Ok so here’s the truth. I work for an independent Rolex AD in the South of England. There are no “Dummy” models. In our store exhibition models are watches that are already allocated but remain on display fully stickered until the next consignment comes in at which point they are sold to the buyer. All AD’s are required to have a certain amount of watches on display at any given time so this is the best way to achieve that. No dummies or watches that go back for CPO. Simple as that
I doubt all the dealers world wide started working all together to back door them. Besides sure Rolex tracks the sales very close. If you own a shop doubt you risking all that for a few extra grand.
I can't say I know much about the inner workings of Rolex dealers, but I can say this: when I went looking around 2 years ago, every Rolex boutique had maybe one watch per window and usually just one watch per case inside the shop. All of them were listed Display Only and none of them, and none of the models in the windows were ever running. Fast forward to this week, and the dealer in a nearby suburb had four or five watches in each window, all of them running and set to the correct time. The windows still had the Display Only tags in the corner, but I suspect that's much more of a formality these days. Whatever the case, supply appears to be significantly higher than it's been since the Before Times.
I love my Casio it is silver and reminds me of my Rolex Datejust. But the best watch is either a Casio G schock or a Grand Seiko With the springdrive novement which is an mechanical and quartz movement it has a +1,-1 seconds accuracy in 1 day.
Here’s my experience, my AD has all Rolexes that they get as exhibition (unless they get multiple of one model) they keep them as exhibition only until they get another shipment in, once a new shipment has come in theyre up for sale. They only let customers with previous purchasing history try them on and they’ve told me just wait 4 weeks until we get more watches, then you can buy it. They do this for just released Tudors as well. Im in a tiny developing country so it makes sense to keep them on display until they have more watches to sell so their display doesnt look empty.
@@RebelliosaurusI checked out a Tudar watch the Pelagos which looks nice but it is just over5,500$ and for a vintage Rolex Datejust can get some 3-5,000$ on Chrono24.
The exhibition concept was just a way for Rolex to appear to address the negative brand image perpetuated by empty display cases at ADs; they were probably receiving alot of customer complaints that AD display windows were starting to project out of business and closeout vibes 😅
Thailand: depending on the AD you can find pretty much any model in display (from platinum Daytona to easy steel models), ask nicely and you can try them on (most still protected with stickers). Buying them is another matter …. I asked about the black Daytona in steel - answer: if you buy x in jewelry you get it. I declined. Looking at some grey dealers and internet sites it is so obvious that VIP clients are flipping like mad or even AD’s selling directly to the grey market … I find it sad to see. Rolex is doing nothing … it would be very easy for them to stop this but hey, the more models selling below retail the more they have to make a buck with the popular steel models (let the AD’s doing their game). I still like the Sub very much but I will not support Rolex and AD’s and pay above retail. The watch market is dead and this is good for real watch buyers.
I was told by my AD that they were required to send exhibition pieces back to Rolex and would then receive them back for sale presumably reconditioned. This was a year ago and I did purchase a piece through this mechanism - it came back fully stickered but was not sitckered when I tried it on a month or so before.
I've owned a Brietling for about 7 or 8 years. The only piece of "jewelry" I will wear. I've been bitten by the watch bug recently and kinda thought it would be cool to have a Rolex. Being totally new to the game I started investigating Rolexes on YT. OH MY GOD! All the negative videos on this watch company, I thought I was going to be walking a minefield. I was able to buy one from an AD here locally. Not the specific one I wanted, but a nice one to start. I'm not familiar with the apparent boom in watches from years past, but I guess I'm getting in at the right time. Every hobby I've had, so to speak, has had a significant learning curve.
Ok so I’ve seen the exhibition pieces with dummy movements here in the UK. Existed for a brief period. Went in a few months later and neither of the two dummies that I saw were there. They were now either keeping the display empty or keeping products that were promised to other customers but weren’t delivered yet. Other than that I completely agree with our video. Can attest to what you’re saying being true! Also yes, lots of gold in the Middle East and Asian markets because it is genuinely popular there. (Middle East partially confuses me because on one hand some Muslim friends say they shouldn’t be wearing old but others are fine with and instead prefer it). Asia (including India) has always loved TT in my experience. So no surprises there either.
I tried them on, the Gentlemen at my local AD treated me like a Million bucks. Best experience I have had. They put me on the list. I guess people don’t understand supply and demand.
5:25 I live between UK and Dubai. Yes, that is somewhat true though it would normally be expats who buy the yellow gold pieces as the local population do not buy gold to wear (only platinum). Hence, the locals are usually on a long waiting list for steel or platinum pieces (potentially with diamonds too). Also, what you said is true I think - at the height of the peak, I was told that the exhibition pieces belonged to Rolex and not the AD and therefore they could not sell them. These days, if there is something on display which I am interested in, they initially say it's not for sale but then go and speak to someone (I guess a manager) before they agree to sell it to me.
I got my Sprite after a 2+ year wait with no buying history. I DID stop in often, expressed my interest about ONE model not many and KEPT calling and stopping in. I like my AD, I’m hoping I can get another piece for my wife, they also know I want that one engraved so it’s not going anywhere. I got my Sprite in March and it’s my daily wear and yes I know for a fact they eyeball what you have on when you come in.
My dealer told me that when your (say) Submariner comes in, the Dealer's agreement with Rolex requires that they must be displayed for 2 weeks, after which you can collect your watch. Back in the 90's, on two seperate occasions several years apart, I walked into an AD in the UK and bought a GMT II and a Sea Dweller out of the window. The wait then was non-existent if they had the watch, a few weeks if they had to get it from Rolex on order. I asked about a Daytona and was told if I wanted steel, that was the only thing with a long wait - 5 years. If I wanted a solid gold one, I could have it inside a week!
I think the demand might be softening a bit. I was able to get a brand new TT Sea Dweller only took a month and was able to get a Datejust 36 with the Aubergine face for my wife as a walk in . I did spend a little time talking via phone and email and in-store visit to start establishing a relationship. I think most AD'S want to sell you a watch if your genuine and really want to own it
Exactly what I’ve heard as well. And keep in mind, before we had the exhibition pieces any watch in the display case available for sale could also be tried on by any shopper, so there’s no real difference.
My local AD was forced to buy these exhibition watches and had over $250k invested in them. They were shipped without any warranty papers. He eventually decided to retire and close his store. I was told he had hoarded over 50 watches. I'd been waiting for a Daytona for years.
I just acquired my first Rolex last month and it’s an Air King 126900. It was an exhibition piece but had lots of the factory stickers around the winder and crown guards
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on AMZWATCH 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the AMZWATCH, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
I have been to several Rolex dealers recently in Europe and Middle East - they all seem to have some watches in stock - last week, I found a 40mm Rolex explorer and several date-justs (41mm). Week before gold and platinum date justs. It seems every boutique has some watches - just not steel Daytonas and GMT’s
Hopefully you have come to your senses about getting a few more or so Rolexs?I think a full gold bluessy 41 mm blue dial would be awesome. Then do a review on it.Thanks
Hi I was offered the new Rolex gold deepsea blue besal and face 18 carrot gold as a walk in in Barcelona with no spend history with them and on holiday from UK. I was amazed as it's a really hard watch to get from the Rolex ad at home.
Check out my last Daytona video: Brand New Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 126509. Is this my last Rolex? ua-cam.com/video/xEbXFLBH2Os/v-deo.html I tried on the Yellow Gold Deepsea. It was also available for sale at my AD. It must not be in super high demand here in Pennsylvania.
Rolex is just like Ferrari where you need to own 2 or 3 of their cars to even be considered to purchase their current top model. There is a exclusive tennis club in the city in which I live that you must be recommended by 3 current members to even be considered to be able to join. Places to join like this or watches or cars that have such strict rules of ownership will never have my business!
@Ge0rGi. I am talking about how they are marketing their final product for the most part. Rolex uses machinery in their production but are hand assembled. Ferraris are hand assembled but may use machinery in their production at some point.
I went to two ad's all exhibition pieces where functional. The AD who i have a great relationship with sold me a Airking from the case. Now the other dealer had my dream watch the Yacht Master in titanium i wonder if he will sell it to me as a walk in or wait for a new shipment
I have been with my AD for seven years. When we first met, I told her that I will buy a Rolex every year but I am not going to buy anything that I don't want. I told her that I wanted my first watch to be an OP. She took my name down and a few months later. I got the call for the OP. When i picked it up, I told her that I wanted my next watch to be a datejust. I later got a call that my date just was in. I set the rules when we first met and i have never strayed away from them. Today we have an excellent relationship and I have always gotten the watches that I have wanted
@@sc1 I don’t think a gray market dealer is walking in to make a purchase and pretending to be a regular Joe. Have you seen Chrono24? The gray market is being supplied hundreds of watches.
After owning 3 Rolex watches over the years, I'm over it. Smartphones killed the need for me to have or want a watch. The money saved has been invested.
I know the owner of one of my ADs and your info is indeed correct - this is very known information for me for quite sometime now but I realize there are still so many people who are unaware of this and I have to say you did a GREAT job on this video for everyone who isn’t already in the know. Also, you might find this kinda funny - another one of my AD’s still to this day gives the ole total BS shpeel of “we can’t sell any exhibition because we don’t own them and they have to get sent back to Rolex” .. my god if they only knew how incredibly stupid they make themselves look saying this dumb-ass-ery 😂
Even I, did not have the correct information for a long time. Customers are often at a disadvantage. (Especially at car dealerships). I wish there would be more transparency across the board.
@@Hellocali1 absolutely- it has everything to do with being well connected - it’s a very unfair game - simply put, they sell to who they want to sell to - nothing more to it and nothing less
My SA once said the watches there are waiting for the "replacement exhibition" pieces to come before they sell the current piece to their "allocated" customers. But makes me wonder... are there people who really buy Rolex EVERY WEEK? How many customers can a small AD possibly have?
They look so shiny and cool with the tiny super bright overhead lights at the jewelry store but out in the wild they always look like a salesman is wearing them.
I’ve been wearing a Rolex since 1967 starting off with the GMT. now I’m sick and tired of playing Rolex games, and we can’t get a straight answer out of Rolex.
As retailer I would be pissed. All the hoops that you need to jump through and then follow to be able to sell Rolex and then not have any stock with all that waisted space that could be used for other product. What a joke.
There for sale ! I wanted to try on a Pepsi in display case in Cancun .when sales man gave it to me to try it was already sized for a client coming to pick it up 🤷🏽♂️
It's not Rolex that's a joke. It's the Rolex ADs that are an absolute joke. I do wish Rolex did more though to govern the shady distribution practices of these slimy scumbag reps and managers at these ADs.
Most of the smaller AD’s do not participate in the CPO program. They have already paid for these watches. So that means they would have to sell them to another large AD that does CPO. My source suggested they don’t wait anywhere close to 3 years. The Exhibition models are turned over, offered for retail sale, within a matter of months.
@@sc1 absolutely but in some case with larger boutiques like Buch or Wos can convert a few old stock or discounted models to cpo straight from display. I was able to get a milguass from from exhibition at a premium through cpo unfortunately
I totally agree with everything you have said I’ve been with the same AD over 20 years their is no jumping of the queue all though the last nine months I have noticed a huge turn it’s back to how it used to be we still have a 6 to 12 months wait for the special steel pieces somethings are worth waiting for 😉
1 or 2 weeks later? Even if you are not a flipper and really interested in a not so popular steel piece, that call is not coming that fast. Getting a call that fast on a steel piece would be extremely rare in my experience.
Had the chance one time to buy from display case. Pretty much ADs have to keep one of each model on the floor or as many can fill their cases. Then as one of each comes in they can sell it. You will often see a two tone sky in the case so when steel skys come in they can sell them or wait for the right person who wants the two tone model.
Without a doubt, ADs supply grey market dealers and make huge profits. There is a significant slow-to-sell Rolex inventory in the grey market, including steel sports models, some going for not too much more than retail price here in Sydney, Australia. Many are brand new stickered pieces. I guess grey market dealers are probably these "loyal customers" with a huge spend history and ADs are complicit in selling to them for big profits. I recently traded my old Rolex for a barely used, near-mint Rolex GMT Master 2 two-tone yellow gold GRNR for not much above retail price in the grey market. Made a call in the morning and picked it up that afternoon.
I'm happy you kept your submariner. Your take on "all Rolexes look the same" has made me reconsider other brands as well. What watches are you moving on to? I'm now considering Cartier as a next purchase. If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them - I'm more into sports watches or field watches - even if it's the Calatrava which can pass as a refined field watch in my uninformed opinion.
I bought 3 Rolex watches in the last 6 months from my AD. Truthfully I got lucky finding this AD. The first AD I went to it’s been 9 mounts zero calls. This one I got offered the 40mm Yacht Master blue dial about 4-5 weeks after I went in. Also got Explorer 40mm, Dayjust 40mm yellow gold jubilee bracelet with fluted bezel Wimbledon dial, 31mm dayjust jubilee fluted bezel with blue diamond flower motif. Also having custom necklace for wife done there. I am very sure when they get Christmas shipments in I will have a GMT or no date sub I wanted. Actually the jubilee bracelet skydweller would be fine too. I am 1000% sure if this. Also getting another dayjust fluted bezel with blue, green or Wimbledon dial. Will have 2 more before Christmas. I don’t know I want to reveal too much though. But there are some watches in display that get allocated. Not all of them though. Some do have to go back and to make sure they don’t sell those they don’t have cards they give you when you buy it. If you are having issues at your AD go to another one. I drive 90 minutes to this one but it’s so worth it. I can even call and get updated on if they have anything. That’s how I got the yellow gold dayjust and the one for my wife. So just having a good relationship is key.
Very true. Sometimes it is worth it to drive a little further to find an AD that is responsive and able to offer you pieces. Wondering if you were able to buy a piece from the Exhibition Only case?
@@sc1 my AD has side cases beside the exhibition case. Those are sometimes for sale but still there to try on. But the main case they have exhibition only. The side cases I think are where they put the exhibition that can get buy or get allocated. It looks like one whole display though and in middle case it says exhibition only. So yes and no. It’s part of the display and no if you are not a customer already you would not know. If you are a customer you will be allowed to buy from that case. Now once you are regular customer that buys often then you are told which are allocated and what’s not. But that’s pretty if you are spending bigger money not just one watch. They even let me know some of the pieces they know they are getting. Once again though between watches and jewelry I spent about 42k in 5 months. I will probably end up spending 80-90k a year in there truthfully. Plus I actually get along with them really good. I don’t sell my watches though. I think that was one thing is they don’t like flippers. Pretty obvious I wasn’t considering I had one but watch engraved and the desk diving scars on clasp.
Gold/Two tones were more for Russian and Asian markets as wearing gold is forbidden for Muslims. With the last plummeting figures reported in Asia and some key markets, plus the current ban on Russia, I wonder where these watches go.
Definitely the most interesting & informative channel in UA-cam,and I am your fan! I’ve been watching MAMACOO and buying them recently to complement my watch collection. Good video
Funnily enough, MAMACOO's replicas are perfect for people who can actually afford a luxury watch. Because in those social circles, it wouldn't matter and everybody would just assume it's real. You have a yacht and a beach house in Tuscany, of course that replica is real. There isn't a millionaire out there going around with a jeweller's loupe to scrutinize their acquaintance's watch. They'll just go "Oh is that a Patek? Nice, I should really get my hands on one of those, they look great."
Why would you want to be fake and pretend to wear something that is not what it claims to be? You like being a poser? Just wear a Hamilton or nice seiko if you can't afford Rolex instead of pretending to be something you're not. It's very fake and people do not like fake people.
@@steelsteez6118 Exactly. Regardless of how close to the original it looks in reality it is just a cheap item where all the investment has gone into making it look like something it isn't. Reliability is of no interest to the manufacturers, forget any warranty and getting it serviced isn't realistic as it would cost more than the watch is worth even if you can find anyone willing to do the work. A 'superclones' are purchased by insecure people who want to impress people that don't actually care.. If you can't afford, or don't want to spend Rolex money, just buy something else. I'd rather wear a base model Seiko/Citizen watch costing a few hundred than any clone.
Rolex has over 1,800 ADs around the world. There’s no way Rolex can micromanage these ADs to the point where pieces sent from the factory are marked as display pieces. It’s just pure common sense. And why would Rolex waste time and money sending out dummy watches with no movement inside them only for them to be sent back to Switzerland to finish off. Videos like these are just complete trash. Anyone who thinks these are just naive and don’t use common sense. That’s why so many idiots chasing Rolex get conned. Too many gullible people out there for Rolex and ADs to take advantage of.
There are no more dummy movements, not for a long time. I only reported that they may have done this, for a very short time, in only certain locations. Rolex no longer micromanages the ADs in this regard. The display pieces are fully functional. Once a new piece comes in, then the display piece will be released for sale… to the already allocated client.
There are good deals to be had on quasi vintage subs, GMTs, and also the Seadweller 43 as well as the TT GMT oyster. All can be had for under 15k. Just don’t be some silly ass Ukrainian and buy the Exploerer1, AirKing or OP garbage.

Check out my last Daytona video: Brand New Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 126509. Is this my last Rolex?
ua-cam.com/video/xEbXFLBH2Os/v-deo.html
I tried on the Yellow Gold Deepsea. It was also available for sale at my AD. It must not be in super high demand here in Pennsylvania.
I just tried on a DJ 36 Wimbledon that was marked display. It was fully functioning - winding, setting, date - everything worked.
Did you ask for it? I’m wondering if they would have sold you this display piece.
@@sc1 I did not. I was looking for the larger size.
Great video. Useful information and not a single mention of the Rolex Pepsi. Nicely done.
No ;Rolex watches are not like Ferrari ; because Ferrari cars are hand made cars. Rolex are machine made mass produced watches.
Dude, an AirKing? 😂
That’s the way to do it.
Outstanding video.I have to go with the MAMACOO, especially with that green dial as my favorite
Question: what do you mean by they need to make sure you are not a flipper?
They may do a search on you to make sure you are not a grey market dealers that sells watches.
Nobody buys a rolex just to tell the time. 😂
Always a good day when your video drops!Great video as always. Can’t beat it for MAMACOO watches!
My SA once said the watches there are waiting for the "replacement exhibition" pieces to come before they sell the current piece to their "allocated" customers. But makes me wonder... are there people who really buy Rolex EVERY WEEK? How many customers can a small AD possibly have?
A small AD may have customers that live in nearby cities. For example, I drive two hours to my AD
They are for sale , I bought an exebition model
👍👍. Thanks, I suspected it might be true, in certain cases.
They look so shiny and cool with the tiny super bright overhead lights at the jewelry store but out in the wild they always look like a salesman is wearing them.
I have a submariner and gmt. They’ve lost my custom. I’m not putting up with the BS anymore
If you already have want you want, don’t go back to them. Don’t put up with the hassle. Its enough.
I’ve been wearing a Rolex since 1967 starting off with the GMT. now I’m sick and tired of playing Rolex games, and we can’t get a straight answer out of Rolex.
In the olden days every watch was an exhibition piece bc the display cases were full and you got what ever they had in the case 😂
Yep, but not anymore: there is Exhibition Only; and there is For Sale… Then there is a gray area… in between.
As retailer I would be pissed. All the hoops that you need to jump through and then follow to be able to sell Rolex and then not have any stock with all that waisted space that could be used for other product. What a joke.
There for sale ! I wanted to try on a Pepsi in display case in Cancun .when sales man gave it to me to try it was already sized for a client coming to pick it up 🤷🏽♂️
Rolex is a joke. They can keep their watches.
Yeah, that’s why they are none available in any stores, because no one wants them; they’re such a joke.
You sound vaccinated
They won’t miss you
It's not Rolex that's a joke. It's the Rolex ADs that are an absolute joke. I do wish Rolex did more though to govern the shady distribution practices of these slimy scumbag reps and managers at these ADs.
Don’t worry you’ll get the call someday.
It is true that in Dubai you find more yellow Gold and loads of different sorts of diamonds.
that watches are real for sure ..you can see each watches tell different times ..
So then even the Rolex you are getting from the AD is used. Even more justification for going Gray since even the ADs don’t have new anymore.
Some of the models that's been around for at least 3 years are converted to the Rolex cpo models and sold a market
I totally agree with everything you have said I’ve been with the same AD over 20 years their is no jumping of the queue all though the last nine months I have noticed a huge turn it’s back to how it used to be we still have a 6 to 12 months wait for the special steel pieces somethings are worth waiting for 😉
I would have thought more platinum in the Arab countries as men are not allowed to wear gold.
1 or 2 weeks later? Even if you are not a flipper and really interested in a not so popular steel piece, that call is not coming that fast. Getting a call that fast on a steel piece would be extremely rare in my experience.
MAMACOO's always amazes me how much beauty and precision are added to the parts of watch 99% of people will never see.
nice, good info to listen to. thanks for sharing.
Love this content,👍👍🙏 Mr SC
SS professional still v hard to get, expensive PM less so. Relationship with AD all important. Play the long game.
They are real watches. They can get sold if you have the money to buy.
was propose to buy the display model only if I bought 2 others I didn't want 🤢I went in an other shop and bought a Omega
They are simply for sale.
They get out into a vault at night.
I'd suggest the Zenith Chronomaster Sport as an alternative to the Daytona.
AMZWATCH Stunning watches stunning video you are special i love it keep it up
I bought 3 Rolex watches in the last 6 months from my AD.
Omega speedmaster moon watch the best ever watch.
Gold/Two tones were more for Russian and Asian markets as wearing gold is forbidden for Muslims. With the last plummeting figures reported in Asia and some key markets, plus the current ban on Russia, I wonder where these watches go.
No one cares what watch you wear except you. So as the man says, take your time. Buy what you like. Enjoy life.MAMACOO
They are real
One day i will be able to afford a rolex :)
Until then, #BTC

Dont buy overprice rolex....just buy superclone rolex...hahahaha

Hahaha JK
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on AMZWATCH 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
