What's a whiskey you won't rebuy?
Russel's Reserve 10
blanton's
The Duke is rough
High west high country. Way too overpriced for a two year old American Single malt.
The Hirsh horizon was absolutely horrible
Sean’s flip all day. Dan got mad bc it was immediately apparent that Sean’s was crisp as a stiff breeze
Dan still the bottle flip champ 🏆
Mr. Googan, This is the comment!
Got a store pick recommendation at my local store - Dickel of course is huge here in Tennessee - Dickel Tennessee Single Barrel 15 years - it was about $65 and got it for my wife last Mother's day. It is quite excellent - sad when you gotta hear that they are putting out the high priced stuff and it ain't worth it. Great video.
*Both bottle flips had the same rotation*: if you go frame by frame on the hirsch, look at the shadows and account for the momentum of the bottle off screen, you get three flips, flipped from neck and caught on base: the same as you get from the wiseman. Although one flip happens off screen, the straight back and blasé attitude means that i've gotta give this one to Dan.
Dan's Blue Run bottle flip at the cigar pairing during WWB4 was the most impressive flip he's ever done. It was at least 4 full rotations with a base to palm landing.
#truth
Topo chico IS the best mineral water in the game! It’s not even up for debate. Also I’m so glad I’ve managed to avoid all the bottles on this list!
Than you so much guys. I was close to buying that Hirsch bottle. I'll save myself the disappointment now.
Agree fully with the assessment of the Kentucky Owl Wiseman…even at $50 price point a major disappointment considering their previous Rye & Bourbons both sold and tasted much better at the higher price point.
I completely understand your orphan barrel experience. A couple years ago, Barrel bourbon did the same with dickel. Barrel Bourbon made a blend that everyone raved over so they decided to sell single barrels of the Tennessee 12 year old whiskey that was part of the blend. I bought a bottle. After doing some research, I found out that barrel bourbon and my local store essentially sold 12 year old dickel for 80 bucks when I could have bought dickel 14 for 45 bucks at the time. Felt like a huge ripoff. To this day, I won’t touch a barrel bourbon product and very rarely visit that store. They raked me over the coals once but lost quite a bit of repeat business.
The behind the back flip made Sean's life flash before his eyes.
Waiting for that Penelope Architect review from you guys! I have one "on hold" for $55
You'll probably like it. My build 4 is pretty good.
The Ca Caw was spot on! I have an Old Scout 5 yr MGP single barrel store pick that taste's just like you described that Hirsch Horizon. Great episode!
Yeah I have one that tastes like dirt. Upset that I even paid 30 for it lol
I found the Hirsch undrinkable when I first bought it-tasted like vitamins. Went back to it a few times and after many months it opened up from undrinkable to just not very good. I tried all 3 Kirkland/Barton expressions. The SB was like barrels not quite good enough to be 1792 SB. The BIB tasted like Very Old Barton 100. The SiB, though, was great--maybe my store got a honey barrel.
I paid 30% over retail for a Remus VI. It still aggravates me to this day. I would not have payed retail for that bottle had I known it drinks like weak tea.
Now, on a side note, I made a blend of 75/25 Remus/Old Grand Dad 114 and I just LOVE that juice. Ha! Showed you!
Been awhile, happy 2022. Salute
Thanks for this. Not sure if I have seen any of these around where I live. Where do you live? I am in Dubuque, IA and it snowed after easter.
New Into the AM merch? Heck yeah. I loved the last collab.
New one drops April 27th!
Love the videos. What were you guys drinking this episode and what do you think about them for the algorithm gods.
Dan's early times bib bottle flip was the best bottle flip.
It could've been the greatest of all time...
I agree re. Topo Chico. Almost impossible to find in bulk in the Orlando area. Great with tequila and lime!
Never seen Sean drop or break a bottle so i'm going his bottle flips are better. ;-)
Alec Bradley The Badge ashtray! Got the same one in red and love it!
I'll need to revisit my Hirsch, but I didn't have any problems with it and the Cask Strength I tried was fantastic. I wonder if there was a bad batch or two out there?
If so we for sure got one
Try the Hirsch 6-year when you get a chance. It is less a 6-year and closer to 8.
I've got bottles of Copper Tongue and Wiseman and couldn't agree more. I described Wiseman as toe polish remover. Generic toe polish remover, the most offspec acetone you could get away with selling. And I've seen the same St. Cloud store pick and had the same thought as it was the one bottle they also won't provide samples of. Hard pass.
Sean looking up and to the left, just trying to hold it together as Dan is talking about his free balls... Freaking fantastic
I think I remember seeing a video like this from you guys about upcoming allocated releases you won't really be hunting/isn't worth it imo a bit ago. Will yall be doing another one when bourbon hunting season gets closer?
Great review guys u saved us some money. Dan’s flip had more rotations but Sean’s flip had more distance and air time so I’d say Seans was the best!
This will be an unpopular opinion but I think current Elijah Craig barrel proof batches and Sib 8-9-10 yr barrel proof picks are kinda overrated cause the flavors, proof and / or age has dropped compared to the 12 yr ECBP batches from 2020 and prior. Any of the older ones from any year are superior to the current barrel proof stuff. I’m not saying to avoid them, just that they’re somewhat overrated now.
Totally agree on the Copper Tongue...closest thing to a drain pour that I've bought...now I just give it to people who come over to see what they say about this "16 year" bottle. No one likes it as of yet! LOL!
I assume that, when they named the Copper Tongue, they put a penny in their mouth and said, "That's it!" It taste exactly like copper...well named.
“Tell em, Tell em!” Lost it on that. #teamdan
Private pyle. Not hating I still love shaving mine like that too even at 32 yrs old lol.
100% agree on the Hirsch horizon, absolute horsecrap.
With how inexpensive the KS SIB is I don't think it qualifies a don't buy, ya it's not as good as 1792 but it's still a great value IMO.
As for the bottle flips, they were equally ok.
Great video 🍻
How dare you be neutral in the flip off ;P. Cheers buddy!
really surprised to see the Kirkland Bourbon on this list. I've had it, liked it. of course maybe that's cause I've never drank 1792 so don't know what the real stuff tastes like.
If bottle flipping was an Olympic sport, Dan just took home the gold. Respectable silver for Sean.
Probably my favorite comment so far
Only had the Wiseman from a friend’s pour and truly did like it. For $60? Would not have touched it on the shelf. Would have taken any Old Forester product, even 86, over that.
Guys, guys... JTS Brown hits above its belt. Solid and decent for cocktails. I'm at 70+ of odd bottles and love your reviews.
Dan, that cut is cleeeean bro.
I love you for this.
What will I not rebuy? The Wiseman for sure. Also: American Highway Reserve, Ezra Brooks Distiller's Collection, Off Hours.
The St Cloud ranges from really good to really bad. At that price, I want some quality control.
Thank you SIR- May I have another
Can’t help but agree with the hirsch horizon. I was gifted it and hated it, now I can’t even give it away or use it as a mixer.
Great video guys my question for you is the Saint cloud at $50 is it still on this list? I haven’t had it I’m just curious.
P.S. dan’s flips were on point today 😂
If it's $80 it's not on the list lol
@@BourbonJunkies ok good to know. Thanks guys love the show!!
@@BourbonJunkies I sent you a Saint Cloud 100 proof. I bought that at $75 will it be worth it when you try it?
We have to try that on a live still, I was going to Tuesday and forgot
Regarding the St Cloud, I'm never going to buy it (because of your suggestions) BUT.. would you guys consider dumping some out to get past the neck and retry it? (in case it needs to open up like a scotch)
We've had that bottle for like 2 years, it's just undrinkable
Hey Dan……. Do tell… what was that Penelope bottle you were drinking? 😂🥃
You guys are like the Heckle and Jeckle of bourbon reviewers. Couldn't help but being amused...
Do ya have big enough glasses for those pours? 🤣
You both got exactly 2.5 rotations.
I've repeatedly struck out on Jeffersons. Even the small neck glug, glug, glug pisses me off.
ya'll should put some of those wooden spires in those and let them age for awhile and see if they taste better later.
That's a great idea
Nice to see T.J. Miller subbing for Dan on the channel today. He needs the work. 😄 #teamsean #topochicorulz
Good video
Thanks buddy! Cheers!
In the AM link in the description below?
I slowed both flips down to .25 and they were exactly the same number of flips, 2.5...held by the neck and caught by the base.
Love the commitment on the slow motion! The link is in the description for intotheam!
Is that Bone Snapper Rye on your shelf? Huge fan of Backbone/Bone Snapper
I'm so slow to buy anything. I only just purchased and started getting into Redwood Empire. lol
dan's flip indeed was one of the best ever on this channel
Thought there was a glare on my phone. Nope, just Sean reflecting light in an impressive manner.
It's one of his superpowers.
"if you were Scooby but not Doo" ahahahahaha.
What were you guys drinking?
Have you guys tried the Wise Man Rye? It's a wild experience.
Nothing will beat the Kill Bill Eye Pluck that was the Blanton's bottle flip.
I don’t take the risks you guys do, so my “will not re-buy” list mainly consists of bottles below the mid-range that life is too short to waste money on. Such as the highest selling whiskey in America, Jack Daniels Old #7. I’ll buy every bottle of Jack premium square bottle I can find, but not Jack. Or any low-end flavored whiskey. Or any Canadian whiskey. I rarely buy anything over $100 but will if properly motivated. In the mid-range ($40 - $80) you find very few true 💩 bottles with the exception of some craft releases that I’m not going to buy until they prove themselves. I’m not an early adopter with the lone exception of Barrell oddball blends like Dovetail, Armida, and Seagrass, which are more like liqueurs, all of which I have and will repurchase.
Completely understandable outlook on the entire topic! Honestly there's only so much time to enjoy whiskey so drinking good stuff should never have to be defended.
I take a similar approach and just buy tried and true distillery bottles I know I like, preferably bottles from a few years ago, not current bottles.
I just bought the Kirkland yesterday… but it was 18.99 so I don’t feel too bad, it’s going to be the cocktail bottle
Dan looking like Mahomes. Nice no look bottle flip!
Yesssss
Hell of a video. Dan's flip won, although Sean was pretty damn close. Curious, is it all orphan barrel you will steer clear from, or just if you hear it is Dickel sourced? Thanks!
Just dickel sourced, we just got the fabel and folly, but over priced for what it is but still pretty good
IMHO, Kentucky Owl bottles almost always require a 30-70% price adjustment relative to expectations. Confiscated retails for ~$100-110 but can be had for ~$85-90 in L.A. Again - just my opinion but It’s still a $50 bottle at best.
I drain poured my Hirsch!
Idk what happened with it but it's like something went wrong on the bottling line or something.
What do you guys think about the Muckety Muck 26?
thumbnail: bookers, Blanton’s, Weller SR, Barrel
“Oh shit this is gonna be controversial”
video: none of those
click bait city!
ya got me 🤣
Dan looking like the Hair Bear from the Hair Bear Bunch!
That 117 bottle is good
dans bottle flip was the winner on the Hirsch, for sure
my never buy again whiskey is Old Ezra 7 year. Controversial yes, but for the 100 dollar price in NY state, i didn't think it was anywhere near worth it.
close runner up, MIchters Sour mash
Some people love them but I've hated everything I've had from Balcones.
Topo Chico with the squeezed lime slaps as hard as these whiskeys suck.
I got the Hirsch as a gift and I just used it for a mixer. Did not like it neat at all.
What are those glasses you were drinking out of?
Not sure Dan just got them the other day actually
The boys sound like they've been enjoying their bourbon before hitting record this time!
Nope, this was our first and only video of the day! Cheers!
@@BourbonJunkies you guys are the best!
Dang. HIrsh is $28 at my liquor store. I wonder if they're trying to get rid of them.
I need Dan to change wigs for every bottle.
That Penelope Architect is so damn good
I love it
@@BourbonJunkies pouring a glass tonight. Look forward to the review 🤙🏻
u 2 just saved me a sh*tload of cash . . . and now, u have 6 bots to marinate your briskets and beef !
the first time tasting Maker's 46 it was Horrible, it tasted like it was distilled&barreled in plastic but the next time I tried it, at a tasting it was good, bad bottles are a thing
I picked up a bottle of Bower Hill special edition, sherry cask finished. I can't stand it. I was so excited to try it. My first pour I was really let down. Decided to let it sit for a week and try again. I've gone back to this bottle 4 times. Never again. It's terrible.
Damn, I'm sorry to hear that.
Classic Laddie 6x - that's the list.
Does bad whiskey make your hair curly abd multicolored?
Nice
Sweet last name!
Chestnut farms. It’s Buffalo trace in an EH Taylor bottle with a different label and sold at double the price of Buffalo trace. Total Wine associates tell you it’s a ghost distillery that sazarac uses to sell pappy under a different name. Won’t buy that again. And now I will only buy things from total wine if they are the lowest price in the market.
One stands out for me and that's Weller SR. Drove from Syracuse NY to Cleveland Ohio and picked up a Case. Still choking down the last 3 bottles. Good news is we also got a case of WA 107 so it kinda worked out. WSR is just hot garbage not even worth the $25 per bottle.
how large is that glass?
Very, Dan had a solid 2oz more than me
What glasses are they using
Check out Megamind villains memes and look for Hal - tell that’s not Dan 😂
Dang what were you guys drinking?
Longhorn Straight Texas Rye Whiskey.
It tasted like a "Grass fed beef" But in whiskey form. It was gross and tasted like it was made with hay. lol
Booker's is like $250 in Korea...it's crazy
What were you drinking?
he definitely snorted that Penelope in the very beginning. been a victim of that face before.
I'll add Chattanooga Scotch Cask.....
Love the rest, especially the BiB....but this is a drain pour.
Oh schmutz! I just bought that today. Here's hoping our palates are different.
I like that whiskey a lot but I do enjoy islay scotch.
@@BourbonJunkies the Offerman Lagavulin is really good.
Sean for the flip all day.
That Square 6 was foul. Can't believe how bad it is. The Evan Williams Experience is not a good experience
Penelope Architect just wasn't my jam. I didn't think it was flawed or anything, just didn't do it for me.
That happens for me with some mashbills too. I respect it and understand why people like it, just not my thing. I happen to have fallen in love with Architect.
