two things , one this is bad ass finding inspiration, two , i really like seeing that you answer people back, least your head is grounded to the fans , ty for that
I'm sold. The ability to record in DAW each drum best separately and add filters effects and the added reverb and delay effects sold me.Looks killer sounds killer.Cooool.
Now this is like ... amazing to hear what's coming out of this machine!! Of course props to the musician! I am buying one of those in the next few weeks :))
Roland should contact you to become their rapresentative, it's far better than any performance i've ever since on TR08, thanks Kink, you never ever stop amazing us! ps: Sonntag and Express are probably two of the best tracks i've heard too!
This inspiring video made me buy a Roland TR-8 and it is my best acquisition of 2015. Thanks to you Kink! Now I releashed myself a video showing my skills on that beast on my page.
Your videos have made up my mind to purchase one of these. When they were first announced the snob in me dismissed it instantly, but after some research I've come to the conclusion that this is a very good piece of kit, and it looks so much fun. I was thinking of getting the D16 software drum machines but have now decided to go with this as I think it will really compliment my TB-303. Great videos, thanks for posting.
loved your live set at Heidi's Jackathon party at hideout. Definitely stood out set was insane! Can't believe i have randomly come across your youtube channel. Mental.
Roland owes you some, I bought one just this Saturday after watching this. It lacks analogue magic for sure but in general sounds solid, I've just started with it (and with drum machines in general), after a while (and some manual reading) everything seems pretty intuitive. But I've spent some hours without realizing that shuffle knob is up to the max, lol
Just so dope!! the best possible ad that anyone could have ever imagined is you getting down on this machine. So enjoyable to watch and listen to! You are the next aphex twin man!
your demo shows what we can do with TR 8 ... it really makes you want to buy it .... thank you....I love the beginning of this demo .... reverb is terrible too. yes ! thanks
Possibly the most inspiring electronic producer/performer i've come across in a long time! Love the hands on philosophy! Would be great to see you smash a live set in sub club over here in scotland!
Masterful to say the least. My reaction went something like: Nice. cool. very cool. that's new. oh. OH. WHAT?!$!?! (throws hands in the air). ....no way. F***!!! that was awesome. There is still so much more to learn. Thank you KiNK...thank you.
Dude, pretty impressive... Actually reminded me of some of the old school Detroit Mixshow DJ's (e.g. Jeff Mills... if you've never heard his set; he's on youtube)... Keep doin' ya thang, my man.
hey kink303 i am absolutely in love with the crunch around 14:03... i was just wondering if that type of distortion is possible to achieve with a tr-8 & a DAW instead of through your mackie mixer... if so then i am running to the store right now!!!
cheers! sure, you can do it with a distortion plugin. I really recommend D16 Decimort, it also gives some sort of "good" digital distortion like the early samplers. But there are millions of options, the Saturator in Ableton does the job very well too
ow yeah man! Frankenstein comes to mind.... IT'S ALIIIIIVE!!! amazing what you do with just a frikkin' drummachine! :D makes me think i need to spend more sexy time with it! very inspirational s*** right there! big ups man!
Just ordered my machine and can't wait to mess around with it. Love your video man! Care to shed some light on how you got that sound around 3:30? It sounds like a pluck melody but I am assuming it's one of the drum sounds pitched up? Such a great sound. Thanks!
I still wondering how I can get this sound which is on "RimShot" - no sample on my Tr-8 (including the "addon") sounds like this :( Kink is changing the Tune of this sound at 2:56 - so you will know which I mean!
He is using a fast delay with a long feedback setting for the claves, toms and cowbell sounds he is triggering live, then adjusting the tune and delay time.
Great demo. A bit of a miss for me that they omitted multiple hardware outputs. The machine sounds good - but for me if I was trying to not use a computer and mix on the board it seems there is no way to break out sounds for processing. Nothing sounds sexier than 808 toms through a space echo. Well, seems it's Miami or bust(ed wallet) if you want a hardware 808 with multiple outs. Thanks for posting :-)
TR-8 has 4 outs. Each can receive 1 or more drums of your choice. For the 'mains', this is done using panning. For the 'individual' outs, it's done using the boot menu. Not obvious how to do this from the crap manual, but it's totally possible as detailed online. Maybe you think 4 isn't enough? More is always better with outputs, I admit. e.g. 4 outputs: * kick to ind out 1 for ext compression/dist * toms to ind out 2 for Space Echo! * everything else to stereo outputs 1 and 2: snare sent through internal reverb, clap through delay, hats used dry It's enough to work with, but yeah, ideally I'd want all my instruments to have individual outputs for everything so that all levelling and such could happen on my mixer, rather than having to switch between control surfaces (or menu diving..)
two things , one this is bad ass finding inspiration, two , i really like seeing that you answer people back, least your head is grounded to the fans , ty for that
You are definitely a genius in my book. They way you switched up the tempo after building the beat from the beginning. Extraordinary my friend.
Bravo man that was class! I'm sure everyone watches your videos now wants the Roland haha! Honestly ... Brilliant nice work
Awesome. I love my TR8. This is a spectacular example of what its capable of.
u spreading insiration to the whole globe man...ty for givving me the chance to watch and listen this awesome jaming !
I'm sold. The ability to record in DAW each drum best separately and add filters effects and the added reverb and delay effects sold me.Looks killer sounds killer.Cooool.
Good demo! Good skills...Especially entertaining dancing skills, music's well conceived, develops/grows very organically! Nice work!!
I can’t seem to make my tr8 do that 😂
absolutely incredible! really pushing the instrument to the limit!
Skills!! Skills, wow, skills at subtle musicianship with a limited tool!! amazing. thank you very much for sharing some of your music inspiration!!
So far the better Tr-8 demo I've ever seen. Congrats bro ;)
Now this is like ... amazing to hear what's coming out of this machine!! Of course props to the musician! I am buying one of those in the next few weeks :))
@Kink 303..thanks for the inspiration and keep up the good work. I hope to see you perform in England one day soon
can't believe u kept my attention the whole video with just a drum machine. Great job Kink303
Did not see the Footwork beat coming
Roland should contact you to become their rapresentative, it's far better than any performance i've ever since on TR08, thanks Kink, you never ever stop amazing us!
ps: Sonntag and Express are probably two of the best tracks i've heard too!
Imaginary long distance high five
I want an 808 and a 909, but can't afford one, this seems a perfect alternative for less then 1/8th of the price.
Awesome! That equipment produces wonderful sounds without a doubt!
This inspiring video made me buy a Roland TR-8 and it is my best acquisition of 2015. Thanks to you Kink!

Best one out there. Hope he gets all the recognition he deserves.

Professional at work. Tip-fucking-top stuff

Mate, that was brilliant!
Now this is a reason to get the TR-8! Who needs authenticity when it can sound like this!
+Pete Horam Precisely my thoughts! Wow this thing is INSANE!
Wow. Inspiring. Excellent work!

I would love to have a Kink sticker to point to when im explaining where I learned some of these ideas...

Really cool, hard not to buy one of these now ... although it was in your hands :)

Dude, pretty impressive... Actually reminded me of some of the old school Detroit Mixshow DJ's (e.g. Jeff Mills... if you've never heard his set; he's on youtube)...
Keep doin' ya thang, my man.
Nice love watching the tr-8 used as performance machine rather just a back beat.
Sweet work man

A w e s o m e!!!!
Greetings from spain!
magic gr8 to see something different
At 4:12 it starts getting really freaky good. Nice demo test.
I've been in two minds about the TR-8 for a while now.... but not anymore!
impressive performance !
stunning performance :@)
From 15:10 sounds awesome
I still wondering how I can get this sound which is on "RimShot" - no sample on my Tr-8 (including the "addon") sounds like this :(
Kink is changing the Tune of this sound at 2:56 - so you will know which I mean!
This "test" slowly melted my face. Amazing jam.
How is he getting notes out of it though? I thought it was a drum machine with drum samples..?
A lot of these have tune knobs, so you can adjust the pitch of the toms for example
He is using a fast delay with a long feedback setting for the claves, toms and cowbell sounds he is triggering live, then adjusting the tune and delay time.
Nice ...this thing is a beast sounds amazing....does this have different drum kits to choose?
so I am abt to get tr 909 ..but now I am looking at this video thinking, I could save for now and get tr 8 instead ...
Beautiful
Excellentissime 😍
great video kink :-)
que tipo inteligente, proyecta muy bien la musica!

The man needs a Grammy
Yes, I like it!
whoaw after watching this I need to get down with my tr-8 for some one on one time. Maybe a overdrive pedal aswell?
