  • I take a look at two contemporary world legal style knives from Böker and Lansky. !!Product Links Below!!
    These knives are designed to be carried in most jurisdictions around the world where other knives would be frowned upon.
    Both have sub 3 inch blades and very strong back springs. The blades can only be deployed with both hands!
    The Böker has the more tradition style blade whilst the Lansky has a hawk bill style that looks a little more aggressive or tactical.
    Both are very good knives and, of course, I like both of them!

    Now at 2 mins in. WHAT I WAS WAITING FOR and couldn't find anywhere. "An even stronger backspring." (Boker)
    I'd love a slip joint backspring/open/close pressure test and stab test for slip joints.
    You, sir, just sold me on the Boker (If I can find it. I'm really hoping the Boker Plus XS is as strong). After 2 hours of websites and videos it took 2 + minutes on your vid. The Lansky was touted as the strongest non-lock, but the bulk for a 3"< blade is too much. Here i carry auto knives or fixed, let alone firearms. Moving to a new world in the UK. THANK YOU.

    I watched your vid around 2yrs ago before buying the lansky. and two years of daily abuse in a garden centre it's still going strong, a real workhorse. super strong blade which holds an edge really well even though it's a b**ch to sharpen (mine is straight now and easy to sharpen) and much looser, I probably would have bought another by now if it wasn't so hard to sharpen, but I will have another, an awesome knife, thanks !

    I just received my Boker Worldwide and so far I love it. It is way more people-friendly than the Lansky (which I previously had). Plus the blade shape is so much more versatile. I will begin carrying this with me daily for heavy tasks, but will also continue to use a SAK or other such knife to deploy around people because most individuals simoly view them as common tools. Most people where I live will view the Boker in a similar manner, but it is a tad big and might get an occasional odd look.

    Came back to check your vid as after 3 years of daily hard use my lansky is just too loose to be safe, the knife has been awesome. I've lifted slabs and other really rough work it's so strong, and I really should have another. But I'm just gonna order the boker and see if it's as good.
    Hopefully another 3 yrs

    Hi thanks for the reply. One thing I forgot to mention is how useful I think your reviews are. I've ordered a Sanrenmu based on your review. A question in your reviews could you test the ability of a knife to hold it's edge. A butchers knife is razor sharp, but only because they hone it on a steel every time they use it. A general utility knife shouldn't need honing that often if it's going to be useful.

    I like the Boker design better myself. The blade would be easier to maintain than the compound angles of the Lansky. But like I've said previously, any policeman can judge either of them or even a butter knife to be a weapon if a person is flashing it around in a threatening manner and confiscate it and also arrest you. It's always their call and you'd be in the cell for many hours before a judge might see fit to release you. Or not. It's all depending upon their mood and how a person explains themselves and carries themselves. That's why I don't bother with legality when choosing to carry a knife. I go by what's practical and convenient and just always conduct myself professionally. Never had a problem, really. I do carry a supplemental small, non locking and very non tactical looking for use as an apple peeler or whatever and no one bats an eye. But it's also scalpel sharp

    End of 2017 reporting in here. One advantage the Lansky has over the Boker is the Lansky is still available in the UK on Amazon and Ebay, though somewhere in Poland EBay still have a couple of the Boker's for sale. *QUESTION* have you tried to sharpen either knife, esp with the Lansky Sharpening System as that is what I would be using. To me it looks like it might be difficult to sharpen the Lansky with the Lansky.

    • @NashRathbone
      @NashRathbone  7 років тому

      +bendari Hello and thanks for watching. Locking blades are not illegal as such in the UK. You are not allowed to carry them as they are (Apparently) more dangerous than a slip-joint knife!! Yet another stupid UK regulation.

    • @darthkek1953
      @darthkek1953 6 років тому

      The reason the highly-specific "non-locking folding knife with blade under three inches" exclusion was created specifically so so people could carry "Swiss Army" Victorinox knives. Without Swiss Army knives being so popular - and acceptable even to MPs - even that wouldn't have been legal.

  • @CanadianCuttingEdge
    @CanadianCuttingEdge 7 років тому +1

    HA!!! Nice opening.
    Wow, those have the strongest springs that I have seen in a long time. I don't have any slip joints that have such a wide blade (I mean distance from spine to cutting edge). Those two are both quite huge, and I ought to get my self at least one of them.
    I don't really care how quickly the blade can be deployed, but those strong springs do make it the closest thing to a locking blade that I have seen, that would seem to me to be quite desirable for you guys in the UK - as long as, as you demonstrated, it also has a half stop otherwise: whoooooops there goes a finger....

      Hi and thanks for watching. You have to be careful over here in the UK as just about anything you carry, that is sharp and/or pointy can be classed as an offensive weapon! It is absolutely ridiculous! The list of items that are not allowed has recently been added too. Google UK knife law and check out the government site for details. Please let me know if you need further help.

    It is well known that "the law is an ass" and the present British knife restrictions are a good example. For example 'lock-knives' i.e. any bladed instrument with a blade that locks open is illegal - regardless of blade length. However, I believe one can still buy a locking blade knife in a UK Pound-Shop. It's called a 'box-cutter'. I might have one on my key-ring - just for opening boxes you understand!

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 3 роки тому

      No lock knives as well as fixed bladed knives not illegal to buy and own...but you just can't carry them unless you have a valid reason e.g. with work tools on your way to work (not in the pub after work) or an agency chef taking his own knives to work in a restaurant as restaurant kitchens tend to have crappy £5 knives

  • @Jamesnebula
    @Jamesnebula 6 років тому

    There is a special place in hell reserved for knife designers that put a concave profile on the blade. Instead of a range of sharpening stones grits and devices you have to use one round rod.

  • @neilfulcher9298
    @neilfulcher9298 7 років тому

    Hi all, I'm rather late to this party. I live in the UK as well. Whilst both knives are within the letter of the law here, I'm confident that both would be confiscated by any police officer that found you carrying one of them in public, even if he found it in your pocket. The argument would go along the lines of the slip joint is so stiff it effectively locks. If you argue the point and refuse to give up your knife, you'll be arrested.
    This website
    www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives
    tells us that
    "Lock knives have blades that can be locked and refolded only by pressing a button".
    You'd be in front of a magistrate before that was taken into account though. If you get that far it will have cost you the services of a competent solicitor, far more than the original cost of the knife.
    It would be fair to say the UK police believe that as a rule of thumb Swiss Army knives are OK. This is why I carry one. The one I carry is fully UK legal. I suspect I could get away with carrying this
    www.heinnie.com/victorinox-workchamp
    because it's a Swiss Army knife. I can't confidently say the same of either the Boker Worldwide or the Lansky World Legal.
    One last point. The police interpret the law quite freely because they don't want people carrying knives. However neither do the general public so they allow the police to act that way.

    • @NashRathbone
      @NashRathbone  7 років тому

      +Neil Fulcher Thanks for watching and your interesting comment. I actually include the government knife regulations website with all of my knife reviews. I think you are right and this is why I carry small blades. I have a Victorinox SD Classic with me mostly. It is a very non threatening knife and still capable of performing small tasks. I quite like the small Victorinox knives like the Champ. I have a Farmer too.

    • @RUTGERMORTENSEN
      @RUTGERMORTENSEN 7 років тому +4

      Neil Fulcher you're dead wrong here, givi g up your EDC would be an admission of guilt, you are allowed to carry these and if the cop tries to confiscate it he would be in the wrong as he has no legal right to, provided this is entirely in a search scenario and you haven't been acting like a clown in public.

    • @neilfulcher9298
      @neilfulcher9298 7 років тому

      RUTGERMORTENSEN Unfortunately other laws apply as well. if you are stopped and searched by a police officer, an offensive weapon is anything he or she deems to be one. It's true that the decision could be reversed by the courts, but where's your knife going to be by them. The document that's linked to here is a set of guidelines not an actual law. There are very few laws telling you what you can do, most are prohibitive.

    • @simonh6371
