Thanks for the video y'all! The gutter system looks great. Big advantage to this system is that it is easy to see when they are ripe, and easy to reach them. No more crawling around on your knees... like I do... One downside; the roots have very little soil to pull nutrients from, and within a week, they will be starving. You will have to feed them everything they need, on a weekly basis.

Hi Green Acres family. Enjoy watching you and listening to the boys playing like little boys do. My suggestion about your runners that you put in water is to buy Root Tone and sprinkle some in the water. It is great way to encourage root growth.

"Stwawberryologist Sam" 🤣 Love this concept you came up with here. You already have a crop going but I wonder about pollinators getting to the blossoms. Crows would get my muscadines just as picking day came around. Very frustrating. Take care and God bless.

I recently heard Mossy Bottom channel say one way he gets a good strawberry harvest, is to pick them as soon as they start to show some red, then let them finish ripening in the house. He grows in the ground and harvests enough to sell in his road side stand, so it seems to work.

I am still waiting to see that rain dance. lol, I think it would be funny as well as entertaining as all get out,,,lol. You can remove the runners now, or you can leave them on the plant, it won’t affect fruiting. When you remove the runners, plant them out to become your strawberry plants for next season. If you leave your existing strawberry plants in, next season the crop and fruit size will be reduced, therefore you will get a more abundant crop next season... Transplanting Strawberry Runners. Cut the small plants from the runners. Do this in the fall as soon as the baby plants have a well-defined cluster of leaves and visible roots. The runner can be completely removed from the parent and the baby plant with garden shears. Prepare the planting bed. Choose an area that has good drainage.

Sam, Angela what a great idea the gutter system is, here's a similar system I adopted from an old work mate many years ago, here's how he did it, he grew his strawberry's in large pots in his greenhouse, he had 3 rows and each row had a different coloured pot (you will see why) he used what he called his 3 tier system, to get his 3 tiers he had to start somewhere, so the first 2 years he took as many runners (suckers we call them) as he could, to give him the three rows he needed, choosing only the strongest plants.
From then on he only took runners from the oldest plants, any runners from the other plants were cut off and discarded, he clipped a smaller pot to the sides of the larger growing pots to root them in, when rooted he separated them from the parent plant and grew them on separately changing them into larger pots when needed, till the final pot, from these newly rooted plants he again only selected the strongest plants to make enough for a new row, discarding any others.
When a 3 year old plant had finished it's crop season, they were discarded, (you have to be ruthless in this), but don't forget these old plants also supplied the new plants for next season, hence the reason for the coloured pots for rotation purposes, each year the plants moved down a row, from the youngest at the top to the oldest on the bottom, he swore down by growing them this way they gave him the best quantity and disease/pest free crops.
The 2 year old plants give the heaviest crop usually.

A good way to block the drain holes that you drilled is to use some of the metal roofing screws that have the rubber washer under the head. Just screw them into the holes using a hand tool and not the drill. The drill would probably strip the plastic on the gutter.

I looked at the vinyl gutters and they were only 4" wide so it seemed like a very small place to grow my strawberries. Although I do like the look and feel and how easy you were able to put them up. I am in the process of nailing up 3 -10' gutters on the outer wall of my house, which is stucco / brick. So I picked up a carbine drill bit and a about 16- 3" tapcons. Wish me luck !!!!

Excuse for troubling. And a huge gratitude for the video clip of how you grow strawberries ... We have some questions for you, because English is not our native language and we did not understand a lot what you explained. We watched a lot of similar videos and almost everyone talks about different things, namely what composition of the earth needs to be created, for example, many people recommend adding and what did you use from this list? Peat Moss,Compost, perlite,Fertilizer. And how do you feed your strawberry plants after planting?
