This video is underrated. This is the only video I have found that clearly and correctly describes the differences between each plant and why there is so much confusion. So thank you !

I've been wanting to buy a Monstera Deliciosa, but all the plants I see labelled that way at nurseries are about $40 and up for a pretty small plant. But today my local grocery store had a medium sized "Philodendron Monstera" for only $15. Now I know from your video I got a really good deal on a Monstera Deliciosa.

I got a pretty bug one (with fenestrations but also plain plants so I’m assuming the more mature leaves must be from the propagation) for $21! I could not believe it I felt I was cheating when I was paying for it! 🤣 looking at this plant makes me smile every day!

LARISSA! As a result of all of the mislabling, which you mentioned in your video, I googled the difference between these two plants..... Only to find more contradicting information. I stumbled across your video, which is not only funny, but the most detailed answer I've found. So, I agree with Lindsey: this video is so underrated. I logged into UA-cam, promptly liked your video, and followed your channel. Thank you!

I recently got a baby monstera and yes didn't look like a monstera. I thought I had mistakenly bought a split leaf philodendron. Now I know. Thank you for sharing 😊😊😊

Omg this vid made me an instant subscriber, and also made me laugh out loud. I bought a plant labeled “Split leaf philodendron” but most of my research indicated Monstera. My text convo with my mom was practically a verbatim transcript of the first 20 seconds of this video 😂
I was shocked to see you don’t have more subscribers. Good work, lady! And THANK YOU!

Thank you so so much! I got a monstera deliciosa that looked so sad on clearance. It was totally fine once I brought it home and gave it a little care. I thought for sure that's what it was until I found the little tag in the pot saying philodendron with a completely different photo, then I was majorly confused. This video helped a lot!

I am just getting back into really getting invested into my house plants again I’ve always had some. Just the basics couple of philodendron’s couple of spider plants, Christmas cactuses, etc. but since I’ve been researching, I’ve now learned the difference between Thanksgiving Christmas and Easter cactus! And I also almost brought a Monstera today, but I didn’t think it looked like one and thought it was mislabeled and now I know why! This video has been fantastic!

Thank you so much. I have all three of the sizes of Monstera Deliciosa that you have shown. I just got them shipped and they are amazing plants. I got a larger juvenile shipped to me, and the seller claimed it was a split leaf philodendron. I sent a photo of it to a monstera guy, and he said that it was a monstera deliciosa. It looks nothing like a split leaf philodendron. I have done a ton of research about the difference, and the amount of people calling monstera deliciosa a split leaf philodendron is a shock. I love your plant videos.

Late to the party on this...but I love that you tackled this subject. I go nuts when I hear things mislabeled...especially when it's me that's doing it! And I *still* don't have an explanation for my vining what I *think* is a philodendron, that gets split leaves, but isn't a monstera for sure. Google may fail me but this was helpful - and entertaining! 🙂

The plant on the table in front of her is a rhaphidaphora tetrasperma, the monstera deliciosa used to be originally borsigiana. The marketing strategy of many nurseries etc are to rename the plants using either a different common name or their original classification to make people think they are getting a different plant. Unless the plant is trademarked etc any nursery can give it a new name and sell it under that new name. That is very common with the pink syngoniums.

I always recognized the leaves to be different. I couldn't mistake an adonsonii for a deliciosa, even if I wasn't into plants. And the "mini monstera" is clearly different from the deliciosa. But thanks for the vid, really helpful anyway.

Monsteras are my fave and I have delicioso and adonosaii, 5 total. Or so I thought. Turns out I have 6, because what I, like many others, thought was a variety of philodendron is actually a young monstera delisioso. I’m mean I must’ve bought this as an infant because it’s almost 2 years old and still no fennestrations. 😳 So thank you for this information; you have a new subscriber in me for sure!

Great video! However, I am more confused than ever 🤣😂… what I thought was a Monstera someone told me it was not, that it is a split leaf phill., but now I think my plant looks like that very mature monstera as well as that huge split leaf philodendron.

What i can tell, might only be for young monsteras, its the way the stems part, monsteras like to grow stems from below the soil, but philodendrons look like the stems are splitting from the mother stem, and at the bottom of each smaller stem you can see these thin sails, i don’t know if this is necessarily correct, but I hope it helps regardless.

@@LarissaVeloso-Planttubber I was just given a "non-splitting/fenestrating" plant that the previous owner insists was split leaf but after your (super helpful) video, I am thinking deliciosa. The approach to encouraging the split/fenestrtion will be different from what I am seeing!

@@Daacks11 Oh I see. The Monsteras have almost like a heart-shaped form when they're young, while the true Split Leaf Philo have more elongated leaves with some broken borders (if that makes sense lol). I'm currently on the hunt to find a Split Leaf Philodendron to show on camera, so stay tuned! =)

so because of mislabeling them, I, a plant newbie, bought a tetrasperma in stead of a monstera. But the funny thing is, the nursery that I came to, they labeled it as a spltleaf philodendron. Sad life.
