I took the jump with the Bigme since it's my first device of this kind. I don't know how much I'm actually going to use it yet, and I got the Bigme for £90 cheaper than the Boox. It just made the most sense to go with Bigme for my first device and I can always upgrade if I find I use it a tonne. Would love to see more non-Chinese companies start to compete in the realm of e ink android tablets. Not that there is anything wrong with Chinese tech, my phone is a Xiaomi and I love it, but it'd be cool to see what companies providing a product for a different market would do with this kind of device as well.

I've really enjoyed mine. It's more of an all-purpose kind of critter. If the native notes software starts to bug you, Bigme plays very nice with third party notes apps
Jnote's a good one that allows you to take pictures directly into notes. I think comparing the two devices is sort of like comparing a small show ring Arabian horse with a mustang that you can take anywhere.

6:00 the s6 doesn't like when you change the launcher (default home app). If you also expose the home button it will open your launcher then shortly the default.
Workaround is to map the launcher to the navigation ball (9max shortcuts), or get used to the timing and tap screen before the default kicks in.
if you stop the xlauncher, the notes and access to settings break until rebooted
If you wanna expose the nav bar, apps like Navigation Bar - Anywhere can be handy. You'll can expose the notification tray and see the xlauncher is persistent.
I use simple ink launcher-haven't tried Nova launcher from hearing about gesture conflicts, but am Sesame like the nav ball for recent/frequent apps and easier access to the Android Settings

I'm glad I saw this and another vid of yours about Bigme. I had ordered one in the wee hours of this morning through Amazon. I was able to cancel my order. I ordered the Bigme B&W. I have the Boox Tab Mini C, and as of yet am not a fan. At least I noe see why people like page turn buttons. I'm used to sweeping on kindle, holding it in my R hand in bed as I lay on my R side; I'm used to swiping with my R thumb to turn the page. I can't get it to do that. Another thing I dislike is the feel of the screen. It's supposed to feel like paper. I find the feel of the screen uncomfortable. But then, I am sensitive to many things I touch.
I've found the Kindle Scribe premium pen to work very well on the Tab mini C, and I ordered one for it.
Finally, apart from size, do you have a favorite Boox? Do you prefer color vs B&W?

I got the Bigme in+ and found the ghosting to be a lot worse and a bit slower with navigation. Even though it has more ram too. I refunded and went to Boox uc.

The camera on the bigme plays so well with third party Note apps that it sort of tips the whole balance toward the S6c + for me. The software in those note apps really know how to make good use of the camera and they seem to get the most out of the 8mpx. And you can take pictures from right within a note. For me that's the whole point of having a handy sized eink, sunlight visible device for taking pictures and notes outside. Pictures aren't for high art, just documentation, and the sunlight visibility makes it a whole lot easier.

@@abanicosdevallartabybutron8038 squid, J notes, draw note, and xodo
The first three allow direct taking of pictures into a note if your device has a camera, which the S6s do.
Until very recently you could take pictures directly into a PDF you were altering on xodo but the last update killed any ability to import any picture at all into xodo.
That said it's a really good app for rearranging pages and doing all kinds of stuff with PDFs.. And on all my other devices you can still import pictures into it.

Thanks for the great videos! What are your thoughts on Onyx's/Boox's extreme lack of up to date security patches for Android as well as some of the weird/shady security/support issues? Really close to pulling the trigger on either the ultra or the mini but these things are really bugging me and not seeing many creators talk about it on here. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Not an expert but I've seen a few reviews about these issues. Chalid has spoken on it, My Deep Guide, and I saw a newer guy Aline Tech speak on them as well. I think it ultimately depends on how you want to use the devices. They speak on it but ultimately some still choose to still use boox as the primary. For me I mostly just want a color e-reader 🤷🏽. I won't be running a business or checking my back accounts ect... on the device. As such I am not as concerned about the security issues. Big brother is always watching 😂 but there is not much to see here. Nor have I seen much about the lack of software updates impacting how the device works such as them slowing down.

    • @ricarmig
      @ricarmig Рік тому

I think you can either think too much about it or forget about it. I don't imagine a company like this to do too much "big brother", don't forget most devices are made in China and a part of the drivers and software is being made there as well... also a lot of apps are developed outside the EU and North America, so who knows what's going on...
I have the tab ultra and it's great (with some flaws, the biggest is the default launcher)

Took som eexperimenting with mine, but: The full refresh frequency should be set to 1. That has to be set for each app, no matter the mode. For every 1 interaction (not including autorotate) to get rid of ghosting. So, if you set it to 2, it takes 2 interactions with touch to refresh fully. And so on. The longer I've used the one app without closing, the buggier the full refresh is. It's only a 3000mAh battery so they cut a lot....

Thank you for the complete review/comparison. My concern is about the reading app, especially Kindle: if Kindle developes a new version for a new Android update could I continue using the old app with Android 11 with new ebooks from Amazon?

It’s so interesting. For me, the screen of the bigme looks much better than the screen of the Boox. Yes, bigme don’t offer the automatic clearance of ghosting, but if the picture is actualised, the colours, contrast, brightness looks much better than the boox.

I would think the main advantage of the Mini C over the Ultra is the smaller size... increased portability. Important for me, as I use it always on the go (also to read books). But for productivity purposes, the Ultra is certainly better.

I heard that, in the video I recall watching the guy suggested it was basically _'wide open'_ to being hacked, as the last Android security patch it had received was dated back in something like 2014, or maybe it was earlier.

I want to buy it but I won’t until they find a solution for something that should have been solved right from the beginning.

@@p.c.h.6721 I agree, some even steer away from many e-ink devices because of all of the hype around Chinese spying, but with our _'Five Eyes Network'_ I think the Chinese might be the least of our worries. However, this brings up a good point... and thats that none of the big e-ink channels ever touched on security... and I think it is something we should start asking them to cover.

Agreed, I covered it with tape, but both have mic as well :/
They have speakers and backlight but a Supernote Nomad has none of these 3. If the Nomad gets split screen, then it'd be a contender for me.
I tried a Bluetooth speaker but the delay was annoying, might try again before returning.
