You should start at the bottom and work up. Place strawberry through from inside out so you don't damage the roots!. Then add a nother layer of soil and so on until you get to the top . Hope that makes sense.
Seriously, how can 91 people dislike strawberries AND knowledge? I guess this goes to show there’s no pleasing some people. Thanks for the video and the suggestions. Especially getting the kid out there to help; that’s a great idea.

It’s great having your Son work with you in this video. It goes a long way in life with him. Just for that, I will subscribe right now! Great video ...thanks. 🙏🏽🍏🥑👍🏽💚🦋
Good idea. Next time try poking the plants in first before filling with soil. Or fill a little, add plants at the soil level, then fill a few more inches and poke in more plants. I hope that basket holds up several years for you. Stuff like that usually only lasts 2 seasons here in the Oklahoma sun before getting brittle and falling apart. Good luck with this project! I really like it.
Great info and nice to see Noah so involved. I have a local council allotment which has strawberries all over it growing 'wild' that came from runners. It's May 1st 2019 so currently they are flowering. I'm going to transplant them into pots and look for a laundry basket. What a cool idea! The tip about the alyssum is brilliant. I was amazed at how many bee visits it takes to get fruit! You have a new subscriber!
Thank you so much for watching, for commenting and subscribing! I love how strawberries are so prolific and will spread. This is a great way of growing them and I have really gotten a lot of Success With It. I was pretty amazed with that bee fact as well!
I live in Wisconsin and wonder if the cold would kill my plants or is the basket large enough to protect the tender roots. Too much trouble to grow as an annual but I love it if they will come back in the spring! Thanks to anyone who knows. Cheers!
I'm from WV too. The soil is so rich in WV you pretty much stick it in the ground without damaging the roots and it'll grow. Can't go wrong. Now I live in Phoenix,AZ. Sun beats down at 100+ degrees everyday and soil is like rock. Heat is the main challenge, but at least we can grow stuff year round. If you can get strawberries just right, they are ever-bearing here. The challenge is too much sun and not enough watering. This video might help me.
You are right about the Sequoia strawberry being a good one to grow. I bought one years ago and now have so many plants I give them away! They send out shoots that I pot so they become new plants. I have also tried the hamper method and over the years my strawberries grow as big as the ones in the store. Also the taste is amazing! They actually taste as good as they smell unlike the ones in the market that only smell good. My grands shop my garden for berries every time they visit. It's great to get the kids involved.
TY, will share. Back to nature involving children to grow and harvest food by trying out new ways on how-to while learning the importance of pollination to have food. Also to continue when changes are needed , like here the watering system. The amount of floorspace of this container is minimal as well as it can be moved. This could be made into school class project, be done on a balkony, so many options. You provided the basics and why, from plant in refrigarator to harvest. Growing without chemicals improves air quality. Back to natur with winners on both sides.

He slit holes in pipe for watering, then covered the slits with plastic and tape. DUH! Not too bright!
Actually it was weed cloth
Great idea. One thing though. Bees need to pollinate but they eat the berries too. Our patch had too many.
Thank you for posting your update in your description comment above. Especially about the watering system. It be nice though to actually see the basket at it's best :D
I did a follow up video this spring!

I wanna put the gravel in the pipe also allowing water and fertilizer to run through slowly and the dirt won't get into the pipe
I went to your channel, there’s no info on what happened to the strawberries, did they grow? Was it a fail? What happened to them?
I did updates in some of the garden tours. They were an absolute success and still are. I haven't had one eaten by a bug!
Cool it seems like a great project! Will try it in my garden!
What type of flowers did you plant at the top?
Alyssum
I love the basket idea even better than the milk crates. Lol, I was just about to order my milk crates when I decided to go back and look at a couple videos again using the milk crates when I saw your video... way more less expensive than the crates.👍 . Now, aren’t you worried about the plants being to close to the ground?
Thanks for your comment! And for watching! The basket has worked really well. It's produced tons of fruit and no bugs! Just check the update in the description. You don't need the center tube. It works fine without it.
