      Tell that man to, whenever he shuts it off for the season, to put a tag on it to remind him to turn the gas back on at start of season. XD

    I REALLY love that melting trick you showed. You repair guys are REALLY craft/smart/creative and resourceful when it comes to repair you know that? You guys REALLY know how to think out of the box when it comes to this stuff, and this is ANOTHER huge reason why I love watching your show - learning all these tips and tricks and thinking on your toes - really great stuff. You know that HEAT/Quench trick you taught? If it were not for watching your videos - I would have never been able to remove a sway bar from my car to replace the plugs because OF THE TRICK YOU TAUGHT ME!!! So - huge thanks to you guys - TONS of stuff you show - also helps me with repair in MANY OTHER THINGS in my life!!!

      Gonna have to check that out first, I already have gotten rid of one honda mower that the tranny went out (1st one), then the second one with the rear wheel hight adjust lever that broke! Got the rear end taken apart to find out it’s impossible to fit new one in! So it’s sitting in the shed in pieces🤦🏽‍♂️. hopefully my MS having ass will be able to fix this one and not have to buy yet another one. Wish there was a fellow veteran around my area in CNY that can help this 100% service connected disabled veteran (who’s also a below right knee amputee come over and help a brother out. These Honda mowers are what help me walk around the whole yard getting plenty of excercise. This messed up mower has me pushing it uphill, both ways, through the leaves, sometimes through the mud, causing light headedness and chest pain!

    Awesome video. I did this back in April on the exact same mower I have. I could have used this video at the time, but I did it just like you did. I replaced the pulleys while I was at it. My mower is 5 years old. Honda engines are the best! 1 pull start every time for 5+ years.

      Heck, I bought my HRR216 right around 1999/2000 and I'm just now coming to this video as my original drive belt which doesn't have a problem moving the mower, but it has just recently barely begun to squeal a little when engaging, so I was researching how to change it if it should fail. . But my mower is still one pull every start 24 years later. I'll never part with this thing.

      Well, that's good to know. Brought mine in 2015. Think I'll check the smart cable adjustment first, belt may have stretched , having to push all the way down now.

      I posted above 2 weeks ago, but almost immediately afterwards decided to change the belt (and more) and used this video as a guide. The instructions here are perfect. I skipped the hot screwdriver and just used some Loctite super glue which dries pretty quick. Decided to spiff the whole mower up at the same time. So, new belt, new wheels, oil change, air filter change, new spark plug, new blade. First cut I realize just how bad it had gotten slowly over time and I just didn't notice. This thing now wanted to go way faster than I wanted to walk. Now I barely have to push on the drive lever. Only things I had changed in the previous 24yrs was the oil and the spark plug but now she looks like a brand new mower. I fully expect this thing to last long after I'm under the grass.

    This video was spot on. I turned my mower on it's side with the carb facing down and oil leaked into the cylinder. If I was doing this again, I would turn off the fuel and run whatever was in the carb out. I would drain the oil. Do the belt replacement as shown in this video. Then put in new oil and turn gas on. Mine would not start after the oil got in to the cylinder. It required me pulling the spark plug, spraying some carb cleaner in it, removing the air filter which was soaked in oil, and restarting it. My fault for turning it the wrong way. Great video and an easy job after watching this.

    • @savage22bolt32

      I leaned mine on the right side (carb facing up) and oil leaked on my floor, so I drained the rest of it. After getting the belt on & adjusted, I filled with fresh oil.
      PS, had a few drips in the air cleaner box too, but no trouble starting (after I remembered to put the sparkplug wire back on)

    • @alanswanson9651
      @alanswanson9651 Рік тому

      On some series of this model the belt guide bolts are under the transmission pulley. The approved way to remove the bolts, guide, and belt are as follows: First remove the drive cable and retention spring from the transmission unit. This allows the transmission to be rotated so the top of the pulley is accessible. Remove the nut that secures the "split" pulley to the transmission shaft, remove the pulley halves and spacer, and the guide bolts and guide. Remove and replace the belt and reapply parts in the reverse order. I FOUND IT TO BE EASIER TO JUST BEND THE GUIDE EARS ENOUGH TO ALLOW THE BELT REMOVAL AND CAREFULLY BEND THEM BACK AFTER REPLACING THE BELT. I STILL NEEDED TO ROTATE THE TRANSMISSION AND THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF THE REPAIR WAS TO REATTACH THE TRANSMISSION SPRING.

    I need to say not all Honda hrr 216 are the same on the transmission pulley guards. On mine you have to take the transmission pulley off to get to the belt guard bolts. However, I just bent my belt guard on the transmission to get the belt off/on. Everything else was the same. Good show though..

    Great tips! I have to say though, the more of those mowers I own and work on the less I like them. They have a lot of problems pulling back due to axle bearing issues (they should have used real bearings instead of wrong sized sleeve bearings) and the decks can rot out because they’re just stamped steel. For the same money a Toro SR4 is a much better mower IMO.

    One thing to add to this video; not all HRR216 mowers have the 10mm bolts for the bracket holding the belt on the drive axle. The only way to remove the belt is to remove the drive pulley (14mm nut). Removing the blade and blade adapter makes this easier as it allows the drive mechanism to swing down after removing the spring and cable end.

    Thanks for the video ! Good Mower, but also like all other mowers, there are problems. The Plastic decks on some never rot, yet are prone to breaking, Gear box's are probably it's weak point. Crazy replacement cost also. The Honda engine ( not this specific design ), but the one's on Troybilt or Toro, are good. The dual blade design (engine) are not easily transferrable. The Mickey Mouse clutch for the blade design,. . . why? All just my opinion (experience).

    Maybe a magnet on a stick? That hot butter knife did the trick tho.
