I actually enjoyed this campaign, about as much as Cold War's campaign. I appreciate them trying to do some different stuff, even if it doesn't land 100% of the time

Although the ending kinda felt flat because we didn't get to storm D.C. for one last shootout, this campaign's fun factor is off the chart for me, one of the most replayable campaigns out there like OG MW2 and BO2.

I mean. They knew which car he was in. And those cars are built like..well. tanks. Those cars can survive a crash, and you see the car the dude is, you know. Not exploded? So they bomb the cars in front, meaning the cars in the back... just crash. It wasn't a bombardment it was one missile, In a we can tell by the blast. Not that strong of one.
As much as I enjoyed playing this campaign myself, you made experiencing it a second time a lot of fun. Great commentary and comedy, my man. While there's a part of me that still really hopes to see big, epic scaled battles from the perspective of an average soldier in the modern CoD engine, this game's campaign was incredibly well done and I thought it was creative from start to finish.
I personally enjoyed this campaign. Actually fun, replayable, not buggy like 22 and 23, and even the special elites didnt feel bullshit. Raven is 2 for 2 on campaigns. I was still a bit disapointed we didnt get super soldier powers after the "Emergence" mission since it was literally called "Emergence", and the fact we didnt get to join Pantheon like we could Perseus felt like a step back from CW. Also the soundtrack was just fucking awesome the whole game, got me super into the campaign when I went through on Veteran blind. Fuck RPG soldiers on Veteran.
I finally got around to watching this after I beat it myself on Vet and yeah I pretty much feel the exact same way as you do about it all. I think the presentation is good, characters are (with the exception of "the villain") interesting and extremely well acted, and it does a good job of having unique ideas and set pieces. Cold War definitely was a lot more cohesive and was a million times better at telling the story of your character and giving you decently satisfying endings to choose. Even then I did enjoy this one a lot as well and I'd say that it mostly succeeds at being a good modern-day CoD game. I've been along for the ride since the AW days, and while I do occasionally miss the guides, I'm definitely a bigger fan of the longer form content nowadays since the camo and challenge guides really did limit your creativity. I always love the subtle Destiny jokes or references to current things you throw in the playthroughs. Really enjoyed this one, I'm glad you found some enjoyment from it as well :)

I enjoyed the campaign quite a lot. Was nice to have some genuinely frightening moments and a mix of slow missions and full on high octane ones. Shame it wasn't a little longer
I fear if they made it longer, they'd give us more of the stereotypical CoD missions like the sniper mission or the gunship mission instead of trying the lots of new stuff they did in this campaign
as a Treyarch fanboy, out of all the reboot era this is my favorite one so far aside from cold war. Love the zombies, find the multiplayer fun and the campaign I rank slightly higher than cold wars.
Can't wait to hear your takes on it. Honestly it's a vibe though in the beginning, with how you root for the campaign to at least be solid. Definitely am one of those few and far campaign players, since offline replayability goes a long way with games nowadays.
As to what you were saying at the end of the video, i think its awesome that you're branching out and playing a bunch of games you've missed out on all these years. I found your channel recently probably like many others through your halo CE Legendary play through and i love what you're doing and find your commentary really fun and funny. watched all of halo 2 as well and loved seeing your perspective on it. can't wait to see what you try next that you haven't played, if i may i'd like to suggest my favorite game of all time Bioshock. its still a FPS but with some RPG elements and could be a fun one if you don't know much about it. Also Looking forward to some more Halo if or when you get to them. Keep up the awesome work dude!
One thing I loved about this campaign is how much it made me think. From the different paths of missions, stumbling my way through the safe in the safehouse for the first time, all to the way thinking if what we know about zombies is true. Because in the test footage, the cradle doesn't turn them into zombies, we only ever see zombies while case is under the influence of the cradle, and at the end of the mission, over Marshal and Sav. So what if technically we're the infected ones, and the zombies we're seeing are either other people infecfed, or civilians?
It definitely ain't my CoD (then again, I am an oldhead who still replays the original Modern Warfare Trilogy from time to time) but I can certainly appreciate this, rather than whatever the hell MWIII was supposed to be At least there's some genuine effort and passion in this one. Sometimes weirdly placed and focused towards things I normaly wouldn't associate with CoD, but I can respect it
A bit late here but just wanted to say in regards to the more recent content, I've really enjoyed the non cod stuff. Seeing you play through the Halos for your first time is awesome, really excited for 3 ODST and Reach, maybe you'll try the gears of war trilogy at some point. It's cool getting to vicariously experience games for the first time again that I grew up with. It sounds ridiculous but you're the right kind of internet personality for it! Anyway thanks for playing through this I would literally never have seen it otherwise lol
You know I kind of get the feeling these guys don't actually like Case that much. Always sending him off on his own, or to giving him the job of getting captured and beaten up, not even mentioning him after his heroic sacrifice, etc.
This campaign was good but I still like Black Ops Cold War better. That game felt like the choices mattered more and also the ending was more epic... This one ended kind of on a low note, but still satisfactory enough, I guess lol but the mission designs were really interesting and varied, definitely surprised with it
To the last thing you said: yes I found you through CoD content, but I’m no longer playing CoD myself. So I’m actually staying because of you and your content. In my opinion, you can play whatever you like and I would continue watching it. Part of your best content is playing what you like and what you are good at.
That mimic sequence reminded me alot of the tempest Easter egg in outbreak for cold war. The tons of mimics, and the close quarters combat reminded me of it
To answer the question of “what people want to see” whatever parts you’re adding your own part to is good, don’t care exactly what it is because you’re an entertaining guy and I’m here for that, not specifically “boring inbetween bits” vs “action bits”, think of them as the ‘non sour’ and ‘on sour’ bits
"Who is that, am I supposed to recognize them." Said the exact same thing at that ending. To be frank, the ending is probably the worst part of the game, along with Case just...not really existing anymore. Like with Bell at the end of Cold War, I don't know what it is with the recent Black Ops games and having named protagonists with backstories that are somewhat developed and just having them fucking die at the end. Marshall doesn't even care, really, it doesn't sound like it. He's just like "Livingstone listened, everyone's safe, it's over." He doesn't make any attempt to figure out if Case is even alive, he had to have seen the helicopter go down.
Yeah, it's funny how Lazar showed more concern for Bell, Bell being a russian terrorist extresmist, than Marshall does for someone who is seemingly his best friend

Granted, I don't think Bell deserved what he got at the end of Black Ops Cold War, because at the end of the day, in the canon ending, he did choose to give good information on where Perseus was despite him being fully aware of what was done to him.

Can't also say if marshall also worried about Case or not because as far as i am aware we don't know if he's alive or dead (let's hope they make this clear on warzone at least)
I enjoyed the campaign, but as someone with a fear of zombies, the 6th mission threw me for a loop and made me like it a lot less. Plus the ending was just meh in my opinion. I didn’t really care about Harrow’s backstory and the attempt to make us feel bad for her. It also felt rushed and like we were missing an end mission. The bombs just magically went away and everyone was safe at the end of the game.

I really liked this campaign. Hunting Season ended up being my favorite mission in the game, because it felt like Conflict: Desert Storm to me. It’s easily how the open combat missions should have been in MWIII. The ending imo could have been better. Though I still don’t hate it and they at least tell you what happened in DC. My only gripe is how unnecessarily hard some of the enemies were. Along with the fact that someone at Treyarch thought it would be funny to drop you into the wide open while being shot at. All in all this has been the best campaign experience since Cold War in my humble opinion.
I actually really liked the campaign but the cannon event mix ins and changes gave me whiplash, half of one game, a quarter of another and smaller parts from another, i liked the puzzles and i power leveled cash missions to go crazy
Pretty neat story, though I hope in the end it's actually a full on twist and it's the AMericans who are deranged and ruining themselves from within. Edit: It was a total cop-out that Harrow's family wasn't outright killed by the CIA with Adler involved in it.
Just got finished with this video, obviously. Generally enjoyed the whole thing, because S0ur video. One thing I'd actually like to touch on is Harrow as a villain, and how I came to like her a whole lot more when my partner played through the campaign and talked on the character. Like you, I thought she was a pretty functional villain, doing the whole evil thing pretty well, albeit incompetently. However, my partner talked on something very interesting about said character and actually made me kinda love her as a character, and definitely has her sitting as my favourite CoD villain. She clearly deals with DID. DID, is Dissociative Identity Disorder, looking up the disorder is recommended. Her, uh, patheticness throughout the campaign makes sense since she's effectively just a powerful, mentally ill person being puppeted around by an organization that really hates the CIA. For some background, my partner deals with DID. It's a very scary disorder to see, and also one very hard to represent in media. With her insight, as well as my experience being around somebody with the disorder, Jane Harrow actually does a good job representing said disorder. To break it down throughout the campaign: At the start, Troy says something to the effect of "she works really hard." Pretty basic, she's good at her job but a pretty big thing from my partner is distracting herself. Putting something in front of you to have something physical to focus on instead of your own thoughts and emotions. In Most Wanted, she has a very clear tone shift, both in actual tone but also emotion towards you. She seems more, frustrated when she sees you. This isn't consistent with how Jane views the characters up to this point. She seems almost annoyed that you showed up and is clearly pushing you to leave. This also shifts in the cutscene at the end, when she's speaking to Troy, she's noticeably calmer and almost seems confused and concerned about what happened at the Gala, despite being the one who set it up. Throughout Emergence, you hear Jane's voice in your ear, in a very calm, reassuring tone. This is very different to how she is in Most Wanted, and seems to be when Case was going through the testing regarding The Cradle. Also a stark contrast to the Jane we see at the end of mission as well. She's very cold, distant and pretty rude to Gusev. She's very laser focused on the efficency of the weapon, which is very consistent with this personality, which from this point forward will be referred to as "Harrow." In Vorkuta, she DOES hype herself up as this super cool awesome evil villain, only to get completely bozo'd on. This is a great place to use some real life comparison here. My partner, who has a personality that's just REALLY angry all the time, oftentimes will build itself up and act like the greatest thing since sliced bread, despite being quite pathetic. From my partner "One of our favourite things that that specific personality has said was that they were the "next step in human evolution." I have no recollection of ever even saying that, but, uh, that personality has certainly said some of the dumbest things ever. So, this is a pretty accurate in that regard." Oh boy, Seperation Anxiety! From my partner "I like the name of this one. DID or separated personalities, hehe. I like that it's essentially a joke about being anxious about the idea of separation." To start, Harrow gets dragged into the room. She's very insulting on meaningless things, like the fact that Woods got kneecapped, referring to him as half a person. Before each gameplay section, we catch up with Troy, Jane, Harrow and Woods in a very well done representation of the inside of her mind. The lines showing her general levels of distress. Troy or Jane speaking typically evoke less movement here, with Woods' more aggressive sounding tone or Harrow speaking causing more distress. Also, the heavy focus on breathing is great here! It's one of my partner's first steps in grounding herself. To start the actual gameplay, we're dropped into the shoes of Jane, who instantly opens with a line I've heard out of my partner before. "I would never do that." Which, uh, yeah she wouldn't. Just like my wonderful partner would do things she wouldn't otherwise on account of her condition. It's a hard line to hear for both of us, and is definitely probably the standout line of that entire mission, as well as the "DID Harrow" theory as a whole. I'll condense the rest of this into key points, because we'd be here all night 1. Hearing the door shut, it has the "distress" lines happen in the loading screen. She's instantly back to her childhood, when her parents were shot, and the place where the disorder would have developed. She's clearly very young, seemingly around 6, but definetly less than 10. Which, DID typically develops around 6-8 years old. 2. The mirror is also great here! You actually mentioned how bad it looks, very blurry. My partner actually really likes this detail, almost like it's something she doesn't want to remember. Repressed memories, essentially. Which is something else the disorder typically does. Dissociative Amnesia would be the proper term. 3. Still on the mirror, seeing Harrow for the first time in the eyes of Jane! She's, uh, very over the top. Being physically bigger than Jane, her hair doing this weird floating thing, a deeper voice with an echo to it and of course, the Hatred leather jacket. My partner loves that she "has the guy from Hatred's leather jacket, because she is a loser." This is actually one thing my partner pointed out as really good, as she often views that personality as a more imposing one. She literally feels bigger in those moments, having a deeper voice as she recalls these moments. She also wanted me to mention that she's short. 4. During the Vorkuta sequence, there are FAR too many things here. The main thing we like is a lot of spotty memories, with nothing really being cohesive. My partner's recollection of memories are very sporadic. Without proper prompting, her early years are all very incoherent. Early memories are all very confusing, especially with knowing what actually happened in moments. Which leads me to 5. The bedroom part with Adler, and not Adler, and maybe Adler? We don't know! Which is why it's great. Harrow spends all of these scenes asserting that it was Adler, with Jane staying quiet as Woods protests. Jane being quiet is a standout here, as she's remembering the things here, flashing through a handful of guys as Harrow continues to assert that it was Adler. My partner's other personality is very matter of fact, focusing on one specific thing that happens in a moment, even if the truth is uncertain, or outright contradicts this. 6. One specific line my partner wanted me to mention is after the mother is shot. Verbatim, it's "Save yourself, whatever you have to do." This is VERY on the nose, as the disorder develops as a very extreme defense mechanism, so she quite literally sectioned off parts of her emotion into a different personality. One which is very extreme due to only experiencing that emotion. As I said, there's a LOT. Hopefully the general idea is across here. It's a fantastic section. It's partner's favourite Call of Duty mission, and her second favourite depiction of DID after Mae Borowski from Night in the Woods. It's good. Also, to end the in game stuff. It's very hard to watch Jane die at the end, because she is clearly coming down from being Harrow for a while, and having to process what's happening as Case beats her to death. All in all, Jane is actually a fantastically written character, and a VERY unique villain in that she's not actually much of a villain, and moreso a scapegoat for the Pantheon. A message from my lovely partner to end it all off "I think a lot of people are going to generally not think too much of Jane as a character, which I think is due to the fact that she is a very well written character with DID as a focal point. It's a fairly uncommon and not well known disorder that roughly 1.5% of the population deals with, but I do definitely appreciate the representation that is done, very on the nose but, surprisingly well. Love the video, as a watch and relax before bed with my partner by the way. Fantastic as usual."
Only complaint is I miss when the playable character in campaign had dialogue. The dialogue gave life to the story. Black ops 1 and 2 showed just how much it can add to the story. Having YOUR character reply. Removing that feature from a game makes it seem more robotic. Like you're just a lifeless doll. Case should've been voice acted
Having "YOUR character reply" was only in Black Ops 3 when it comes to voice acting. It had a custom character. Black Ops 1 and 2 did not. Now, none of the characters are really yours but you get the point.

"Who is that, am I supposed to recognize them." Said the exact same thing at that ending. To be frank, the ending is probably the worst part of the game, along with Case just...not really existing anymore. Like with Bell at the end of Cold War, I don't know what it is with the recent Black Ops games and having named protagonists with backstories that are somewhat developed and just having them fucking die at the end.
Marshall doesn't even care, really, it doesn't sound like it. He's just like "Livingstone listened, everyone's safe, it's over." He doesn't make any attempt to figure out if Case is even alive, he had to have seen the helicopter go down.
Yeah, it's funny how Lazar showed more concern for Bell, Bell being a russian terrorist extresmist, than Marshall does for someone who is seemingly his best friend

Granted, I don't think Bell deserved what he got at the end of Black Ops Cold War, because at the end of the day, in the canon ending, he did choose to give good information on where Perseus was despite him being fully aware of what was done to him.

I enjoyed the campaign, but as someone with a fear of zombies, the 6th mission threw me for a loop and made me like it a lot less. Plus the ending was just meh in my opinion. I didn’t really care about Harrow’s backstory and the attempt to make us feel bad for her. It also felt rushed and like we were missing an end mission. The bombs just magically went away and everyone was safe at the end of the game.

I really liked this campaign. Hunting Season ended up being my favorite mission in the game, because it felt like Conflict: Desert Storm to me. It’s easily how the open combat missions should have been in MWIII. The ending imo could have been better. Though I still don’t hate it and they at least tell you what happened in DC. My only gripe is how unnecessarily hard some of the enemies were. Along with the fact that someone at Treyarch thought it would be funny to drop you into the wide open while being shot at. All in all this has been the best campaign experience since Cold War in my humble opinion.
I actually really liked the campaign but the cannon event mix ins and changes gave me whiplash, half of one game, a quarter of another and smaller parts from another, i liked the puzzles and i power leveled cash missions to go crazy

Just got finished with this video, obviously. Generally enjoyed the whole thing, because S0ur video. One thing I'd actually like to touch on is Harrow as a villain, and how I came to like her a whole lot more when my partner played through the campaign and talked on the character. Like you, I thought she was a pretty functional villain, doing the whole evil thing pretty well, albeit incompetently.
However, my partner talked on something very interesting about said character and actually made me kinda love her as a character, and definitely has her sitting as my favourite CoD villain. She clearly deals with DID. DID, is Dissociative Identity Disorder, looking up the disorder is recommended. Her, uh, patheticness throughout the campaign makes sense since she's effectively just a powerful, mentally ill person being puppeted around by an organization that really hates the CIA.
For some background, my partner deals with DID. It's a very scary disorder to see, and also one very hard to represent in media. With her insight, as well as my experience being around somebody with the disorder, Jane Harrow actually does a good job representing said disorder.
To break it down throughout the campaign:
At the start, Troy says something to the effect of "she works really hard." Pretty basic, she's good at her job but a pretty big thing from my partner is distracting herself. Putting something in front of you to have something physical to focus on instead of your own thoughts and emotions.
In Most Wanted, she has a very clear tone shift, both in actual tone but also emotion towards you. She seems more, frustrated when she sees you. This isn't consistent with how Jane views the characters up to this point. She seems almost annoyed that you showed up and is clearly pushing you to leave. This also shifts in the cutscene at the end, when she's speaking to Troy, she's noticeably calmer and almost seems confused and concerned about what happened at the Gala, despite being the one who set it up.
Throughout Emergence, you hear Jane's voice in your ear, in a very calm, reassuring tone. This is very different to how she is in Most Wanted, and seems to be when Case was going through the testing regarding The Cradle. Also a stark contrast to the Jane we see at the end of mission as well. She's very cold, distant and pretty rude to Gusev. She's very laser focused on the efficency of the weapon, which is very consistent with this personality, which from this point forward will be referred to as "Harrow."
In Vorkuta, she DOES hype herself up as this super cool awesome evil villain, only to get completely bozo'd on. This is a great place to use some real life comparison here. My partner, who has a personality that's just REALLY angry all the time, oftentimes will build itself up and act like the greatest thing since sliced bread, despite being quite pathetic. From my partner "One of our favourite things that that specific personality has said was that they were the "next step in human evolution." I have no recollection of ever even saying that, but, uh, that personality has certainly said some of the dumbest things ever. So, this is a pretty accurate in that regard."
Oh boy, Seperation Anxiety!
From my partner "I like the name of this one. DID or separated personalities, hehe. I like that it's essentially a joke about being anxious about the idea of separation."
To start, Harrow gets dragged into the room. She's very insulting on meaningless things, like the fact that Woods got kneecapped, referring to him as half a person. Before each gameplay section, we catch up with Troy, Jane, Harrow and Woods in a very well done representation of the inside of her mind. The lines showing her general levels of distress. Troy or Jane speaking typically evoke less movement here, with Woods' more aggressive sounding tone or Harrow speaking causing more distress. Also, the heavy focus on breathing is great here! It's one of my partner's first steps in grounding herself.
To start the actual gameplay, we're dropped into the shoes of Jane, who instantly opens with a line I've heard out of my partner before. "I would never do that." Which, uh, yeah she wouldn't. Just like my wonderful partner would do things she wouldn't otherwise on account of her condition. It's a hard line to hear for both of us, and is definitely probably the standout line of that entire mission, as well as the "DID Harrow" theory as a whole. I'll condense the rest of this into key points, because we'd be here all night
1. Hearing the door shut, it has the "distress" lines happen in the loading screen. She's instantly back to her childhood, when her parents were shot, and the place where the disorder would have developed. She's clearly very young, seemingly around 6, but definetly less than 10. Which, DID typically develops around 6-8 years old.
2. The mirror is also great here! You actually mentioned how bad it looks, very blurry. My partner actually really likes this detail, almost like it's something she doesn't want to remember. Repressed memories, essentially. Which is something else the disorder typically does. Dissociative Amnesia would be the proper term.
3. Still on the mirror, seeing Harrow for the first time in the eyes of Jane! She's, uh, very over the top. Being physically bigger than Jane, her hair doing this weird floating thing, a deeper voice with an echo to it and of course, the Hatred leather jacket. My partner loves that she "has the guy from Hatred's leather jacket, because she is a loser." This is actually one thing my partner pointed out as really good, as she often views that personality as a more imposing one. She literally feels bigger in those moments, having a deeper voice as she recalls these moments. She also wanted me to mention that she's short.
4. During the Vorkuta sequence, there are FAR too many things here. The main thing we like is a lot of spotty memories, with nothing really being cohesive. My partner's recollection of memories are very sporadic. Without proper prompting, her early years are all very incoherent. Early memories are all very confusing, especially with knowing what actually happened in moments. Which leads me to
5. The bedroom part with Adler, and not Adler, and maybe Adler? We don't know! Which is why it's great. Harrow spends all of these scenes asserting that it was Adler, with Jane staying quiet as Woods protests. Jane being quiet is a standout here, as she's remembering the things here, flashing through a handful of guys as Harrow continues to assert that it was Adler. My partner's other personality is very matter of fact, focusing on one specific thing that happens in a moment, even if the truth is uncertain, or outright contradicts this.
6. One specific line my partner wanted me to mention is after the mother is shot. Verbatim, it's "Save yourself, whatever you have to do." This is VERY on the nose, as the disorder develops as a very extreme defense mechanism, so she quite literally sectioned off parts of her emotion into a different personality. One which is very extreme due to only experiencing that emotion.
As I said, there's a LOT. Hopefully the general idea is across here. It's a fantastic section. It's partner's favourite Call of Duty mission, and her second favourite depiction of DID after Mae Borowski from Night in the Woods. It's good.
Also, to end the in game stuff. It's very hard to watch Jane die at the end, because she is clearly coming down from being Harrow for a while, and having to process what's happening as Case beats her to death.
All in all, Jane is actually a fantastically written character, and a VERY unique villain in that she's not actually much of a villain, and moreso a scapegoat for the Pantheon.
A message from my lovely partner to end it all off
"I think a lot of people are going to generally not think too much of Jane as a character, which I think is due to the fact that she is a very well written character with DID as a focal point. It's a fairly uncommon and not well known disorder that roughly 1.5% of the population deals with, but I do definitely appreciate the representation that is done, very on the nose but, surprisingly well. Love the video, as a watch and relax before bed with my partner by the way. Fantastic as usual."

Only complaint is I miss when the playable character in campaign had dialogue. The dialogue gave life to the story. Black ops 1 and 2 showed just how much it can add to the story. Having YOUR character reply. Removing that feature from a game makes it seem more robotic. Like you're just a lifeless doll. Case should've been voice acted
I disagree. I think the campaign was going for the old school feel of games like Bioshock and Half-Life so this works perfectly.
Having "YOUR character reply" was only in Black Ops 3 when it comes to voice acting. It had a custom character. Black Ops 1 and 2 did not.
Now, none of the characters are really yours but you get the point.
