And then Kansas City, Kansas just straight up copied the name to try and steal trade from Kansas City, Missouri.

The fact he actually went to the locations is beyond insane imo, and I'm surprised nobodys really talking about it haha
I know! The effort they put in for a tiny bit is so ridiculously funny 😂
That's just a place, we're focusing on what's important. Which is games and spelling
I don't think it's *that* insane. Totally doable with the budget a successful youtube channel probably has.
What's insane is that the _loser_ gets to go to these places. As a "punishment."
@@tomslastname5560 still a commitment or time, money, and potential risk in several ways depending on what you get just for a joke. The money is obviously the smallest problem, everybody knows that and that wasn’t the point

Jay not understanding a basic premise on several occasions was very entertaining.
I'd love to see more of these.
Jay seems to know many things. How games work is, apparently, not among them.
Wow. You’d love my life 🙄
i cant believe map men are a gaming channel now, looking forward to the minecraft letsplay next week.
Nope nope nope nope nope nope!
They should rename to Gaming Men since they're so bad at GeoGussr
At 15:08, you can see Mark trying to contain his laughter as he walks off-screen and for a split second you hear him bust out laughing before the clip cuts lol

The street names, mostly in Gaelic, are the same thing. Sràid na h-Eaglaise is literally translated as "Church Street", but he's bouncing around trying to find the street name, and doesn't realize he has it because he doesn't know how to read Gaelic, haha.
@@OhhCrapGuy It actually says Church Street in tiny letters underneath, too.
Is Tromso a famous town? even if they noticed that that word was written in a few places it's not immediately identifiable as a town name and the rules stated they can't google anything
@@janTasita oh, couldn't see that, must be my eyes
@@VaultConI would expect two geography-interested Brits to have heard of the place, yes. It's quite a common tourist destination for British people.
When I was 17 years old my girlfriend who I met in the Capital of Turkey was from Bursa. I wrote dozens of letters and mailed them to Bursa, Turkey when I was in my late teens. I haven't thought of that place in years. It was so nice to be reminded of the place. It strange to think that that young girl I knew in the 1980s is now likely a 55 year old elementary school teacher getting closer to retirement.
What a beautiful story
I know it's a long shot, but how cool would it be if you wrote her a letter now and she actually got it and responded?
Crazy stuff, man. But hella cool!
As someone with a Turkish girlfriend, whose face lit up when the distinctly-Turkish roadsigns and markings turned up, I can relate!
The way Jay always sends Mark to random countries to record short segments haha
Several signs saying Tromsø
Mapmen: Oslo? Bergen?
Missed all the "Bursa" signs too.
Loved that one too. At least 3 signs directly saying Tromsø within the first 20 seconds of the round and they went entirely unnoticed.
I was thinking the same thing!
They're mapmen not signmen
Me looking at the bridge: is that Tromsø? Big TROMSØ HAVN sign: yeeeees it is.
Not only did I enjoy playing along with both rounds as well as the special bonus round, I love how the music from Chip's Challenge was used as background music. That was one of my favorite computer games. "Bummer!"
Thai watcher here! Easy way to tell the difference between Thai, Khmer and Laos Script- Khmer is the pointiest and most angular, Laos is the most swirly and rounded, and thai is somewhere in between!
thanks for helping me out on future geoguessr games!
Non thai guy here! If I had to describe the Thai script, I'd say "It's a bunch of branches." Straight lines with curly bits (leaves) at the ends!

What pointed me out was the hammer and sickle flag. There is only 1 place.
Woah, this is the first time I've heard Jay and Mark talk unscripted for such a long time! (this is what I would say if I didn't know that you make up videos on the spot all the time and you are just really really good at it :-)
I think this is the first time on a video.
I can’t have been the only one thinking the ‘trip to Bermuda’ was going to be a surfshark ad
100%! 😂
I was so sure I had already skipped thirty seconds
this is like watching a your parents who dont love each other anymore play mario kart with your little brother and i love it
Map Men playing GeoGuessr, my life is complete
Yall should collab
RIGHT
I loved this episode so much.
Especially Bermuda. My grandmother was from Bermuda, so I recognised it fairly quickly, and I’m talking to you through the screen saying, “Bermuda. That’s Bermuda.” Then you’re searching down in the Caribbean and I’m shouting, “NO, THAT’S NOT WHERE BERMUDA IS!”
I hope you enjoyed your visit, Mark.
And I'm like "You lost but you get to go to Bermuda." Like it's a very beautiful place.
Me too! I'm not from Bermuda but being North American we know that Bermuda is much farther north than the Caribbean. lol
We have big American school buses in Canada too. The reason you can tell it's the US is at 4:00 where you can see a US-style railroad crossing sign. The Canadian one is completely different
Also the interstate sign obviously but they hadn't found that yet
i wanted to leave a comment about our school busses too but clearly OntarioTrafficMan is a much better authority than i so i'll let you handle it :3
Cuba has those buses for public transport, or at least they had them in 2006 when we were there. They do not get a lot of snow though.
@@kellydalstok8900 In school bus yellow?
Huh. Guess I didn't cross many railroads in Canada. Never knew there was a difference.
I really wasn't ready for, "I guess I'm off to *******."
"Immediately. See you soon."
And I was even less ready for round two to start seemingly immediately on return and result in the also-immediate commencement of the second forfeit.
You didn't need to do that, and whether it was just editing or truly immediate, that decision raised this video from all the way from "jolly" to '"jolly bloomin' splendid".
Tour guide: So what is your reason for visiting this monument?
Mark: I lost a Geoguessr bet to my friend and he made me to go here
No Mark has no friend. 😂
I love the Norway part. So many missed clues.
16:01 "Tromsø Taxi"
16:03 "Tromsø Outdoor Sjøgata 14"
16:14 "Røde Kors Tromsø"
16:43 "Tromsø Havn Prostneset"
Plus a couple more small ones not worth mentioning.
yeah no i was mentally screaming
They probably just assumed that Tromsø was just the common name for "hard to identify little town with a good sized body of water nearby".
I as well wouldn't be able to place Tromsø on a map without help. Before this video.
I love the idea that you went to those places, spent 30 seconds at the location to take the photo then went straight home again.
Also I love the idea that the button actually does nothing at all and everything is done in post
Flying thousands of miles for a joke is hilarious, I really love climate change too!

Gotta say, I absolutely love seeing these two in a much more casual setting, they have great chemistry on camera and they are just geniunely entertaining to watch, would love to see more GeoGuessr from you two!
Please do more of these, they're incredible.
They'll need more sponsors to afford all those random trips
I did not think they would actually go to Bermuda, you guys are the best for little gags.
I'm sorry, but this MUST be a regular feature. Brilliant to see you both play this. Though dont ever stop your regular Map Men videos, they are superb :)

The Lego Movie is also an enjoyable product placement, 100 minutes of it.
I know right, them at the beginning being like ‘I hope people like us now we’re acting like ourselves’ like they aren’t naturally witty and entertaining. Absolutely loved this
That's like saying that pro geoguessr channels are nothing but product placement channels. This video is simply a case of a geography-themed entertainment channel making content that aligns with the interests of their audience.
17:50 I knew Tromso and the Mapmen didn't! Ma, look!
The chuckle from Jay at 9:40 is exactly why I watch Map Men.
First sign he saw: Stornoway High Church
Jay: let's go one crossing further, might've been the sign for the next church.
My family once bamboozled an estate agent with "Torquay" vs "Turkey" confusion, as it happens.
We were trying to convince them to let us view a house in Surrey, and said we'd travelled all the way from Torquay (the one in Devon). However, since we're a bit melanin-ated, the estate agent assumed we'd come all the way from Turkey, took pity on us, and let us view the extra house. You've got to get some benefits from stereotypes sometimes :)
Bonus points if your melanin-ation comes from nowhere near Turkey, like the Philippines
every time a british person hears my american accent, they ask where I am from, I am british so I say "Surrey," they always think I said "Syria."
Bonus points if your melanin-ation comes from someplace nowhere near Turkey, like the Philippines.
Bonus points if you're ethnically Chinese or someplace else not even close to Turkey.

The one in Rio is right where my highschool used to be. Anyone from Caxias will immediately know where that is due to that awful looking building in the background, which people dubbed "White Elephant" because of how much it stands out.

Only just started watching but already loving this video. Love playing Geoguessr and great to see Mark and Jay testing each others knowledge. Also great just to see how Mark and Jay naturally interact with each other
That passive-aggressive way Mark said Antarctica has the most extreme seasons in the world is soooooo like a teacher
Missourian here. Regarding the fun fact at 5:15... there is Kansas City, Missouri; Kansas City, Kansas; and Kansas the state. And they all exist in pretty much the same spot, so yeah it's confusing to people who aren't from that area. To be fair though, Kansas City, Missouri existed first, and was named "City of Kansas" before the territory that would become the state of Kansas even had a name. And then Kansas City, Kansas just straight up copied the name to try and steal trade from Kansas City, Missouri.
I love seeing them be themselves. It's so lovely to have this almost behind-the-scenes feeling of a video
"hey honey, how was your day?"
"I lost a bet and now I have to fly to Bermuda!"

I like going along with the fantasy that he really did go immediately. "Hi, honey, where have you been?!"

"Can you see snow?"
"Snes!"

"Yes I can see snow."
I love that Mark got shy about saying combining snow and yes.
