    Thought I had an issue with my belt, until your vid made me look at why I could not spin my belt that should have no resistance. A piece of wood chip was caught into the motor pulley.
    Thanks.
    Thought I was going to have to replace a newish mowers belt, started to remove the housing. Again, thank you.

      Thank you Mr Steve! It’s crazy that mower has been out since 2020, and only in the last few months have any parts diagrams gone live. I ranted about that in my video, but it wound up on the cutting room floor. I honestly wrestled with that baffle and blade adapter and decided it wasn’t worth the trouble. Thanks for your support, Cheers! 🥂

    My drive belt started slipping yesterday. This helps so much because I couldn’t figure out how to get it out. And, even with a pulley puller that adapter doesn’t want to come off.

    Great video. It was extremely useful when I was trying to figure out why the self-propelled system stopped working on a two year old Honda HRN216VKCA (Canada model). Following your procedure I discovered a 0,6 cm (1/4 inch) diameter branch wedged between the guide plate and the belt. Once the wood debris removed and the reinstall completed, the mower is again up and running. Your video gave me the knowledge (and courage) to tackle this job. BTW the blade and holder bolts on my mower are 9/16, not 14 mm. Take care.

  • @The911nut

    Thanks LL, sure saved me time and money. My belt only lasted one season on the HRN, seemed to be made of recycled cloth. The pulley nut is 14 mm and not 13 mm. Could not have done it without your video.

    I just got an Ego cordless, battery-powered self-propelled mower to eliminate gas engine maintenance. I'm 70-years-old now, and feeling it. So, I cleaned up the Honda to make it shine for photos on Internet selling sites. Then I started it and pushed the thumb-buttons, and NOTHING! No warning. Just suddenly no transmission. I think it's the belt, or at least I hope so, so thanks for your video. Hopefully, I can sell it for a good amount once I've fixed the problem. Shouldn't be a problem selling a lightly-used, 3-year-old Honda in very good shape. 👍

    Great video, but there was one thing that I had to do differently. The most difficult part of the belt change for me was dealing with the fact that there was no way my hands would fit in there to remove/reconnect the cable, and more importantly the spring. The bracket holding the spring fell out while it was hanging loose, which seems like something that would happen to most people. And there is no way in the world I could get my fingers in there much less my hand to reinsert the backet. For a quick job, I spent 80% of the time trying to find a way to reconnect the spring and the cable without being able to reach either with my hands. But, when I removed the rotating liner, which you suggested not to do, I was able to reach through and access both easily. So for someone like myself with large hands, I most definitely recommend removing that as part of your process.

    • @TheLawnmowerLady
      @TheLawnmowerLady  Рік тому

      Glad it worked out for you. When I did this repair, obviously that bracket didn't fall out on me, I didn't even realize it was a problem until some others asked about it. Quick look at parts diagram let me to where it should go. Maybe the tension on the cable was enough to not fall out? Thanks for watching.

    This is the only video that shows how to properly change a belt on this new model. I just got mine on and it works perfectly. There was a rock lodged in the pulley digging a groove.
    To adjust the cable length per Honda manual: With engine running start tightening down the nut until the mower barely creeps forward on its on. From that point reverse it 5 full turns and lock it down.

    • @TheLawnmowerLady
      @TheLawnmowerLady  2 роки тому +1

    Greetings!!! I got one of these mowers last year for $60brand new. It had been returned to Lowe's where my boyfriend works. The customer stated the self p r open option wouldn't work but the belt was perfect and in place. I turned it over to see what was "actually" happening under there. The belt was fine but loose. I watched this video and you loosened the belt wheel with the tensioner on the handle. I went to see if it was tight and sure enough it was completely loose. I tightened it up and it works perfectly. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
    I have a Husqvqrna self propelled 6.75 model 96143001200. I paid $50 for it and was told it ran the year prior and had been under dry cover porch where it was when I picked it up. It won't start and I'm not sure what I need to do to get it going. I'm starting with a tune up. The funny thing is it has a plastic "key" on the handle I'm not sure what it does

      Happy to help. Sounds like that Husqvarna has or had an electric start. Unless the blade brake releases, the engine is still grounded out, like the dead man handle is not fully engaged. Hope this helps. Start with the basics: Spark, fuel, and air. You can tap all three by squirting a but of fuel into the throat of the carb. If it starts and runs for a second or two, you've pin-pointed your problem: fuel. I should do a video on this...

You didn't have to remove the plastic shroud. But the other way it wasn't necessary to remove the blades. I'll try it your way next time and see which is easier. I may get a third chance. The charm. EXCELLENT VIDEO. Really, you did a wonderful job of explaining every step, and making it accessible to a common homeowner.
    SUGGESTION: I'm not positive, but I think that the only direction it's safe to tip that engine is towards the right (as if you were draining the oil) as you did in your video, and that tipping it other directions can lead to oil getting places in the engine it's not supposed to (or leaking out and making a mess). If I'm wrong, disregard this. If I'm right, I think that would be important to insert (text overlay?) into your video at that point around 1:52.
    ALSO, at 4:49 you put "13 mm spanner" text on the screen, but I just did mine (exact same mower as in this video) and it's actually a 14 mm.
    Anyway, thank you so much!!

    It is the Honda auto choke that causes surging until engine temp rises enough to melt wax in choke actuator, not bad gas. The choke is closed and gradually opens as engine temp rises. Initial surging on cold start is completely normal.

    Thanks for the great video, it certainly helps all of us.
    Just wanted to add a note on the transmission pulley - both sides of the pulley you'll notice a dimple protruding out along with holes.
    You need to align them so that they on opposite sides, 180 deg from each other.
    One dimple will set in a hole on the other pulley, and the same with the other side of the pulley.
    This is how they lock and align onto each other, if you do not do this, your pulley will not be aligned and will be wider on one side tat the other,
    and cause the belt to fluctuate.
    Thanks ALL

    Greaat video. You rock Lawnmower Lady ;) I will add one thing. It may sound silly but I'm a long time lawn mower and small engine repairer and it still took me a couple of minutes to figure out. So: if you're working on getting that nut loose from the rear drive pulley and the tansmission won't rotate far enough to access the 6mm flat then just move the lever for the rear wheel height adjustment. Voila... all the room in the world. Also while I used a 6mm wrench I'd suggest vise-grips as shown in this video. My 6mm open end wanted to slip off the flat. I've installed belts (and drive cables) on other Honda shutter type mowers where you literally had to remove all the shutter parts. It is a PITA and makes the job take 3 times as long. This was a piece of cake. Thanks again LML!

    Enjoyed the video.
    Idea, while you had the belt out i would have measured it up and taken it to a belt replacement store or wherever they sell them and got an identical and or noted the size it was in comparison, then if another mower comes in you can buy the right size belt the next day and not wait and also you could have shown other viewers the belt size and they could go buy one quickly.

      @@TheLawnmowerLady Sorry I actually meant the new honda belt, before fitting it, go size it up against some new ones in a store and get it's size, so your prepared next time and also pass that size on to viewers if possible.
      I've got a three wheel edger with a 4hp honda, I never go to the original maker or mower shops, I go straight to a specialised machinist shop nearby who carrys a large range and also does those kevlar belts and the cogged v belts and a large range of pulleys,
      Would be interesting to see if a cogged v belt would run better on the honda given it's running on a tight circuit.

    I just tried to start mine and it started making a knocking sound. We had some standing flood water around the bottom of the mower deck the other day so I wonder if that had something to do with the problem. I checked and the belt seemed a little bit loose for some reason but I don't think that the belt was broken because it worked just fine the last time I mowed with it.
    The plastic piece that sets a top. The mower deck seems a little bit loose. Also. I was able to jiggle it a little bit so I'm not sure if that has something to do with the problem.

      I have not on this mower. Several folks report any debris that gets in there, stops the drive: sticks, twigs, rocks, etc. Get both wheels off the ground, and turn the pulley by hand. The two ends of that axle should turn, and thereby the wheels. If not, you might have an issue with the transmission, or the wheels. Looking at the parts diagram, it doesn't seem you need to put tension on that lever where the cable attaches to engage something inside the gearbox. I appreciate you watching. Cheers!

  • @mharing
    @mharing 2 роки тому +3

    One thing I noticed about this tension drive belt system: If small dense debris (like a little pinecone) gets caught up in the drive pulley, you can lose the drive. I was doing an area with lots of those little buggers in mulch mode when this caused my mower to not respond to throttle. The pulley was worth a quick check to clear debris. I thought I dropped the belt, but it was just a stuck pinecone in the pulley guide.

    Great video BUT what was left out here is that in order to be able to roatate the rear pully for access is tthe need o remove the bracket that the rearmost spring attaches to. If this is not done, the pully will not rotate enough to allow access to the hex nut on the pully. If the racket is not removed it stops the rotation of the pully because this bracket hits and stops at the axel. Because it is such a tight area and when you have big hands this eats up the most time to change out the belt. I had to use a small wrench because a ratchet would not fit into the compacted space. Great walkthrough though.

    • @TheLawnmowerLady
      @TheLawnmowerLady  2 роки тому

People don't seem to like Honda's service either.
