- Hunting for shells and seaglass on the Bolivar peninsula near Galveston, Texas.This was one of the most fun shelling days ever! The combination of low tide and location made for a great beach day! I never thought I would find so many awesome shells here!

I remember being 13 and visiting Galveston with my grandma and picking out sea shells she would call me her buisness partner cause we would paint on them.. we wanted to sell them but time took a toll on us.. this is such a vibe thank you for sharing this video

Hello I just saw this video and I have lived on Bolivar for a long time. The squishy stuff is called Kalechi Clay and it is very messy when hurricane Ike came and took the road it left a bunch of it on the high island end. However sticky it does help with the beach erosion as it does trap alot there glad you enjoyed our little slice of heaven.

New subscriber to your channel! Great video! We really enjoyed it! We love shelling too! AWESOME rock snail shells!!! I've only found 2, both really worn & 1 of those was broken badly. We are in SC, they are rare in our area. Hopefully you'll find some shark teeth soon. :) We love looking for those as well as other fossils.

Thanks for subscribing - i really appreciate it! Go about 30 miles north of the Ferry Landing to High Island. Make sure it is low tide if at all possible. Also the stretch of road before High Island. Pull over anywhere and check it out! Let me know how it goes!
That is clay from the former road bed that ran along the gulf and was destroyed in Ike.

The rock shells are called Florida fighting conch in Florida
They are similar, but I'm not sure they are the same shell? I have found a ton of Florida Fighting conchs and these Texas shells are much hardier and seem different. Not completely sure though!

I've lived in Houston my whole life and of course I've been to Galveston many times. I have never found shells like that. I have quite a collection of shells but they're from Florida. Now I have to go to Galveston soon! 😀 Thanks for sharing!

Hi Kari - in the past I have done that trick with my shells from Florida. I guess I haven't done it in a while. Also, probably not the best thing to have acid in the RV with me! But, it does work. Have you tried it?
Awesome rock shells! We pretty much never get those in beaches in SWFL. Only ever found one after a storm there. Awesome shark eye too, the discolored shells are nice too. Cool sea glass as well! Thanks for the great video :)

How do you get to this place? I was out looking today and never found anything like this!
Hi Heather, where were you looking? We were near High Island on the Bolivar Peninsula. While the beaches change all the time, we were there at low tide which is very important and it was not windy so there were no waves that day. If it was not low tide, I wouldn't have found hardly any of the shells because they were farther out and trapped in the squishy mud. I always check the tide charts if I am going beach combing for the day. Low tide is the best!
@@TravelingTreasureFinder Crystal Beach. I looked online and everything that I found said it was the best place to go. Yesterday the ferry was so packed that it took 2 hrs just to get on though so it was starting to get dark and cold by the time I could even get over there. I'm not gonna have a chance to get over there until high tide today but try to get out there tomorrow morning! Thank you so much!
@@heatherwilliams1370 I'm so sorry Heather! So I found only bits of broken glass at Crystal beach and it was more crowded. If you can go to High Island, the shells are better or even pull off on the side of the road somewhere just before High Island. Also - Gilchrist has a lot of glass in the high rack lines. Try to do low tide if at all possible! Good luck and keep me posted!

I've had a lot of comments and I am not sure who is correct - no matter what, it is kind of yucky!😜 But worth every minute for the shelling!

@@pictishmedic44 I think it might be! It was pretty yucky, but that is where all the shells were hiding!
That black squishy stuff may be asphalt from where Hwy 87 was washed away. We were there today.
Instead of putting the shells back you can not keep you should sell them or even have a giveaway for your subscribers. I know I’d buy even broken ones that show just the spiral or a cross section for crafts. I love broken conchs, welks or moon snails for crafts. I want to make a tree out of them. Anyway I digress. I think it would be super cool if you had a giveaway of some sort.

I've never thought about a give-away, but great idea. I will look into that! I am back in a place where I can store more shells and rocks so I will be crafting more and probably selling some art. Thank you for watching and for the great idea!
