Here's how I beat the campaign of this game: 1. Don't build small stations in cities. Ever. Unless it's the start of the game, but upgrade to the normal train station asap. 2. If you can expand, do it. Don't wait for your competitors. 3. 2 stations is the max that each city in the game can have. Use this knowledge to block your competitors from accessing your cities. 40k is a price worth paying for that. 4. Always use 2 parallel tracks with a diamond crossing at the start of each city, and use one-way signals going in opposite directions. 5. Transporting passengers can get you a lot of money if there are enough of them. If the amount of passengers that want to go to a city is at/above 10, use a second station in these cities and have express trains transport passengers between them. Do this in conjunction with #3 if you can. 6. Use large train stations as two train stations in one. You can do this to avoid your trains waiting in a line to unload their stuff at the city.
This video was very comprehensive and thoughtful. You're very right about the tutorial being weak. I found your video validating a number of things I have been learning on my own recently, but also filling in many knowledge gaps I had (some of it barely intermediate level knowledge, but I was not aware of it - like distributing the track usage at stations). This should be considered a must-watch video for anyone new to the game. At least for after they play the initial tutorial - so they know their ABC's. I found I have wasted alot of time and effort in my first 42 hours of playing the game and I was doing a few things wrong. I especially liked your mention of how to avoid trains running back through supply station loaded with things for another city (shared trains). I used to keep thinking to myself - why is the city loading things onto the train, does it not know the next stop is a supply, and that will block loading supplies for the other city? You did a good job of showing us what the game does and does not account for in its management processes. The game is very well-designed and elegant in how it works (once you know many of the tips and tricks shown in this video), but new players definitely need to learn the nuances of station management and track layouts instead of just plugging everything in and expecting the game will choose the smartest way to balance things. Great video! at first I was scared of the video being almost 30 min long, but it was really clear and to the point with the agenda and all the topics. I ended up sitting down and soaking it all up. Many other guides talk forever and repeats themselves, as well as building the map from the ground before getting to the point. your map was ready to illuatrate and you where clear in what you wanted to tell. I am new to the game and trying to balance my line and feeding the cities. thank you for the good explainer
Big brain moment..side note the supply tower can like attach on to idk 8 tracks if there side by side, also could be good to adding a small extra track on the supply tower so multiple trains can refill or can go around besides of waiting

I was starting to double track heavy areas, and this was a eureka seeing the whole map done this way. Also, the warehouse info was so scant anywhere I looked, and this clarified that a lot as well. tips to add on warehouses its ok at the beginning to have Maintenance sheds near them but it damages the throughput of waiting for trains for maintenance. After Signaling hold Ctrl then add interlinear signals to handle more trains on a single line.... As well 11:40 when explain the Station expansions Always have a Dedicated Freight Line line and a have a Dedicated Passenger Lines. I usually use the 2 inner most tracks on a station one for each. This is for your towns to grow and also you will achieve express lanes much quicker.

I am exclusively using Stations with signaling integrated. For the 20 000$ difference, the trains can use whatever track in the station. The money spent is paid off rapidly because the trains are not blocked as much.
11:40 wouldn't it be best to connect the 2 rails to the center ones, instead of the side ones? That way the connection would cause way less traffic jams
Hey i always build so many sattions and also have so many trains runing, how can you have so less trains but still make money? can you do a coaching for me?
Why not just run one separate line and just have one train on one track? You can literally have nothing but one train on one track going back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth and it's more cost-efficient because you're not spending money on extra track
Cool Video. But what i rly dont understand is that you cant place more than 2 paralell tracks on bridge its rly annoying and i dont understand it all. Anyone has an explanation ?
I really hope it'll be fixed in the sequel coming out, there's no real reason for not being able to build a wider bridge with more lanes if you can pay for it. But We can still build several bridges side-by-side and meet the tracks back again when they gets back on land though.

Pre-signaled stations are fine, desirable even in places where the placement is practical. Not all cities are tucked away inside 4 rivers after all.

Always use the multi signal mode to put many signals in between, which allows full use of your tracks.

The number of trains you can place on a line is the number of blocks (signals) MINUS 1... not times two.
