- Today we capture the delivery of Alco diesel 704 to SteamRanger Heritage Railway, along with the placement of 845 on to its bogies. A fantastic achievement by the team at SHR and congratulations go to all those involved.
SteamRanger are a heritage railway group based out of Mount Barker that operate broad gauge trains between Mount Barker and Victor Harbor.

G'day Kane. Without a doubt, my favourite loco is the 900 class streamliner, number 958 of the steam ranger heritage railway. Painted in SAR green and gold.
958 is an Alco powered 930 class. The 900's were English Electric built and powered.
Great vid! Last time I saw a move like this was the old red hens going down grand junction to be scrapped at sims!
Thankfully, this is a happier video, glad you enjoyed :)
Great film. Hard to choose a favourite loco and love how well you've narrated the video..
Cheers king! 🙏
Great video Kane!! With the imminent arrival of Alco 703 at the NRM soon, and the high likelihood that I won't be there to see it happen, this was a perfect addition to my daily UA-cam feed...and it was in the top spot too! Hope you'll be on hand to film 703's arrival.
Thank you Steve! If anyone tells me when it’s due to be delivered, I’ll definitely try to be there :)
I'll see what I can find out and let you know
Great to see the old Alcos being saved
Definitely, plenty of them at SteamRanger and soon enough around SA too!
My favourite loco would be 621.
Great choice!
Nice video.
I might take a visit to Steamranger if my trip to Adelaide happens.
Hope it happens mate, SteamRanger are a must!
I think 350 needs a nice new paint job as a reward for being a very useful engine.
Couldn’t agree more mate, I imagine that will happen once a spare shunter for barker exists.
Very cool behind the scenes and action footage mate. My favourite restored loco is, NM 25
NM25 is a fantastic little engine!
Was a hell of a wait but well worth it in the end!
Exactly! Luckily the weather remained not too horrible 😅
Great coverage
Cheers mate, probably 90 minutes of footage was cut down to this!
loved the video! my favourite restored loco just has to be 621. It is an amazing loco and it sounds so good
Thanks so much. Out of curiosity, do you prefer it in black or green?
@@KanesTrains I remember when it got painted black I wished they kept it green but now I prefer it black.
Great video my favorite loco is T186.
Love me some narrow gauge SAR too!
my fav engine is Victorian railways engine D3 639 which is preserved by steamrail
i saw the loco alot at Islington.
Such a long time ago now 😎
Poor old 350 she needs a paint job maybe once they get one of the 830's running the old girl might finially get a rest and a bit of paint.
That’s what I’ve heard. Once a capable replacement shunter for 350 is in action, she’ll be getting a good go over.
Rx 93
The funny side it is the government going to electric these train lines for when the 4000 classes retire
3801
Cool loco that!
When will they run 704
I imagine in the next couple of years, there are many factors that impact it such as time, money and priority.
@@KanesTrains ok
why cant they be operational, maybe for special services ?
The 700? The plan is for it to run in the future 😎
i mean tours on mainlines for example to port pirie or tailem bend
@@VoyagersType 704 is currently on broad gauge bogies.....not possible to run it on the main line without changing to standard gauge bogies.
