girls get dressed up like little Miss Americas with full make up And have a beauty contest. A big NO from me. 😬
We also have a Calf Scramble where they tie ribbons around calves neck, some have a cash reward, and then release a whole herd of them. Kids chase them down and have to grab the ticket off the calf to get the award.
The best part of county or state fairs is the animal barns. I love going through the barns singing the Armor Hot Dog or the Oscar Mayer Hot Dog Songs. They work in the cattle, pig, and chicken barns. Not as well in the vegetable barns.
The pig scramble at our county fair is much different. They have a set number of pigs, usually about 10. And high school girls go out and try to catch the pigs and take them to a circle in the field. The ones that catch the pigs, then are given a pig, approximately 3 to 4 months before the next fair starts to raise and show in a special class at the fair. We also have a calf scramble in which high school boys have to halter a calf and drag it to a circle in the field to win that calf. Then they get to raise the calf for a year to show in the next year’s county fair. We do also have a kiddy pig chase, which is very similar to what they showed except there are multiple classes based on age and the winner of each class gets a brand new bicycle.
New Jersey is "The Garden State" and it has a strong agricultural component. Even on "The Shore", it is still very agricultural with all the aquaculture; fishing, clamming, crabbing, . . .
Yo Bro, LOL!! There was a meme 20yrs ago, of all these hot chicks crowding around a farmer on his big tractor, when they foud out that his big tractor cost more than a Lambo. 😆
My mother’s people were from the South but moved North for work. Two of my mom’s rowdy cousins were sent back “down home” to the grandparents’ farm for the summers. The grandfather had a young, big, mean bull that was extremely difficult to handle. Those two bothers spent an entire summer jumping on the back of that bull, grabbing its tail, hanging onto its neck, and playing rodeo, so by the end of summer the bull was tame and cooperative. True story. Poor bull.
Those lawn mowers were all zero turn mowers which many people still consider to be "commercial" mowers although more & more homeowners are buying them. We have acres of grass to mow so we have one. They are better than conventional riding mowers because of their extremely tight turning radius. They greatly reduce the amount of string trimming required to keep a lawn looking neat.

My 3 year old son can drive a Tractor Mower like a freaking champ, he’s been obsessed with mowers since he entered this world 😂
@@thesimplesaguaro
Good for him! 😄 And good on you for teaching him well !👍
We not only have county fairs, but state fairs as well.
The fireworks remind me of when Santa Claus comes riding around local neighborhoods on firetrucks at Christmas time, throwing out candy to all the kids. That’s one of the small treasures I love about America.
I know folks that mow for a living, some do just residential and some will do large land areas, like for a company. Maintain the lawn and bushes and such.
I love county fairs. We have rodeos, tractor pulls, and a demolition derbys. Mutton bustin and pig scramble are hilarious to watch.
I LOVE demolition derbys! It’s been years since I’ve seen one, they’re so fun! ☺️
@Musicislife477 They are fun, but you'll get pelted with mud if you're too close. LOL
Don't forget the monster trucks
I always thought all the countries played their national anthem like we do. Thats weird to think that not every country does this. This is one if the many reasons I watch ur videos. I have learned so much about the UK from you!!
I love the fact that you enjoy this.i have a neighbor who is a black man he farms ranches hunts has butcher shop ect and he and his family have large influence in bringing awareness to blacks in the industry. His name is Mr.Bradford great family.
Sweet tea in the South is REALLY sweet. Mind-numbingly sweet.
As a southerner I can confirm your accuracy, it's gotten even sweeter the last few years, I have to get mine half sweet, half unsweetened to even be able to tolerate it. Literally sweeter than koolade 😢
That’s why I have unsweetened iced tea!
@@aletmartins6940 I'm starting to do the same and just add my own 💯

That's crazy Nixon pulled us from Nam also Watergate. The CIA are actually the ones who broke in, and stole paperwork. You don't mess with the military industrial complex.
I thought the same due to the lack of reaction. Lol
Your Smarties candy is chocolate, our Smarties are little round chalky sweet and Sour candies
Do they still sell those(the chalky ones?) I haven't seen them since I last trick or treated almost 20 years ago
@@tonyg490Sure, you can get them still. One of my favorites. :)
They are nothing special. Sweet Tarts are much better. Even Pixy Sticks are better.
@tonyg490 Yeah you can still find them around Halloween.

Fun video Lew! I used to show dogs in 4H and lambs in FFA!
My county in Wisconsin is very rural- 816 sq mi (2,110 km2) with a pop. of 31,000. The county is home to the headquarters of Organic Valley, the world's largest cooperative of family farmers. An 8,600 acre Wildlife preserve, a 3,600 State Park and 8 other county parks and campgrounds. Our County Fair is a HUGE deal. Last year had over 25,000 in paid attendance over 5 days.
The Pig Scramble "it's like trying to catch a greased pig" is an American saying. So, that's what they do. It is hilarious to watch, even more fun to play.
Lol, dirt was once most American children's first toy! Girls would get old baking pans and make mud pies with sticks for cake candles and boys would just do anything but that with dirt.
When it becomes mud and you squish your toes around in the mud.
5:04 While tomatillos are related to tomatoes they are not "green tomatoes".
Thank you. Forgive this guy. He's from New Joyzee. Tomatillos are from the tomato family. They have a paper like covering you peal off. It's like a goose berry. You steep them in water with chicken bullion, when soft, stick them in a blender with white onion, shared and peeled chili's, garlic and cilantro and blend. SOOOO good. It's basically a green Salsa, salsa verde, for tacos, tamales, chili, and enchilada's.
@@karenshepherd2412yeah I don’t think this guy have ever been to a county fair before. He’s very clearly a city boy.

@@csailer2353 he also moved to the UK so long ago he gets a lot wrong about current American things, and for some reason thinks all of his experiences are universal. I found him really hard to watch as I couldn't relate at all.
Thank you, that was driving me crazy.
Most Americans are patriotic. ❤ We have country fairs in rural areas all over the U.S. Mutton busting trains future bull and Bronc riders. He was referring to a beauty pageant for different age girls and young women. It’s similar to Miss Universe but only for fairs. Fried pickles are sooo good. Generally pickle spears dipped in a breading usually with seasoning and dill then fried.
Ive never had a spear. It's always been pickle chips. I made them once. I used tempura mix. They were pretty good, but messy
I just had a bloomin’ onion the other day. It’s such a happy reunion of their deliciousness and my appreciation.
Isn't there a tradition in the UK where you roll down a hill after a cheese wheel? And you think chasing pigs is weird? lol
Every state has some kind of cattle ranching
It’s literally called the garden state.
@JustMe-dc6ks You're correct but it's not called the farm and ranch state
I'm from NJ and yes this is a normal county fair.
When I was a kid and a teen I won all kids of awards in 4H and in FFA. I had so much fun doing these things and I still cherish every memory.
Riding mowers are for acreage or some people that can't stand to mow. We have outdoor plugs for our mowers
What do you mean plugs I live on 1.5 I've seen electric gardening tools but never a mower. Is it like a electric riding mower? we got a 0 turn. Back in the day we had regular riding mowers like JD, or snapper.
We have a John deer diesel riding lawnmower that has a bucket on the front … it doesn’t plug in cause it’s not electric
The main reason the old tractors smoke so bad is because they don't have catalytic converters. That's what cars were like before cats.
Yes, we play the national anthem at all sporting events, high school and professional
19:41 hay lew they race them aswell, lawnmower racing
I'm so glad she finally found something she liked.
I dont know if you know what all is going on across the pond but I wanted to tell you that you save me every night from jumping off a freaking cliff. You make me laugh so good. I don’t laugh too much. So thanks man!😊
I used to do inspections at all the state prisons. That free living comes with a lot of downsides. 😂😂😂
Sweet tea:1 make a pitcher of hot tea. 2 add sugar till it tastes sweet. 3 add a bit more sugar, and some lemon juice. 4 chill in fridge. 5 pour over large glass full of ice.
Same in Canada. A very long time ago.
Deep fried pickles dipped in peanut butter....chef's kiss! 🤌
I don't know if you've seen this before, but we also have a drink called the Arnold Palmer which is sweet, iced tea mixed with the lemonade, and it is delicious. you can also spruce it up by throwing in some liquor of your choice but usually whiskey or rum in my experience.
Better when u make it yourself in the sun
9:37 I grew up playing ice hockey, and we often played the anthem before games. If we played against a Canadian team, we played both “Star Spangled Banner” and “O Canada”.
You also cracked me up with the lawnmowers. I have 5 acres at home and I use a lightweight tractor mower for it with a 52” cutting deck. That means with each pass I’m mowing about a 132cm swath of grass.
Lewis, I have 10 acres. We mow about 3 - 4 acres. You try to mow that much grass with a push mower.
Smarties in the us are tart flavored compressed little pucks stacked into a stick shape. They are like small spree candies.
My Mum’s partner was soooo happy when he finally got a John Deere seated mower for their yard. Every man’s dream.
Yes!!! We finally got a John Deere to mow the yard and snow blower... best thing ever.
I live in Oklahoma, and this is just like the county fairs I have been to. I never would have thought they did this in New Jersey.
They didn't really show the tractor pull😡. They pull masive sleds that weigh tons through the mud. They need every bit of that horsepower
You absolutely need to watch a video about the grits festival in South Carolina. It's so much fun and the contests are hilarious.
Tractor pulls down here in Georgia are usually done with trucks to. The drag racing tracks also usually have a mini track for kids.
Most lawnmowers in the US are gasoline. It's only in the last 20 years that they've been slowly switching to battery.
Totally agree. Let them play make up. Set them in front of mirrors with a bunch of makeup and let them go to town. They are children!
We also have a Calf Scramble where they tie ribbons around calves neck, some have a cash reward, and then release a whole herd of them. Kids chase them down and have to grab the ticket off the calf to get the award.
lol that jail cell is comfy. >.>
The jail cell that's scary is the one with multiple beds and your roommate Bubba who likes to cuddle.
Even on "The Shore", it is still very agricultural with all the aquaculture; fishing, clamming, crabbing, . . .
I don’t mind pageants or mutton busting. It’s definitely a problem if you’re forcing the kids, but a lot of the time they want to
Wow! Jersey? I figured it was somewhere west of the Mississippi. As a Texan, I'd feel right at home.
Sweet tea is something you either hate it or love it, there is no in between lol
Yep. I love no sugar iced tea but hate sweet tea.
LMAO on the driving lawn mowers! And the Dixie chopper is priceless, first I've heard that.🤣
I live in Indiana and if you go to jail they charge you for "rent" and food and all the expenses of having to incarcerate you!
That's how it should be everywhere!!! No sense in law abiding citizens paying to house and feed a criminal!!!
She needs to see our demolition derbys!!!
Yo Bro, LOL!! There was a meme 20yrs ago, of all these hot chicks crowding around a farmer on his big tractor, when they foud out that his big tractor cost more than a Lambo. 😆
Even Americans with electric mowers can plug them in outside. We have electrical outlets on the outside of our houses.
Blooming onions are good
