    If you have a "rough" yard or need to cut short brush, the lawnmower shroud collects debris and evantually causes the belt to slip. Be sure to check for debris between the deck and shroud before deciding to replace the belt. Couple of other things... You do not need to remove that shroud to replace the belt as long as you can guide the belt through the opening, which will be almost always. ALso, be VERY careful when disconnecting the tension spring for the clutch to make sure that the little S shaped hook holding the spring to the lawnmower does not fall out. It is very hard to reinstall with the clutch and axle in place.

    I had an issue with the self propel last year. Went through the majority of this process and now know all I did wrong. Ha! Ended up having debris stuck and had to pay to have that sorted. I'm still mad I couldn't repair that issues. Next time I will now that I've found you. Thanks!

    Pretty straightforward. I’ve removed that shroud a few times for end-of-season maintenance, not that big of a deal after you’ve done it a few times. Well done, thanks! 👍👍

      LOL, you got this Jacob. Whenever I first acquire a new/used mower I always apply anti-seize grease to the blade adapter and or crank shaft. I sometimes use a very LIGHT DUTY! cordless auto/air hammer to vibrate the adapter loose. PRO TIP: Apply heat or torch to help loosen rusted or seize parts, also try soaking rust penetrant overnight and remove rust with wire brush or sandpaper once free.

I don't even have the initial 5 hours on it yet and the smart drive stopped working. The belt seems way to loose but not broken and the cable looks ok still. Any thoughts before i call the warranty department? I'm not working on a brand new 600 dollar mower. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    • @kevinbrown3744
      @kevinbrown3744 3 дні тому

      You may just need to adjust the drive cable. Mine loosened because the lock nut had come loose. It is an older mower, but it could be the breakin on the unit caused yours to come loose some or it may just need tightening as the belts may stretch. Just my guesses...

    I have the same model and recently the self propel control got very stiff, it actually propels but very soon smoke starts coming from the back left handside. Is it related to drive belt? My mower is just one year old and still under warranty, would rather take care of it myself than take it to a service center.

    • @dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982
      @dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982  Рік тому

      Does it continue to smoke after reaching operating temperature? or does it briefly blow smoke? A small "puff" of smoke out of the exhaust is normal. I would double check the oil level first it and adjust accordingly till the oil level is reading between the full line and the low line on the dipstick. Remember do not screw the oil dipstick all the way in when checking the oil level.

      As far as the smart drive being very stiff clean under the deck and make sure there's not excessive amount of grass build up around the transmission area, if underneath the deck is clean then refer to the owner's manual about adjusting the smart drive cable.

      @@dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982 Smoke seems to be coming from where the transmission is, I got scared and shut the engine off and didn't wait till the operating temp is reached. Also it only comes out when I use the smart drive. If the engine is just running without being propelled no smoke.
