Just got my TR-8S a few days ago to have while I finish out the last of my chemotherapy, and after a bunch of tutorial videos on how to use it, watching yours a few times helped learn how to really PLAY it. Such a dynamic machine! Having so much more fun with it than I already was! Thank you!
The BassStation II was my very first synth, and I just picked up the TR-8S a few weeks ago. Was happy to stumble upon your set, recording just the way I do! No mastering, all live. Nice set.
This is awesome! I keep coming back to this video, I love the subtle textures and the hypnotic rhythms you’ve made. I think I need a tr8s to accompany my BS2!
Same here. I love the bass tone and the intricate little textures that keep it moving forward. I have a Tr-8 but can see the 8s joining my arsenal in the very near future
Such a great Sound ! Fantastic track for only these two instruments. I own both myself and hearing this makes me wanna spend less time in front of the computer and more time in front of these bad boys! nicely done!
Well that was humbling video for me and anyone else who thought they were pretty good with their TR-8S 😂 Amazing job - more creativity and variety there than Roland’s promotional vids.
Very good, good talking drum machine... a fundamental piece of the four that are in the configuration of Disc Show Man... you need some electronic percussion, a good synthesizer keyboard and a good multi pad... Good luck and let's all go with joy ....
It's a damn good techno track! Respect, it reminds me of the good old days, when techno music was mainly underground.🔥
I too will be an owner of the TR-8s. Where did you learn to conjure up such awesome techno with it? Can you give future TR-8s a tip on their way to successful techno production? Peace, keep it up!❤🔥
It’s mind blowing if you think how many classics of different genres the 808/909 where used on. Will be interesting to see what the next gen does with this, I realise it’s not analogue but it’s getting harder to tell, and it has so many features the originals did not. Enjoyed your jam 👍 trying not to let it make me pull the trigger. Gunna wait till the used prices go down. Wonder if anyone will be paying 5 grand for one of these in 30 years time!!!
Was already planning on the Tr8s as my next buy but this just sold me even more. Was thinking of an impact or drum brute but this is a step up. Cost as well but worth it I think.
Just got my TR8s today and learned so much by watching you perform. I now get how to use the delay and how you bring tracks in for a moment that catch the tail of the delay. Thats dope. I know the control knoweb is assignable. May I ask what function you assigned your control knob to on ride cymbal track? It seems like it's says depth of LPF when you turn that cntr knob. It creates such a powerful and hypnotic vibe. I love it dude. Thanks again for opening my eyes early on.
Hi Bob! Glad to see that my video helped you. It probably the LPF on that knob (dont forget to push up the resonance a bit to give more presence to the sound). Enjoy the new baby 🙂
@@sylys1116 right on. Thanks. And I know this sounds like a dumb question, but could a Moog Sub 37 be used the same way the Bass Station was used to sidechain the signal into the TR8s? I am not familiar with this technique or how it works. Thanks again.
This is above any regular techno set you can hear at a club, well done. Are these built in sounds? or did you put your own samples into it as well? I am thinking about a live setup: RD8s, sh101, tb303, some effect pedals and maybe my rc505.
I’ve had a TR8s and Bass Station ii for a couple years to play for fun, but I’ve never been able to get them to properly sync. I have every cable imaginable (got frustrated and bought 2 of each and every one available at guitar center). How to I properly sync them with my monitor speakers?
@@chriscrowderguitar Yes - it will clock - in this example via midi cable. And the sidechain is where each time the Kick drum (or whatever you choose) hits, it ducks the sound of the bass note to give that pumping effect. Leon says somewhere in the comments that the BSii is just playing a long held note, but if you set up the BD as the sidechain source, each time that kick hits, it cuts the sound of the Ext In so it sounds like the notes are going on and off in a pumping manner.
What is the parameter that lets you do that echo thing... I know it's probably called reverb, but my reverb doesn't seem to work that way... Great demo by the way. :)
The problem I am having for now, is that the Velocity-sensitive pad would have been more useful to get the kind of fast/multi-notes convoluted rhythmical beats I want to get out of an instrument, but when I use this, the playback doesn't get replicated as such, instead it plays back in single-notes non-fast-rhythmical pace, that is unintended. It appears that this problem I am experiencing is related to perhaps tempo setting issue?, or perhaps only achievable using sub steps and flams?. Any hints/tips appreciated.
Thanks! $100 is not a lot to get a synth, but I would recommand looking for a korg volca (eventually a second hand). The Bastl Instrument Kastle seems to be an interesting toy fitting your budget, but I never tested it for now.
Amazing! That sound that comes and goes, on the 7th track of your 8s! Love it! Is that a sample or one of the synthesized drums? I just ordered one and can’t wait to jam with it!

Hope you are doing well and still having fun making music. I'm thinking about buying one tomorrow!
Like will u survive?
Thanks for such a nice feedback. Hope you're fine.
Rock on dude🤘
Wait what Chemotherapy? Hope you're alright mate!
I just ordered my TR-8S as my B-day present (a month early). If I get wife-aggro, I'm sending her here. You're to blame. Cheers! :)

Probably one of the best live youtube jams I've seen.
video after video in trying to find information about the tr8 I got stuck watching the jam
This rocks !! I wanna get myself a bass station II, and eventually a tr8-s and if this corker isn’t a sign..
Splendid jam!
Great vid man, definitely feeling inspired now! My Tr-8s is coming tomorrow I look forward to using it!

Awesome jam, you are really showcasing the potential of the TR-8S!
one of the best demos so far , glad i found it!
Hi, nice song ! Just got mine yesterday and omg i m totally in love with this tr-8s !
Nice, man! Love the dark vibe, good showcase for the tech.
one of 1st inspirational jams on tr8s
Cool work, I ordered the TR-8S, I'm really excited.
Yeah i ordered mine too a week ago. Still have to wait till february though :( sold my tr-8. Butt i have my Maschine mk3 still :)
@@chrismacintos6304 yeah, they also told me about some delay, that's a pity. But means we can look forward to it a bit longer😉

Can you make a tutorial video on the Roland TR-8S and how you like to setup your effects and sample on it to sound so clean and natural.
really nice beat!
Great jam...My proposed set up too, glad i found this...keep it up.
Great sounding Jam! Nice one!
Cool deep and dark jam👽 It reminds me of one of my tracks🙂
That was an amazing set of great tracks. Thank you for that!
Thanks for your support !
Very very nice! Thumbs up👍👍👍
Nice! Inspiration to get the bs2 out 😁 not tried the ext in yet on the tr8s. Mmmmmm good work 👌🔥👌
that migros ice tea in the background is the best in the world

is the hats that starts around at 0:43 and 2:24 from the buit in factory kits or you imported your own sample? Sounds too surreal to my ears god...
This comes from the factory samples. I just used a long feedback delay. Thx for the feedback :-)

I wasn't sure which one to buy: tr8s or novation circuit (half price of tr8s)
Now, because of you, I think I know
Thanks for the vid
Awesome, is BassStation only for the baseline with filer cutoff?
Yes exactly
Really good!
Excellentissime
Man are you on facebook after listning to this im gonna get this combo but need help in the set up.
Nice work! Are you sidechaining the bass station using the tr8s external in?
Samuel Yang thx for the feedback! Yeah exactly I used the sidechain
Not exactly what this means. Will it also keep midi clock sync?
@@chriscrowderguitar Yes - it will clock - in this example via midi cable. Mostly long delay and reverb

When you use the velocity-sensitive pad, the steps will be quantized. Maybe in the user manual you can find a way to quantize using more (sub-)steps

Hey Leon, your bs2 is not syncing via midi? Did you just manually set the tempos on 129 and pressed start to see if it would align? :)
