Thought that was Coverdale for a sec....he would've sounded especially awesome on that.

@dedcowbowee That's John Miles, who also sang 2 songs on Jimmy's Outrider album (this was the Outrider tour). Not this song though. And had this song featured drums you would have seen Jason Bonham...who played drums on the album and tour!

@@Katerina9256 Awesome! I remember hearing the album as a friend had it and "Blues Anthem" was one of the stand outs for me! I really must find it here on YT because there were some other great tracks. I think I knew about Jason playing but had forgotten over the years. I remember the album singer for this track had a very distinctive, powerful voice. Mr. Miles did a great job covering it here too.Thank you very much, will be having a listen and a read soon!

@dedcowbowee Yeah that was Chris Farlowe who sang this on the album, as well as on the cover of Leon Russell's Hummingbird, which I especially loved. I think he sang on at least one more but can't recall at the moment. I'm listening to this this morning and still struck by how great Coverdale would have been on this song! Of course they did get together just a few years later for that STELLAR Coverdale/Page album...I mean that one was outstanding imo.
Fun fact: Jimmy made an appearance on Rockline during the promotion of Outrider...in case you never heard of it it was a live call-in show that was broadcasted on radio stations around the country. Anyway I got on and got to speak with Jimmy--told him I'd been a fan for many many years and thanked him for all the great music, then I asked what he thought about all the Zep bootlegs floating around. He said something to the effect of 'I don't really mind as long as I don't make too many mistakes' 😄

@@Katerina9256 Oh yeah,"Hummingbird' was great too! I remember"'Rockline" as well, lol. We must be similar in age. So cool you spoke with jimmy! I almost called in to Ozzy on it during his first solo tour but I was listening with my girlfriend and got distracted. I'm going to listen to 'Outrider" again, probably today. I miss those days man! it's funny, 'Coverdale Page" was an incredible album but my friend group were all too busy acting unimpressed while i was grooving on it. "Absolution Blues" was a burner, really great album but underrated in it's time. Another guy I knew called it "Cover Version Page and I'm lie, Jimmy's riffs and Dave's voice, what more can you ask for?
