F-20 had completely new engine, with almost double the thrust, so it was mach 2 capable. Also it had more advanced avionics and weaponry.

There was a video of a famous UA-camr, forgot his name. A single enemy plane was slow and literally just flying about their field. He didn't get shot once. Then he RTB and the youtuber went for a strafing run and got pilot sniped by the AAA from 2-3km range.
Ive more often got tked by aaa when running back to the af than ever got saved by aaa when the enemy is strafing the af
@@Shadowhunterbg was flying sim yesterday, had a 190 dogfight me over our airfield and AAA didn’t shoot a single round at him for a full 3 circles directly over the runway at abt 1500 ft above it. Meanwhile, I was flying a zero later that day and abt 1 1/2 miles away from an AF I took a single AA round that set me on fire and put me in the dirt

I've been playing the F-5A a lot lately and have racked up over 5 million silver lions because of it. I absolutely love the aircraft and when it comes to the US tree, I'm definitely grinding for them.

@@DikaWisnu F-5C used in Vietnam is Exactly the same as the in game F-5A except it had a refueling probe.
Once their service in Vietnam ended they were literally redesignated into American F-5A's again lol.
@@quartzlandaker5664 Oh, they will. But i have a real feeling Gaijin intentionally gave only China the F-5 so that people would finally play the Chinese tree. But at the same time, now the content is a bit more spread out: US got the F-8 and in later update probably will receive both the F-5C and F-5E for the tech tree (unless the C becomes a premium or squadron vehilce... i mean what isn't possible nowadays?).

F-20 with it's single F404 engine (same one as on the F-117 Nighthawk) has 60% more thrust than both the J85 engines of the F-5 combined. This allows for a TWR of 1.13, which is slightly higher than modern day fighters like the F-16, F-15 and even F-22.
0:55 there is room in the nose for a radar. It was just left out of the A variant to save costs since it was meant to be a cheap export fighter. A bunch of F-5As got radars later in life, and the F-5E has the same nose design with a radar.
The F-5 has 2 varients that were used, the F-5 A/B, which was the majority export version, and the F-5E/F which was the modernized version with the ability of using 4 aim-9's and even 4 aim-120 amraams. The F-20 was a upgraded F-5E that did not leave the prototype phase
A vanilla F-5E definitely isn't AMRAAM-capable. Sure, some upgraded versions (like those in Singapore for example) are AIM-120-capable, but these ones can't be added to the game rn.
Not to mention those 2 prototypes that crashed which killed the test pilots due to G-LOC, AND the whole program cancelled by ronald reagan when he imposed an embargo and him eyeing on the F-16 as a better one.

Yeah the f5 was amazing at launch and still is, but pre patch it could sustain a 14g turn without wing rip it was insane
f-20 had advanced avionics and weaponry. It also housed the same engine the grippen has, making it mach 2 capable

The F-20 was a experimental F-5 with the F16 engine and completely new avionics, but it never entered production. In the on other hand you have the F-5E which is probably be one of the F5's on the american tree, and It is the more advanced F5's it is Mach 1.8 capable and has completely new avionics including a radar. This version of the F5 is so advanced that it keeps toe to toe with most 4th generation fighters. The users of this F5 are the FAB: Brazilian air force and the Switzerland air force uses it as well.
It uses a f404, not 110. So it uses a hornet engine, not f-16

@@quartzlandaker5664 even if there is pulse Doppler radars. There is a way to defend against radar homing missiles. Both offensively and defensively. I learned both in DCS, and pilots will use the tactics irl

at about 8:38 I have to say that sometimes it's best to just spray, like in a dogfight when you have your guns pretty much on target ahead of the enemy. It's better to spray and guarantee a kill than to do controlled bursts and possibly miss or only crit, because then you have to continue engaging them, which bleeds your altitude and speed, and you have to expend more ammo in an effort to get the kill - often this'll mean you spend more ammo than if you just sprayed. Controlled bursts are only good if you have great aim and can guarantee the kill in that burst.
That's exactly what I do with my f5 but I bomb a base first.. Then go lurking near the bottom like a shark til I see an opportunity... Most of the time no one notices me.. I fly right through the middle of everyone most of the time too.. The ones that do see me find out I can snap around quicker than them and keep most of my energy and well you know the rest
When you were talking about the mirage with the great angle of attack I've learned that I can beat a mirage and mig 21s in dogfights with the T2 because the T2 has a good balance of AoA and regular turning.
F-20 had a radar, ECM, Heads Up Display and MMC. Same engine as the F/A-18A Hornet with a 1 to 1 thrust ratio. Was capable of 9g with lots of commonalities with older F-5s...cool little plane

Regarding the F-5's knack for pillboxes you mentioned, it's due to the fact that the aircraft's other role besides being a fighter is ground attack.
So yeah. It *LOVES* to take out ground targets like pillboxes.
F20 was the F5 on steroids,
Bigger single engine, bigger intakes, extended leading edge wing strakes, fire control/search radar.
It was a competitor for the early F16.
One of the best counters to space bombers in props is American 50 cals, tons of ammo and very capable of taking out pillboxes

Best example of a tank than just has upgraded equipment is a m4a1 compared to a firefly. Same hull, turret ect, different gun turned 90 degrees and a hole cut in the rear of the turret for the recoil system.

I really like this plane I got it before the nerf and it was really good still is good but I miss the old days got the talisman for it. Also the f104 g with the 4 aim 9js is also really good. Hopefully we get some more indigenous planes, and hopefully Japan gets something too they need something that’s not a remake of a jag

the F-20 never went into production or saw service. You might be thinking of the F5-E tiger II, as it was the a large overhaul of the F5A. The F20 was introduced to compete for contracts against the F16, and the F16 won. Interestingly enough the F20 / F5E was reworked again to make the YF-17 which eventually became the F18, so there is a little bit of common design DNA between the F5s and the F18
I swear there was a tank that went through the same changes where they basically replaced all the internals.

2:50 normal the mirage doesn't turn as well as it should, it should have a better turn rate than the mig 21, but the mig 21 can beat it, it's so dumb. Also the f5 only has a 0.5 thurst to weight ratio, it shouldn't hold it's energy that well but anyway

And you only get low Thrust to Weight on the F-5 if you go full fuel, which nobody does given how slowly it burns it up.
Most F-5's fly at even 10 minutes of fuel.Leaving it above 0.7 TWR, thrust that is not that far off from Phantoms and Mirages 0.8 TWR that usually fly full fuel.
It's amazing maneuverability and decent energy retention is because of how tiny, sleek, aerodynamic and *lightweight* the airframe.
You can only beat it it with your thrust to weight advantage if you engage in a prolonged low speed rate fight to bleed off it's energy.Which is suicide in Air RB anyway.

Yeah, the mig-21 was actually a horrible dog fighter in real life. It lost to some phantoms way back in the day. As represented by real life and by DCS, trying to fight a mirage in a 1 circle is a death sentence.

i completely agree, the only thing in the chinese tree remotely desirable is the q-5 cause it looks cool... but i can get literally everything else in other trees

I wish the older jets got updated after burner effects, for example the G.91 YS has the old after burner effects, and the F-5A has literally the exact same engines but has the much better looking after burner

Yeah this is what I meant, planes like the F-100, MiG-19 (both), G.91 YS, Sabre Dog (F-86K) Jaguars. All of the old aircraft have the old after burner effects from when they were added, but then the new super sonic age came around and they left the old afterburner effects still there on the old aircraft
they shold add the norweigan F-5a(g), its the same as the normal f5a but has rwr, flares/chaff, ccip and can use the aim9l(could be replaced with aim9p for gameplay)

the f20 is basically a mix of the F5 and the F16, it can carry AMRAM-120 on the wingtips just like the F16, it has a single engine and a completely new avionics including an electro optical camera inbeddend in the fuselage kinda like the f35 + an integrated ECM in the vertical rudder root
The F-20 never carried AIM-120s, it was cancelled before that missile came into service in 1991. It could use AIM-7s though
you should try using the f-5 as a CAS fighter in tank battles
No counter measures = No toptier BR, but that would make sense. Hope I can be bothered to grind it out when the US tree finally gets it. Hope I then can be bothered to expert it to have a chance in a dogfight. Hope I also can survive the suffering long enough to get missiles on it. A CC should try it some day, using a stock top tier vehicle on a crewlv1/1.5 slot, then ask themselves if they could grind all the RP required. Try it with the J35D in todays state of the game and servers.

Gosh I want this thing in the US tree so badly! Don't know why they didn't add it there first. Don't get me wrong, the F-4E is fun, but the US has no good support fighters and nothing that can turn fight. It would make matches so much more interesting if it was more than just F-4Es vs. The World! Besides, the US almost never gets the best variant of their export fighters and usually ends up with the worst (F-86-A5, F-104A and C with two freaking Aim-9Bs fighting at 10.7 often, F-4EJ)

I have this plane. I agree it's good just don't let anyone behind your because the missiles will yeet you. Also when F-5A is on your 6, you won't shake it off.

@@hurbrowns5397 I main the darken, and can dodge 4 consecutive missiles. You don’t have to turn hard to dodge a missile. And not letting people behind you is the most obvious fact I’ve ever heard.

Telling me you can dodge 4 missiles is irrelevant. Draken has faster speed and acceleration than F-5A. All jets will lose speed dodging 4 missiles, not all missiles launched are intended to kill but for plane to lose enough speed for the chasing plane to catch up go for a gun kill or other planes to shoot you down
F-5A is probably the slowest and have the least acceleration 10.7 fighter jet. Every other 10.7 jet will catch up to you easily in straight line. So the tactic of shoot a missile, evade to slow down and another jet will missile you is a common effective tactic against F-5A at the start of the game, especially a lot of players go for F-5A quick because everyone knows it doesn't have flares. In 1v1 or 2v1 it's not much of a problem of course since you can just out-manoeuvre any jet. So as in the video said, it's a great support plane and great at 1v1(or 2).

yesterday i was playing mig-19
and was in uptier we had 2 on our team 1 on enemy
i ran out of fuel and went to land we had F5 and enemies had Draken
the fight took a long time but eventually the f5 shot the draken down i was amazed i thought i would have to come on my mig 19 and missile this draken but before i managed to do that the f5 got the draken down
Fun fact: the F-5A has a lower empty weight than the Ta-152H-1. Sure, the Ta isn’t exactly a featherweight, but I think you get what I mean

I’m a bad pilot but I’ve never lost a dogfight against a mirage in the f5, even when it’s a 2v1. The f5 can just do so much better even though it’s missing 2000lb if thrust. Should be the same as the g91ys

I think they secretly reversed the nerf because yes on the first day of the nerf I would rip in a 14g turn with no weapons and min fuel and it sucked.. Then about a day later i could couldn't break the damn thing or its different in RB compared to flying in pilotage. I haven't done further testing
