Yes there is such a shortage of youtubers doing video essays on obscure games... it's not like every single up and comer is trying this long boring overcovered strategy. We've all heard about this. I don't know why I'm watching it
90th subscriber and I’m glad I found your video. Brought back so much nostalgia for riding around as the Slim Jim guy with my brother. Love the calm demeanor, humor, and you feel like a big UA-camr. Goin places mah dude 🤙🏻
This was some top notch UA-camr content here. I thought you had like a billion subscribers but was I wrong. Keep up the great content and you'll be there.
Thrasher Skate and Destroy actually came out before Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1. It came out 3 days before thps1 did. And because it didn't go for anywhere near the same approach to skating as thps did, I wouldn't even consider it a knock off.
not to mention you can tell the guy making this video doesnt skate.... the amount of shade he through at this game is insane....any real skater knows to give this game proper praise/
Grind session was also better than he's giving credit. Also, dude has no real idea of any of that being able to play as cardiel, Templeton, willy, or daewon, was sick af. Then you got Cara Beth Burnside (first female with a thrasher cover? I may be mistaken on the first, but still) and if you knew of 151, seeing pigpen was fucking bonkers. Also, evolution skateboarding was a great game. Spent too much time on the sticker editor. Phenomenal line up of dudes, cranker, Getz, Colin McKay, danny way, fucking mark Appleyard and arto. All in all, while thps and it's spin offs will still hold that top level of the time, all these other games at the time to either had to be the first of its kind, or had to try to stand out against the behemoth of pro skater. Ps z axis made thrasher and the Dave Mirra games, Rockstar published thrasher and acclaim did Mirra from what I recall.
I grew up and had both THPS1 and Thrasher Skate and Destroy. Honestly idk if the "slow" he mentioned is accurate, he was probably playing THRASHER on an Emulator and didn't have the Emulator set up properly, so it made the game run slow. I remember THRASHER being more fun than THPS1 sometimes, only difference to me was THPS1 had real life skateboarders where THRASHER was 100% Fictional Characters.
I don't think this creator was able to speak or even born when these games were released. Hes playing emulations decades, he doesn't appreciate what these games were at the time.
Dave Mirra's Freestyle BMX 2 has biggest wipeout mode and the Texas Cloverleaf level, that's why. My friend and I used to play that for hours laughing at getting hit by cars, and we found out that when you hold the grind button after getting hit, your guy holds onto the car and gets dragged out of the stage while building a huge combo
I remember they had a demo for it in Walmart when I was a kid and you were able to bounce in those giant boobs at 22:57 and that blew my child mind away. Thanks Johnny K!
you're missing a big factor to trasher skate n destroy, it's not a ripoff because it was released only three days before thps, which also means before it was before the massive break through in the mainstream skating had
I know that I'm too obsessed with extreme sports games because when you asked "what year do you think this came out" when talking about X-Blades, I immediately and fully confidently said "2002" out loud to myself. Damn I'm an extreme sports game nerd.
There was actually another game in the “Pro” series by activation. They had Shawn Palmer’s Pro Snowboarder I played it all the time on ps2. It was pretty good and had a good soundtrack
holy friggen mandela effect, i was 100% convinced for ages that basket case was on a proskater game, even convinced myself that maybe i had an early copy or the european version had different songs etc due to licensing but its coming back to me now, BMXXX had a banging soundtrack
I’m glad Street Sk8r 2 got some love. I picked up my copy at a K-Mart closing sale. The thing that set it apart from THPS was the level builder. As crude as it was, making “challenge” maps and random dumb parks like all bowls gave it a lot of replay value. I wish Dave Mirra’s got more love, but you summarized why it didn’t well at the end of the video. Like another comment mentioned, the bail mode was awesome. I used to try to hang off the power lines at Woodward park. This game had some great music as well (albeit not many tracks). Cool video, thanks for the nostalgia trip.
this is actually kinda good, what the hell lmao. you've absolutely nailed the pacing and i was concerned for a moment that the "jokes per minute" might get ramped up or tired but you've got that down-pat too. i don't react strongly most of the time but i know i enjoy the jokes when i rewind to take it in again. the skate 3 joke was perfect comedic timing and i'm downright jealous of the "here's the soundtrack" joke. that's the kind of thing i like to see whatever notes you took before and during (perchance even after) making this, keep them backed up and back up those back ups and bury a copy in your nearest park just to be safe (only 9m38s in, so good first impression at the least) Edit: at 10:15 you say 2040p instead of 240. i'm heartbroken at this blatant inaccuracy, my parasocial connection has been destroyed before it could truly blossom
The coach in Go Go Hypergrind I just noticed looks like a lesser known character of Ren and Stimpy called George Liquor who is the master of Ren and Stimpy in the show
Matt Hoffman's pro bmx 2 is not a bad game at all. I have never seen a bad review about that game before this and highly suggest everyone to try it out if you enjoy thps like games!
I loved that game so much as a kid. I was never in to skateboarding but I did like the idea of BMX despite being pretty terrible at it. The soundtrack was also pretty damn good
17:01 The grind balance meter is a hidden feature on the Dreamcast and western versions of the game. The Japanese versions of the game have the grind balance meter enabled by default.
I find that the Disney game NOT getting a sequel was a disappointment. Honestly, with some more characters, like, say, Pepper Ann, Doug, the people from MotorCity, etc., maybe some other Disney Princes and Princesses (Kuzco being a really good one to add, as well as Rapunzel), and this same game engine, it would do well in the modern era.
This was such an enjoyable watch your voice is calm and so nice to listen to, how have you such little subs? this was a great vid dude well done! also the comedy was great aswel.
Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX was actually probably the most popular game on this list in terms of competitor to Tony Hawk lol. Matt Hoffman was already an established BMX-er and this game had a lot of clout at one point, I also think it's really good lol. Especially that soundtrack. God, that soundtrack.....easily on par with THPS music.
There's this one skateboarding game I've been trying to remember the name of. It was in the same vein as pro skater but I remember it having a more cartoonish aesthetic. The big standout feature I remember it having was stage bosses you had to fight as one of your objectives. I also remember the first level being outside a cathedral and the second one being inside a theme park where you could grind on a roller coaster. Anyone know the game I'm talking about?
Theres a 4th game series in the Activision o2 spinoff series, Shaun Palmers Pro Snowboarder. There's also wakeboarding unleashed ft Shaun Murray from the same publisher
The moment I discovered you can pause and get on your roller skates or board at any time in Beach Bandits.... didn't change much. You could also fall out the map on the baseball mound if you purposely try to trick on it at times. I had it on gamecube
My idea of making Grind Session a little better is to make the more hard tricks (Real or not real) for the point shop only so you can still do common tricks
Street Sk8er 2 was probably the very first game I ever played in my life. It is a ripoff, but I really hold this game in a very special place in my heart!
can't believe two of my childhood games that we have on ps2 are ofc on here 😂 one being the disney's extreme skate one and the other one is the one before
it's pretty difficult being an extreme sports game post-Tony Hawk (or even the ones before),.it gets impossible to escape the Tony Hawk clone allegations like, we've already long moved on from calling FPS games "Doom clones", while genres like Soulslikes, Roguelikes, and Metroidvanias were born out of necessary distinction. extreme sports games get compared to the Neversoft Tony Hawk games eternally for better or worse
The Disney title is NOT a rip off, as it was literally made by the same team as the team that made the Tony Hawk franchise. Anyone that argues otherwise will be forced to play Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5.
The Disney Xtreme sketeboarding game is officially a Tony Hawk game, it and it’s gba port were developed using the pro skater 4 and THUG GBA engines respectively
Surprised you didn't touch on Wakeboarding Unleashed. It's an unofficial entry in Activision's [athlete]'s Pro [extreme sport] series, I remember that actually being pretty good. Also I think Transworld Surf might be a better surfing game than KSPS.
That coach from Go! Go! Hypergrind! reminds me of Evil Dr. Boris Ivanovich Pyccknn. Ph. D. (Passed High-school with difficulty) XD (phonetically pronounced)
Thrasher is actually a really good game, I don't know why you think that people shouldn't go back to it. It's a totally unique expirience especially for someone into oldschool games.
I never liked the style of Klasky Csupo artstyle, so the game being in 3D and not that god forsaken animation is somewhat of a blessing. I find As Told by Ginger to be one of the single ugliest cartoons of all time.
holy shit dude. I thought i was watching some big ass youtube channel, then accidentally looked at views. Wow, very good content, keep it up!!!
Same. Immeditely subbed in.
lol relax

This video has a certain good ol' days of youtube gaming videos circa 2009.
Putting Cory in random group photos is never going to go out of style.

rick mccrank is actually a badass btw does a lot of cool docs for vice and skate in abandoned places.

I said 2004 as a joke not expecting to be within a few years tbh
Top tier sense of humour dude, very much wishin' this channel blows up real soon.
"Do you remember 1992?" Here's one for you guys, it's entirely possible that there are people watching this video who's parents weren't born yet in 92
There was actually another game in the “Pro” series by activation. They had Shawn Palmer’s Pro Snowboarder I played it all the time on ps2. It was pretty good and had a good soundtrack
My man! Thank you
Let us also not forget the equally criminally underrated Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer as well.
There was a pro wake boarding too I think that was mad fun
“…is that a chimp?”
I…..I believe it was good sir
great video! i was interested thru out the whole thing!!!
One of the greatest videos ever. No hyperbole.

correct comedic timing with the editing two for one meal deal dogg
Aggressive Inline crew represent!!
19:58 PFFF Oh fuck you man, that caught me off guard!
22:56 How did you NOT talk about that billboard on the top left??
What's the music at 26:29?

The Disney game SLAPPED as a kid but I wouldn't be shocked if it doesn't hold up today
19:29 for the cat girl in the body suit.
21:21 catgirl being covered in "milk" 🌝
@@opsoltthat shit caught me off guard man I wasn't prepared for that.
17:01 The grind balance meter is a hidden feature on the Dreamcast and western versions of the game. The Japanese versions of the game have the grind balance meter enabled by default.
the aggressive inlining game looks actually dope. Grabbing poles and doing gymnastics mid combo is dope
Oh hell yeah this channel rocks.
Enjoy blowing up, big dog!
Disney extreme skate adventure isn't a ripoff. they licensed the Tony hawk engine.
He said that lol
I find that the Disney game NOT getting a sequel was a disappointment. Just so you know the algorithm is showing you to me a lot. Expect a big jump in views soon, great videos man.
The 1st Dave Mirra was my shit as a kid. Lol.
Bruh for real this dude was born in 2001 and talking mad shit 😂
This is one of the best youtube videos I've seen in so long lol dude your hilarious keep it going
Agressive inline 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I can't wait to see your channel take off and thank you for the video. It gives off early UA-cam vibes (in a good way).
I wonder what the drop off rate for this video is once the sexy cat is no longer on screen
To be fair, i think every red blooded straight man is down with anything that has hot cat girls in it.
Aggressive Inline was a fantastic game! The soundtrack is still burned into my mind! Nice little mention of MGS2's skateboarding too 😛
Excellent video ! 😀
This was one the funniest videos I’ve seen in a long time I will be subscribing and watching all of your videos
That was fun. I subbed. Hope to see more stuff like this
You did Dave Mirra dirty, it was goated, and nothing like that shitty BMX XXX game.
Fax
@@ajg8722 Uhhm It's spelled: facts f - a - c - t - s. I extremely doubt you even know what THAT type of FAX even IS!!

How can you not mention Simpsons skateboarding xcc
Sick video 🔥 I love the disney pro skater rip off so much holds a special place in my heart
My idea of making Grind Session a little better is to make the more hard tricks (Real or not real) for the point shop only so you can still do common tricks
It was the little jokes you kept hitting me with that got the sub like and comment 😂
this was honestly so well written and hilarious. easiest sub in a while
“Jack of all trades, master of none” sums up Beach Bandits pretty much.
~ Decent soundtrack & concept art though.
Nah, X-Bladez HAD to be cashing in on Jet Set Radio's hype: the release date says it all.
9:32
Idk if thats sarcastic or not, but Reel Big Fish actually rulez

Pro BMX 2 was awesome.
30:33 stimpletons gone postal! postal reference lol
Disney extreme skate adventure desperately needs ports, it was a pretty amazing licensed disney game. Would love to see it on steam one day
Surprised you didn't touch on Wakeboarding Unleashed. It's an unofficial entry in Activision's [athlete]'s Pro [extreme sport] series, I remember that actually being pretty good.
Also I think Transworld Surf might be a better surfing game than KSPS.
Skatebird goes hard. Takes a bit of effort to get used to the controls.
14:15 "Mallie Ann Torres (age 32) is affiliated with the Democratic Party." Where did it all go so wrong?
Grind Session is pretty tragic it was in development before pro skater and just happened to have the exact formula to pro skater
Wasn’t there a rocket power on for the PlayStation I could have swore I played that
Great editing mate. Keep it up!
Thrasher was a sick game
It was in development before thps and came out before it so it cant rip off something that was made after it
That coach from Go! Go! Hypergrind! reminds me of Evil Dr. Boris Ivanovich Pyccknn. Ph. D. (Passed High-school with difficulty) XD (phonetically pronounced)
Street Skater 2, had some pretty good music as well, but nothing can top 2&3, especially when you could create your own skatepark in 3!
9:33 Gotta love the random appearance of Armenian Cory (Spazkid)
Grind Session may not have been as good as THPS2, though it was still good.
You must have had a crappy version of Matt Hoffman's pro BMX2 because that game is legendary where I'm from! The PS2 game was absolutely stellar!
Thrasher is actually a really good game, I don't know why you think that people shouldn't go back to it. It's a totally unique expirience especially for someone into oldschool games.

The stock music headbanger made me cry with laughter.
Great video bit would have like to see the simpsons skateboarding game. I own that one as well and it was terrible but fun.
Thank you! Check out the latest video on Simpsons Games, I cover Simpsons Skateboarding.
Love how Go Go Hypergrind is mostly just furries lol.
Awesome video. Keep up the vibez
I still can’t believe that BMX XXX came out on GameCube but it was SONY, not Nintendo, that wanted the titties covered. The 2000s were wild man.
Finally, Razor Freestyle Scooter
