The moss moving by itself at 17:25 👀
Um ew wtf!!!! Why’d it move like that?!
Can u please do an alocasia video?
Welp... that is creepy! I watched it at least 10x and another handful of times on decreased playback speed, and cannot come up with any logical explanation other than alien worms.
😂😂
Lol…she tucks it in at 17:15 and it pops back out 😂😂
I was a little freaked out trying to figure it out, then I went back further to rewatch…😂
My albo is 7 ft tall with 27 highly varigated leaves. She was only a foot tall with three leaves 2 years ago. I air layered the top 4 leaves a few months ago and was extremely happy with the results. I now have a gorgeous 6 leaf top cut (She unfurled 2 leaves while propping) and my mother plant has 3 new leaves from the growth point which was activated when I cut. It's now taller than before I cut the top!. I highly recommend air layering rarer plants as there is no danger of rot or danger to the mother plant. You don't cut until you have a nice group of roots.
Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but what is air layering?
@@Jess_Smith0903 Hey Jess, what air layering basically is : you cover the parts of the plant where an aerial root exists with some sphagnum moss and plastc wrap so you can trap some of the moisture around it. You then go ahead and spray it with some water (not too much, just keep it damp so it does't promote rot) until you can see that aerial root grow and get larger. You can then unwrap it and cut that section of the plant off. That way you first develop roots on a cutting before it is actually cut (I hope that makes sense!) and you minimize the risks of having cut your plant and then losing the cutting.
P.S: You shouldn't apologise for not knowing something, we all have to start at some point! 😊
@@ThePlantasticNerd ohhh I’ve seen people doing that on TikTok! I didn’t know that’s what it’s called! Thanks for taking the time to explain it!
My version is putting the aerial roots in water. That way I don't have to keep moistening the moss and I can also add plant food to the water. What I noticed too was that the shorter roots that can't reach the cup of water yet, grow fast, as if sensing where the water supply is and is a hurry to reach it. 😄
Omg do you sell them??
One thing I don't think was mentioned in this video is that you want to look at the auxillary bud - it's a little circular spot on the node that has the promise of growth, so it will be a little more swollen and you should be able to find it. This is the point at which you want to judge the variegation. If there is a good amount of both white and green through the auxillary bud then you should get a similar ratio of white and green in your plant. If it's significantly more white than green, then you will probably have a much whiter leaf grow from it - this isn't a really bad thing, but it can mean that in the future you get all white growth. If you're a beginner you definitely want more even ratio of colour running through the auxillary bud. If there's significantly more green than white then you will still have a great plant, but it will probably have less white variegation on the plant it produces.
This can be a really helpful way of judging the level of variegation when buying a cutting. Hope this helps someone :)
This isn't well known info! I think this is more something experts know to look for tbh. I didn't even know to look for this for the first several years that I grew monstera
Exactly! thats why the one propagted turned out green
What do you look for if you have a top cut?
@@emmajaggi7207the top cut will continue to grow from the top 😊
One other tip, I’d like to share, practice with regular Monstera to perfect your technique. They are very hearty and inexpensive. For me, they gave me the confidence for Albos.
How do you propagate?
Thank you Harli, seriously! I have been wanting to cut mine for so long but I haven't found a video to make me feel ballsy to do it. I mean it's self explanatory to propagate but you gave me more ease. I think I'm ready to do it!
😅
This video was SO helpful! I have been trying to root an albo cutting hubby bought me in NOVEMBER 2021, and the leaf started dying. Was SO worried, but just checked it again the other day, and it's FINALLY starting to root!! Just about passed out with excitement and relief! Absolutely can't wait until it's pushing out new baby leaves 😭❤
NONE of this is self explanatory all of the “over explanation” is what made me subscribe thank you so much as a new plant mom this has been super helpful🎉🎉
I have 5 cuttings on the way. So here I am down the rabbit hole of monstera research so I can care for my new babies best. THIS VIDEO is exactly what I needed to see!! 😅😊thank you for being so detailed on how to care for the roots and to pack them loosely in their new pot. Thank you
I don’t know if somebody already said it, but the humidity and temperature sensor she is showing is called acu>rite
Not too basic of information! This is gold for m. Thank you!
As always, Harli, you bring a smile to my face with your humor. I love listening to you explain things. I bought a wet stick albo last year. It was pretty expensive and had no leaves. I took a risk and cut the wet stick in two hopefully to ensure one of the two would produce for me. The first one did successfully and I thought the second part was never going to produce but didn't give up. They both did and now they are potted up together and both are variegated so I am beyond excited. I agree if you can get an albo with a leaf. Thanks Harli!
This was so helpful! I need to cut up my basic monstera but I’ve been so nervous about it. Thanks for all the tips Harli!! Love your videos!
Thank you so much! This video helped me after my husband bought me an albo cutting, it didn't grow for months and it finally pushed out a leaf!
Thank you! I have 6 cuttings that were given to me and I have no idea what I’m doing! I do just buy my plants rooted and ready to go but this definitely helped me figure out how to care for all these cuttings!! Fingers crossed.
Your lecturers are so informative and interesting I love watching you.
Love this type of video, Harli! I ended up air layering my albo on the nodes that didn’t have longer aerial roots and it worked great!
Omg I just googled how to fix my baby🌱 The timing was perfect!!! 💚
Came here exactly because I started seeing some root rot on my node cuttings while trying to propagate them in water. Although I don’t have a lot of stem to play with, I will cut the rotten bit off, follow your advice and hopefully they will survive. Thanks a lot for the video! 🙏🏼
Thanks so much for this video 😍❤️ I have an albo cutting coming in a few days so it was really helpful! Mine will come with a half moon cutting and a long aerial root so I’m hopeful that it might work 💚
The callous over bit so so helpful! ☮️☮️☮️
It was a very thorough video! Gives me courage to try it myself! Thank you 😊
So jealous of all of those beautiful albos. One day I will have one. I honestly have never even seen one in person. Definitely the plant on too of my wish list.
I wish I could get rare plants here in Greenland but it is so dry here and pretty sure it wouldn’t survive the travel. I love your videos and you inspire me so much 🤩
I have rescued my albo from rot by changing it from Moss to Water, now mine is doing amazing!
Howw??
Not into monsteras, but always love a Harli video! :)
Great video 💚 Currently air layering my variegated Monstera…fingers crossed 🤞
Me too!! Are you using just moss? I just set it up yesterday, wondering if I should have added perlite also...
@@lilypad431 I added a good amount of pumice with the sphagnum moss. I have used perlite with sphagnum moss too for other air layering props. It definitely helps. Started it March 12 and I can see roots now!
"I can't remember anything I said" 🥰 I'm here for that relatable-ness.
I’m a novice and I’ve only propagated in water. Love doing in a vase so I can watch the roots grow.
I bought a two leaf cutting that has a SUPER long arial root and was told to put the end of the arial root in water and have the cutting (node) stick outside of the water. I’ve had it for about 2 weeks and nothing it happening. I am worried about it and wondering if I should cut the arial root and make it shorter. But I’m having a hard time finding info online.
@@tkuhel12 I would trim aerial root back to about 4 inches. I put the node in the water.
That's the smallest albo I have ever seen it's so cute!!
i’ve been practicing propagating with my moms pothos and the first round one leaf cutting started to rot in water so i cut the leaf and placed the stick in moss ( i started watching your prop moss videos ) and it started rooting! i’m going to prop a ficus that grows outside my kitchen window so fingers cross ( using your perlite/moss method )
LOVE your videos! And your plant collection is fabulous, so clearly you know what you’re doing❤
Such a helpful video! I just cut up my entire albo that i grew from a mid cutting that i got 2 years ago. The old leaf from the cutting is still alive and hopefully will become a new plant once again 😁 excited but a little bit scared. This video helped to calm my nerves
Thank you!! I missed this video someone and recently acquired a cutting with areal root but small stem portion…so hoping for the best!!
Thank you for the video. I just bought a beautiful 5 leaf plant I think with decent sized leaves and variegation for $150 😱 such a steal but the lady said she didn't have room for it and wanted it moved. I also had to drive a ways but it was such a good deal. Wanting to propagate since there's so many arial roots and growth points to choose from
\You did a great job, explaining. I'm a cutter too! But live in a Tiny House on Wheels with nearly 40 plants in it! Yicks
basic info is good! one of the best videos
I ordered a single leaf cutting off etsy and it arrived with the leaf cut off, which is exponentially bad for the cutting. "chonks" or leafless nodes have to rely on the energy stored inside their stem in order to make an entirely new leaf. Sadly, mine rotted steadily so it's best to rely on AT LEAST one leaf.
I hope you got a refund for that as even cuttings are crazy expensive!!
Leafless nodes can’t really process the water through transpiration, having no leaves, right? Would go along with your experience of them being more sensitive to overwatering I would think. Cool video, enjoyed as always!
That's a great point!
They can’t make energy as well because the leaves and chlorophyll are key to photosynthesis.
I loved “the owner of this channel” heck yes it’s Harli’s world do you. Perfect timing, I’m trying to work up the courage to chop my albo. Did some layering cuz I’m scared.
Thanks for info. Very helpful. 💚🌱🪴🌿💚
Thanks so much for that tutorial. I just bought a cutting and it's not rooting in the water so this info is incredibly helpful
Don’t give up if you have not already. It can take a long time and results are much better in the spring time.
She knocked the shelf
Your skin always looks so amazing! Appreciate the instructions with the albo...I recently brought an expensive cutting and I am not sure it has a node 😳 now it's arrived ... hopefully it has and then I know what to do keep it alive and later when it's older
thank you harli....i will try using spagnumoss....will update how it goes
Thank u for all the info. This really helps. Thank u😊
Great information
I know all conditions are different but approximately how long does it take to push out a new growth point?
I have a well rooted bottom cutting and I’m so impatient 😅
Great video as always! Thank you!
I bought a $70 node without any leaves or roots 😬 ....roted in 3 days 🖤
I root all my Monstera Variegata in water and never had a problem with it 😅 But Sweden has very good water. We always our tap water so I think it depends on what kind of water you have. I sold 15 cuttings of my big MV some weeks ago. I´m happy I did because I already have 3 here at home and don´t have space for more 😅
Hi! How long did it take yours to root in water?
@@kelsdunc8191 I use Clonex Mist so it takes about 1 months before I plant my cuttings but I want the roots to be long.
Great video, great advice. Thank you
Great vid. Great hair. Thanks for the info. Will be giving it a go so wish me luck. Have a lovely day.
Amazing video thanks for sharing just got one eventually I’ll prop her amazing
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I've got an albos that hasn't done anything yet, propagating in moss under a grow light but so far almost a month and no roots(my cutting didn't have any roots only nodes) I think I'm going to transfer mine to a propagation box I made from a different video of yours.
Recently found a love for plants and your channel! Saw a previous propagation video where you potted all cuttings into clear cups and put them in a bin. Any reason you didn't use clear cups, didn't use a bin? Thanks for the great videos!
These cuttings are just too big for bins, but you can absolutely do that & itll work
Space between nodes are internodes :)
Thank you!
you can dip cut ends in melted candle to seal cuts to prevent less rotting
You are amazing! Everything looks very nice.
Have you tried putting the aerial roots in water and letting them grow more roots before getting cut off of the mother plant? It's much faster and low risk, I find. It takes a month until it's ready to be separated.
I bought a fairly cheap albo cutting (it has very small white on the leaf) but the node does look white/green, it’s well rooted and it has a good growth point! Hopefully I’ll get some variegated leaves 🤍 also they have it to me in water, should I change it to moss? Thanks a lot!
off topic but your hair is amazing
Are you okay? 😂 Sorry, that second half I'm not sure you took a breath on purpose. I'm just thinking damn girl, take a big breath. 😅
I'm so thankful for your content either way and wish you all the best. ❤
Would love to see an update on your albos!
Hello Harli! I was devastated to find root rot was over coming my Ricardo (aka albo) 😢😢 I have followed your exact method. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes…it’s chopped tucked in moss. I’ll keep a plant light on it but it’s staying inside. I have an 8x10 grow tent but it’s my 1st winter with it & it’s in my detached/unheated garage so I don’t quite trust it through the KS winter yet 🥶🥶
Thks for the video! Awesome! What about the mother plant? Does it survive? Will it grow where it was cut? Thksss
My plant has 5 happy leaves, but I'm really wanting to hack it up and start new little guys so I can have a really full pot of monstera. Is it too soon to take cuttings? Will the original plant grow from a new spot?
I have a monstera plant I’ve been wanting to chop and I’m so afraid to! It’s put out a couple very lightly variegated leaves so I think I’m gonna do it with those to also try and encourage better variegation on the main momma plant again. We shall see!
One of those nodes I showed is the one I’m sending you! Sorry I didn’t get it out last week, but it’ll for sure go out this week
I bought a one leaf, rooted Albo a few months ago. When can I start to expect a new growth point to put out a leaf? Fingers crossed it’s soon, I’m so impatient. 🤞🏻😅
Maybe this is the sign I needed to chop and prop my long boy albo. I have dreams of a giant bushy albo with like 4 vines in one pot.
Also, go easy on yourself because forgetting to turn on a mic sounds exactly like something I would do, and I don’t have 2 little ones 😆
Love this type of video!
When you pot them in soil do you bury the stem part?
I can't wait to try!!
Hey plant sister! I love your channel and am a subscriber (of course) I have been collecting plants for a while now and the albo has been mu dream plant for so long but I just can never afford them. I am a nursing student and mother of 7/sole provider. BUT, I still enjoy living vicariously through you. Jealous but here. I am curious about this, when using the grow tent with the grow lights, how many hours a day has shown to be effective in this method of propagation? I have used all methods for my monsteras but I do know that with a variegated breed, light has everything to do with it. I would appreciate you if you could answer this. I am trying to prop some wet sticks and cuttings off of my babies now and it would help me in a huge way!
Perfect video😘😘
I'm your new suscriber, got impressed with your illustration. Wonder you
sell live cutting or already rooted monstera albo, etc. Thank you.
You.
What humidity do you keep your albos at? When I had mine in +70% humidity, I experienced browning on the white parts of the leaves. I thought it was root rot but when I checked, everything looked healthy so I moved it out of the cabinet to room humidity and it’s been fine ever since
I’m no expert, but in my experience, the browning on leaves can be due to inconsistent watering. I struggle with it often.
I agree with that you need one leafs is the best
Since the whole family ( Hubby, parents & kids) are followers & HUGE FANS… You can at least help my 9 yo with his Gardenia !!! He started taking care of his gardenia beginning this Spring 2022. He paid for it with his own allowance & he has been trying hopelessly to take care of it…BUT… Gardenias are very finicky and I am NOT SURE how I can help him!!! I am hoping you can help with few words PLEASE on how to take care of it through out the seasons. Now; it’s NOT blooming any flowers even though it has several but they are not flourishing yet…Moreover, it has lots of yellow leaves and it’s growing upwards like crazy… He loves it & he always talk to it…!!! Can you please help ?!?!?!?!…keep up the great work ❤️👍🙏
Hey! I’d love to help. I just need more info. How frequently os it being watered? What kind of light does it get? Is it inside or outside?
I want to see the growth on the original plants. Does it just push new growth from where it got chopped?
albo 😊
Hi Harli! How do you keep pest at bay with such a large amount of plants in your tent. I have a smaller greenhouse I still occasionally find some pest 🤦🏻♀️😭 do you use any specific insecticide? Please share thank you 😘🌿
i use mosquito dunks when i water and food grade diatomaceous earth is very effective and inexpensive
Hey! What time of the year should I propagate? I was thinking of doing it now but it’s November. Do you recommend I want until Spring?
Hey! Your top leaf cutting had a cutting with two leaves on it. Mine will have three, with two long arial roots. Would that be ok or should I trim off a leaf? It’ll be my first time propogating from my large albo 😬🌱 love your channel. Watching from New Zealand 🇳🇿👏👏👏👏👏
Do you sell cuttings?
Hi, I loved your video, I was wondering, I want to propogate Monstera Albo in a tent and was wondering about lighting? How much light do you use? Do you use full spectrum LED lighting? I was thinking 500 watt full spectrum LED? Also, do you ventilate the tent?
Hi!! This video is super helpful!! I have a cutting that I’ve been trying to root for about a month. I started by just putting the aerial root (it’s super long) in stratum, but must’ve wet the stratum too much because I noticed the tip of the aerial root getting dark and squishy. So, I cut off the squishy part and put it straight in water instead. It’s been in water for a week or two now, but still no changes… Do you think I should move it into spagnum? Or would that make it go into shock at this point?? Thank you for any advice/help! 🥹
Do you grow nepenthes? I'm used to caring for them and not monstera, but they use the same medium, and can be bottom watered 🤔
Hey! What time of the year should I propagate? I was thinking of doing it now but it’s November. Do you recommend I want until Spring? 3:31
Do you have problems with the white part of the leaf going brown?
My albo has finally rooted! I just don’t know when best to pot it up?
Harli had you ever propagate lipstick black pagoda from seeds? I’m trying to right now and I’m so scared to lose them all 🫣. I put the little tiny seeds over a wet paper towel in a bowl with a hole in its lid in my south garden window and after three weeks I can see some green súper little tiny leaves 🍃 !!!!! Now I’m scared because I have no idea of what’s next 🥴😅 . Let me know any suggestion.
Wanda, you can also propagate your Lipstick plant from cuttings.
@@diannenaworensky6698 yeah I know ! But I just want to try because my plant had two big pod of seeds 😃 and some of them started floating out 😍. Let’s see! So far they looks good 🤞.
My wet stick has a good root system and grown three baby leaves. When you move it from moss to soil do you bury it the same way you did in moss? Meaning keeping the base of the plant slightly above the soil?
How often do you water them when it's in the moss?
Great video, did you let it callus for one hour? I read online to leave it between 48: 72 hours, what is the tell sign?
Do you sell your propagated plants
Long time ago, I paid $80 for a node. I watched it rot away. I only buy rooted plants now.
I’ve lost so much money buying Albo nodes I should have just bought a rooted plant at this point. Lol
What happens to the mother plant I can’t find anything on UA-cam about it, does it re grow does it get smaller leaves , we definitely need the info x
So long as you leave an axillary bud, it’ll grow back just like the cuttings!
Do you have any info for a top cut with no Ariel roots at all?! I like Spagmoss so should i just continue with the Spagmoss?
Hi, do you need to moist the moss all the time all not moist at all please let me know
I have a leaf/node with an aerial root in water. Even have an air stone in there. Hasn’t done anything in weeks. It’s scary, but moving it scares me too. 🤷🏻♀️😕
do you still have a plant shoppe?
