how does it make sense to ban lock knives, the lock feature is a safety feature right?
The way I was explained it was that the knife has a chance of folding in on itself if used as a weapon
Yeah, but a locking blade can be used as a stabbing weapon, where a folding blade would be dangerous to the wielder were it used to stab
Yea igs
The more you know.
@@peteg22397 that's bull shit.
Good informative video Andy, thanks for making it
Thank you very much :)
Excellent presentation. Got my Lansky in the US for under 13 bucks. Their ceramic sharpener has given it a sharper edge. Very pleased with this product although I usually only carry it camping as Scotland has nanny state attitudes towards blades.
A fantastic review and analysis Andy. Well done. UK knife law.....Sad, when i was a boy we did not have all this knife crime, all of us adventure scouts/military school and scout types, had a folding lock knife 4 inch or more, a good solid camp axe and intrenching tool. Carried it everywhere and never thought of breaking the law. Now i live in Aussie we are still on the common sense rule book and here in the bush where i live, the cops have the largest belt blades, lol. Cheers Moose.
Thanks Moose, Laws are always created for the lowest common denominator unfortunately but hey ho, do what we can :p
Thing is these laws are ridiculous since majority of knife crime is committed with the standard kitchen knives as they're easily accessible yet they've not exactly made them illegal but yet these types seem to be made illegal and the fact they've made locking knives illegal is mind boggling since the whole point of a locking knife is infact a safety feature compared to the non locking depending on the task you're doing the wrong amount of pressure you're going to either cut yourself or amputate fingers and they've made automatic and spring assisted knives illegal aswell even though the automatic and spring assisted are easier to use I got a DNA one for £8 and trying to open it is a nightmare as can't always grip it to open even though the finger grip bit is hollow
I live in England and it's fucked, 75% of the knife crime is kitchen knives yet they still limit this so much
Hi. I live in France and unfortunatly here it is illegal to carry or transport any knife without a justifiable reason. I.E. Hunting knife when hunting. fishing knife when fishing etc. Many people of my generation (56) do carry knives of course. But never take them out of the pocket in public, or be very discreet. The trouble is, non knife users see a knife and see a weapon, Most regular knife carryers just think of them as tools. Good health and stay safe.
this is exactly the problem.. the perception as a weapon, its not much different here, its a shame. thanks for watching
Apparently, France has even more little wienie snowflakes than we do in the US - they're afraid when you take out a knife to open something? WTH?? Are there testosterone destroying chemicals in the French water?
@@ArchangelChi If the intention of your comment is just to insult those with a bit more intelligence than yourself all you succeed in doing is showing your own limitations. Have a nice day.
Great comparison video well made 👍
I really liked the two or 3 knives that had the couple of other tools in them. Like a Swiss army knife.
Thanks for posting this video as been looking for a legal knife like the ones you have posted for a while and the price is right for me as well
Glad you liked the video buddy, thank you
Nice group of knives! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your video. It is quite informative. Greetings from the US.
Nice job Andy. Very informative as with all your vids. Thanks lad ! Slainte
Thank you :)
Thanks I’ve ordered one just now thanks to this upload as a bushcrafter myself i now know I’m covered by the law so thanks
Cool :) glad to help, thanks for watching Chris
I carry a victorinox classic sd on my key chain and an opinel no.5 in the watch pocket on my jeans. I used to carry the CRKT journeyer but I'm worried someone might consider it to be a lock knife.
yeah.. its on the edge isn't it, recently got my first opinel.. great for a camp kitchen knife
Great looking knives and a great review Andy.
Thanks Art :)
Very well done & thanks.
Somewhere, Jim Bowie is crying,,, just a little......
haha, thanks for watching
Great video as always ! Was wondering if you had upgraded anything on your truck ? Still waiting to see a push bar and winch . Lol . Like seeing the shots of it riding through the woods . Have a great one Andy and keep up the good work !
Hey, I havnt done any work yet but have a few jobs to do on it soon.. the winch may have to wait a little longer :(
I'm after a Bowie knife any recommendations. What's the best size 16" ? What's the best steel? I've seen some at £145-£175 I'll pay whatever for the right one.
Nice video Andy as always :) like that link to the Anglo Arms knife ,can see my credit card is coming out for items there ;)
haha, yeah, I know how you feel buddy :p Thanks for watching
Nice collection Andy, I've been wanting to try and make a legal carry folder with a scandi grind, might be a future video but I still can't go out without my Swiss army knife.
great idea, look forward to seeing that. Im looking at a bigger Swiss army knife at some point, only got the piddly one haha
Yea, I've got 3 of them, the big locking one is good but I find it's too big for my pocket and too small for any heavy work so I hardly use it.
Hey mate. Amazing reviews, sadly stumbled upon this vid 5 years too late. I'm absolutely in love with the HX OUTDOORS, however your link to the HX doesn't seem to work. Any tips on where I can purchase this?
Thanks so much.
Are single hand operated folding knives legal in the UK without needing a note from the state?
Thanks andy good video its a shame some idiots have ruined it for us all, total understand why we have the laws as i grew up in glasgow!
The Grizzly originally had a thumb stud which did not work at all, due to positioning. I bought another without the stud and now have both.
Nice video Andy.
Thanks mate :)
I’ve got a Lanksy but the Boker looks good👍
It is, both are pretty similar though, I actually borrowed that one from a friend, hadn't even heard of it before. great timing haha
nice detailed presentation brother. i guess knives are pretty much regulated everywhere nowadays. cheers bud!
Thanks buddy, yeah, its probably only going to get worse too unfortunately
Great video pal. You obviously know a fair bit regarding UK carry so as someone who fishes and shoots quite a bit and always has use for a knife would the Leatherman C33 be ok to carry? It has as far as I’m aware a 2.6” blade with a line lock system
t's "OK" to "carry" what you like. The reasons you stated (fishing and shooting) are reasonable grounds for having these tools on you or in your kit. No different to a chef having their own knives on them when going to and from work or a carpet fitter having a flooring knife or a tradesman having a Stanley knife in their toolbox. Besides, no one (ie the police) is hiding in the bushes or waiting outside a knife shop to suddenly pounce on people going about their daily business. That's my advice, go about your business and enjoy your life and freedom. Don't let fear or these rules govern you, govern yourself.
Nice one Andy I only have the Mora heavy duty companion 20 quid and its the best little thing ever.
Moras are great, I have the light my fire one, very handy.
Kent Survival aye good knife too the Mora tactical is it .
Nice one Andy, good to know what is legal to carry. I only own 3 knives and the smallest of them is my mora eldris or edris (Can't remember) but even though it is a small blade it is a fixed blade so isn't suitable for edc i think. Thanks for the info Andy. Atb Sconja 👍
no, its certainly not an EDC but if you have your reasons for carrying it (on the way to camp for example) you should be fine. Besides, id imagine there isn't as much knife crime down your way haha, thanks for watching mate
Ⓐ "THERE IS NO AUTHORITY BUT YOURSELF" Ⓐ
Unfortunately, that's not a defence, in the street, when you've just been cuffed and shoved into the back of a police van.
"Bastard Halibut" LOL I like a knife and just recently purchased the CRKT Liong Mai... once a rare knife... now back out with a Hennie Haynes logo... sharp, a bit heavy and not that great TBH but I sort of like it, I've Got the Anglo arm little Pen knife, great little knife for the dollar. cheers Andy. Lee
That knife looks nice mate, similar to the lansky but a more traditional profile. cheers for watching mate
I bought the Boker plus worldwide it's ridiculously stiff and and an accident waiting to happen. Its such a rig marole to just fold it back . Shame as it is so well made and has an excellent blade. It feels way too risky to use in the woods with cold fingers etc .
I'm looking to invest a bit more and keep my fingers . I like the look of the TBS Boar folding blade or similar if anyone has any suggestions ?
Is a part -serrated edge still legal?
Recommendations for UK legal fixed blade small knives? For fire starting/kindle splitting etc?
all fixed blades are technically illegal to carry, unless you have reasonable reasons.. i.e. camping (though thats for the law to decide haha) You can never go wrong with a mora for the price, companion or light my fire modes are good starters. They are not full tang but Ive always batoned with mine with no issues. I did do another knife video a while back comparing a couple. Thanks for watching
Kent Survival thank you. Obviously, I only have such things in my camping kit bag so it's not generally carried. I'll look at your earlier video 😁
plzzzz update this list👍(like sanrenmu)
Can I use these Knives for battoning
Im 12 i have an stilleto knife and its got a very lonb blade so if i get caught could i get arrested?
What about combat knifes like Rambo’s one from the film are you allowed to buy one as long as you are age above 18 and are not intending to stab anyone with it and are just going to use it for show at home
You can own any knife you want and you are allowed to carry it at the appropriate time ie. hunting knife or bushcraft knife when in the forest or hunting and so on.
Like your camping videos. Can you have locking blade knifes under 3 inches in the uk
No
The sanrenmu knives have been discontinued
For anyone that wanted to know
thats a shame :( thanks for the update
Nice video. Not living in the UK, this was very informative never the less. You do have to be sensitive to other people’s perceptions in your knife choice no matter where you live.
Thank you very much
Unless you're up to no good, perhaps other people should just mind their own business.
Great vid. I own plenty of legal edc knives but just as you say the lansky does scare people.
It certainly can look intimidating, thanks for watching buddy
Kent Survival please check out a channel called Theartofprepping. Lots of my knives are featured on there.
My EDC knife is a butter knife. When a slice of bread attacks you, you need a trusty tool to spread peanut butter on it.
good point
Some nice knives there, but I really liked the last one. Unremarkable, but just looks dependable.
You couldn’t be further from the truth, it’s Anglo Arms, the worst you can get 🤣🤣🤣
j00 ha, ha, ha! I’m sure I’ve had something worse! I went to my local hardware shop and bought one of each pocket knife they had... some real gems there!
Rough Rider slip joints are good cheap option
I think ive seen them on amazon, thanks :)
The CRKT is illegal in the UK due to the partially serrated edge. Get the non-serrated version.
Do you have a source for that? I can't find anything saying that serrations are illegal. As far as I can tell there's no problem with them.
@@lornelorne5727 You're right. Serrations seem to be fine.
I saw that Zombie knives with serrations were banned, so I mistakenly assumed all serrations were banned.
As long as you have a good reason to carry a serrated knife, I don't see why you cannot.
Cant find the lansky in stock anywhere :(
I did some research ans found that people have been told that, whilst legal, these first 2 knives are "more blade than you need" and have been bothered by the police...watch out.
No charges were made but still...
I don't trust this rumour that a non-locker, with a blade (or, is it "cutting edge"?) of less than 3.25 inches is legal to carry and we need not provide a reason for carrying it. If anybody has managed to prove this, on the street, I'd love to hear from them.
Won't go into too many details but I was arrested years ago for something unrelated and I was carrying my swiss army knife at the time (non locking blade under 3 inches). The police made no issues about it, asked no questions and gave it me back on release
The svord peasant knife for £18 ish is a really great blade for the money
Thanks, Ill check it out... not that I need any more knives lol
The normal peasant knife does not have a sub 3 inch blade. You'd have to get the mini peasant for sub 3 inch. However, both are superb value for money with a very capable blade
What is a lock I don’t see it closing by itself?
i dont understand. a lock is a mechanism that prevents a blade from closing when engaged and needs to be manually disengaged
sad, the ones I wanted to get have been discontinued.
Glad I found your video its great I collect knives Too and like you sec 139 complaint knives
Hi Clarky, thanks for watching buddy
I've collected quite a few knives over time.
You can't buy any knife under the age of 18 and you cannot carry any type of knife here in Australia.
With all of your beasties id want one there the most I think lol, thanks for watching buddy
Cool vid but in our town has a high profile on knife crime I wouldn't like to put any in my bug out bag for fear id be the one at the train station being checked
Thanks for watching, Crazy times, I wouldn't carry one at all times but I do often.
It is when I go out with my eldest camping ruffing it in a chosen wood I dread the train station cause I've carried a blade and an axe if I was stopped you know our law am going equip for a burglary or robbery or a terrorist taking parliament life now seems a bit draconian but that's life they protect us. I've been watching alot of alaska stuff out in the wild for real
What knife is the safest for my fingers? Great video btw
What do you mean?
Sam Lemke so that it doesn't close on my fingers..
@@yehoshuawildman If you're talking about UK legal you want a slip joint with a strong backspring and a finger choil. A finger choil makes it impossible for the blade to close on your fingers. The boker plus xs is a good choice, bit on the pricey side though.
Sam Lemke thanks for the help 👍
@@yehoshuawildman No worries, have a good one
once the knife is under 4inches and your not attracting the attention of the police or threatening anyone you can get away with a warning.....just dont walk around London or try to go to a pub/club or a large event with a knife and you will be fine.
I thought you had a Victorinox? Did I miss something?
Anyway, with that budget and blade length limit, I would go for a Farmer for camping and a Pioneer for EDC.
Hey, I only have the tiny victorinox, would have been a bit out of place amongst these blades. Looking to get something like the farmer or camper at some point though, thanks for watching buddy
Oh, my bad, I thought you had a larger one. But yeah the Farmer is a great choice (I really like the alox scaled knives) if you're going to get a new one.
I got a locking blade.
Which one would u recommend for camping, fishing and general carry for everyday use, not wanting to spend over 30 quid, hence why I clicked on this vid haha
I cannot see how knives with blades that can be fixed (using the little tool in the knife) could possibly be classed legal in the UK... UK law states that it is ILLEGAL to carry a knife in public without good reason, unless it has a folding blade with a cutting edge 3 inches long or less.
By legal does it mean that they are able go carry in public without no reason
That's correct.. for now anyway. Though I wouldn't recommend taking one in a pub or sports event etc
Hi andy you can't have to many knifes mate 😂😂😂atb jimmy 😎 😎
well.... haha, 1 was only on loan :p cheers mate
That böker looks beautiful
I had a small knife on me and the police gave me a suspended sentence im 13
How? Was the knife blade under 3 inches and has non locking blade?
@@misaroorasim that rule only applies to over 18s
I'm not a fan of these plasticky looking knives but I was given a CRKT similar to yours but without the semi serrated blade. I would say that using the CRKT without the blade locking pin is potentially dangerous, the sprung ball bearing that holds the blade open just too weak (but does allow you to open the blade one handed quite easily). Thanks for this informative review on the other EDCs
This is very true.. in fact of a lot of non locking blades, a law that makes knives more dangerous.. pretty silly really haha, thanks for watching mate
Are there any fixed blades that are legal in the U.K.?
Thats a good question. I would be interested to find out the same answer. ATB Moose
I thought the law said that any fixed blade or lock blade knife was illegal to have in a public place unless the owner had 'good reason' to be carrying it. Rather than the blade itself being legal or illegal it is the lack of reason to be carrying it that is the chargeable offence.
Nothing like fog when it comes to legal issues. Should be clear cut law (bad pun) otherwise i can see the CPS being bogged down with bullshit arrests from overzealous young coppers wanting to get their arrest record up for knife crime.
There is that! The court ultimately decides if you have good reason or not, a day fisherman is unlikely to be charged for carrying a 5 inch fixed blade in his kit going to and from his boat, but a youth in a pub on a friday night, well........ but what do I know!
That's what i mean Richard, it has to be zoned and regulated to save the time, cost and effort of the CPS and Police, not to mention the poor old general public on their way to the local lake or water way. Lad's working as cockies stopping off for a frothy on their way home, belt knife on hip and before you know it, cops are called. Grey area mate. In the old days it would not be an issue as the police had the brief to prosecute, now it's all referred to the CPS to make the call. Common sense has no play any more, it's by the book plod work and clogs the system. Fascinating topic mind. ATB mucker. Moose.
Kool knives .....thanks for sharing your knowledge....T.Gunz
Thanks for watching buddy :)
7.8cm is illegal in the uk. It has to be 7.62cm or less to carry without a good reason.
Are these all yours mate its a nice collection.
all except the Boker, which I didn't even know about until a friend showed me it so I borrowed it :p Thanks for watching buddy
Kent Survival nice if your ever doing a giveaway let me know haha just kidding mate take care speak soon.
Boker xs any time
In Texas we can carry swords. Literally.
haha, well I believe an Englishman has a historic right to carry a bow and 10 arrows lol, thanks for watching buddy
I hate the way the police and people who make the laws have decided to ban literally all knives. I'm 14 and I used to carry a Swiss everywhere. It annoys me to think that just because some children of my generation decided to stab someone with a kitchen knife... I wish knife safety was taught in schools. That would be such an amazing thing to happen
Also, I don't suppose I could but that 7056 off you? Looks like a decent knife
Hi Andy, no camping posts of late!? Sorry I don’t like knives. Where are you going next?
Hi Claire, woks been quite busy but I managed to get out at the weekend, video will be up tomorrow in fact :) hope you enjoy
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks :)
how cute you can carry kids knives
There are never any non locking folding knives like ever, and it so annoying
If that was all the knives I had... Well I'd be wondering what happened and how I'd get by with so few... I rather like knives :D
I'm not sure I actually own a "legal" one that isn't a Swiss army knife.
P. S. I can imagine an awkward situation if you were ever searched and had a knife that said "bastard halibut" on it... A humourless police officer may start having funny thoughts about your mental state for having a knife with something rather odd written on it
haha, and I thought this was too much :p maybe the halibut is aimed at the fishing demographic :p
Kent Survival I dunno man maybe it's some in joke or Internet meme thing... As for too many knives... I've hit drawers and tins /boxes of random knives. Some good stuff and a lot of random shite but I just love the usefulness/ potential of a knife so I pick them up many places. At least its not by buddy's ridiculous (legal) gun collection. That IS scary
The Lansky World Legal is dreadful - I bought one with high expectations..... but have retired it because I nearly cut my thumb off twice, because of that stiff hinge - Something I've never done with locking knives.....also I think it's ugly.
Its true, non locking knives are more dangerous but we are stuck with them, the stiff opening has the positives but yes, as you say that is one big negative for sure, thanks for watching
These laws are really stupid. A locking blade is not legal but the length of the blade under 3 inch is legal. Who's stupid idea was this?
That's not a knife! Lynn XXX
hahaha
Maybe legal knifes in UK. But in Denmark, are this a no go - in bars, shops everywhere.
Long or short blade.
Fixed or not, blade knifes.
Same with multitool.
Same whit Survival card - any type.
A stupid law says, have you a knife
on you, and go in there, are you a criminel.

All UK legal but you still can't carry any of them without a good reason to do so. You can't just walk around the streets with any of these in your pocket.
If it’s a folding knife non locking with a cutting edge of 3 inches you don’t need a reason. I’ve been stopped with one of these and they said it’s fine to carry.
@@deepsleep247 You've been lucky then. The police would have the right to confiscate if you can't explain why you are carrying a knife whether UK legal or not.
@@alanwhite7912 You can just say it’s for cutting food and packages
You don't need an excuse to carry a legal folding knife, in fact it's probably best that you don't start offering any other than "it is a useful tool" when stopped because they may try to encourage you to say the wrong thing.
Hers's some UK Gov Info on the laws - www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives
Quote - "It’s illegal to: .... carry a knife in public without good reason, unless it has a folding blade with a cutting edge 3 inches long or less"
BTW been carry a Lansky (in jacket pocket, not on belt so not generally visible) with me most of the time for the last 5+ years and have never had anyone say anything when I open it up to use it.
It's called self defense. That's more than a good reason.
The only problem I see with these knives is that they look aggressive and tactiCOOL. I think this would alarm most other people and police these days. I would love to see a video on UK legal knives that are not "scary". Hope this makes sense.
Get yourself on the Heinnie Haynes site and buy a few of the Rough Rider old school pocket knives. I just got a large Stockman and a Barlow. Great knives for very little money and won't draw funny looks if you take one out in public like my Boker Plus Worldwide does.
People sneer at Chinese made stuff but that's increasingly looking like brand snobbery or wilful nationalism in the face of such affordable quality. We're all going to be China's bitches soon, might as well succumb now... :-)
I have used hennie a few times, I need to stop really haha, I have more than enough knives now haha
@@KentSurvival I counted last night and discovered I have 14 UK legal carry knives alone, that's without including lockers, utility knives and marking knives (those Japanese kiridashi...). I think it's a bloke thing :-)
I think you need a Rough Rider Stockman. Really need one. G'wan, g'wan, g'wan.
Just have a legitimate use for the tool you choose and buy whatever you want. There's no need to dance around laws that don't apply.
that lansky is a hammer right not a knife IT LOOK'S LIKE 50 pounder not some thing you would carry unless you have a big ass bag to but it in plus it just so ugly what you meant to do whit it
Not sure this is a good vid Kent.
It could have a reverse logic with some people with a insidious agenda.
Why..because by showing this collection on line it will educate some ,by what is available for a low price.
Back in the 50/60s carrying pen knife was quite common ,but then they were used for outdoor life, cutting sticks ,or camping or countryside pursuits.
Now adays its to injure others with.
This is the sort of thinking that caused these ridiculous laws in the first place, tiny pocket knives are shit weapons regardless of government scare mongering, crims don't go online ordering pocket knives (they've already got numerous everyday items in their homes that make much more effective weapons if needed, big kitchen knives and hammers are a popular choice), crims aren't concerned with "legal EDC", Crims don't need online guides to know how to hurt people.
I carry one as a tool the same as everybody else, In self defence you're better off with a stout walking stick, a laptop in its case or a handbag. (This is if you've been forced to fight, not getting involved in combat in the first place is preferable).
crazy times, part of the problem is people seeing knives as weapons instead of the tools which they are. Nobody looks at a kitchen knife as a weapon, yet yobbos buy them from a pound shop and stab people, they don't tend to look at knife reviews and spend £30 on something that will be thrown in a river, plus a non locking folding knife would be a terrible weapon that you would probably end up hurting yourself on more than any victim. Thanks for watching guys
Hello andy ,as a collector of knives (all types )I find these video's interesting and informative but I just don't understand the EDC carry law in my mind a knife is a knife regardless of length and lockable or unlockable there all dangerous in the wrong hands I respect the law in carrying knives but you have woodsmen. ,hunters, fisherman, shooters, the list goes on who are geniune and responsible people who shouldn't be penalised for carrying there knives regardless of length for there hobby don't get me wrong you shouldn't take a knife to do the weekly shop that's a no no but in the outdoors for your hobby you should be ok ,I think what the law should do is increase the age to 25 before you can buy a knife and be registered with the police as you do for a firearm I feel that would help oh by the way nice set of knives sorry for the long winded reply ♠
laws for the lowest common denominator isn't it. I have a 1 inch blade on a multitool thats illegal because it locks or a 3 inch Lansky thats aggressive looking and legal haha, we can only do what we do. Thanks for watching
Some of these knives are too "tacticool" for my liking. Definite jail time carrying any of those.
Y'all gotta whine at those freaks in your Parlament or you aren't gonna be allowed to have a spork soon.
A right-winger “getting political” lmao
who's that then?
Why assume he's a right-winger?
that lansky is no way a every day pocket knife it's to big and what you meant to do whit it. it's fu&king wierd. it's a kids safety knife
Hello libertarians
None of these knives are available to buy so bit of a useless video
its almost as though you watched a 3 year old video 🤔
