That’s a problem with a lot of wrestlers right now. I always used to watch the show and in the back of my mind I trust that they’re professionals and they’re probably going to be fine. With a lot of wrestling (I’ll just say it, mostly in aew) it’s hard to watch without cringing because I don’t trust that they aren’t going to injure themselves for no reason, and I don’t want to feel like I’m supporting it. Even guys like danielson who’s one of my favorite wrestlers and I’m certain he knows how to protect himself, just chooses not to and makes it where I can’t watch most of his matches. It’s pretty sad

I saw a clip the other day where Taker was saying that it’s his job to make this stuff look as real as possible, even if it isn’t, and safety is a primary concern, that he’d go backstage and have wrestlers ask him if he actually got injured. I presume that goes both ways.
I think fans can really only comment up to a certain point. If it looks real, or brutal, chances are, the wrestlers are just doing their jobs well, and they know how to do them. What I’d worry about is if wrestlers came out and said, hey, this guy is unsafe. No idea what he’s doing. But nobody’s saying that about Taker. They’re saying they got taken care of, and it was a good experience for them.
Add to that the pre-CTE knowledge era. Lots of judgement by people living in a different era, who’ve never done anything like this before and can’t know.

I agree with the majority of comments, Taker just ALWAYS laid in the chair shots. He *always* laid them in, and he *ALWAYS* made sure that when *he was taking one* that they SWUNG like they were up at bat in the final inning.
In no way did Taker take out any personal beef with Kanyon. But at the same time, if you told me that Vince or the office told Taker to go out there and put some mustard on his shots for this segment, i wouldnt think twice about that. Because WWE and Vince back then were very petty and extremely peculiar about how they handled their business.
So if Kanyon pissed off the office and accused them if they didn't sign him and properly push him because he was gay, i could definitely see Vince sending Taker out there to lay out Kanyon. But i just cant see it, this was during the time when Kanyon was tryig to hide his sexuality, and apparently it was a poorly kept secret. But even in the Dark Side Of The Ring episode, Kanyon was extremely paranoid about this.
But yeah, there's no way that Taker took liberties with Kanyon because he was gay.

It over the video in post production. Just a thought/suggestion.

Taker didn't target Kanyon. Very occasionally there is a gay guy who accuses others of homophobia to curry fake sympathy because it's easy to get positive heat for saying 'people are bigoted against me'. Now, I have no doubt Vince has a complicated history with homosexuality - Pat Patterson is one of his trusted advisors, yet this is the guy who encouraged homophobic slurs to get heat on Goldust. What I would say is, it was sickening he was asked to do Culture Club. That was demeaning. Taker didn't book that. Vince did. Kanyon definitely has a case to go after the office.
But there's no evidence on Taker. Taker did definitely treat everybody the same when it came to chair shots. Wrestling isn't a business for weak people. It's a tough, vicious business. If that's hard to accept, don't watch it. They were wrong to do chair shots to the head - they're not doing it any more, that's positive. But that they did at the time was where the business was at and Kanyon, saying Taker went for him as gay punishment, seems like using his sexuality to curry views and sympathy and changing the narrative. It was definitely a punishment making Kanyon do Culture Club in front of Taker, but not enough evidence to say Taker was involved. Kanyon says yes, has only opinion, no corroboration from those backstage at the time. Taker says no, is angry and upset about it, gives actual evidence why not, nobody else backstage argues. Taker didn't hard shot Orlando Jordan - so why would Taker go for a guy who wasn't open about his homosexuality and yet not stiff the openly bisexual guy who flirted backstage openly?
