Yeah dawntrail did nothing bad, but it did nothing great either, where you would expect something amazing for a new start of a story to get people hyped. All EW hyped is gone from people now when they know this game direction is going to shit.

People just need to remember that this is basically the start of a new MSQ. A Realm Reborn was not very good when it first started but it led up into Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker. Dawntrail is basically the first part of a new MSQ like ARR. Just give them the time to cook with the new msq and it's going to get better cause I think to me at least they can be trusted to let them make the MSQ better, given what they have done in the past. Hell, even for it's time Heavensward, was a very sloppy expansion. The MSQ was very good sure but jobs at the time were a mess, raiding wasn't very fun either. I also made the switch to tank (WAR) from dps which I had been really into playing SMN, because PCT basically deleted, the other mdps jobs, lol. I'm still currently playing the game and have fun with it but I'm just playing it very casually. I log in enough through out the week to get my tomes done with dailies and now my coin from the new alliance raid. Don't really have much for goals, other than to complete the gear set from the alliance raid.

I am levelling all jobs (currently at least 80 in all) and crafters (currently 94 for those). Then I have to make some gil and then pick 2 jobs to master. Patch made me more hopeful for the story going forward.

I think FF16 Rising tide was one of my favourite experiences this year, In love the hell out of the new area, love that Leviathan boss and I love how it adds a nice bow on Clive’s story

In my opinion ER dlc should not been in GOTY for the reason that ER all ready won GOTY back in 2022 and is not fair for the game that could have been in the more deserving to be on the list

It obvious to why they put it in a DLC of a game released last year instead of another game.... Because they are biased and they dont want another game or 2 that shall not be named for the 90% of the committee (not the 10% of the fans that voted) to be nominated. Awards Shows are a sham and always has been. The Oscar proves this and The Game Awards are no different.

The issue with the story is the same one they always have FF14 can not write a hook and make stakes to save its life. Take this patch for example, the hook should have been the return of our dead evenmy, but instead we have spend time running around with the kid king who is still in rags for some reason about his mom and save a cow. No one seems to ask the old writing question, is this the most exciting and important thing to be writing about and if not why are we not writing that instead? It shows just how much the writing falls apart with a lightning in a bottle that was Emet to carry the plot along. Unless you are hard sold into finding out what is close to side quest lore of these characters you have nothing to look forward to in the MSQ until the end and there is nothing in the end to hype the next chapter.

Fuck no. They ruined the integrity of what a game of the Award means by pandering the From Software fans so aggressively, best DLC should be a category. Established names coasting off critical reception of a years old game double dipping is lame.

My annoyance is the groupies who refuse any sort of criticism. That is what is holding the game back. Their "its not bad" is what is preventing actual substantive changes to what are issues with the game this expansion.

The comment section shows that people want an Avengers Endgame kind of story for each expansion and just want Shadowbringers 2, 3, 4, etc with Emet back because heaven forbid we actually take a chill expansion to build up new conflict like the devs have repeatedly stressed over and over again. I hate this expansion. Dawntrail was missed potential because we could've had an awesome mentor arc with Wuk and then brought in Koana to confront his idea of a tech-based society with Sphene. I'll come back at least once before 7.2 for the free fantasia and during limited seasonal events. I still have faith in ffxiv, but not enough to sub for 6 months at a time anymore.

I think the biggest issues are the release cycles. It’s been 4 months since DTs release and it was fine, but the patch cycles need more content offerings. 7.1 has 1 dungeon, a few story missions and a beast tribe. 7.2 is still 4 months away and it’s supposed to start game changing updates. Still waiting for some content that was revealed during the dan fests like the cosmic exploration.
