I have a Swatch Irony from around 2000, bought it at a discount for around 150 Euro in 2002 at a local jeweller which is a speedy homage in a metal case just without Omega branding. Ok, it is not meant to be serviced, but quartz watches rarely need service. I have a swiss made Dugena Nautica T200 diver with a Ronda quartz movement for over 40 years now.
Extremely pointless. Mov with the dial ended up too deep with the dial gap, cause of the stem hole on the case is too low. He could also hurt himself with this "high failure rate" project. I hope he got paid well for this.
Gotta give props to you for being the first to post the full process in its entirety. I've seen posts/pictures of people doing it but never enough info to act as a guide let alone an entire video of the process. (For context I'm talking about extracting the movement from a REAL moonswatch not the rep, there's already enough info out there for the rep)

Id rather have a beaten up 50 year old genuine speedmaster than this plastic excrescence. Watching you take such professional care in your work is an education. Particularly that you leave in the missteps along the way. Bravo sir, thank you.
Totally agree with you. Also, regarding your comment, i do have a 50 yr old moonwatch. Ironically enough, it cost less than one of these plastic things at the time (
I have a Speedy as well, but I bought the Mission to Saturn when I was in Florence, and I think it's a fun change of pace. I knew what I was buying and they aren't Omegas, but they are just a fun and different homage to the real thing.
When you pulled out the box cutter to remove the crystal I had a flashback to a week ago when I sliced the tip of my index finger to the bone using a box cutter to do something it wasn’t meant to do! I actually got nauseous! Lol
The owner/customer is not always right, and a good service provider will help educate them in a way that makes them think they came to the realisation on their own
For sizing stems in the future, you should use a pair of end nippers or diagonal cutters. Harbor freight sells a set of 6 small precision pliers that includes an end nipper and diagonal cutter. After cutting stem, just use a small piece of sand paper to smooth out the end of stem. Great job on the moon swatch.
Yeah, 99.9% of the time I'm using my special nippers to size stems but since I had the dremel on the bench I thought it would be easier. I was wrong. Lesson learned.
Both are easy to answer: Why would Swatch do this? Because they thought it would be a big hit, and they were right. I have a Moonswatch, and I love it. The fact that it is unservicable is 100% irrelevant and does not matter, at all, to people who buy and love $50 to $200 watches. Truth. For what it's worth, I wanted my friend to use a fake one, it would have been a lot easier. But he's a stickler for detail and authenticity. That said, stay tuned for my next project. See my first sentence for a hint.
Weak argument. The shell, glass and bracelet are third party anyway. So being a “stickler for authenticity” is not so relevant. Essentially you are wearing a genuine Omega / Swatch movement with added third party enhancements. Arguably you can say still a Honda but on steroids. With the mod, it can line up next to a Mercedes and still rise up to the challenge. Nonetheless, aesthetically it looks stunning, the movement is genuine and of value.

One method of removing the crystal would be to just use a suction cup and a bit of mighty bond glue (or any type of adhesive) and just twist it open. That is one method I learned from a local watch repairman when they try to gain access to a swatch
The result looks great !! Maybe an expensive Mod, but that improved look will now be a pleasure to look at for many years to come. Even closer to the 'Omega' part of the family than the 'Swatch', now. Some expense, that's true. but the new case will endure over time, compared to the plastic one. I do like the Omega Speedmaster style, in general. A Pagani Design 1701 is like a ready-made version of the mod...but it has a date window and is only about £90 ($113) all in. You can get one off the Candyland websites for about twelve dollars, too. If you're going to butcher it and "improve" the case, you might as well start with that.
I’ve always had an appreciation for chronographs having been given a Wakmann triple date, Valjoux movement when I was 16, by my father. As for the above operation I can only think the the owner didn’t want to spend the $$$ to purchase a real Speedmaster. I bought my pre-moon 321 Speedmaster in 1967 at the Giessen Germany PX for $94.00 in answer to “Why I didn’t buy a Rolex submariner”… I didn’t have the $125.00 the Rolex was priced at!

Really great work. I do appreciate effort that you put into for your friend. But if he has money for Lamborghini he probably has money for the original Speedmaster.
Fantastic! I'm gonna do one using a better quality VK63 Moon Swatch fake.. Great video. "Bioceramic" is just medical plastic that doesn't give you a nasty rash. Same stuff used in S*x toys. The real skill is in getting folks to pay $300 for a $30 watch!
As a modder and builder myself, I can totally understand and appreciate this build. Well done. Having said that, this just looks like a huge pain in the ass and not really worth the trouble. I think I'd just opt for a Pagani designs and would not do this build.
For your next project you can use the moon swatch case and place a cool movement inside. I’m sure with a little super glue, baking soda and file it could be really cool!
I think you should remove the battery before turning on the dremel. It would certainly be safer, but I'm still impressed that you were able to change the case of this watch without any problems ;)
As an owner of a 3861 master chronograph l found your video very honest and interesting. l was wondering if the dial face could be separated from the movement body
I have the Moonphase in black. I wear it with a black paratrooper elastic nato strap with a red stripe. it looks cool. I would like to buy one of your conversions but with a flat sapphire crystal with a good AR coating. I had a Moon Watch back in 1997 when it was 39mm and could be had for $1,000 USD new, which was about a week and half pay for a recent college grad back then. Today it's $7,000 or 7 weeks pay for essentially the same watch. No thanks.
You didn't explain about resetting the seconds finger to 12 o'clock, has when you 1st got the pushers working the seconds finger was at 3 o'clock 🙏 Very good video by the way 👌
The thing that puzzles me is since it’s quartz which requires a battery but it’s not serviceable means in 2-5 years depending on how often you use the chrono features it’s dead and useless. It should have at least been an automatic like the Blancpain swatch 50 fathoms. 🤔
@@jorgecintron9674 Sorry for the confusion... the battery is serviceable through the small cover that is the planet (or moon) on the back of each watch. It's the movement that is unserviceable. If that ever has an issue your moonswatch is a brick. But the battery can be changed, yes.
Thank you! I’ve seen a couple of videos about this watch and neither ever mentioned that the battery can be replaced. I appreciate that valuable piece of information. Cheers!
You've done a great job! My thought on the original watch - Creating a $300 non repairable watch of plastic is completely unacceptable. Companies should be fined heavily for manufacturing e-waste!
The metal straps are the worst, it seems as if you don't buy the strap and case together it will not work. They don't align the spring bar with the holes in the case so worst case is the spring bar ends will be too far away from the holes or the end links won't fit snug up against the case.
The micro-precision watchmaker tools required for a Moonswatch. A dremel, two screwdrivers and a boxcutter.
Well, you wouldn't expect a mechanic to bring out any real tools when fixing a toy car.

I like the watch!!! I would definitely pay $10 for it!!!
Worked really well. Not that I would spend £300 in the first place.
As an owner of a 3861 master chronograph l found your video very honest and interesting. l was wondering if the dial face could be separated from the movement body
I wondered that too. Would be interesting with a replacement movement.
I had no idea these were quartz movements but upcerd that how cheap these are made
So are there no options when battery goes for these
I have the Moonphase in black. No thanks.
You didn't explain about resetting the seconds finger to 12 o'clock, has when you 1st got the pushers working the seconds finger was at 3 o'clock 🙏
Very good video by the way 👌
The thing that puzzles me is since it’s quartz which requires a battery but it’s not serviceable means in 2-5 years depending on how often you use the chrono features it’s dead and useless.
Cheers!
MAMACOO is a must for me as a watch collector
I would like to buy one! Nice work!👍👍
Very cool mod. I have neither the expertise, gentle touch or equipment to pull it off...but you do, so bravo🫡
You've done a great job!
My thought on the original watch - Creating a $300 non repairable watch of plastic is completely unacceptable. Companies should be fined heavily for manufacturing e-waste!
Great view of the boxes with Juno in them. Nice you told us what you did cause didn’t see half of it!
You should have gone the whole hog and just kept the dial and hands and put a Seagull mechanical chronograph movement in it with a display back
Getting movements to line up with dials is very difficult. Most of the time the holes for the hands are just a millimeter off and won't work.
Congrats. Now your disposable watch is is covered by metal.
Depending how well made the case is sometimes you can just push the pushers back out. If they are sealed and held in by o-rings only.
That was very cool to watch... I enjoyed it very much
Could you provide the link for the metal strap?
The metal straps are the worst, it seems as if you don't buy the strap and case together it will not work. They don't align the spring bar with the holes in the case so worst case is the spring bar ends will be too far away from the holes or the end links won't fit snug up against the case.
Uncle straps has good quality metal bracelets.
Looks awesome with the metal bracelet 🎉
I've just bought a Megalith Quartz Pilot's Watch which looks like a Moon Watch, but it's made of Metal and it's about £30 !
Awesome job, how much do you charge to do that?
I've created an Ebay auction for the service. Search for "moonswatch metal case service", (my ebay name is turbodriven1).
