I’ve been grooming for 18 years and it is extremely refreshing to see another groomer using the conditioner comb method. You are also an extreme pleasure to watch and present your instructions very clearly . What a joy to watch!!❤❤❤
I had no idea how wrong I was doing everything. I don't endorse, but this woman KNOWS WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT. My dog is a double coat HYPER SHEDDER. I used these products she endorsed (not sure you need the actual products, but I just liked the smell of the shampoo and conditioner). I was impressed: There is NO HAIR coming off my dog and his hair is silky smooth. I feel so liberated from using that harsh furminator tool on him and he had flakey dry skin and hair. Now it's so nice! THANK YOU SO MUCH, I LEARNED A LOT!
As a ret. groomer, I very much agree about the coat damage done by many of these recommended tools. I used to do a lot of collies (roughs), including badly neglected ones, and used a preconditioner when the coat was really bad, then normal bathing with a power shampooer with which I used the dilute shampoo to loosen the dead hair, right down to skin level. In that stage I would often tease apart matted clumps with a jet spray so that the dead coat in them could be released. As I worked I monitored to make sure the dead coat was being lifted completely away from the skin. Then came an extremely thorough rinse (I was fanatical about that) followed by a leave-in conditioner, often with a silicon slickener. Then I used a very high-velocity dryer (right in the tub at least at first, no toweling) to remove the loosened hair. To me the key was that the power shampooing and drying were in pattern like the standard line-brushing, i.e. water/air directed at a low angle, not straight at the skin, aiming toward the rear (as the coat grows), and starting at the rear and belly and moving forward and upward as the hair was loosened. (think power-washing a sidewalk, not blasting the side of a house) The most hair exploded outward in the last few minutes of drying, as the drying completed. But while I did use a comb then, it was quick and easy, picked up very little hair, and the skin looked like the beagle's above, clean, clear, pink and healthy, without untimely undercoat. For my own dogs, a quick "blow-out" in the same pattern between baths restored a fresh, clean coat and skin, to the point that baths were rarely needed. As for the tools.. those undercoat rakes etc. cut and break the hair, including the slow-cycling outer coat, so that the coat is at different lengths, is more difficult to brush/comb, and more susceptible to matting!
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou! My mom's GSD had chronic, life-long shedding, dander, and hot-spot skin and coat issues. Your education and methods combined with a balanced raw diet absolutely broke the cycle and changed his (and my mom's) life for the better. Thankyou!
I used to help my groomer friend on the weekends…. So glad to see she did ALL these steps 🥰 I’ve since moved away from her and my senior shepherd is really showing the shed neglect 😞 Thanks for the great video!
I appreciate that someone who sees certain grooming tools is unnecessary. I have 3 male St Bernard's the shedding is insane. I took them to the groomer, and they used some furrminator on them. My 1 boy was shedding 3 weeks longer than his siblings, and it was so bad. I came home to my wood floor being a furr floor. I'm going to order a dryer and other products and see if I can help this process of shedding. Thank you hopefully their will be more videos for someone like me with 3 wooly mammoths. ❤
As a bather who uses furminator due to it being something the company offers I ALWAYS tell customers their dog with shed much more for a while and then it should subside. I also always tell them regular baths do just as well for shedding or better!
Theirs only 2 ladies that groom my boys at the location I take them to. I'm all for new things to help with their shedding, not something that will make it much worse. They never ever mentioned that it would get worse. So when I come home and look like half their coat is everywhere that became concerning. I started to question their food and what I was brushing them with their treats. Cause I wasn't sure what was happening. I came across this video. I went back to them and asked why I wasn't at least told hey theirs a possibility they may shed more than usual. I pay great money for my dogs to be taken care of. Just be honest with me. that's all I asked for.
The comb method is really good, but might be difficult for such thick coats, I have personally been using the conditioner method for years, and I'd highly recommend a slicker brush to break up the thicker parts of the hair without pulling the skin too much, then use the comb once it can be run through the coat without too much resistance. Hope this helps you deshed a little better!
Bumped into your video after researching mini American Shepherds. I found your method just so wonderful, and I agree with every step! Thank you so much for giving all us dog owners the best method, means so much.
You are the first I decided to listen to and to that I i want to thank you 🙏🏼 so much for making this video. Thank you so so much! I tried today what i learnt from you and my dog looks happier and cleaner than she used to and she even smells better. I really can't thank you enough. Thank you!! Our boy Tucker is a handsome all black GSD. We brush, and brush and brush some more between grooming visits. My house is still FULL of hair (I vacuum once or twice a day..if I have time). I am going to try these your methods. So excited and truly hope this makes such a big change for us.
I’ve watched this specific video about a dozen times before giving my dogs baths so I could remember the correct steps, which products you recommend, and exactly how to follow your process. Thank you for sharing! (And not pushing affiliate products!)
When my Shih Tzu was having a lot of skin allergies and problems my vet suggested that I try using a conditioner and surprisingly the conditioner that she recommended it was by aveeno. I started using this conditioner on all of my dogs and noticed a significant improvement in their skin and coat
You’ve just earned yourself a subscriber! I have a British bulldog at home and this is motivated me to do her myself. She has patchy bald skin atm. Keep up the good content ❤
OMG THANK YOU! I just adopted a 6 year old husky mix a month ago. My apartment and car have been a friggin mess of his hair. The vacuuming has been daily and time consuming 😫 I did your method last night. His hair was kinda dry and brittle so I skipped shampooing him and just used Buddha Bubbles dog conditioner and brushed him. Lots of hair came out. Then I blew dry him and used a boar brush to gently work in a jojoba oil and coconut oil UV protection spray for dogs, and used a flea comb over his whole body. Again lots of hair came out. Today when petting him, barely ANY hair has come off him and hes sooo soft!!! Now I wanna cry happy tears! Im not joking when I say hes shedding like 95% less now. Thank you!!! ❤❤❤ Hes pretty much all white but hes got some blonde on his back and tail like a cream colored lab. My dog does not have an undercoat, but hes definitely obviously husky but bigger (hes 90lbs, basically looks like a white wolf or white german shepard with a bit of lightly toasted marshmellow color on his back and hes goofy and lazy like a lab). Hes my first husky...do you think he never had an undercoat? Did his undercoat blow completely out already maybe? He didnt have one before I did your method so I didnt remove it, I know that for a fact.
I watched your entire video, I ordered everything you suggested. Even the brand of shampoo and conditioner. I have to say I feel horrible that I’ve never used conditioner. The shedding has been unbearable. I tried the furminator and after I saw what you said about these industry leaders I felt worse that I may have stunned him from using that. So I start doing what you said, I just finished now. I have no idea why this isn’t something that is taught normally for deshedding and just overall coat health. The amount of hair that simply slid out from using this conditioner and the exact grooming comb I was shocked. I have to say thank you for my heart for this video. My boy is collie/golden/lab mix.
Im in dispare after my 1 yo rescued lab mix started to shed…I see the fur flying from his body and head when he shakes against the sunlight…I had his blonde fur in my eye(!) 2 w ago and I am SURE I have a fur on my throat😁 I dont know if I end your video or if I ran to buy a conditioning and brush. Thank you soooo much. You are Triple Awesome! Much success in ur business
Same!!!!!! Rubbing the short and smooth coated dogs down Latex gloves during the drying process is a lifesaver also! I used to use those products as well and had to go back to the ways I taught myself. I'm so glad I do the same things as a 20 year grooming veteran!!!!
It never crossed my mind to use conditioner on my dog. So I went straight pet store and got some. Wow, the result was the same as the video. So happy I crossed this viod.
Awesome! Use a slicker brush to remove the undercoat when the conditioner is in the coat before rinsing. Then over rinse leaving nothing in the coat. You will be amazed!🙌
Thank you I hv a blue Heeler and they hv a under coat that’s hard to get off and it’s already over 100 degrees here in texas. I was using the de shed wire rake but hv quite cause I ran it over my head once when I had it clean a d my goodness it hurt like hell and repeat usage one after another stroke no wonder DJ hated it. I just gave him a bath and the amount of hair in tub amazing but yet still a ton to get he’s hot, but I never conditioned will start that and a comb , ordering it tonight & Conditioner I’m ordering it tonight thanks
Professional Groomer of almost 20 years here too & I can 100% confirm that this is the only way to “De Shed”. There are no tools on the market that can compete with this process & there are no short cuts. Not only is this the best way to your dogs coat & skin being healthy but it is the most pleasurable way also for your dog. It is crucial though to dry thoroughly otherwise the damp undercoat underneath that you don’t see will still be there. It will magically start flying out when the coat is completely dry down to the skin. Poor drying technique can also result in hot spots caused by humidity & dampness left underneath at skin level. If you pay good money for a de shed you should be able to slide a comb through the coat & visibly see the skin. If it’s a longer coated double coat it should literally be airy & floating after. This is an awesome video on how to do it the right way not only for your dog but also for the cleanliness of your house & salon👍🏻💯‼️
I'm so Glad i watched this video, but for it to pop up it's a shame i had seen on the news & looked up the dogs being severely abused at pet groomers in my home state...I WILL GIVE THIS A TRY,we have 5 dogs i LOVE so dearly.
I use a rubber horse curry I have one that is very old recycled from my stable tools the pins have become very soft and forgiving and really does an amazing job of getting all the shed out by simple elbow grease.
Very well said. I randomly found you in a search for a dual sided shedding rake I just purchased to see how to use it. I'm returning all this crap and going with your methods and subscribing.
WHO KNEW??? I have a Golden. She doesn't shed terribly. She's not yet 2, I'm wondering if the conditioner will gum up her beautiful coat👏? She's a flat coat, very slick and soft
Great video! Didn't know! Will be implementing these tips. I have a question though. Should I still brush my dog in-between bath/grooming days? And if so what do I use if I shouldn't use the deshed brushes. Also, how often should I wash them like this? Thanks!😊
As with others I found your video while trying to find videos on using other tools. I've thought how is it I just groomed you last night and this morning the knots are back and bigger. I do believe its due to the tools I'm using. I have a Lhasa Apso (18mos) and trying to keep her in a long coat. I would love to see you (if you haven't already and I haven't found it) do a video on a long hair dog.
@@GoGroomer It worked amazingly!!!! I immediately saw a difference in his coat and so did dad! Thank you for continually educating new and experienced bather/groomers :)
Great video and information ❤ What do do when my dog can’t stand the noise of a blow dryer? She has an aversion to vacuums, hair dryers, basically anything loud
Gurrrrlll so freakin awesome! Where have you been all my life lol I’ve had Pomeranians for years and I’m just know learning I’ve been doing things all wrong 😮 I can not wait to try this method on my fur babies ❤
Thank you so much for this!!! I have learned so much from a previous video you have about how to brush a doodle. I am working on being better and more consistent with brushing my doodle's hair (I've gotten really good at brush/combing her ears!). I also want the groomer we use to not have a tough time de-matting her. Even if we are getting her shaved for the summer, I still want to present her groomed because she really dislikes the blow drying method and I am hoping it will make the experience better all around. Our groomer has never outright complained about it when we asked how our dog did, but they did when I asked them what I could do better as a dog owner to help them when I know my doodle can get nervous. It also never occurred to me to get that towel you mentioned in this video. I am looking forward to trying out some of the advice this weekend!
Amy i am so glad i came across you on Utube, you are the next best thing since sliced bread. My friends and i have been so better educated to the welfare of our fur babies out here in the bush thanks to you shareing your knowledge with us. Do you have a video on grooming poodles and the right grooming tools to use, few of my friends and i going to Pet Barn in Toowoomba ( about 2 1/2 hours from where i live) in a months time to get our Wahl KM 10 clippers, and what ever blades are needed, so we would like to get whatever else is needed while we are there. Love from mumma eve and friends in Australia.
I was taught to "wet groom" 50 years ago. It is also helpful to run water through the coat as you comb through it. This is not new to me & is how I always groomed my dogs before conformation shows.
I am so excited I 'found' you, and it was all quite by accident (serendipity!). Tonight I just watched my first video and now I'm hooked. I'll be seeing a lot more of your instructions too ~ thank you so much!
My dog and I love using the kong zoom groom in the bath. He’s short haired smooth coat. I feel like it gets rid of all the shed, and he LOVES the massage. But I don’t think it would be good for a longer haired dog.
I actually do a wash specifically for the face and paws, 2 shampoos and a thick conditioner and use a silicone scrubber brush to get the conditioner to lather and then comb it . Then before i blow dry i add 2 leave in spray Conditioners and brush it in before i blow dry.😅 I'm super extra. I'll add coconut oil to the paws and nose and use a pumice stone very very lightly to the paw pads after the Conditioner and I rinse it out.
It took me 5 years to discover it all takes place with the tub/dryer/conditioner! I might have to brush most big shedders for 10 minutes..it’s saved my arm, wrist, and is such a timesaver!!!
Coat Handler is good. I also like the Best Shot shampoo line. I use the Lemon-Aid Oatmeal shampoo. Hair just comes out in clumps when I rub the dogs all over with a zoom groom in the tub.
Wow, I’ve actually wondered about some of these “furminator” products. Tula, my mini Aussie hated the one I tried and pulls sooo hard on her skin that it’s not safe in my opinion. I always dry brush, I used to dry deshed and then deshed in the tub once more because her hair is that true Aussie frizzy hair that tangles, knots up and mats if I’m not on top of it constantly and when wet she especially has knots after scrubbing her down with shampoo. I wish you’d used an Aussie or double coated dog in the demo just because it’s helpful to see how you prep the dog prior, even how you comb through tough, thick spots to getting them wet and scrubbed down. I will say through the years I’ve stopped deshedding dry as much and instead do a thorough comb/brush through and clip any impossible knots and then deshed during the conditioner phase which pulls sooo much fur out. I have a Husky/Aussie mix and his fur is very smooth but he does shed his undercoat a lot however washing him and especially conditioning and running a thin comb through does the best job with his style of coat overly dry deshedding any day
Honestly this has helped me alot. I'm currently in the pet grooming academy online and im always worried about knowing whether everything that's on the books are true or not. This has given me confidence and eased up on the stress of studying, knowing once i'm done, i don't have to always go by the books in some methods of grooming.
I wish my dogs were that good. For me it’s like trying to wash my car while it’s doing donuts
Bruh 😂 this comment is underrated! Just washed my car a few hours ago and pictured it doing donuts. 🤣

The amount of hair that simply slid out from using this conditioner and the exact grooming comb I was shocked. I have to say thank you for my heart for this video. My boy is collie/golden/lab mix.
This makes me so happy 😊 Thank you for trying a better way to care for your beloved pet. 🙏 I know he is thankful you did.
Thank you for sharing ive been doing it wrong all these years but hopefully from now on my pup can be free of dead hair!
Same!!!!!! Rubbing the short and smooth coated dogs down Latex gloves during the drying process is a lifesaver also! I used to use those products as well and had to go back to the ways I taught myself. I'm so glad I do the same things as a 20 year grooming veteran!!!!
That was so wholesome ❤ thank you for making this video!
It never crossed my mind to use conditioner on my dog. So I went straight pet store and got some. Wow, the result was the same as the video. So happy I crossed this viod.
Thank you very much, will be doing this step by step on my dogs next wash!
Me too!
Bout to test all this out on my Rough Collie this weekend. Thank you for the vid.
Awesome! Use a slicker brush to remove the undercoat when the conditioner is in the coat before rinsing. Then over rinse leaving nothing in the coat. You will be amazed!🙌
Thank you, I can run a comb through my dog. What a difference!
Wonderful!
I’m so excited!!!! You will be amazed 🙌
Makes sense! Thanks for the video!!
You bet!
Hi Amy, I have used your method for de shedding for my golden and it works wonders ❤
Thank you so much
Happy to help!
I love you my groomer friend! You get it 💖
I'm so Glad i watched this video, but for it to pop up it's a shame i had seen on the news & looked up the dogs being severely abused at pet groomers in my home state...I WILL GIVE THIS A TRY,we have 5 dogs i LOVE so dearly.
Thank you now i feel ready do try this on my own with my pup
Way to go! 🙌
I use a rubber horse curry I have one that is very old recycled from my stable tools the pins have become very soft and forgiving and really does an amazing job of getting all the shed out by simple elbow grease.
Just subscribed!! You know what you’re talking about!! Thank you so much for providing legit information
I appreciate that!
I would welcome a similar demo on a Gr Pyr that has been out ibn the field doing his/her job..
I agree! Please show us the Gr Pyr wash/de shed/dry/undercoat ! Please!
Very well said. I randomly found you in a search for a dual sided shedding rake I just purchased to see how to use it. I'm returning all this crap and going with your methods and subscribing.
Welcome aboard! And I am thankful to read this 💖
Such a well behaved dog you have. Bella runs to hide if I say the word bath. We have to trick her and spell the word. Lol
WHO KNEW??? I have a Golden. She doesn't shed terribly. She's not yet 2, I'm wondering if the conditioner will gum up her beautiful coat👏? She's a flat coat, very slick and soft
Loved the “throughly!”
🙌
0:27 yessss I can
0:38 thx for sharing ❤
0:44 yep. The animal's well-being should come first. Gate keeping only hurts the animal
This came up in my recommendations. I don't even own a dog, but I enjoyed your video.
Glad you enjoyed!
Great video thanks for the knowledge 👍!
Great video! Didn't know! Will be implementing these tips. I have a question though. Should I still brush my dog in-between bath/grooming days? And if so what do I use if I shouldn't use the deshed brushes. Also, how often should I wash them like this? Thanks!😊
Yes, brush as often as possible. Use the Artero flexible slicker brush or a similar brush.
Thank you 😊 I will be trying your method on my dog 🐕
Wonderful!
Thank you so much for all your videos!! ❤
Glad you like them!
As a master deshedder her hairs wild
Thanks for the tips
Useful video
As with others I found your video while trying to find videos on using other tools. I've thought how is it I just groomed you last night and this morning the knots are back and bigger. I do believe its due to the tools I'm using. I have a Lhasa Apso (18mos) and trying to keep her in a long coat. I would love to see you (if you haven't already and I haven't found it) do a video on a long hair dog.
I have a live Yorkie video in full coat.
I’m bathing a LH GSD tomorrow and I cannot wait to try this method!!
Yay!! 😘
Use some towels.
This is amazing! Should I do this with my dachshund as well?
yes, for a short haired use a flea comb instead of a slicker brush, for a long haired use a metal grooming comb and a gentle slicker brush.
I love watching Amy Leigh @Go Groomer, she always goes above and beyond to provide us with the best information needed for successful grooming!
💕
Gurrrrlll so freakin awesome! Where have you been all my life lol I’ve had Pomeranians for years and I’m just know learning I’ve been doing things all wrong 😮 I can not wait to try this method on my fur babies ❤
Great video. I would love to see this done on a thick and curly golden doodle like the one I have. Thanks.
I made this video on just that. 🙌ua-cam.com/video/I8Ym-Hd9RKg/v-deo.htmlsi=iA0KpYhvYeK-q_Gk
@@GoGroomer Thank you!!!!!
Very soothing voice. Great vid! Going to try
We are better together. 💖
I just did this with my lab golden cross.
Unbelievable what came out! Great comb.
Really works!!
I have a golden doodle, I know it's supposed to be hypoallergenic, but mine is not...will definitely try this out
Does a beagle have a similar coat structure as a labrador retriever? Would I be using a comb in the bath? Thank you for your help!❤
Yes, absolutely
@@GoGroomerthanks!
I was taught to "wet groom" 50 years ago. It is also helpful to run water through the coat as you comb through it. This is not new to me & is how I always groomed my dogs before conformation shows.
Thank you very much. I have a Corso adult sized puppy that sheds like crazy. I will try this very soon.
Thank you im going to try this on my mini golden doodles
I am so excited I 'found' you, and it was all quite by accident (serendipity!). Tonight I just watched my first video and now I'm hooked. I'll be seeing a lot more of your instructions too ~ thank you so much!
Definitely doing this! I just got a Malinois puppy and I have been told they are BIG shedders
Amy, do you recommend this procedure for pitbulls with those needle like hairs? If so does the comb used work?
Yes, but use a flea comb, shorter hair, tighter comb teeth. I love the sure grip flea comb made by groomers choice. 🙌
Thank you I have a new puppy and she has shedding hair. I will definitely do this ❤️🐾❤️
Thank you again. It was so easy. ❤️
My dog and I love using the kong zoom groom in the bath. He’s short haired smooth coat. I feel like it gets rid of all the shed, and he LOVES the massage. But I don’t think it would be good for a longer haired dog.
So you don't used the rake at all any more even with dogs with longer coats like multi poodles? Just conditioner and a brush out?
No rake, it’s a touching balance between deshedding and removing healthy coat.
Absolutely my friend! Deshedding is best in the tub during the conditioning process. Way to go 👏👏👏
Coat Handler is good.
I have a Husky/Aussie mix and his fur is very smooth but he does shed his undercoat a lot however washing him and especially conditioning and running a thin comb through does the best job with his style of coat overly dry deshedding any day
🙌
Would this method work for a Spinone? Anything to make the hand stripping process shorter is appreciated
Yes of course.
You should Make an asmr channel lol it's so comforting hearing you ❤
😊
Honestly this has helped me alot. I'm currently in the pet grooming academy online and im always worried about knowing whether everything that's on the books are true or not. This has given me confidence and eased up on the stress of studying, knowing once i'm done, i don't have to always go by the books in some methods of grooming.
This is refreshing to hear. Your eyes and ears are open to different methods of caring for a dogs coat. I’m proud of you! 💕
