Really hoping it's just a bad trailer, cause the game itself at least looks beautiful here in the teaser for tomorrow's gameplay reveal. But the vibes of this trailer are definitely far from anything that would interest me
x.com/dragonage/status/1800196133517660204
I mean we can choose our background like in Origins again and we are getting all four races to choose from so that's actually an insanely good sign
When you say plot what do you mean it's a trailer?
The old devs who wrote and made the great Bioware games are no longer with the company. Even the founders of the company are gone. All of them left many years ago. What's in Bioware now are the new and clueless.
Show don’t tell is lost in entertainment these days.
YEP, so many things don't realize that
It would have been better to let us discover our companions in the game, we would be invested and any bond we have with them would have more weight and feeling.
The fun of a game like dragon age is to explore the world and the characters.
To show all the characters is like telling a joke and spoil the twist before the joke even ends. 😂
It is even worse because they tell you the abilities of these characters and think this is their personality.
No, it just makes them extremely flat and shallow.
It’s like people don’t even know what the word „personality“ means.
My creative writing teacher told us you can 'show' that your character is ... a bad azz, with deeds or you can 'tell' the reader that they are a bad azz with a description. But that if we had to use neon arrows and signs, we have created a caricature of a bad azz, not a real one.
Think Enzio.. he walks quietly through a crowd, even gets knocked into.. but then he stops, the camera angle changes and that wrist blade pops out. You don't have to ask and they don't have to Neon arrow him.. you know he's a bad azz with the quiet picture they painted.
The Veilguard Trailer is a bunch of neon arrows, and whoever wrote that should be fired.
I am seriously hoping that the Trailer sucks and the game doesn't.
WARDENS, WARRIORS, MAGES, ROGUES..., WE ALL remember how, drenched in blood, we stood up to the ARCHDEMON Urthemiel - The Beauty. Many WARDENS died on this day.
WE ALL, whether humans, elves, dwarves, or Qunari, remember how WE protected and defended the peoples of Thedas with blood, sweat and tears, after that. WE have made sacrifices, WE have lost and gained new friends.
For a better world. For peace, for justice, for respect and love. AND NOW, in the Fourth Dragon Age, a new ARCHDEMON raises his head. Its called "C.....e B....e", ...to make an entire franchise to a embarrassing joke, to destroy everything, what we have fought and died for.
HUMANS, ELVES, DWARFS, QUNARI..., WARDENS, WARRIORS, MAGES, ROGUES, ...WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION?
Dragon Age Origins came out in 2009, so it's a decade and a half old by now, and the trailer still looked better and more compelling and interesting that the Veilguard-trailer. And for exactly the reasons you pointed out. I'm also having trouble understanding who they are trying to appeal to because based on what I've seen from "us old fans", most have not liked what they've seen, and at the same time, trying to rope in new players by making the game look and feel like something that has appealed to them before (like Fortnite and such) seems like a weird move considering this is the 4th installment in the series. So...all they have accomplished with this trailer so far as far as I can tell is they've alienated the target audience trying to woo a new audience who has no reason to be interested in their game. I'm not an expert on the matter by any means but it seems like a very dumb business strategy to me.
You are so right! In my opinion Bioware is targeting the younger crowd who probably has not and will not play DragonAge Origins. My favorite games are DA Origins and Baldurs Gate 3.
it's called virtue signalling. You can do it individually on the Twatter, or you can do it through companies such as Bioware, multiplying its impact via the vehicle used. Think of a loud-speaker - this is what DEI games are. And it is also likely that Bioware/EA are after ESG money as well. In short, these games exist in their current format to saturate the media sphere with their particular message and to signal to ESG investors that this or that company deserves financial support.
Fromsoft and Larian are the only ones i trust atm....
Assassins creed was once my life.... now it makes me cry. Booo Ubisoft.
Atlus is ok, but they release unreleased games and make you pay in full for the full version. I look at you, p5 and shin megami 5.
Bethesda.... well.....bethesda....
Bioware.... oh bioware 😢
CD preject Red fucked up Cyberpunk but at least they kept working on it until it turned out good. So I still have faith that the witcher 4 would be good
Please stop mentioning Larian as a studio that is capable of creating a dark fantasy with a truly medievelesque consistent worldbuilding. They’ll modernise the tone and diversify the population in a nonsensical manner. Bg3 is an incredible rpg but not a good Forgotten Realms rpg. Larian “Faerun” felt like a theme park projecting modern society wearing costumes.
And also CDPR, and Warhorse Studios, Obsidian and there are more but definitely not BioWare and Electronic Arts.
@@hedzsooo cdpr blew it with cyberpunk XD
I think Morrigan’s line about the bones of a madwoman was also a great insight into her outspoken, skeptical nature as someone not bound by social norms due to her upbringing. She was very opposed to any religious ideas, and Andraste was supposedly a prophet. Her sacred ashes that many would have given anything to find, were of zero value to her. I tought it was cool to show the essence of her character with just one line.
Everyone is chasing Marvel's wildly successful formula that existed until Endgame, but often the result is poor writing.
"Who is this dragon, and why should I care about him?" I have this question for both trailers lol. In the DAO trailer, dude just rolls up for no reason and third parties like a coward.
I wouldn’t say a joke that moves the plot along it a joke that act as exposition to the audience.
I agree the trailer is horendus and is boarderline boarderlands.
But im not sure about the comparison when it comes to "what is this trailer showing"
Both trailers hint at something
In DA:O its the trip to the sacred ashes, but it doesn't say this in the trailer.
Same with the Vailguard, they are gathering a crew for something, we know what we will be facing, and what type of companions we need to counter it, but not what the mission itself is.
You could easily remake this trailer with a darker tone, remove the stupid music and less humor/Borderlands intro and get a much better result.
My overall disdain for this trailer is the tone, the character cards, the character look/graphics,the music and a special note, the god damn vail jumper, this makes light of the vail, what it is and the perils it contains.
Bear in mind that Dragon Age was dropping 'character name' captions aka Borderlands in Dragon Age Origins.
I can help but wonder if the trailer wasn't written by AI. One example of a small change that might have made the humour work if Verik is the one watch (players character) and he is the one to point it out. Why might this work better. 1st he is know and the Easter egg of him finding another hero is Appling to fans. 2nd He is know to be smart and a sharp observer, so it plays to his character strength.
You know what , i'm so sad dorian is not there , he should be the mage of tevinter to rewrite the story of slavery ecc ecc
Slow clap, well said! :)
Mass Effect: Dragon Age......WTF is this doesn't even feel like a medieval fantasy game now.
14 years have passed since Origins and this games release. No the original teams aren't doing this game. Many have retired or left. DA had its own style it was cartoon realism not Disneyland Fantasy. Remember the looks of the Hinterlands, our Fortress, or our guarters. How about the fact Varric was a blond since DA2 not a greasy looking black hair streaked with gray. Character continuity is a thing. At least the game play looks good. But the Disney bright color is too Balders gateish for a Dragon Age game thats not known for it.
The issue is yes it a very bad Trailer but you to go So 1, These are the Team. 2, This is the Graphics which if they did a better marketing you go well at least you never lied on that front since the first Pictures of the Game. Like we get it Compare Dragon Age Origins to Dragon Age 2, Dragon Age 3 just go well they are doing 2024 and it's been 10 years😢 so they think the old player base is gone as for BG3 yes even that is Better then Dragon Age Origins but your pointing your message not facts it's a bad Trailer.
I totally agree. I liked it better when it was still called Dredwolf and looked more like Inquisition. This style is just a complete turn off for me
This feels just like that trailer from the new Saint road, woke with characters just made for the new modern audience who doesn't buy games or numbers are so low they don't matter, that qunari soft face it's giving me red flags
This feels like Fortnite
I agree with your comparisons on writing for both trailers to some extend.
But veilguard trailer does showcase what each party member can do and bits of story beats.
Harding is an archer, but uses the environment to her advantage, taking a mug at last second and backhanding tevinter assassin in the face. Tevinter being one of the locations the game takes place, and in its capital minrathous too.
Neve is doing a deal, she bought some red ruby gem but her buyer attacked her afterwards to keep it so she casted ice Mage on them. So ice is her preferred element of spells, what is this gem and why is it so important she wanted it?
Lucanis the Mage killer, their style is assassin snapping that guy's neck obvious he is of antivan crows. the . Later was believed to be dead, clearly faked his death.
Bellara the viel jumper, she can use eluvian mirrors freely, at first you think she be a mage, but no. Later they show her using a mechanized bow that is magic infused prosthetic arm turns into, bows are used by Rogue class. So not a mage, how can she use an eluvian at will then?
Davin is a Grey warden but he had a baby griffon, this species was thought to be long extinct, how the hell did he acquire one? Also implies it could be his combat pet too.
Emmrich,. Yes summons skeleton battle pets clearly, but he subdued those two people who were tomb raiders stealing valuables opening that chest.
Taash showcases her being a hardened warrior able to dual wielding axes. I think only rogue class were able to do that, not warrior, they'd only have sword and shield or a 2 handed weapon. So shows new weapon type flexibility for warrior class.
Then that dragon at the end with all the party fighting together. The backdrop of it looks like the infamous Black City in the fade. ya know how the darkspawn came to be from cursed tevinter mages trying to enter it.
If someone is unable to tell this is a dragon age game, then clearly they haven't played one know to the lore that is right in front of them. I agree varric dialogue is bad, but even so for artstyle, none of trailers ever look like in-game counterparts anyways.
I'm going to preface what I'm about to say with, if the gameplay looks really good, and I linked a snippet of it in the pinned comment I posted a few min ago (graphically looks great imo) then none of what I'm saying here or in this video will really apply anymore and will be solely contextualized to the trailer specifically. But to me, a trailer should appeal to people even if they don't know all the minutia lore of the series, but even in structure, I found the tone and feel of it wholly off-putting and just lame in general. Granted, it could be a special case for this trailer specifically in which case, it won't matter if the game is actually really good, but if it is, then i don't think the trailer did a good job showing that
I've played and loved DA:O and liked 2 somewhat. 3 was absolute garbage.
Without Varric I never would have guessed this is DA. It's dark fantasy, not Fortnite. A trailer is supposed to entice. This did the opposite to me. Well done?
It's entirely possible the trailer was supposed to be some weird stylistic trailer and it's not representative of the actual tone of the game... but that has to be shown imo, luckily they are showcasing gameplay tomorrow so hopefully we can get an answer soon.
@@JMulls I hope. I actually want to be wrong and it's amazing. lol Oh well. Fingers crossed, everyone.
@TheOneGreat I could tell from tevinter assassin clothing designs, the minrathous landscape, the black city backdrop, the elf coming of an eluvian mirror. Loads of hints without varric lol.
Who is this made for? Visit Dragon Age subreddit, and read about how everyone who dislike the trailer are "Nazis". And how lovely it is that the characters are "So diverse".
This is who it's made for. If you are just someone who wanted "Make the witch pregnant and give birth to the demon if you want to survive" DAO type of dark story telling - you are discarded.
I disagree, it does NOT feel like a fan fiction, because fans HAVE actually played the games, unlike those activist, and hence would know how to make it appealing to us.
Read a book.

Age shadow legends ass trailer
What dragon age?
And why are you guys making this game a scapegoat ?
The 15-20 minute gameplay makes it pretty clear that the game is Dragon Age's usual combination of dark and quirky. It remains a mature game.
At this point I hope developers just stop releasing trailers and just drop the game randomly. I’m tired of the complaining, every dragon age trailer that I’ve ever seen is not indicative of what the plot is. We see one trailer now all of a sudden the game is bad? You haven’t seen any of these characters in the world or lighting we just complain for content. Is it a good trailer? No, but damn. The trailer is from Varric’s point of view, in DA2 we see when Varric goes off and changes the story for himself it becomes crazy and you can see HIS narrative is clearly delusional.
Real Take Dragon age has never been good 2 was decent but that’s it Inquisition was trash. Not to mention BioWare was on death watch since Andromeda
1 was amazing. The rest was trash.
The only dragon age game I truly enjoyed a lot was Origins, 2 was dog water, and Inquisition had it's charms to it but felt too much like playing an MMO just by yourself. But I also really REALLY enjoyed Origins and the tone of that game is so glaringly separate from this trailer. Hoping the gameplay showcase tomorrow is completely different
@@JMulls ye origins was alright just inquisition was all over the place for a story perspective
Liked them all. Why are you even here if you don’t like the franchise?
@@maiafay Why did you watch the trailer if you're that uncritical? You would buy literally anything if it said DA anyway.
It's not Origins but so what?
Indeed. Origins was 15 years ago.
You might need speech therapy to cover your O and R sounds.
In the trailer, all the companions appearance are overly designed and uglified compared to all previous Bioware titles which is just bad drag queer taste. Goodbye Bioware and good riddance.
Also black elves, which are universally despised but shoved down our throats
