Its usually Pearl Jam that are also included in that grouping Thomas, and Stone Temple Pilots are a bit of an afterthought. So I agree with Mia that they are often overlooked.
What with the bands musicianship and Scott’s unequaled vocals, Stone Temple Pilots should be in the rock Hall of Fame, and especially if Pearl Jam is there.
@@miajc6606 definitely, and a few other bands that came out in that era as well. But instead they put in Tupac, NWA and Grandmaster Flash, all great, but not rock
It took me seeing this interview to realize that Robert was the musical genius behind STP. They all had amazing talent - but Robert was the mastermind.
Probably my favorite interview that you've done. It was a real treat having Robert DeLeo talk about his influences and demonstrate how they were incorporated into his basslines. He just has an enthusiasm for music in general that is just infectious.
Saw them in Buenos Aires last month. I stood just about 2 meters away from Robert. Absolutely KILLER BASS PLAYING! STP blew my mind. They are AWESOME!!!
@@oskarfunes2505 If you ever have the chance to go and see them, you will be amazed. Flawless performance. And, my God, that bass. I never saw something like that.
I'll be yet another person to come and rave about Robert, such a incredible bassist, and composer. I don't recall who produced and engineered the STP stuff but whoever they were, I thank them for doing such a great job and also ensuring all of Robert's characteristic lines were able to be clearly heard by us all who love the band.
Wow! The best memories of my teenage years... STP -- first bumper sticker on my car and on my bedroom wall... My parents asked "What's with you young kids and taking the vowels out of everything?!"
one of the most accessible and humble complete heroes I've ever seen. What a man. I think that's one reason why Robert and STP have gone so unheralded: So low key and humble.
That chorus hits hard u can tell by his reaction iconic song this is when I heard it come across the radio for the first time I was sucked in like a vacuum
As much as his bass is a mainstay of importance it was easily met with the rest with all members, Scott's lyrical verse and chorus is absolute perfection as well of course the guitar. They were easily the most consistent in making amazing songs in their genre and beyond.
Would have been nice to actually hear what he was playing. Dean is such an underrated guitarist I wish you’d get him in there and ask about his jazz background. Learning those chords to interstate love song was a bitch when I was 14
STP was gonna be, supposed to be, that next great and iconic musical group mentioned in the same breath with the great bands of all time. Tragic that they were cut so short. Interstate Love Song is flawless.
Robert is one of the greatest bassists in the modern era. His influences are pretty clear- James Jamerson, John Paul Jones and Flea, just to name a few.
I've always believed that Robert is one of the most talented, innovative bassists ever. The rock of STP, as well. He truly is underrated, and that is a shame. Seems like a really cool guy, too.
Hands down the best band out of the '90s, closest to Zeppelin we've had since the '70s, their musical evolution from hard rock to more melodic stuff is unparalleled by any other '90s band, noone else from that time frame came close to their musical versatility and writing quality
Underrated bass player! Actually, I really think Stone Temple Pilots as a whole should receive more recognition.

Heck yeah! They were my post-nirvana obsession along with silverchair. Damn, I miss the 90's
Damn, sometimes I miss the 90's so much it hurts.
Absolutely
Best time ever!! Born in 1979, graduated HS in 98. 90’s were a total blast!
No it doesn’t
It took me seeing this interview to realize that Robert was the musical genius behind STP. They all had amazing talent - but Robert was the mastermind.
One of the best bass lines ever!
Agreed.
The guitar solo in that song is killer as well, one of my favorites. The DeLeo brothers are awesome musicians.
Same. Love that solo. Bass part on Sour Girl is also quite creative.
As great of a frontman Scott was this band would have gone nowhere without Robert and Dean
Same could be said about Weiland..Without him it wasn't happening.
that bass riff during the chorus has always been 🔥
His bass parts for the whole tune are killer, not just the chorus
@@deadreckoning292 apparently Kretz came up with it all.
@@Fakename70not true. If you watch Robert's interview with Rick he said he came up with the some of the bass but all of the fills were Roberts
@@Davo198
I did watch it. Didn't Rob say he played it just like Kretzel did on the demo?
@@Fakename70 no
Rick is so deep in that culture. He knows everyone good and everyone knows him it seems.
Underrated bass player. STP tunes are bass driven imo.
one of my favorite bass parts of all time
same. We currently cover about 4 of their songs and this one is always my fav.
Legendary bassist
Great bass player. Beautiful bass line
Great bass line and song - all of it
Sweet rhythmic articulation. I get chills listening. Reminiscent of Geezer Butler fills.
> Reminiscent of Geezer Butler fills
Barely but I see where you're coming from. (I like Geezer Butler's better xd.)
To each their own I guess.
Geezer couldn't carry his cases.
what a band
His bass playing on creep was also really good he’s a really good bass player
Tiny music was a really awesome record song for song
A woefully underrated and under appreciated talent! A superior bass player and musician!
Most underrated bassist in rock music. He’s untouchable. Iconic lines.
absolutely. He is so Jonesy
@@johnnicholson8345You said it… “so Jonesy.” Brilliant bassists!
STP Rocked!
They could of been bigger than
Nirvana !!!
There musical content was far
Beyond
I’ve always thought that bass line was so sick, so tasteful.
awesome bass line
Legend
That was cool.
Probably my favorite interview that you've done. It was a real treat having Robert DeLeo talk about his influences and demonstrate how they were incorporated into his basslines. He just has an enthusiasm for music in general that is just infectious.
The DeLeo Bros. Genetically bonded & cross pollinated. Top of the Rock food chain straight out the box.
Man, I do sometimes forget just how damn good he is. That is an absolute banger of a performance.

Great bass player. STP is one of my all time favorites!
This was an amazing episode. Rob is just crazy with those dynamicblends of bossa, jazz, funk, and rock. Drives my ears with tune!!!
What an absolute beast of a bass player. He was Stone Temple Pilot's secret weapon.
It took me til the 2020s to realize how insane this band was.
🤗 Definitely love how "thick" the Bass always sounded in STP songs. 🥰🐰
what a great player
Wow! The best memories of my teenage years... STP -- first bumper sticker on my car and on my bedroom wall...

😂👍🏻
One of the favorite bass lines ever!
This whole album rocks
Robert is soooo underrated! That walk up was so clean 🧼
one of the most accessible and humble complete heroes I've ever seen. What a man. I think that's one reason why Robert and STP have gone so unheralded: So low key and humble.
Probably the greatest bassist of the 90s. Such great feel I can’t think of anyone who even comes close.
Another guy like him who gets no ink is The bassist for Our Lady Peace. Very clever lines that add so much.
Claypool but their styles are so different. 😂
They are a legendary rock band. Not just a "grunge" band.
That bass, man... just amazing. And I still think STP were underrated.
He is an amazing bass player. That bass lick at the last chorus on Sour Girl is f'ing amazing.
First time I heard that I had to rewind like 20 times in a row just to try to figure out “what the heck was that?!?”
Killer bass line! Everytime I listen to this song, I listen to the bass. Hooky
What song is it?
Wish I could have heard what he was playing.
Incredible bassist
Robert isn't just "a bassist who happens to play for STP". He IS STP..Best songwriter of all time!
So under rated. I love this guy.
Imagine having a music community and so many music friends
They were awesome... love Robert's playing and writing
My favorite STP song 😊
STP is one of the best to ever do it! In my top 10 of all time . Killer bass lines crazy chords amazing drummer and Scott was a true front man
Killer bass lines, so underrated. Both him and stp
Killer bassist and perfect note selection.
That bass line is beyond awesome and unique ❤️
I used to love trying to learn his basslines growing up. They were so inspiring and showed how you can tastefully stretch within a rock tune.
Such a good song, such a good band.
LOVE Robert and Dean.
The song is Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart
That chorus hits hard u can tell by his reaction iconic song this is when I heard it come across the radio for the first time I was sucked in like a vacuum
Love Tiny Music
I saw the whole interview on your channel. Really a great listen, I have loved STP since they came out.
One of my fave STP songs, and LOVE the bassline
Listen close to all their songs. This man is a beast at the 16th notes
Not near enough respect goes to this guy. Fantastic bassist.
Still love STP🎉❤🎉
That was the era!!🎸
Amazing. Power groove. Rob DeLeo ;;;
So good!
I've always LOVED this bass line!!
Wow man DeLeo is underrated.

Without drugs in the picture it makes me wonder how big stp could've become
Robert is fabulous,studio and stage❤
DeLeo bros rule...that fucking band rawked.
Robert is the man!
Amazing bass in that song.
This song was one of my fave's when learning Bass back then, so cool.

Robert is the standout in STP. Legendary.
Such a great band, best band of 90s. I love this band, so much talent and unique sound
Love his playing - how he just coasts along, yet plays so SOLID!
