It’s a Railroad Renaissance-in honor of Black History Month, we are overhauling Fallout 4’s Railroad faction to give it the noirish panache that a clandestine faction of spies and freedom fighters should have! This mod list entirely changed my feelings about the Railroad.

I appreciate the comment very much. You might not have been the only one wondering what the connection was. They are named after the Underground Railroad, a network of people that ferried slaves across the Mason-Dixon line to freedom before slavery was outlawed. Harriet Tubman was the most famous member of the group. The Railroad believes it is doing the same thing with synths.
I probably should have stated that more directly in the video. Thank you very much for asking.

I appreciate this attempt to bring the Railroad to the concepts of what they should be, I was curious ever since I met one of their members in Fallout 3. And before I met them they made them seem so mysterious and with Deacon he makes them seem so mysterious and like I don't know who to trust - then I enter the HQ it feels like a damp murky bookclub underground, I wanna like it but it let me down - hopefully this assortment helps. Might even do a run of it again if it helps out.
Love this comment because that is EXACTLY what this overhaul did for me. Now I think they are pretty slick and I relish diving into their spy vibe.

You missed out on Atomic Radio and Tales from the Commonwealth.
It fleshes out the Railroad faction a bit more and has a new companion called R4-04 who is definitely the best companion from this mod. However it’s a perfect immersion for the vanilla Commonwealth
You are right. I didn't realize that Tales from the Commonwealth had a lot of Railroad content.
Would be cool if you can make faction alliances or outright absorb a faction. Like say you’re in charge of the minutemen it would be cool if you could make the railroad part of the minutemen as your intelligence/spy arm
There is a lot of potential for that kind of thing that has gone untapped.
i agree, but i suppose that was too hard for bethesda, or maybe they just wanted to provide consequences to each faction or decision you chose.
the subversion mod however allows you to unite every faction under the same banner, however with the brotherhood it involves replacing maxin with a synth, but you have to essentially run the institute as the highest order on that faction system, but really it's the railroad winning situation, it's a very tough thing to get right as the mod author makes that outcome very tricky to accomplish and it requires you to pay attention to what's going on in the story and to react to these things and they aren't always decisions that you can easily follow via your quest marker, you really have to pay attention to your decisions and pay attention to the dialogue in what it means to figure out how that outcome could work in the story.
Yep. I lost the Maxon Synth option somewhere along the way, but I was cool with it because I wanted to have an enemy faction out there to keep things interesting.

yep, making the hard decision in order to get a longer lasting peace lol.
but the mod also makes other outcomes possible as well i forgot how many alternate endings that mod allows, but it's really cool.
Only reason to go railroad is the mesh, then leave.

The quest line for the railroad itself is kinda against it. Not much even modding can do to fix that.

OK I'm greatly confused . I'm trying to find the Better Railroad HQ mod and I'm also looking for the one for Nick Valentine's new trench coat . I'm looking at the link for the Railroad Redone mod by Xfreakish and it doesn't look anything at all like it shows in the video and doesn't show anything in it from Elianora .
I can help. Look at me Railroad Edition integrates Handmaiden outfits (a seperate mod) on the named NPCs. I crafted the Handmaiden suit and trench coat for Nick and equipped it on him. Railroad Redone (HQ revision) by Xfreakish is the name of the mod that changes the Railroad HQ, (so I don't know why it looks different than the pictures) but Faction Housing Overhaul -Railroad by Elianora is a separate mod that gives you the cool faction quarters and doesn't conflict with Railroad Redone. I'll try and reorganize the links to me a little more intuitive.

No or the player sides is with the railroad I know thousands of people that choose a railroad over others me myself I have a neutral playthrough I always just stick with the minutemen because they're neutral to everybody that's why I always get the good ending where everybody survives except for the institute let's just say nobody really wants the institute does the boogeyman remember lol

But I don't use them to take down The Institute or BoS as they are so squishy.
I am The General of the Minutemen and we go into the Institute, and take out the BoS.
However, with a number of these mods that benefit The Railroad...🤔
And, yes, I LOVE the Start Me Up Redux mod. It makes Fallout 4 so much more fun and replayable.
I have so many characters/profiles who start outside the Vault.
Most notable being Ex-Mojave Express Courier 6 characters who sided with either the NCR, or Mister House.
I also have a character who is the Vault Dweller from Vault 101 who travelled to the Commonwealth.
All because of Start Me Up (and some appropriate clothing and weapon mods).
These Railroad Redux mods look fantastic. Especially the clothing. Love it.
Is Nick wearing the Railroad clothing due to the Railroad Redux mod, or because you are running AWKCR?

Why destroy the brotherhood, they are the only faction that makes sense
Until I added "Spare the Railroad" and then later Subversion I would side with them, I usually still take Institute but with the Subversion mod doing *literally* what I always wanted out of it, I feel it's one of the best things to happen to modding this game in a long while. Will definitely look into some of the outfits, they do look great!
I felt the same way. And the outfits are fantastic in 4K.

They reinvigorated this entire main faction for me. I feel like I gained 25% of the gameplay back.

I have seen those and it is amazing that someone has put that together, but I try to stay true to the Fallout aesthetic.
love the video man, if you take recommendations i think you should check out the mod Frost for Fallout 4, be warned tho it is soul crushingly hard.

I am a big fan of the RR (but they benefit greatly from a few good mods).
Shame the Handmaiden outfit mod was removed, making all the mods that require it useless

The railroad faction still really sucks ive downloaded every railroad mod i could find giving them power armor and more heavys im thinking of learning the creation kit to give them t-65 power armor and chinese stealth armor people join the bos because of the awesome stuff so why not join the railroad for the stealth items unfortunately the next gen update messes with the creation kit
Yeah. I am still running all the mods I recommend here, but I think Warsaw's Improved Railroad is broken because I get naked agents showing up here and there.

LOL, Abraham Lincoln as a 'liberator of the Black slaves', more re-written history from the Marxists, who could have guessed? Yeah the Railroad was a serious letdown as a "faction", but we are talking about a Bethesda game where factions and logical progression of that factions interests, are often entirely devoid of structure and substance through the storyline. Since the lead writer has never heard of or used a 'storyboard' to direct the teams in producing a cohesive vision for the factions, or for that matter, the entire story of their games, we get what we got, another mediocre game with a mediocre story, with mediocre characters.
I hear that. And yet, like me, you still watch UA-cam videos about it.😉
i always love mods with more replay-ability, but the story of the railroad is very dumb and silly, it's not humans they are saving and liberating to give freedom to, it's literal toasters and protectrons, although a bit more advanced because they were created through Shaun's DNA lol.
i always remember Mr. benet's quote about synths dreaming and somehow proving that they have souls lol, he's probably the dumbest most delusional scientist the institute has working for them lol, and i honestly have no idea why they even have him in this position in the first place, especially since he took for himself a synth as a sex bot wife lol, but i suppose for someone as delusional as him, it makes sense that he would struggle to get with a real women and choose the synth instead, because you could always program a synth to like you, it actually kind of makes me wonder if he's the reason the synths have this flaw in their programming of wanting to be free as he's the head of his robotics division and he just says it's a glitch in the system when it was intentional from the beginning.
so what happens to a synth's programming is directly related to his influence on the synths as a whole, but then again if the synths have this flaw they also appear to be more human which makes them perfect infiltrators of the commonwealth, so maybe Mr. benet does a good job in making them come off as sounding like real humans from this understanding, but if this is a intentional program from his influence on the project, it's likely the reason why the synths make for such great infiltrators for the institute, but man is he delusional and so are the railroad as a whole.
I think anyone would find the Railroad ridiculous if synths really aren't more than a human looking chat bot.
But, IF you go with the idea that synths are more than the sum of their computer parts and that the organic part of them is responsible for the ghost in the machine, the Railroad's crusade is a lot easier to get on board with.

well i suppose we can think of that flaw from the perspective that it's caused because of Shaun's DNA, which means because these synths are biomechanical the human DNA aspect is struggling with the programming which is causing that flaw in the programming, but again it goes along with the story because this is what the institute needed and what Shaun needed to make the perfect infiltrators for the institute, however i do wonder where the black courser DNA is from, did they just alter the skin color and voice of the synth or did they find some African American DNA in Shaun's line of ancestors where he has a little black in him? lol idk, or maybe it's using that Oberland scientist DNA and for some reason it's the best DNA sequence for the courser generation synths.
i'm probably asking to many questions that make to much sense and don't have any answer to them, but why are there only 2 black guys in the institute and why not more of them or less due to DNA race mixing through the generations, did these guys come later and were not born in the institute or were they on ice for a while and the institute just unfroze them?
to many questions that have no answer to them and making this conversation awkward because there is no reason that would make sense in the lore.
sorry, i think about stuff like this in this game, because this game really makes you think about it's writing and factions, and sometimes things just don't click or make a whole lot of sense, another thing is where did the female courser chase come from?, was she a synth created through Shaun's DNA or some other scientist within the institute?
hmn, this makes me think, i have yet to play the game with x6-88 when going to far harbor yet in any of my playthroughs, so i have no idea what kind of dialogue he has added onto that DLC if any, that's one thing i really love about this game, there is always something new to try out given my choices and some of them i have yet to complete them in this way, normally when i go to far harbor i either go alone or with Nick for the dima story, but i have never gone there with x6.
What dialogue would X6-88 add to Far Harbor? Good question.
I agree that the institute is conspicuously white--and I'm not talking about the uniforms--Shaun's DNA would hold the keys to tons and tons of genes that weren't dominant in him, but were recessive somewhere in his background. Probably most traits in the human genome would be found hiding somewhere in most of us. With pretty much every possibility available, even just in Shaun's DNA, it's odd to see so little synth diversity (inside the institute at any rate) and only one female courser.
Glory also says that she's sad that we have to destroy gen 1 synths which are not even human adjacent, so liberating toasters is not a stretch
