I sent Bob an email after reading his biography and told him I thought it was a great book and he had a very interesting story and I respected how he lives his life. He sent me back a several paragraph email and said it warmed his heart to hear from me. Yes he is a bit different. I know I sure as hell wouldn't have tried to shoot on him. The man was a power house.
Bob backlund and Kurt angle would have been the best tag team.
I can picture Mr. Backlund being truculent cutting that promo in the bar with all those plebeians around him.

Yeah I heard or read Bob say that "Mr. Backlund" was real, his crazy promos were his real feelings, but of course Bob at first, tried to pick up from where he left off when he returned to the WWF in '92. Anyone remember his great stay in the '93 Royal Rumble? The fans seemed to be behind him when he was trying to eliminate Yokozuna near the end, but at WrestleMania IX he was putting over up and coming Scott Hall(Razor Ramon), getting small packaged and beat in about 5 minutes. I'm surprised that he was pushed to the top heel spot, but I think there were probably a number of things that led to Vince Jr. going with Backlund. His medium size was less of an issue with opponents like Bret Hart , Lex Luger and Randy Savage in the top babyface spots. Regardless of the reasons behind it, I think "Mr. Backlund" was more than a crazy old man, comedy act, but when Diesel beat him for the belt in 8 seconds, he certainly looked like a crazy old man comedy act, which made Bret Hart look like a guy who lost the belt to a crazy old man comedy act. Backlund claimed in an interview that Vince had promised him a proper title reign, but had to take drastic action when Randy Savage left the WWF for WCW. Another thing you could argue is that Owen's presence in the Survivor Series '94 title match made it seem like another Bret-Owen contest with Backlund simply Owen's tool for getting revenge on Bret.
Bob needs to bring back the straight edge society with punk.they could trash talk all those marijuana eaters.

Bob,Bruno and Pedro were my favorite champions of all time.
I never understood the mass appeal of baby face Bob Backlund, granted tremendous athlete, but the guy was horrible on the stick, and so over exaggerated his expressions in the ring, I have to think being in such good shape, and devoted to maintaining himself physically, was what helped put him over. I always remember what legendary Bobby Heenan said "A good talker will take you much further in the wrestling business than a good body will."
