Author of the mod here. Thank you for featuring it! The plan is to add a few more maps as soon as I get time, maybe eventually another episode. Also thanks for pointing out the things you didn't like. I'm keeping a list of feedback that I'll be attempting to address as well. And as other commenters have already pointed out, yep, that's a Lewis variant.
Good job! I love how interactive some of the level design is, as well as that dusk map. Maybe Icarus will do a sequel when you release the next level! Oh yeah: Han Solo gun at 13:44! As a point of reference, I would watch Decino's playthrough of *TNT: Revilution.* The 1st and 2nd episodes have a lot of fantastic map design. Maps that are relatively small, but constantly cross over different paths to make them feel bigger. If there is any criticism I would have is to not make a level _too_ big where it turns into a slog. That is one of the things I really love about *TNT: Revilution* is that the original *TNT: Evilution* WAD pack had some maps that were a bit too long. Like Tony Stark, they learned from their mistakes.
So I got the mod, but when I try to launch it, it just plays DooM 2 vanilla. I dont understand what Im doing wrong, help would be greatly appreciated! I have the latest version of GZDoom.
@@DooMedSean If you've copied the Doom2.wad into GZDoom's root folder, and unzipped the zip, you should just be able to drag and drop the mod's pk3 onto the GZDoom exe to run it.
Unfortunately, a sword made of pure obsidian would break after one solid swing. Contrary to what Minecraft teaches people, black glass isn't very durable.
@@asialsky That's why it's not 100% black glass- if I recally correctly the shards of aforementioned material were embedded in a wooden paddle, and I think they often had to be replaced?
4:20 this is a Macuahuitl, an Aztec Sword/Club that has obsidian shards acting as the blade. A really nasty weapon deliberately designed to maim as the Aztecs were very much into human sacrifice! Yeah! Right upto the 1520s
Such savage weaponry... and they were STILL wiped out by Hernan Cortes and his conquistadors. Even an obsidian chainsaw is no match for matchlock rifles.

This feels like the lovechild between Indiana Jones and the Egyptian bonus chapter and the catacomb levels from RtCW in the DooM engine; loving the idea and style.
That "paddle" is called Macuahuitl, a sword like maze with pieces of Obsidian that cut like a sharp scalpel. It was used by the aztecs, the mexicas, tlaxcaltecas and others. When You hit someone with that not only the cut would tear off the body part, but the Obsidian Blades Will sharpnel and stick inside the victim causing more damage.
We are finally getting the Indiana Jones FPS game we always dreamed of. Let keep those rowdy Uncharted fans off the game we deserve. Rare W for Microsoft.
I like that they went the full TC route even for such a short wad. I briefly saw some footage a few days ago but wasn't sold on it until this review. Thanks Icarus! As if I didn't have enough wads to catch up on already...
The khopesh is an awesome weapon, and is my favorite historical sword. The outer curve is sharp for slashing attacks, the inner curve is dull to be used to trip foes. It was perfect for the Pharaoh's guards to kill or restrain assassins without having to swap weapons.
I was expecting the gimmick to be that you do actual archeology in this wad. Getting the paperwork done, specialising in a specific historical period, dealing with corrupt government officials and religious zealots who want to destroy what you're trying to dig up, stopping the whole world around you to scoop up a broken plate from ancient Mycenae...
Now I have this idea of a game just handing you paperwork you can fill out while plot discussion happens in the background. Player character even just verbally giving you what some bit should be filled in with when the conversation reaches a point.
The spritework in this mod is genueinly impressive, but I feel like some of the leftover stuff from original doom like the hud elements and some item sprites clash with the overall aestethics. Fixing that would make this mod stand out even more.
13:15, that is indeed a lewis gun, specifically a lewis gun without the air jacket which is meant for hair cooling but that fat pan mag and the lack of a jacket is an indication this is taken off an aircraft. The Air jacket is not a permanent part to the lewis gun but an additional component to help prolong use. The one gun however in this whole thing is the lever action shotgun which does not make sense (I know its a doom mod but eh) because using lever action shotgun means all teh shells are using black powder. (I am assuming these are like after market shells or they are all 10 gauges assuming smokeless powder, but hey, its still nice to see the leveraction as a primary and not getting over shadowed.) And the Jezzail seems to be a muzzle loader, no idea why the Jezzail that uses brass cartridge wasn't used, though it shoots magic so I am gonna assume its near onpar to the other weapons so nevermind.
Actually, the Lewis Gun's "girth" is due to the barrel jacket. It functions surprisingly fine without it, to the chagrin of WW1 vets who had to lug the thing around with the barrel jacket. It's more associated with the British Home Guard in that particular configuration, however. It could also be a Vickers K MG. Either way, British MGs are British MGs.
I would say that since it's a video game, any inconsistencies in the weapons can just be ignored. If he says it's a Lewis gun despite the drum looking a bit too thick and not having a large enough diameter, I'd say go with it. I agree with the changes you suggested and would add another, a spider enemy in the Meso-America temple, maybe even in the pyramid as well. Could have a vicious looking tarantula type for the former and one of those sand spiders for the latter.
When Ramses the Second destroyed Syria, that was an accident.... The Mummy and The Mummy Returns are a lot of fun and well worth your time. Like this mod.
the Macuahuitl is actually closer to a sword than a paddle, given the obsidian blades wedged into the sides of the club for cutting purposes. because Obsidian is so sharp, it actually cuts REALLY good, even if the material is VERY hard to work with. ... you do totally bap those skulls with the blunt end of it though, so I get where you'd call it a paddle.
11:17 Although IRL the Vampir was mounted onto the STG-44... Also the thing weighs five pounds and required a battery pack that weighed 30 pounds with a combined weight of 33 pounds, in metric the scope was 2.25 kilograms and the pack was 13.5 kilograms and the whole unit was 15 kilograms.

Frankly, I just want the guy to make a campaign with maximum Medal of Honor energy once he's done with Venturous.

why even bother putting the blast shield on the panzerschreck at that point? it's supposed to keep the rocket blast out of your face which it cannot do if it is on the *opposite side of the tube* from where your face is and the "girth of the barrel" is mainly cooling fins surrounded by a shell to force air through it when it recoils, so the actual barrel doesn't melt during sustained fire. aircraft mounted ones would have all that stuff removed since the movement of air in flight does cooling pretty well.
