The greatness of this is that it shows in its simplicity a few of the things that made Led Zeppelin the best rock band ever. First, Page, Jones and Michael Lee lay down a powerful hypnotic groove, essential to Led Zeppelin. Page, being the consummate band leader, knows that he's got something special in the blues noise realm happening, so he just lays it down and doesn't lead the jam anywhere but where it needs to stay ... in the groove, with Jones embellishing. Plant, iconic front man that he was, sees an opportunity for some joyous madness, and, throwing all caution to the wind, grabs a guitar and goes for it. The result is an expression of exuberance, joy and a love for the stage and the company of his fellow musicians, and some Buffalo Springfield too. All this is made possible by Page, who has allowed Young and Plant plenty of room to be themselves, and the massive rhythm section sound of Jones and Michael Lee , an incredible drummer who, like John Bonham, died far too young for words. This jam was a monumental act of spontaneous skronk and joy!

Really and who died and named you GOD to judge what everyone else thinks? You're like a spoiled rich bitch driving 55 on a 65 highway with nothing better to, and you speed up everytime a some one who has an emergency to go to or is trying to get to work on time tries to get around you, and when they get back in the slow you slow your arse down again. I really am glad that my kids didn't have a charmed life with rich parents or have some guy with money keep them.
Neil embodies the sheer joy of playing a monster loud electric guitar and Jimmy loves it. Pity all the fools who can't see that because they think Young doesn't have 'good technique'. He's a hurricane🤘
The drums sounded dead, sounded flat like a cheap Hello Kitty drum set or some shit compared to John and Jason's booming and deep sounding drums. I think that's what made this song so good. With the volume turned up to 11, on a good car stereo, with that loud booming base drum and those loud, crystal clear, cymbals. Your rearview mirror didn't really stand a chance staying attached, but who cared anyways!
Plant and Young are playing guitar like Yoko Ono sings. If I didnt know who these people were and that they indeed are some of the most talented people in rock, I would assume those was like a rock n roll fantasy camp for rich dads
I know I'm in the minority, but I really love this. Page has no real idea what's going on, but JPJ does; he gets that there's a real connection between Plant and Young. It's why Plant picks up the guitar. To bleed into the noise Neil's creating. He's digging it. Plant's never liked dredging up stuff he'd done before. And this was new, this sound he was making with Neil. He ignores JP. It's all about Neil. That's why he spontaneously brings in the bit of FWIW; he really did feel like something was going on. Look at connection between them at 6:10; it's like Plant is calming a wild animal. Neil's eyes are locked on him, waiting the signal. The drama is just fantastic. To me, the whole things works; including when JPJ cranks the tempo at 6:30, and Neil gurns on that cyclic riff of his. They're clearly having a blast by this point, and it's great to see. So to me, this is real, live collaboration. And I love it.
Leave it to Neil to grunge it up while jamming with Plant, a unique performance. Could Jimmy Page have been the 3rd guitarist? Never heard that before.
@@mtnvalley9298 I don't think so... John Paul Jones and Page looked at Neil Young like he was out of his mind and just stood out of his way and basically let him make an ass of himself. At least that's the impression I got watching this I could be wrong but that's just my opinion
@@mtnvalley9298 75 people agreed with me and zero people agreed with you at this point...... I don't know how you can "eyeroll" that buddy. BTW, of course none of the guys in the band would say how they really feel they have to be polite about everything nobody's going to actually knock Neil Young like that, but their expressions on their face and their body language during the so-called improvisation says it all lol
I never tire watching Neil Young wrestling them notes out of his guitar! When Robert straps on a guitar and shoots Neil a conspiratorial, mischievous grin, egging Neil on into some righteous guitar weaving with Pagey and JPJ!
I absolutely love the laid back vibe of jamming during this hall of fame performance. That's so Led Zeppelin lol. I just love seeing Neil and Robert and Jimmy enjoying themselves with one another. Then Robert gives that nod to Buffalo Springfield with those lyrics..just all around fucking cool. Thanks for the post ✌🖤🤘
I first saw this when I visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a few months after it opened and was in one of its big video rooms. Grunge was still all the rage then, and it fit well with the times.
Neil plays loudly, and he is very intense, that's what he does. If Jimmy didn't like this, he wouldn't have invited Neil. And the nod to Buffalo Springfield was pretty cool.
Agreed, and Plant implements the Buffalo Springfield lyrics into Levee like an unreleased additional verse. So ingeniously performed here , if you weren't familiar with the Buffalo Springfield song, you'd think it was a verse that Plant wrote , then left out at inception of the recording of Levee, but decided to install it this nite with Neil Young. It was a tribute to Neil that'd melt any musician, no matter their success or recognition. I've underestimated Robert Plant at times like many others, but his vocal injury in the 70s was beyond his control. At the end of the day this guy has as much talent to improv and blend-in as anyone else in Zep.
JWC 1958 Really good Phenomenal performance with the great Neil Young rocking out with Zeppelin. One of the greatest rock bands of all time. Just mostly listened to the Zeppelin hits in the 70's. Now this 65 year old enjoys them and appreciates them a lot more on UA-cam and Classic rock radio stations.
Enjoying all the Zeppelin songs. Getting wife to buy me 10 Cd box set of all Zeppelin recordings to enjoy. Long live the remaining members of Zeppelin. Rock on!!!
They all look like they’re having the time of their lives. Sad that they could never stay back together. Incredible musicians in a league all their own
Heather Zettlemoyer Neil Young just has bags more energy, attitude and chops, even if it seems a bit sloppy, than others less than half his age. Keep on rocking Neil, an absolute legend.
he looks possessed. i think he is out of his mind because the only thing he seems to be aware of is that it is them that he is playing with and it is overwhelming hahahahahaa it is too funny
I've never seen this before, and it totally made this snowy day better. It's nice to see that even Jimmy Page and Robert Plant can be infected by Neil's vibe. Thank you, sir.
The commenters should lighten up; it is simply a jam session. Lots of videos of these guys in their prime that would shame any of the AutoTuned wannabes of today. Check Led Zeppelin's reunion at Albert Hall.
This is the Rock and Roll hall of fame! This isn't open mic night at your local pub! This was a mighty class inducted that year. This class included Joplin, Zappa.. This only validates why Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers were voted in before them!
Come on. Led Zeppelin is so lame. With of course the exception of The Rain Song....GREAT TUNE. Their lyrics are always so lame and weak. Not interesting in anyway whatsoever. The arrangements are predictable at best. If you want to hear some real cutting edge stuff, I would suggest listening to some Zappa, Yes, Pink Floyd or King Crimson. Not this infantile material. Fuck Led Zeppelin.
It's not about impressing those on the floor, ok? This is what jam sessions look like...hours and hours....into the morning. I'm shaking my head at how many here making comments don't "get it" and...honestly,,, they never will.
This reminds me of a teenage garage band jamming along to a blues song they barely know. But they’re having fun all the same.
Yes very garagey. Wish Zep had been a bit more garegey in the heyday.
Plant's ability to make his laryngitis sound good and show his new ax skills along with Young's convulsive shredding of his (truly on par with Hedrix's guitar fire) can't be described and must be seen.

Sandy Holliday lol why you so salty that people earn more money than you? And also your entire comment was pointless and irrelevant
You haters don’t get it. These Guys, NY included started their careers listening to the old blues masters. Back then everything was a jam session
Got that right man
Nothing wrong with a jam, it just sounds weird, out of tune or something.
Yeah but those old blues lads were talented
yEAH..... nah.... this was shit
@@rodparnell1953
It's Rock N Roll.
Neil embodies the sheer joy of playing a monster loud electric guitar and Jimmy loves it. Pity all the fools who can't see that because they think Young doesn't have 'good technique'. He's a hurricane🤘
Neil absolutely shreds
THEY ARE BOTH LEGENEDS.
Neil is forever.
Neil Young is ....awesome
Plant friggin pulled off epic guitar, Neil unbelievable, this is 5 iconic men having a great time showing off beyond fantastic talent
This is one of the greatest live performances in the history of rock & roll.
I think what you say about Page is way off .
@@ChrisLawton66 Fair enough. We all see things differently!
Leave it to Neil to grunge it up while jamming with Plant, a unique performance. Could Jimmy Page have been the 3rd guitarist? Never heard that before.
If you take the stage with Neil, prepare to be upstaged. Doesn't matter who, doesn't matter how many, Neil will dominate!
RIP Michael Lee - monster on drums!!
I have been a lifelong Zeppelin fan but this was one of the most painful things I've ever watched....
Me too! 😂🤣🤣
It was beautiful!! They loved playing together!!
@@mtnvalley9298 I don't think so... John Paul Jones and Page looked at Neil Young like he was out of his mind and just stood out of his way and basically let him make an ass of himself. At least that's the impression I got watching this I could be wrong but that's just my opinion
@@robertmarszalek1978 They all disagreed with you, but of course, your opinion should count for something eyeroll
Jonesie in the background keeping it all together. Golden!
Plant: I don't normally play guitar, but I'm gonna show you how to do it, Neil. 😁
You fools do not understand Neil takes this song to another dimension. Just feel it! That is what rock is all about.
Now I know why John Paul Jones is actually one of the true musician in the Rock.
Thank you to the members of led Zeppelin. Awesome. And you tube. Great band.
Neil Young like the drunk uncle at a xmas party lol
Bahahahaha. Sooo much so. Gotta love him.
@@garywhitaker9854No.
That's what happens when you spend too much time down by the river, playin' around with that cinnamon girl.
The crazy uncle who really knows how to make a guitar sing
Where was the chord change they just kept playing the same thing over and over!! Where was the break?? 😳
Neil Young looks like he is trying to start a chainsaw.
Bass Demon Horrible rendition of a great song. I could've never seen this and be fine
@@jimlamanna9712 Parts of it are ok but it's a bit rough and sounds under rehearsed, they probably did a quick rehearsal before the show.
He's really getting into it. Not often I've seen him rocking out like that.
@@jimlamanna9712 Yeah, great lineup, great song, horrible take. It happens...
Levee really needs to be the original. To do it justice. Rnr!!
Les Paul, thanks for inventing this great powerful tool!
YEEEEEEESSSS!!! The electrical guitar, reverb, and multi tracking. LOVE me some Les Paul history.
To this day ,I still get chills from this ...
l can see they are having a great time playing rock and roll
Actually, it wasn't a Led Zeppelin song.... It was plagiarized, not that that makes any difference.
it is a cover you little bitch
2 of favorite heavy metal guitarists playing zeppelin together. Omg
I never tire watching Neil Young wrestling them notes out of his guitar! When Robert straps on a guitar and shoots Neil a conspiratorial, mischievous grin, egging Neil on into some righteous guitar weaving with Pagey and JPJ!
Neil young sucks on guitar made a bunch of stupid fucking noise please spare me

Having a stage full of legends does mean a legendary performance will ensue.
Why am I sitting here waiting for page to solo?
Right.. shit. Neil young and Robert plant and no page? I want to stab myself in the ear with a butter knife.
I thinkhe was trying too but let neil take his wrath out and put his shit spin on what is an otherwise amazing song
@@atheistmecca971 im sure this was planned
If he would of pulled out a harmonica it would of been get him the fuck out of here.
He's too busy laughing
I really dug this. Thanks otis
I was also sent by Otis hahaha!
Jimmy loved it.
Neil SUCKS
everybody knows this is nowhere, lets drink some beer!!!!
I just wish that I was there to see this live. Fantastic
Neil is playing that guitar like it’s a ship he’s trying to steer through a stormy sea. Wtf I love it and it freaks me out
JWC 1958 Really good Phenomenal performance with the great Neil Young rocking out with Zeppelin.
Rock on!!!
Let me get this straight...you got Jimmy frickin Page on stage, and Neil Young and Robert Plant are playing the solos......?
Neil Young is just terrible worst guitar tone worst guitar playing in the history of guitar that's why he's in the Hall of Fame
@@BoomerCovers He had his moments in the 70s where he was really good.
I like Neil but he should give Jimmy some space. After all it is his song.
@@BoomerCovers Lololol! Most of all he (Neil Young) can’t sing AT ALL! When he “sings” he sounds like a Siamese cat in SERIOUS heat! Lol! 😂🤣🤣😂😭!
@@Luvly2457 This video is just too funny, Neil... , Robert with a guitar, and jonesy wanting to get the hell out of there...holy shit!!! hahahaha
They all look like they’re having the time of their lives. Sad that they could never stay back together. Incredible musicians in a league all their own
John Paul Jones is in the pocket, enjoying Neil go off
Neil Young Born To Rock
Jimi page and Neil Young! Outstanding! And Robert plant holding his own on guitar! Big fan of all three!
The best rock live in the 90's!
All my love for these guys 💙💙💙
All my love for Jimmy The best guitarist of all time 🎸❤️
Neil looks/sounds like he is having one hell of a good time!
Heather Zettlemoyer
Neil Young just has bags more energy, attitude and chops, even if it seems a bit sloppy, than others less than half his age.
Keep on rocking Neil, an absolute legend.
Neil was having one hell of a Great time! Yeah!
he looks possessed. i think he is out of his mind because the only thing he seems to be aware of is that it is them that he is playing with and it is overwhelming hahahahahaa it is too funny
Neil just fucking rocks out all the time.LOL
always!
I cant take Robert seriously with that guitar.
LedSabbathQueenie quite the name there. guessing your three favorite bands
Julio Perez Yes. Also The Beatles are my favourite but I couldnt think of another name.
LedSabbathQueenie led zeppelin take the cake for my absolute favorite band but black sabbath is a close 3rd behind Pink Floyd
I can't take bobplant seriously as a vocalist...makes geddy lee look like a lead singer sorta kinda in a sense
"How do I make this guitar go babaybabababybababybaaaaaaaaaybaayyyyy"
They're all the coolest grandparents anyone can have.
28 years later I am still impressed
Мама , Миа!! Но любимые ребята сами получают удовольствие... улыбаются благородно.. А Роберт больше всех веселится!!Браво!!!❤

That's was a aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa chord
I've never seen this before, and it totally made this snowy day better. It's nice to see that even Jimmy Page and Robert Plant can be infected by Neil's vibe. Thank you, sir.
also love how jimmy keeps trying to take a solo but Neil just keeps playing
Jimmy was happy to play his part. He showed what a gentleman he is and let Neil jam.
LMFAO🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just keeps venting, not playing.
Yeah i don’t xD
Jimmie doesn't have anything to prove. Neil did something one of a kind. Robert had fun. Jimmie liked watching everybody have fun.
It’s another legendary song.❤
Wow, that takes me back to the day
...of Live Aid.
This is fun...for them..for us rock listeners...improv at its best❤❤❤
Neil in the pocket. Legend with his bro’s. Outstanding.
This only validates why Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers were voted in before them!
exactly my point!
The point here. Zeppelin can do this because they are one of the biggest rnr bands in history. They dont care and shouldnt you.
Frodo Lives who?
Sounds like guitar center on a Saturday....
I love this performance! Your comment is hilarious though. How did your brain even worked in a way to call these guys that, is way... crazy.
Haaaa..Spot On
Young fucked up a great Zeppelin Song. Why did he decide to start off a song he's never heard? He can;t even keep a rhythm. Damn Canadian.
Fucking A right!!!
Shitty guitar? Please do elaborate on what is shitty about Neil's guitar playing?
It's not about impressing those on the floor, ok?
This is what jam sessions look like...hours and hours....into the morning.
I'm shaking my head at how many here making comments don't "get it" and...honestly,,,
they never will.
