I got my A5X because of this channel. Glad I did, too, because the continued support and updates to the Supernote are second-to-know. Appreciate you, Kit, or doing all you do for enthusiasts and professionals alike. If ever I need to replace my A5X, best believe yours is the only channel I'm visiting to see if there are changes I should make before getting another e-ink screen.

I think its really straightforward. Supernote if you are primarily and mostly a writer.
Boox if you're a reader (wide format compatibility and any android library apps you might want).

Just one thing regarding the handwriting recognition (around min. 12:30): Boox also has automatic handwriting recognition as an option (it is in the settings in the Notes app to be switched on/off), which I think is a bit nicer than the way Supernote does it. SN asks you to decide on the spot whether the note(book) you're starting will have handwriting recognition (then it does it in the background automatically), but as far as I understood you cannot switch back and have the handwriting recognized if you decide to do so afterwards, so you're stuck with that decision. Boox on the other hand does not corner you in that way and alway leaves the option to recognize handwriting whenever you like and even search everything no matter whether it was recognized/converted before.
I really like your videos - if I can offer one suggestion - could you consider leaving in some pauses where you're not speaking for a couple seconds? You give us so much detailed information, and it's helpful to have pauses after larger points so we get a chance to absorb that before moving on.
Thanks for this, pacing of my videos is certainly something that I am trying to get right. I know that they sometimes end up being a little breathless. I need to get the balance right between respecting my audience's time and also giving the right emphasis and as you say, absorption time.
i like condensed and often listen to tech content at 2x but perhaps to give others a chance you might repeat the most important point after a section in one short sentence
I got the Tab Mini C. It barely fits in my the cargo pocket on my work pants. Any bigger and the pen wouldn't fit.
I also have Chrome and Discord on it and it handles them just fine. It's primarily used for note taking and writing but the fact that it can run those without issue means I can lighten my travel load when I'm working conventions. It's far easier for me to bring a charge kit and the tab mini c in my pocket than my full laptop bag.

I use Libby to borrow library books. It has a feature to send the book to the Kindle app. Other eReading apps probably have the same function but I haven’t tried those apps since Libby has what I want. I chose the Supernote because I wasn’t worried about downloading reading apps and it has so many other pros.
That's cool! Yeah, if I were to choose just one android reading app it would be Kindle! Certainly the note taking features are truly excellent on the supernote.
it's tough because while I like the Nomad I just got, the sense that it's capable of more yet artificially limited by its software is hard to ignore. for example, AFAICT the Boox e-ink writing devices are the only ones that let you meaningfully mix text and writing/drawn content on the same note. they're also the only ones that include the ability to draw/drag shapes, for those of us who want to make diagrams but are possessed of about 1/20th the illustration skill you demonstrated in this video ;) the Boox devices having access to the Play Store is also huge for permitting use of applications that you can't really sideload into the Nomad (thinking of things like Outlook here). I'm drawn to the industrial design of the Nomad but it feels like Boox knocks the competition out of the park with their feature set. argh.
I would kill for a supernote with a front light - even though it seems they never will.
Anyone knows if a Boox Tab Mini (monochrome) is expected? This would be the sweetspot for me....
My Boox tab mini c stopped functioning after 3 months. Frozen screen, and unable to factory reset. Backlight works and I am able to access files if connected via usb. Random. Just sent it out for repair. They stated they will not cover if the device was water damaged. It's never been near water but I've heard others who stated the same and was never covered. I am worried as I have heard others having issues with boox. And I am in Canada. I will reply to this message on what they have determined the root cause

@@smaao I asked for an update, and then mentioned they would need to replace the motherboard. They were waiting for the motherboard to be shipped. They were hoping to have it by end of last week. Haven't got an update since the 15th.

I'm from UK and I have to get it shipped from US, I shudder at the delivery fees to get it fixed so got the kobo libra colour.
i’m always confused when I see the SuperNote being compared with an android tablet. To me they fundamentally different devices.
Boox devices are competitors of other tablets, like Samsung and Ipad. it is for a person who wants a tablet with an Eink display.
Supernote to me is not a tablet. It is the digital version to the analog paper notebook. Not for people who like the type, which is why I am OK with the typing experience not being the greatest. I didn’t buy supernote to type on it. I bought a supernote to write on it. I in fact would like for them to improve the UI to eliminate some of the mandatory typing, like naming of notes, and folders. I would like to handwrite.
I’ll stick with Supernote as long as Ratta maintain the For people who write design philosophy.
Agreed, this a fascinating discussion and I hope that I made it clear that for many people there is room in their life for both of the devices. I am currently daily driving the A6 X2 and I am buzzing on it.

Yeah, I agree. I think there will be a simple app store from them at some point in the future. Luckily for now the Boox devices are brilliant!
How’s the reading and pdf management on a6x2, is it better than on BOOX? Also, do you think I should peek Supernote because of sustainability and the fact that they support their devices for decades?

A6x2 for the win. I dont want a android experience, just good notes ,reading DRM free epubs, and best of all a decent drawing app with a good eraser for cutting in edges. Only issue is i can only get it from the US with £40 delivery and tax/duties on top, so its just shy of £600 as I'm based in the UK. The EU store doesnt allow you to ship to the UK as i found out in the shop. Weird!
I believe the best option is still coming in from the EU shop. Once you go through to the check out the EU tax comes off and the UK tax goes on. (Who voted for this nonsense! Lols.)

dude use a product forwarder from us, there are companies that charge small fee to forward parcels and can mark cost of item down so you don't have to pay import tax

Could you please comment on pen nibs tips durability and how often you have to replace them in Boox tablets?, I like the appeal of ceramic tips on Supernote and repairability, but Boox is more versatile with having Android which fits my personal use case
Is the A6X2 big enough for a professional person taking notes in meetings? Or is it better to wait until the A5X2 is released?
I'm asking myself this a lot. I'm currently getting on really well with the A6 X2, but I think that I will LOVE the A5 X2 when that comes along.
I think it is too small. I have a Boox Nova 3 Color and probably going to choose the Note Air 3 (Monochrome), but Supernote seems to be very attractive.
But having an Android device and being an Android developer who has plans of creating an own note taking application, I should go for the Boox.
The Boox note taking application is nice, but I have no overview; I have a lot of notes and I just can't structurize it. It seems that being able to create a content section in Supernote is a better approach to quickly switch to sections.
I need something like (projects///meeting-notes. How do you handle this?

If they god rid of the bezels around the mini c's screen it might make it the perfect notepad replacement.

Do you think that the Supernote A6X2 would be big enough if the main use case is language learning, more precisely Japanese? At the moment, I'm practicing writing a lot because I want to obtain an official language certificate in July. So, I need the device soon. I already know that a Remarkable or a Boox device would not be for me. I really want a Supernote device. However, I actually want the A5X2 but unfortunately, it hasn't launched yet. :(
I would also like to use the device for annotations of scientific papers, for journaling and for the creation of to-do-lists.
Since a bigger solution is not available yet, I just ordered a Kindle Scribe today because it is on sale in my country (Germany) right now. I hope that the Kindle is capable of bridge the time until bigger Supernote devices launch...
I think that's sensible for you. The Kindle is good value and you'll have a good simple experience!

Not really. Mine still looks pretty good. I'm sure you could scuff it if you went after it with sand paper for example!

I was looking at the A6X2, but I can't figure out if I can save my notes as a pdf. Converting to text isn't helpful when there are diagrams and doodles and such interspersed. Also, it would be nice if it saved the recognized text with the handwriting in the pdf so that I could search it. It is really hard to tell if it has the features that I want without buying one. It seems that this would be an obvious use case, but I can't find any reference to it in their support pages.
I have an A5X and I turn my handwritten notes to PDF all the time, then I email them out of upload to Google Drive. I also occasionally use the text recognition to make a word doc.
Yeah, as the reply says you can do both. So export PDF for the drawings and export doc or txt for the words. 🙂
