Bigme continues its push with unacceptable levels of interference. Quote from today's email from them: "The new firmware has been repleased, could you please post a update review video as soon as possible within a week with the latest firmware ? " I honestly don't think they even understand what professional boundaries and respect mean. At this point, I am a mm away from just sending the unit back to them.
Yaisus. And you actually ended the video on a very positive note. Please don't send it back. Companies which handle themselves in this manner need to be called out by serious reviewers like you.
Voja, I appreciate that you give companies the opportunity to respond to your review before you release it. That’s kind of you. I also appreciate that you share their response. That’s helpful for us potential customers. I hope that Bigme realizes that critical reviews can help them improve their product. I hope that Bigme’s response won’t adversely impact the kindness you extend to the subjects of your reviews.
I think that part of the problem is that, up to now, their interaction has been primarily with Good e-reader.. And let's face it, they've been in each other's pockets for so long that they may need to learn how to interact with a truly fair and independent voice.
13:15 I've had a very similar problem on my Boox Note Air 2 Plus. It initially looked like the screen had a little bump but it was more like one corner was slightly bent. If I placed the device on a flat surface screen down it could wobble. Luckily I bought it from Amazon; I got a replacement and now it's perfect.
37:32 Wow Bigme's behaviour is really childish IMO. Don't send a review unit that has ghosting problems compared to other similar devices and expect reviewers not to talk about it. By the way, to me it looks like a cheap Boox knockoff. The UX looks very similar to Boox's but even less inconsistent. At least Boox has a decent build quality and lack of major ghosting when they integrate the GPU. Here we also have a bad pen holder and warming issues. Also what's the need for a front facing camera on a e-ink device?
Good grief. Kudos for being so professional. I get that a software update can improve things - but if it is such a good update then why on earth did they ship the device without it? That also says a lot about BigMe.
Something I feel like Bigme does not understand is that you'll probably review the device whether they send you a review unit or not, because your audience is curious about it. Alienating you by trying to be too heavy handed will not limit the reach your reviews have, and trying to silence you isn't doing them favors. You don't live in a place where your voice can be censored.
So strange of Bigme to try to limit your video. Didn't they realised how bad that would make them look? To ask you to mention the update, and the changes this is supposed to bring, is in my opinion OK, and good. And something of interest for anyone watching. But to ask you not to show how the device perform today in comparison with other similar units are just crazy. Thank you for always keeping it honest, no matter what.
Really, really love your reviews. Thank you for making them as thouroughly as you do. Would you consider doing a review on the TCL Nxtpaper 11 and/or TCL Nxtpaper 12 Pro? It's not exactly an e-ink screen, but it does market itself as something similar. I wonder how it really holds up in terms of functionality when compared to an e-ink screen. In particular I am curious about the strain on the eyes and how it holds up in daylight / direct sunlight.
i disagree with you regarding the cameras.. I think there are some valuable uses of a camera on the rear along with a flash. I would like to see if live transcribe would work on it and the how quickly it works. I would also like to see demo of Google Gemini on it and also the Chatgpt working with it.
Thank you for your detailed report. With that you help me and other interested parties a lot. I would have wished for better performace, but when the new device was presented and not after the 3,4 or 5 updates. Thanks keep it up and staz healthy
Company asks you to review their device. You review the device. Company sais you are unfair because the device is not finished yet. A bakery wouldn't send you a lump of dough wanting you to review the bread. Bigme, big ego bad temper.
I wish Galy 3 got more love. I might be alone, but for my use case: writing and reading color pdfs, refresh rate is not an issue and the colors and lighter background are totally worth it
Had massive headaches with this device until an update and several resets. But now, as long as I limited strictly to being a reading device. Behaves just fine.
I always like your detailed and unbiased analysis of e-ink devices. Does the BigMe s6 color have an option to show the last active screen when it sleeps?
Yes by changing the Screensaver to Transparent Other options - the default Bigme logo - a photo of your choosing - a page with time and a small calendar
The first Bigme review I saw was of their Galy, and I was not impressed because of the refresh rate and UI issues. But I still respected them because I heard that they had other decent products. After this review, though, honestly, I've lost my respect for them. I recall in a review of the Bigme Galy by Chalid Raqami he said that Bigme did not want to provide him a unit for review because they were "still working on it" ... even though they had already released it for sale to the public. And now this. They need to get it together.
Seems that you didn't get the recent update from a couple of days back, since they rearranged the refresh modes and improved ghosting significantly. (At least on inknote)
The rear camera is really useful especially when using third party apps that allow you to take a picture directly into the note without going through the fuss of, leaving the note app, taking a picture, going back into the note app, dropping the picture in. This is not a sitting at your desk device. This is a stick it in your bag and head out to the field device. It's far from perfect. But it's perfect for my use case and it's the first time I found a device like this. So I periodically give the Bigme guys heck about stuff but there's always an S6 of some flavor in my bag. They do need to learn to respect the independence of independent reviewers. Have been able to group icons on mine simply by dragging one directly on top of another and then you can rename the group and then you can add to the group by holding on a given icon until it allows you to add it. But, you're right there's no custom rearranging of icons ..which is kind of annoying.
Hi Voja, which device do you consider the best PDF reader? I have a remarkable 2, but not happy with the zoom capabilities, many PDFs are difficult to read without strong glaasses 🙂
What a disaster, still, as I want an e-ink to compliment my Supernote with a decent web browser and Google Play for a Bible App, I'm considering the *_Bigme 7inch B751_* as its under £200. However, after watching this I do have some concerns about signing-in to Google Play.
Actually you could even sue BigMe IF still insists to influence your review AND the company had a seat in your country… For real. That’s an unfair competition practice in its purest form. 😅
So assumption from bigme team that selling user the product without critical update is OK but making a review and comparison to other product is NOT OK, and it's unfair. Pfffff. It's so off-putting. Also that they pushed you to the point that you didn't show the comparison is even more concerning about their company. Sorry for the language, but they really needs to get THEIR SHIT together before releasing the product to the mainstream. I'm NOT a fan of companies pushing to ADJUST your unbiased review only because they cannot deliver on time. Voja everybody knows that your primary goal was always to deliver the most objective review as possible. I also understand that it's your best interest to have a good relationship with them. But who f**ed up here? You or they ? Of course the answer, It's obvious. I understand that it's not easy and market for this device is small, however please don't incline towards manipulation like that in the future.
Thank you for the vote of confidence, but it's not about me building a good relationship with them. As far as I am concerned, they need to build a good relationship with me, if they want to see their products covered on MDG. This was about me disarming them completely in one go/video, once I saw what they are trying to pull. They complain, ok, list your complaints, I'll address them, and after that, there's no more complaining, there's no more anything. Only their product will speak, as it should be. It's a useful lesson for me :)
I am disappointed that you wouldn't be allowed to compare these devices. And tbh, I am also a little disappointed that you didn't show the comparison. The point is that it must be possible to compare devices in the state they are right now. You won't review possible future improvements. I also don't compare myself with my future wealth. Or my future super model wife. A wealth (and wife) that maybe will never materialize itself. 😉 Onyx didn't tell you, you have to wait for an update, too. It's all a little bit fishy. It would be the better option to have waited until you had no 'restrictions' for a first look.
Oh, but it will be shown, just not in this video, no worries ;) The footage is there, and the original will be shown, as well as the comparison after the update, so that we can see how it actually compares, and also, what is the result of their hard work, and if all of this was worth it for them or not.
OMG can't believe Bigme tried to interfere with review objectivity/authenticity, a massive faux pas I'd say. I feel really embarrassed for them!

Thank you very much :)

I feel that they have deeply miscalculated certain things.
Thanks for the review Voja! Looking forward to the in depth review for both this and the Galy

Was very sceptical of Bigme devices previously. But after this I am pretty sure don’t want to have anything in common with that company… Absurd!

This has been very clearly addressed in the video.
@@MyDeepGuide yep, I know but I wrote the comment before watching to the end 😂
Well alrighty then :)
is color plus better than non-color one?
Thanks for detailed review!
Can it be used for cell calls?
No, it can't.
Thank you@@MyDeepGuide

Why do people dislike cameras on eink devices? Brilliant for students and journalling. Can take photos of graphs etc and add them to your notes ❤❤❤❤
Because of privacy, ergonomics and battery consumption issues.
Guess what the S stands for 😂
