    Clever uk laws ensure we lose our fingers . Why not make my garden fork a folding liability too ?

    • @quim1970
      @quim1970 8 років тому +5

      +Arthur twosheds It is not illegal to have a locking knife on you, or even a fixed blade knife, you just need to have a good reason. Would you take your garden fork into Tesco while you do the shopping? if you did, you would get the jail. If you are doing a spot of gardening, then it is fine, same goes for joiners having chisels etc. They have valid reasons.

    Just as a point, i don't EDC any knife here in Scotland, but when i go camping here? I take a fixed blade Alan Wood borders bushcraft knife, with a ZT 0560 as backup. And i am comfortable that i have good legal reasons for having both.

    The Victorinox Pioneer is the civilian equivalent of the old Soldier. It's a Farmer minus the saw. But I like to have a saw and the extra layer is only about 2-3mm so I EDC a Farmer, together with a Classic SD for the scissors and tweezers.

    Just my opinion but the best keychain knife bar none is the victorinox classic sd which offers a standard knife screwdriver scissors tweezers and a toothpick. Also they're extremely affordable.

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 4 роки тому

      I like to have more tools and bigger blades, so I carry my Classic SD in conjunction with a Vic Farmer (thicker deeper blade than 91mm plastic models, plus saw and heavy duty awl) as well as a SOG microclip (for the pliers but it too has a nice 2in/5cm blade). But guess what...the Classic SD is the one I actually use the most. Both the scissors and the little blade, because in an everday urban environment that's all I need to open packages and so on. The other 2 are hardly ever used but I like to carry them to feel equipped for other situations or a survival scenario. So yes the Classic SD is the best.

      police have no idea if the knife had a lock or not, so as far as you remove it completely, you are fine. althou romoving the lock will make the knife wiggle around and open or close by itself, knowing that the zing is spring assisted it will be a pain to have that thing without a lock. but that's just my opinion

    It’s the law written by your MPs not the police who decide what you can and can’t carry. If you don’t like it lobby your local MP and ask for it to be changed. Or get one of those petitions with enough signatures to get the matter discussed in parliament.
    You’re fine to carry all of those provided your intent of use doesn’t mean it’s an offensive weapon. Also be aware of where you may be going with it as most bars and large event venues won’t allow them on their premises.
    I personally carry the Spyderco UKPK most days as I use it at work but don’t have to worry if I leave it in my pocket and go elsewhere. A great knife that’s easy to open with one hand and the finger Choil prevents any unwanted closing of the blade. Other times I have the Victorinox Cadet or Farmer both really useful tools.
    Read section 139 of the criminal justice act adhere to it and you’ll be fine, even if the occasional police officer makes the mistake of measuring the length of the blade and not the cutting edge. Just politely tell him it’s the cutting edge that needs to be measured under section 139. If he refuses and arrests you, stay calm you are still ok, it’s a mistake that will more than likely get fixed at the police station. People make mistakes including the police.

    in reading through the posts here i get the impression that these knifes have no locking mechanism? it further sounds as though this is done with the intent of it somehow prohibiting their use as weapons?
    sounds similar to the logic used by idiots in America who continually attempt to label semi automatic rifles, assault weapons.
    anyhow great vid, you sound very knowledgeable, thanks for sharing!

    • @Sup3rSaiy3n
      @Sup3rSaiy3n  8 років тому +1

      +Richard Williams Hi Richard. Thanks for your comment. You are correct these knives do not have locking mechanisms. There has always been non-locking knives available (texas toothpicks, slip joints etc) so I believe the main reason they are lockless is to conform to knife law instead of prohibiting their use as weapons. They can still be used as a weapon anymore than an umbrella or bic pen. It's different over here, many would look at any knife as a weapon regardless of its size or whether it locks and it is illegal to carry anything for self-defence. Sounds bad but if you are threatened then depending on the circumstance you can use reasonable force. Like America (35%) our obesity rate is almost reaching 1/3 too so the amount of reasonable force one can use before harming oneself is slowly diminishing. Unfortunately aforementioned people here do not have the luxury of defending themselves with a gun.

    • @niallschiefler8636
      @niallschiefler8636 6 років тому +1

      No. UK knife laws state that if the blade is under 3 inches, there is no locking mechanism and it isn't a flip knife it isn't considered offensive and you may carry it in public. Even if it were not to meet those criteria you may own it and carry it. But not in public spaces and with good reason: survival, profession etc. At home or on private land or in the wild it doesn't matter.

    Cool video man .
    What about not consenting to a search .
    If you have done nothing wrong they cant just come over and stop and search you .

      You can say you do not consent to the search but if they are arresting you for something else or you are in a stop and search area they can. No normally they cannot just come and stop or search you. They are not allowed to pre-judge. They have clever ways to get that outcome though such as stopping you for something else first.

      @@Sup3rSaiy3n well, technicaly, if you are talking about laws in general - yes). But what about knifes - nah, actualy I can ;) Without going deep into Russian laws (`cause it may seem treaky and sometimes a little bit illogical): people can legally carry most knifes without any problems. Some blades (different daggers, bowies, swords e.t) require firearms permision - if you have it you are free to buy and carry them. Can even hang a sword on your belt and go like that - that would be weird as hell and cops will definetely ask you some questions - but it is still legal. There are some restrictions on OTF knifes and balisongs with blades larger than 90 mm - but nobody really cares until you swing `em right in front of the police XD
      P.S. Please, don`t get me wrong - I`m not trying to offend anyone. It`s just wild for me that some goverment may have such prejudice about own citizens that it`s better not to give them simple knifes. For me it is nonsense.

    I know all you knife people think the UK knife laws are daft but another perspective is that in inner cities in the UK (especially London) some young people are habitually carrying knives around with them and using them on each other with very little provocation. E.g. I used to live in Homerton, part of Hackney, inner London. On the high street early one afternoon near my house one young man stabbed another young man in an argument over a debt of £5. The stabbed young man was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital but bled out on the way there. The perpetrator presumably was charged with murder. That's two young people's lives destroyed. Obviously this is totally fucked up. In the longer term guiding them to live more constructive/less delinquent lives would be great but in the short term maybe being really hard on knife possession is the only way forward.

      The laws on knives in the UK are tight enough. Most of the stabbings are carried out using knives that are illegal to carry without good reason so simply tightening the rules will make no difference whatsoever. I do not expect to get harassed by the Police for doing something that is perfectly legal anymore than I would expect the Police to stop and warn me about speeding if I am below the speed limit. We have got to the stage where I have to use a knife that is less safe for me to use because of stupid laws so I don't need any more danger put in my path by the government. As you say they should live a more constructive life but, that does not mean that I should have to change my ways. Parents should get off their fat one's and ensue that their children are not carrying knives illegally. It is similar to the rubbish spouted about gun crime, it has increased since the all but ban (it's not a complete ban on handguns) on handguns, criminals have carried on using them and the vast majority of firearms offences are carried out with illegally held firearms so what good would changing the law do when the law is simply ignored by criminals? Catch the criminals and leave the law abiding people alone. Ask yourself, do you think that any government would ever put a temporary restriction on the carrying of knives then give us the right back afterwards? If you do you are deluded.

    If you live in an area where you're likely to get stabbed, the police will take your only form of protection away from you. Fantastic.

      except with authority or good reason but the officer might disagree with the reason which would make it for the courts to determine.
