    I keep thinking about Bullet Train in relation to the Acolyte, a weird comparison right? But Bullet Train did more character development for people killed 2 minutes later than in all 5 episodes of the Acolyte. It's so wtf that it's fascinating.

    Glad to see this up so soon. Very entertaining altogether and really appreciated your thorough response to my first superchat.
    Glad I got one last one in at the end. I was worried I'd be too late.

    Never read a comic book, but the MCU needs to have all but 1 of the multiverses be destroyed. Bring stakes back and remove the possibility of using other multiverses to save the day.

    Script/Story reads like a transcript of a casual TTRPG adventure in which we missed session 0.

    I would love if they introduced stim packs in star wars, and why not jet or buffout, wouldn't that be cool. 😉

    They are now gonna rip off Naruto were Obito (Smilo ren) explains Sasuke (osha) why and how Itachi (mei) killed everyone in his clan (lesbianwitches) and becomes villain but is actually the good guy and Konoha (Jedi) is bad

    If you only ever train with a one-handed sword and suddenly pick up a second one, you will perform objectively worse because you will be doing something that you have less practice. Conversely, if you use dual wielding swords, choosing to use just one is handicapping yourself.
    Smiles Boy keeping his second blade until being put on the backfoot would be forgivable if he were characterized as someone who enjoys fighting to an unreasonable degree. To the point where he fights with one hand behind his back so the fight last longer and he can have more fun.
    If they had done that the only problem remaining would be the meta one, specifically the fact that the aforementioned character archetype is the kind of goofy anime shit that supposedly doesn't belong in star wars.
    I say supposedly because I grew up watching anime, I love me some goofy anime fights and I watched enough anime and now for a fact you can have exaggerated fights with explosions and superpowers and so on that are emotionally satisfying as well as narratively cohesive.

      The force does have hand gestures associated with it, so it does make some sense to fight with one blade vs a superior force like he did since he was using it to get advantages. Only goes to dual blades when it's a one on one where the enemy also has a second blade to block.

    • @questionmarks4431

      @@pezdispencer113 Are you sure, the explanation i grew up with is that the force telekinesis is all about visualizing and the hand movements serve to help you visualize, so if you want to grab ahold of something you reach in it’s direction and make a grabbing motion, pushing you make a pushing motion etc..
      I don’t think the force has a martial element to it and I can't recall any mention of you having to know the right hand gestures to use it.

      @@questionmarks4431 what's left of the canon certainly doesn't cover it, but I'm just going off what we see in the movies and shows.
      Though in ESB Vader does move stuff without his hands.

      @@pezdispencer113 This isn't the kind of thing they could use the training scenes to explain, but all we get is pseudo philosophical buffoonery, my version of how it works is just as likely to be non-canon as yours so i guess is up for grabs.

    • @pezdispencer113
      @pezdispencer113 6 місяців тому

      @@questionmarks4431 we don't get explanations for these things because the writers don't even realise there's problems to begin with.
      Jedi training is a cool concept to explore, but we never do. We just get empty platitudes and vague comments like ep4's nothing training session.
      That's the problem with Disney, everything is surface deep, they never explore anything they put forward.

    13:00 but why even is Jackie fighting mei. How did she got there while smilo ren is butchering her jedi friends. Did she run away deserting them even though she is the most proficient duelist that all jedi masters

    Maybe Disney should start making their characters mute, that would remove some issues. Let's see if they're capable of visual story telling and than we can give them back dialogue, as every line piles issue atop of issue and the foundations of the story buckles and snaps. They need to prove themselves capable meanwhile for training purposes the writers can start with children books and make their way up the ages. It always feels like these writers are always way out of their depth. There is no way I would trust any writer who hasn't created their own science fiction world with a huge established one.

      I thought Walt Disney required everyone to do the flour sack test before he hired them. I'm betting they don't do that anymore, and certainly not an equivalent for their live-action teams...

    I'm definitely in the apathy phase about Marvel and Disney Star Wars. The only thing I've bothered with since Rise of Palpatine was Endor because Mauler and LP recommended it. Was pretty good but one series does not a franchise save.

    Theoretically, Sebastian Stan + Anthony Gruber + Millie Bobby Brown could play Luke, Han, Leia with a bit of ageing down of Stan and ageing up of the other 2. How it would play in practice is another matter, of course.

    A woman writing physical conflict is like a man writing about the fear of grape when walking home at night, or a straight guy writing about getting bummed
    It's easy to forget but almost all women have grown up never even having been punched in the face. They're going to have a harder time writing authentically about battles etc.

    • @idanmuze
      @idanmuze 6 місяців тому +4

      I get what you're saying, but the difference between the men and women who get chosen to write Disney Star Wars is much smaller than the difference between the average man and woman. The average man and woman don't write Disney Star Wars. I doubt any Acolyte writer, man or woman, has ever been punched anywhere at all.

      Part of that problem is that, ultimately, women's power fantasies are not about using their own physical power to exert control over others in combat. Many women certainly find the idea of being a badass babe cool, but it's not the violence in and of itself that they emotionally connect to, it is the social control said violence allows them to exercise.
