I've still got a Panasonic 42" Full HD Plasma, which I believe was one of the last generation of plasmas. Well beyond the John Lewis 5 year warranty, I think its over 12 now still working perfectly, really good picture with nice colour and contrast with good blacks. Also keeps the room warm and the speakers are crap, but you can't have everything.
Ditto. Still got my Panasonic 50 inch plasma - 2012 model & still going strong. Like you say - it's like having an extra heat source in the living room.😎
Actually I must add, while the TV itself is still working fine, the remote is beyond service now. The membrane contacts are completely worn out and I've had to replace it with an inferior "compatible" model.
The single foot stand is far better than two spindly legs each end of TV if you deliver this it will fit on any table or glass stand if you go with the two legs each end you need a very large piece of furniture for it to stand on I cannot stand wall mounted ones
I still have a 42" Panasonic HD Plasma from Richer Sounds from 2013, so coming up for 12 years old. Still perfect and I use it with a Humax PVR to make is 'smart'. I'll be going back to Richer Sounds when this one dies!
This is NOT A GOOD DEAL, even with the guarantee. Why? Because the edgelit LEDs in these only last 18 months and replacements are not available. How do I know? I work in a very large, very busy repair center, and this new breed of TCL made, edgelit Panasonics have been coming in here now for the last 2 or 3 months. Also, just for good measure, when the LEDs burn out they also melt the leading edge of the prism sheet (just like many Samsung models do). Under the "guarantee", if they can't repair the TV (they definitely can't), you don't get the TV replaced with a nice new one. You instead get a 30% discount off your next TV. Buying a TV from RS or JL is a good move generally, as long as you're buying a decent brand (Panasonic has long since stopped being a decent brand). My advice is to buy a brand such as LG which has excellent spares backup. it'll probably still break down within the 5/6 year warranty period, that's just the way modern TVs are nowadays, but at least you have a decent chance of it being repaired, rather than having to shell out hundreds of pounds every 2 or 3 years.
Also available at John Lewis for the same price with five years warranty - arguably a better deal as RS apparently limit the value of the warranty as the years clock up. Appears to be a Vestel this one - the Toshiba sets, also at JL are cheaper and also carry the warranty.
"Maybe Vestel but it's No Turkey" 🎉 .. I bought the 50" W60 from JL last month, under £300 with 5 year warranty ❤ - For a secondary TV, in our place, it's Genuinely Exceptional 🎉 'Freely' is a game-changer, .. maybe not so loved if you 'represent' TV Licensing Enforcement 😂😂
I bought a Samsung from John Lewis which failed (backlights) after 3.5 years. They arranged for it to be repaired but when it failed again, same fault, after a few months they agreed a full refund. Can't beat JL. Gone back to Sony's now 🙂
Best TV I ever owned, Panasonic 46" plasma. It's just got the 5 red flashes of death after nearly 17 years. Waiting for an honest engineer to repair it,, By the way, it came with a one year warranty plus a five year warranty from the euronics shop I bought it from.
Trouble is it's a completely different company making the Panasonic TVs today, comparing the quality with your one is pointless. Mind you from what I've read, most companies quality isn't what it was 5 years ago.
The only problem with store warranties like from Richer Sounds and John Lewis is that if the company goes under then the guarantee is completely worthless. I had an extended warranty from Comet - remember them? Times are hard and some companies won't make it. I'm pretty confident that JL will be with us for the next 5 years, but I don't know enough about RS to say the same. I just got a wonderful 55" LED backlit LG from JL. 👍 All the best everyone.
Hi ive got the 43" version which was £325 now 299 at john lewis, and 5 year warrenty, yes there is a quirky software problem's when having a sky box via hdmi, and then try to change channel when in tv digital mode via the GUI Freely programme guide, but otherwise its got more bass and better sound than my last vestel type set. And i prefer the remote compared to a tiny samsung rcu. Buy it take a chance. If your budget lets you pay for a oled of over 1000 great , for a real panasonic oled , but for the money i paid for the 43 im happy. Full array version is 700+.
This is the same TV that when purchasing a new TV in store, a Richer Sounds manager told me that he couldn't honestly recommend any one buying it as it's absolute garbage (his words). Also their 6 year warranty isn't new for old. If it's not repairable you lose 10% for every year you've owned it, so if after 5 years it died, you would get a voucher for Richer sounds for £199.50 not £399 (still better than nothing but not what most people expect). I would still only ever buy from them or John Lewis though.
As Allen rightly says, with a 6 year warranty it has to be a good thing.. 🎉 Apparently, TCL have overtaken Sony in the UK for brand Market-Share.. Someone is buying them, clearly..!?? ❤
Given Sony's prices, and that you can't get the new Bravia 9 in the UK below a size that you need to live in a mansion for, I'm not surprised. Currys shop assistant told me not to touch TCL TVs, and they had them on display. As for Richer Sounds, I've always found them useless. The consistently refuse to price match competitors' prices, always using their 5 year guarantee as the excuse. When you read the small print, their guarantee isn't isn't worth the paper it's printed on. As for Panasonics, if you can afford them, their OLEDs match the LG G4. Stunning TVs.
