I am a Professional Clubfitter, as well as a Fujikura Charter Dealer, and I have had a chance to hit and play both versions of the Ventus Blue shafts. I got a TM SIM Max D driver about 15 months ago and played it with the TM stock (non-Velocore) shaft for a few months before I replaced it with one of my favorite (non-Fujikura) shafts and played about 30-35 rounds with that driver before selling it. I now have a Sim2 Max driver and have been experimenting with the aftermarket Ventus Blue 6S and 7S shafts with Velocore. The difference in strike and ball dispersion consistency is absolutely remarkable! Buy the way, I still have the TM stock (non-Velocore) Ventus shaft because the guy I sold the Sim Max D driver to did not want that shaft in it. I haven’t done so yet, but I plan to do a side-by-side comparison on the launch monitor to see how dramatic the differences in performance truly are. The question is: Will the Sim2 Max driver be able to beat my Tour Edge Exotics C721 driver with a Ventus Blue shaft with Velocore installed in it?

Go back and look at your testing of Ventus red, blue, and black. Same results you had today. Ian even commented that you were wearing the middle out. I remember it vividly because I want that Ventus Blue.
Great video. I just got fit into the Ventus blue 7X last week and saw the same outcome with consistent strike pattern. Ian, my fitter Mike and Sellingers spoke high of you also. Keep up the great work guys.
I play the Ventus Blue (after market) R2 flex. Even with my slower swing speed I believe the tech is working for me. I was a believer after a couple of swings. Great investment for me.

I just got fitted for a Taylormade SIM Max with a Ventus Red shaft (stock). Seems to really suit my swing really well. Interesting to see you swing this combo so well, Matt. I had been thinking during your driver bracket that I was surprised SIM went down in the first round.
Chris fit me into Ventus Blue with my F9 last year and you can feel toe strikes that end up in the fairway due to the quality of the shaft...wasn't sure a shaft could be high MOI but I've seen it play out exactly that way
I really don't like companies that do this with their stock shafts, the Atmos range does it right in my opinion by completely changing the graphics. But rants over lol great video guys
Brilliant Excellent. 👍👍👍👍👍👍 I wish more people would watch this video and understand the difference between stock and after market shafts well done guys 👍👍👍👍
Great video as ever gents, I did this test myself earlier this year and had the same findings. Curiously i also found the cpm of the non velocore shaft was higher than the velocore shaft in the same flex almost as if they made the standard version stiffer to attempt to mimic the velocore materials. That was comparing a blue 6s velocore to a 6s standard. The standard was good but the velocore was just plain awesome and for me a real game changer. Thanks
Thx- I got fit ( hit about 25 shafts ) the Velcro Black - S was good margin best for ball speed etc . I put on a Taylor Made M5. Longest , straightest . Was told hand made ! I looked at 3- wood TM with stock ( blue ) g
There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that aftermarket shafts are far superior and can totally transform a golf club. If you're prepared to pay the extra cash you won't be disappointed. Enjoyed the vid, great work as always guys!⛳🏌️👍🏼
As always, good honest knowledgeable testing once again shows, marketing isn’t reality. With the cost of clubs so high these days it’s even more important to understand what we are paying for! Sensational as always, thanks boys.
Great video. This can be a thread for you guys to explore between older and newer shafts. For example, I was fitted a number of years back for the widely popular UST Proforce V2 shaft. Because the company has not changed their adapter design, I have been able to maintain using it in my hybrid, 3-wood and driver despite updating the head. I have been a little more exploratory with my driver, but will often go back to it when as Matt says “the need to go on autopilot mode.” While I was fitted with the newer shaft, and have the potential for greater numbers, it just seems that I have molded my swing to this shaft, and therefore get greater consistency. In any event, consistency strike, irrespective of tech, still rules. It is amazing to think that can be technologically improved upon.
A fitter many years ago opened my eyes to stock store bought shafts , he showed me many examples all brands pulled from drivers against the same aftermarket shaft and most were twice as thick in the wall structure , and clearly they don’t play the same , but it’s really this simple ,if a driver costs say 550 $ , your not getting a 500-700 $ aftermarket shaft in it are you . My initial problem was spraying it both ways with what felt like the same swings , the real shaft straightened it up .
I got my self m5 in lock down at great price with a atmos black shaft. I have cobra f9 with a atmos ts black which I fitted for. The shafts are night and day.
I have a oban devotion stiff tipped 1'inch in my ping G15 driver to me it's the best feeling driver I've ever had which in turn love to get it out the bag on every hole if I could, fills me with confidence but was then told by a ping fitter in the uk it was the wrong shaft I said well I can hit draws and fades and feels brilliant to me.
Another great video…..I just recently hit in 2 different occasions 2 premium shafts that my friends had in their driver…..I’m becoming a believer that the $$ cost is well worth
Matty hammered those!!! Put it in the bag! Did Matty's swing change? Looks like he got the club alittle more horizontal at the top of his backswing than in some previous videos I watched. Great info guys..... thanks!!!!
I was fitted with a Velco at Club Champions; interesting in that produced about 5 more MPH (105 up to 109 ) so ball speed was faster. I got fitted to the Black which is lowest flight. I was surprised as I hit low drive typically. Was $350, then spun it , put tip on fitting and shipping was +$600. Very consistent and longest. My local pro toured the factory; shafts are Hand Made. Good materials so pricey.
Seriously good ‘definitive " video chaps.... love this.... going for driver, 3 wood rescue fitting tomorrow. I’ll be chatting about this shaft option. Thanks lads 👊🏻💪
It's funny, I finally committed to getting an aftermarket shaft, and after something like 11 different shafts (including Ventus TR Blue) ended up trying the Black 6x. My first four shots - and reaction - were exactly the same as Matt's. It's unreal how good the grouping was, and how well the strikes clustered in the middle of the clubface. Just that alone makes it worth the price of admission.
This actually makes sense. I demoed a few new drivers with the stock shafts ok results. Then they out my aldilia aftermarket shaft and it was tighter strike and better dispersion
I think it’s been a while now that we’ve known about made for shafts compared to Oem shafts of the same brand , it’s pretty obvious if a driver is say 500$ with a particular shaft and the aftermarket shaft is 600-700 $ the manufacturer isn’t giving away the driver for nothing , your getting a watered down version probably around half the wall thickness and will play nothing like the real shaft . Excellent boys another great vid .
The car analogy is interesting in terms of swing speed. At what swing speed does this have an impact? For a slower swing speed is there less difference/benefit? Be an interesting one to look at. Very interesting 👍🏻
I have the stock non-Velocore Ventus shafts in two TM SIM Max clubs ... a driver plus a 19* hybrid, and I played them for about three weeks prior to the COVID-19 golf course shutdowns, and for close to a month since area courses have reopened. I finally had to take both of these shafts out of play because I had far too many extreme left misses using them (I am a right-handed golfer, and a left miss is my nemesis). I have hit the aftermarket Ventus Blue driver shaft, and didn't experience any bad left misses with it. Actually, the aftermarket Ventus Black would probably be a better fit for my swing, since my current preferred driver shaft is the PX HZRDUS Smoke Yellow, which is almost an anti-left shaft for me. Conversely, I have a golfing buddy who is a smooth swinger and who doesn't come into the ball from the inside the way that I do, and he absolutely loves the stock TM Ventus shafts. He has even had me install one of those shafts in his Titleist driver, and I am just waiting for a couple of PXG adapters to arrive so that I can put non-Velocore Ventus shafts in his hybrids.
I would love to see this with Ian putting some fitting magic in the stock shaft...What would the stock shaft play like if it was tipped a bit and built for someone?
By the way - The TM stock (non-Velocore), as well as the made-for Tour Edge Exotics Ventus shafts are of decent quality, and they work well for many average golfers, as long as you get the correct version of those made-for shafts ... AND DON’T PLAY THEM AT THE CRAZY-LONG 45.5” TO 45.75” LENGTHS THAT THE OEMS BUILD THEIR DRIVERS TO WITH THOSE SHAFTS! For a slower-swinging non-aggressive tempo golfer who can control the driver and hit the ball on or near the sweet spot, the OEM Ventus shafts have shown some very good results with golfers that I have fitted. However, if you put a hard-swinging, aggressive tempo golfer in a driver with the non-Velocore Ventus shaft, you can get some distastrous results.
I got the oem Ventus on ebay, thinking it was the aftermarket, but I'm glad the difference is not so big. Will try it over the weekend, I am replacing a Fujikura Pro73.
Thanks for the usual super analysis. I am going to try the VeloCore version next week. Must admit that my expectations are a little high now but I'm going to go into the fitting with an open mind. The TXG stand bags look awesome! Hopefully one day they'll appear in the online store so we can all represent the brand.
Whats the basic difference in stiffness between velicore and stock in the same designation i.e. stiff vs stiff. Half a flex ? Or is it so different that profiles are worlds apart.
Great video. I had apparently not seen it. Sold my "older" hybrid to my mate who needed it more than I. I excitedly bought a hybrid with the Ventus blue so how wrong can it go. ... grabbed it, paid and took off. yeah ... It was a stiff shaft but felt a wee soft and the ball landed within the distance I wanted but leaked left and right. Thought it was because was not used to the club. Then I saw something about the velcor and it struck me ... . D A. So club head is great. Shaft is not what I thought. And today ... this video popped up and laughed in my face ... when I saw the first drives from Iron Byron. A great disappointment. And even more a disappointment because I have watched TXG and instead of hitting a few balls ... I grabbed it and took off.
Good stuff guys, I would like to see a bracket comp with shafts like you did with drivers. It can be all aftermarket shafts or better yet early graphite shafts verses current shafts.
Excellent breakdown of the difference between these two shafts. Deceptive marketing by TM, but honestly ~95% of SIM buyers are probably better fit for the stock version. Not too many of us are F-1 speed drivers of the ball like Matty!
Ive done this test myself and seen even larger differences but similar patterns... its night and day in my opinion the real ventus is whole heartily worth the upcharge fee
I play a shaft I don't think you have in store (the evenflow riptide) but the TX-version (small batch). And just comparing the same weight of the X and my I kept the great feeling or it but it was still so stable. Lower torque might have something to do with it but it just shows that if you wanna get a driver and dont change it, get a proper fit, spend the extra money and you will thank yourself in the future.
Another great Video. I loved your answer with cutting a stiff shaft. Tip it a bit and stiffen it a tad. ( if you are going to do this at all. I’m uncomfortable with shaft length past 44.5. And now these manufacturers are using 45.5 and 46 inches standard. I really wish they’d knock this off. 🤷🏻♂️
Clear the aftermarket shaft is more stable. I had driver consistency issues years ago in 2008/2009 when I first discovered custom fitting. The club builder put the FT5 in a vice and the whole head oscillated, completely unstable which fundamentally affected the strike pattern and consistency. Played an aftermarket Diamana Blueboard in an R9 for 10 years. From that perspective the substantial additional cost was worth the investment. If your chopping and changing clubs every other year then maybe not. Moral I think is, get fitted properly, make the investment, reap the rewards of added consistency in your game.
This proves what we've all expected. It's not center strikes, it's increasing the consistency of strikes on the face! With a small sample Matty proved that he would have cost himself a few strokes with the stock version. For a serious golfer who plays 50 rounds/yr on avg, it's 700 drives or so, of which a probably 50-75 drives would have worse outcomes in the year. Amortized across the few years you'll own the club (unless you're a Golfwrx member 😁) that's a small per driver premium. As Ian said, it WILL be reflected in your score
At what clubhead speed would this begin to make a significant difference? Would someone who swings 95-100 mph notice the same difference or would there be less deflection?
Sounds like Matty needs to retest SIM! That way Ian and Matt can play the same driver! This video is a great representation as to why upgraded shafts can be worth it for some!
I have been waiting soooo long to see someone do this test and you boys went and filmed it and smashed it. Awesome awesome awesome 👏👏

I just got fitted for a Taylormade SIM Max with a Ventus Red shaft (stock). Seems to really suit my swing really well.
Interesting to see you swing this combo so well, Matt. I had been thinking during your driver bracket that I was surprised SIM went down in the first round.
Sims a great driver.
You guys post A+ golf equipment videos. Love the content and Matt is a beast.
Chris fit me into Ventus Blue with my F9 last year and you can feel toe strikes that end up in the fairway due to the quality of the shaft...wasn't sure a shaft could be high MOI but I've seen it play out exactly that way
Showing all the shots gives a more rounded understanding of the results. Be great to see this on future videos.
So glad you did this, Sim marketing! Had a fitting for 3 wood, I was so surprised how the stock performed, chose another shaft.
Did you like the stock shaft?
Thanks a bunch for this one boys! Always wondered how this one would look!
One of your best videos here. Bravo.
Such a relevant topic. Thanks for revisiting this guys!
There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that aftermarket shafts are far superior and can totally transform a golf club. If you're prepared to pay the extra cash you won't be disappointed. Enjoyed the vid, great work as always guys!⛳🏌️👍🏼
Yeah. Hard to tel the wife I spent $800+ on a new driver....😬
Love your channel guys. Always fair, detailed and really watchable.
I am addicted to this channel....these videos are great. Have they ever talked about the shaft 'pure-ing' service offered by some fitters?
Any update on Dave peltz green reading thing he mentioned on the podcast? I know he said look for it end of May but I haven't seen anything.
Seriously good ‘definitive " video chaps.... love this.... going for driver, 3 wood rescue fitting tomorrow. I’ll be chatting about this shaft option. Thanks lads 👊🏻💪
Awesome video guys, very interesting to see the difference here. Got fit into the ventus blue velo 6x, absolutely love it.
Great video on the performance difference between the TM version ventus and velocore ventus. Guess I will be testing the velocore version next 😍
Depends on the OEM. Both Callaway (Aldilla Rogue) and Mizuno's (Diamana Limited Edition D+/S+) stock shaft offerings are the aftermarket version.
Interesting
I have a Ventus Blue 6X vellacore on my TS2 and love it finally got to see what the difference and the price markup is!
Oh wise ones Matt and Ian, please teach me the ways of the driver. The fairway seems to be a destination I can not reach without your help.😂
“It’s not the same shaft”
PREACH
Thanks for the usual super analysis. I am going to try the VeloCore version next week. Must admit that my expectations are a little high now but I'm going to go into the fitting with an open mind.
The TXG stand bags look awesome! Hopefully one day they'll appear in the online store so we can all represent the brand.
They're in the store now!! 👍
@@clubchampionmedia I'm ordering the black one today!
@@clubchampionmedia Just placed my order. Can't wait to get it!
Whats the basic difference in stiffness between velicore and stock in the same designation i.e. stiff vs stiff. Half a flex ? Or is it so different that profiles are worlds apart.
Would love to see a video on your opinion of puring shafts or finding the spine of the shaft and if it is necessary or beneficial
That is a very interesting video. I wonder if the contrast will be as big for a slower swing speed.
would spine alignment help the club flex and return more tightly into the same place each time, of have shafts moved on since those days
There goes my next shaft! Great video!!
I’m
Shocked! I didn’t even know there was 2 different versions of the Ventus. This was a really good demonstration! Thanks guys!
Good stuff guys,
I would like to see a bracket comp with shafts like you did with drivers.
SIM really has to be one of the best sounding drivers ever made.
Great vid! Matt kills the Blue version vice the Black. Get that combo up against Mavreeky.
Ugh literally needed this video a week ago 😭
Would love to see you and Mark Crossfield have a conversation on this Topic.
Sounds like Matty needs to retest SIM! That way Ian and Matt can play the same driver! This video is a great representation as to why upgraded shafts can be worth it for some!
🤣🤣🤣, I told him he’s not allowed!! In all seriousness he does hit SIM great.
Great review fellas......I definitely would splash out on an exotic shaft if I was minted😁
Is it even a txg video if Ian doesn’t start with a clap😅
👏🏻
@@ianfrasergolf Is this the first video where the progress bar shows the various segments within the video? Looks great, super helpful !
Great vid. Big thanks for this one.
