It's not natural to obsess over how you look. Mirrors don't exist in nature. Water surfaces distort our features. Just live life on yourself, you're your own passenger, it's not like you have a choice.

but back then when they were looking for friends and partners they would see the other person and therefore see how they looked, so they also had a thing abt looks because that's just nature. Insects and birds also try to look their best even though they got no mirror. Health is the thing and being healthy means being attractive 👍

I mean reflections exist in nature... But I see your point, obsessing and comparing beauty standards and old photos of yourself isn't natural or healthy.

    • @AneXineohp
      @AneXineohp 6 місяців тому +2

it is normal, hence why people have done it for centuries and have striven to do it outside of using a distorting puddle of water, and they've obsessed over how others look as well. we, humans, have probably thought about ourselves and how we look to an obsessive degree since the dawn of our materializing.
the problem with comments like yours is that it takes an idealistic approach to the truth, it sounds nice, it sounds comforting to some. i mean your comment is very cute and poetic, but it's ironically very narrow minded. i mean, it's not natural to have a tailbone without an actual tail according to your logic, that because our common ancestor probably had a tail and we don't it's therefore unnatural. i think there's something quite logically fallacious about your comment. it's true it wasn't easy to look at yourself back in like the Neolithic period and than some up until the invention of mirrors and glass and reflective objects like metal buckets and what have you, and therefore it's unnatural to be so utterly concerned with your looks because you couldn't see them. but you do know that only fosters deep curiosity? and, as what can easily be observed, deep curiosity almost always manifests into obsession.
how people perceive you and how you could possibly be to others in appearance, how their opinions and perspective and the way they were born would sway how they could think about you; how that could be different from how you view yourself because you have a different approach to all those factors about your worldly view. Do you truly think that's unnatural for humans? Those feelings? we're visual creatures, we should all know that by now, but we're also deeply intellectual beings who wonder about everything, especially ourselves and how others think about us. a lot of animals are like that, but we historically have taken it to the next level.
i was obsessed with this as a child, like a wee kid, because i didnt understand the concept of perception and mirrors, that i would spend so much time looking at my reflection because it fascinated me to watch and study myself and, as imaginatively explosive as i was, imagine myself deeply as different people looking at me.
what does it mean to "live life on yourself," maybe i just have grammatical qualms with that statement, but we as humans live life on a world, a world with other people and a variety of scenarios and unpredictability that you cater yourself to how the world around you lives. animals, human or not, are natural in doing that. adapting to survive, survival of the fittest, all that evolution-related science. bio-sociology ig?
we're literally the most curious creatures alive, i'd argue, and i think it's just quite ignorant to pretend like it's unnatural for us to test the bounds of our curiosity and create something that allows us to satisfy it.
mirrors do exist in nature, it's just how you perceive the way they work that dictates if they are worth acknowledging or worth making a judgement on.

@iiCounted-op5jx Yep, I get the sentiment, but it's the wrong way of thinking. It should be "if you're young and beautiful, you're beautiful."
There are so many indicators of beauty: health, fitness, genetics, lifestyle. There's no reason a middle age or older person can't be beautiful if they take care of themselves and their health. Looks obviously do take a hit as some people age, but calling all young people "beautiful" is just fallacious and straight up wrong.

I’m 17 turning 18 this year, and my appearance has been a huge issue for me ever since I was around 8. Over the past few months, I’ve been trying to challenge my views of myself more, realizing that my dysmorphia is feeding into my social anxiety and making my self esteem spiral. Your video resonated a lot, sometimes I see videos about this issue that don’t feel that genuine, but you basically summed up exactly how I feel! Glad that youtube recommended this :)

YES it took me so long after highschool to realize that my past thinking was all forms of messed up. Self love is the most valuable thing to have and it helps you in so many areas in life you wouldn't even expect. There really is no reason to dislike ourselves unless it's about changing for the better. But with looks it's our choice if we like it and we should.

I agree with a lot of the stuff u said! Like I totally agree that a lot of times your fear of being ugly/unattractive just holds u back and makes u socially awkward, which in turn makes ppl not be interested in you. Even if ppl are not super good looking they can still have amazing outgoing personalities and ppl like them. I think ppl focus too much on their looks, myself included. I have a girlfriend, and we both love each other, but I still stress about how I look and how I’m perceived all the time. Been trying to work on it.
The only thing I kinda disagreed with is the part about putting work into your looks being unimpressive. I agree it makes it less “mystical” or intimidating to ppl if they realize it just takes a little effort. But I don’t think it makes ppl cringe or that it is unimpressive. Especially with things like going to the gym. Going to the gym takes so much self discipline and effort, especially to stay consistent. I felt fat for so long because I gained weight to play football in high cool. I got up to 262 at one point, 1-2 years later I’m 214 and I’m 13-14% bodyfat. I’ve gone to the gym almost everyday of my life, and I love the feeling it gives me. But u also have to ask yourself why you’re doing things to look better or to improve yourself. Like, am I doing this to make other ppl like me better? Or am I doing this because it makes ME feel good and healthy, and confident in my body. Mindset is key, and I hope we can all learn to just love our bodies and appreciate ourselves 💪💪😁

the first part of your video actually speaks to me.
this video seems good overall, though.
i actually got quite a couple forms of attention from boys, even in high school. beforehand, before high school, I never thought i was ugly (until middle school). i've actually always thought i was just so cute and pretty in my earlier years because everyone around me treated me as such and you can tell you're a bit special when you're singled out and treated like a princess for simply existing. i'm truly not all that, it was just weird how family members and family friends were always particularly weird about me and my appearance more so than my sister and brother, my mother was simply creepy and obsessive about it; now that im older and more realistic, i see that lol, that im a normal looking person. but i did get "romantic" attention from boys. for some reason being shy was a plus at the start. i was seen as nice and harmless, someone dainty.
elementary and middle school weren't all sunshine and rainbows once people got to see more of me.
cuz i was weird, as time grew, like strange. my head would twitch if i felt someone was looking at me, or if i felt an urge to check if someone was. i would sweat down to my knees from the pits, my posture was bad, and i never made eye contact if i was up close to someone, but i made extreme eye contact when they were far away. some boy staked me out for the entire year one day, at a time way back when, just to hear me talk when i was in my younger years; i was just so odd, i have no idea why i thought it was just so cute and silly to not say a word. i mean, i was severely socially anxious and my home upbringing bruised how i interacted with people, as i was constantly emotionally distraught and just so scared of my peers. i was really just terrified, it was kind of sad. i was very weird, people saw that, i sometimes looked angry or sad when i was feeling neutral. people would make fun of me. but boys who didnt see me all the time did give me attention, so it temporarily would suspend the doubts growing through my latter school years that i was a goblin-like creature people avoided and laughed at when she walked because she was so gross and ugly. i was just strange, and you articulated that strangeness very well. socially inept people are just unattractive, and the reason people liked me more in my earlier years was because i was genuinely cute and approachable; the more i thought people viewed less of me, the uglier people treated me because the uglier i tried to be.
it feels weird to use terms like "cute" or "pretty" to describe myself, im not even trying to gas myself up lol, but i think that's how people perceived me, "cute" seems to exemplify the type of person i was perceived to be by my peers, i kept hearing that.

The reality is, almost no one is ugly. Almost no one is beautiful. The simple truth is almost everyone looks average. That is why it is called "average" and average is pretty good. Despite what you are constantly being told, a female does not have to be drop dead gorgeous she just has to look attractive. Attractive means looking like someone other people would like to know. This isn't very difficult to achieve. Just don't do anything ridiculous to your face like getting tattoos or piercings or fills etc. and keep your hair natural and neatly groomed. That's about all the effort it takes.

It's a lot easier for a guy to approach you if he won't feel as though his friends would make fun of him for approaching you. This comes down to two things: 1. how attractive you are 2. how popular the guy is. If you're hot, no matter how awful your personality is, guys will STILL want you. If the guy has a good social circle, he won't approach the ugly girl sitting by herself at the lunch table because he will then be judged for it. NOT EVERYONE CAN BE AN 8. YOU CAN'T CHANGE DRASTICALLY HOW YOU LOOK. The thing that matters most is the face you're born with, and then whether or not you maintain the good facial structure by not covering it up with a lot of extra bodyfat in your face. With that being said, most people watching (probably young girls) can be attractive enough to be above average to most men if they just try. Almost no one will be actor-level attractive, though.
