I’m glad to see others bothered by the right to repair issues. Fire and a runaway board are Other great reasons not to buy one. I don’t think the company can recover from such a misstep. 5 years that company is gone.
@@nuggethikes they have a pretty amazing product that no other product on the market can even come close. And despite how they treat their biggest fans, they have a huge following of casual fans that will buy and ride their stuff. If they make a course correction now, I think they could be an amazing company with an even more amazing product in a few years.
@@freshlycharged you are correct about the course change. They may have many fans, but eventually they will get sick of the huge shipping bills. There are Many other electric alternatives available. Spend your $ elsewhere.
I've been asked how the return went. Here's my experience returning a brand new Onewheel GT that's never been ridden: FM did not respond to my requests for a return via email for 6 days. On the 6th day I called and spoke to Sam who was very nice and helped me with the return. Everyone I've spoken to at customer support has been great. She waived the 15% restocking fee which is FM's practice for returns. FM did not provide any shipping help besides information on where to ship the board. I shipped the Onewheel and accessories using UPS ground which cost me $110 from Denver to San Jose. The guy at UPS was shocked that Future Motion did not provide me a shipping label which he said would have been less expensive as they ship in bulk and get better rates. I'm just glad to have both the Onewheel GT and King Song S20 out of my home. Two fewer things for me to worry about right now.
That’s a bummer. As a proud Pint owner with over 1k miles on it I was quite excited about the GT release and planned on ordering one but with all the issues especially the amount of bricks showing up to peoples houses, and IMO the worst is the tire situation, I’ll stick with my Pint for now especially after installing the new treaded Hoosier tire it’s great :)
Waived the restocking fee, but left you on your own to ship it. How very Future Motion of them. They're always so happy to spread the Stoke™️ and Destroy Boredom™️.
That is ridiculous not to provide a label to ship it back. Guess they probably going to charge you triple when and if you had to get it service. That is so unfortunate because I really liked my pint I think I’m going with a different product like the scooter Thanks for the info.
This whole release became so unfortunately tainted. The grand promises made by the marketing since last Fall came up short, the community learned quickly how skewed the priorities were of this product, and the lack of acknowledgement of broken boards just made this product launch feel gross. Thank you for the video, Jimmy. Very well said.
Unrelated, the knife case was excellent. I'm glad to see another knife guy. I was a major high end collector years ago, but have settled on a single pocket knife, a Sebenza.
I agree with you and Louis from your livestream that FM needs to provide an easy to read and understand list of things that will brick your Onewheel GT and/or void your warranty. It shouldn't have to be trial and error by the community. Until FM provides a list, who's got a list for me?
This whole thing just breaks my heart. Jimmy, my man, you’re the one who got me into Onewheels with your videos years ago. So sad to see this, but I can’t argue your points. Here’s to hoping we see some change from FM soon 🍻 I want to love their company again
@@freshlycharged if you get a fourth you can make a decent transportation option. They call it an "electric car". Rlly cool. I also saw a two wheeled version called "electric scooter". New tech, check it out.
I loved my OneWheel but eventually decided to move on from Future Motion… I don’t hate them but I appreciate EUC’s for having more choices and the fact that the manufacturer literally posts disassembly videos sometimes. Totally different approach.
Well I’m canceling my GT order, but I preordered the King Song S20, lol. I guess I’m trading ghosting for fire, but I still like the way King Song is acting about it rather than future motion. Very disappointed in FM, and I won’t support them until something changes. Thanks Jimmy!
I'm surprised a software bug could cause a battery fire. Aren't there multiple layers of fail-safe physical protection, like temperature and current (fuse)?
Thanks for taking a stand, Jimmy. You just doubled my trust in your content with this video. The bricking of boards and lack of communication from Future Motion I think justifies the return. I saw Louis Rossman's videos and wondered what your take would be, glad you're on the side of right to repair and safety first. A month agoI got a Onewheel+ XR. I was contemplating getting a GT, but when I saw the wheel size change, I decided to go with an older model I could more easily repair on my own. I guess changes like that foreshadowed what we're seeing now with their anti-modding and anti-repair policy at the moment. Hope you have a good day, thanks for the content. Keep up the good work!
I am with you Jimmy. I would boycott Future Motion until they allow some ability for customers to work on their Onewheels. I don't really Onewheel any longer so it is easier for me to just avoid Future Motion. My preferred PEV (i.e. EUC) also has its problems but at least we have the ability to tinker with them and possibly provide solutions. Alienrides is in San Francisco and they have been able to address most any problem that comes up with most PEVs. The only PEV they don't work on is the Onewheel. The S20 fire was unfortunate but King Song was much better than Future Motion. I feel for the great folks that love their Onewheels. They deserve much better.
I think it is a sad reality that FM has very poor customer service. Jimmy, I think we are receiving a response from FM, and that response is silence. FM is not trying to get out in front of these problems and letting customers and possible future customers know that they are working on the problems. If anyone is wondering how a company goes out of business, this is how. Poor customer service. It’s up to FM if they go out of business or not.
@@kentfield2205 agreed! I have been in electronics manufacturing for decades, and FM is like a textbook case of how to do EVERYTHING wrong in their business practices. Every choice they have made gives them more power and the customer less power, FM get a better deal and the customer gets a worse deal. Terrible, unsustainable, business practices. The only reason FM have survived so far is the product is great (when it works) and they have no competition... at the moment. Perception of the product being great is changing! And the competition? Just wait.
MASSIVE respect Jimmy. So many people are overlooking all of this stuff, and I have incredible respect for someone who stands behind his principles. You're setting a really good example here.
One Coloradoan to another, I respect your decision to send back your Onewheel GT. It's probably more than I would be willing to do in the same situation, and I've had people say I'm too cardcore about sticking to my principles on how businesses treat me. Don't back down. This is how the market is meant to work. Consumers holding companies accountable for how they're treated, not consumers who just buy the newest greatest thing.
THANK YOU for this, truly. I did not put my money on the line. I chose to wait for reviews to come out on the GT (glad I did). But people like you and other early adopters made that risk, so that people like me didn't have to. It's content like this that really amplifies the message all of us are trying to convey right now, so again, thank you.
The XR is a great product. I wish FM business practices were better. As sad as it is to say it, I will enjoy my XR and not buy anymore Forward Motion products till they change their business practices. Such a fun and amazing board with less that ok business practices
Thanks for sharing, Jimmy, and I can't blame you. My pint started ghosting a while back (this was my fault, bad grip tape replacement by me), and it was the scariest time I've had with my Onewheel. It zipped off twice and hit a wall. After that, I was terrified of it and didn't use it again until I got a new front footpad. But I also appreciate you and all the other riders right now taking a stand for right to repair. I think we all need to speak up. When my electric skateboard has broken, I've been able to order a small part and replace it. It's cheaper, easier, more rewarding, and WAY better for the environment (I live in Costa Rica - shipping a board out to California and back is no small matter). I looooove Onewheels and have many awesome experiences with Future Motion, but I'm also constantly dumbfounded and heartbroken about how they treat their most passionate customers and their community 😔 Again, thanks for sharing openly. 🙏
I’m very glad I watched this video before purchasing one. The fact that we can’t customize, tinker, or even repair it on our own is enough for me to avoid it. Thank you!
Hi Jimmy, I am the Machinist for Kiil Guards, I recently did a VESC on my XR, and I'm pretty sure I'll be setting up Dustins (one of the Kiil owners) board up the same as mine. I would love to see more people switching over to VESC, it gives you all the freedom to do what you want with the board. I built a 18s battery for mine, and Dustin has attested to my board being more powerful than a GT with the ride of a XR with a little more aggressive tune than mission. For the price to find a BMS, i was able to switch over the the VESC and also build my battery, I really hope we can get more people doing this, and showing off the true potential of not being locked in to a company that clearly cares more about the dollar than anything else!
Thank you Trenton. The Onewheel community needs more DIY makers and enthusiasts. It wont be long before a DIY onewheel outperforms the FM version, with reliability, spare parts you can buy and mod to suit your own style. It is people like you bringing that happy day closer. 👍 Maybe Jimmy could do an interview with you and your DIY onewheel setup? 🤔👍
thanks for taking a stance on this. you're one of the pillars of the OW community, and your voice is very important to this issue. hope FM actually listens to all the feedback they're getting from their community and creators.
Not only are you NOT overreacting, you are contributing towards positive change. Only through collective solidarity can you make the world more fair and just.
This is the right choice. I came so close to rejecting delivery of mine, and I didn't, and it was stupid. It ghosted day 2, dead on day 3. I'm asking for a refund, even though I don't expect to get one.
@@freshlycharged I was being paranoid to only ride it on pavement where I could ensure heel-lift stop, or low-use trail where it wasn't going to mess up someone else's day if it ghosted. Second ride on it was 32 miles on a river parkway and was SO AWESOME. But then third ride was on trail.. was going up a steep part, couldn't quite make it, nose went down, I stepped forward off the board, motor didn't disengage, tail dropped and it took off at max acceleration backward down the trail. It launched itself off the side of the trail over a 10ft drop, rolled 30-40 ft down a rocky embankment. It was banged up to hell but still turned on and I rode it home, but next morning after pulling it off the charger, it was dead. That long ride was so amazing that it's going to be hard to go back to the XR (I'm 6'6" 240lbs so GT torque is unbelievable) but even if they sent me a brand new one, the trust is gone and it's too much to worry about, I just want my 💰 back and to forget the GT exists for now.
@@CodySims Wow. 3 rides and the thing committed suicide by jumping off a cliff. What is that, about $600 a ride? Lucky nobody got hurt. Hope you get refunded for the corpse. Thank you Jimmy for helping to spread the word about these unfortunate, dangerous defects.

It came back from "repair" still dead 😆 They approved the refund request this time around.. it arrives back at FM tomorrow and when I get my refund I'll be posting proof it happened on r/onewheel to give others an example to reference to FM when they want a refund.
Oh if you’re returning it, then I’m not buying it. I’m going to wait. Another thing with FM is if you ride it you no longer can return it. It has to be unused to be eligible for return.
I feel like FM replaced the XR with the GT simply to lock down on third party. It doesn't even perform significantly better than an XR, especially a modded one.
Very powerful, I was just about to pull the trigger and buy the GT. I’m going to take a wait and see attitude now. My X-R is all I need until future motion gets their head out of their ass. Maybe another company will offer a better product.
Hi Jimmy. I got my first OW Pint on sunday and ended up having my appendix explode on monday unexpectedly. Ive been watching your videos while i heal so i can learn to ride it and tips on the boards. Thank you for the good content. 10/10 creator.
It's a bold statement to send back a unopened device but I agree with your reasons ! most people would try to deal with the consequences because they're so excited about the GT . Good for you. we need to keep pushing against FM until they decide to do something. Enough is enough !
In case anyone missed it Techrails and Stoke Life Service worked together to create a custom motor plate that allows you to fit an XR hub seamlessly over the GT motor. This "GTR mod" allows you to use standard 6-in tires on the GT.
ya but does that replace the battery without shipping the board? eventually that battery is going to die and when it does you will send the board to FM and they will put thier own parts on it like they always do. Why is this not illegal taking peoples things they pay for and returning a stock board WTF!!!!!
Woof I’m glad I watched this video. I’m in Ireland and it would have been an absolute nightmare to order one. I had put off getting an XR because I knew the GT was coming. Thanks Jimmy, you saved me a lot of money and a potential big headache.
@@dannymcqueen they are differnt hardware versions of the Onewheel XR, that can be modded. Later ones you cannot easily mod at all, or repair them oursleves
Thanks for posting Jimmy. FM right to repair and modify should be allowed, this is an open door for another lawsuit that will drain money from FM.We are your customers and we have spoken no excuses do the right thing.
Jimmy. I have the broken GT that we found out about the battery problem at the shop if you want to see what we see. Some of it would be pretty interesting to get out there.
This is huge coming from Jimmy. I have been trying to decide if I should upgrade from my original pint. It works just fine and I will keep using it for another year.
I don't own a one wheel and I never will (because EUCs make them obsolete to me)... but its super interesting to see that a high quality self balancing transportation device made by an American company still has lots of problems just like the unicycles made by Chinese companies. Onewheels are outrageously expensive compared to EUCs... so I would expect them to not have similar quality issues.
I had a Onewheel ghost on me in the streets of Chicago years ago and it hit a girl. I paid her doctor bill and luckily she didn’t sue. I also had a different board ghost into a lake. I needed to buy a new board after that. Pretty whack.
You are definitely doing the right thing. Fuck future motion for their treachery! Nobody in their right mind will buy from future motion until they change their practices!
I'm small beans and FM could care less about me. Just sharing my thoughts and experiences. Some will agree and some will disagree, but I'm just trying to do what's right for me.
Wow, when FM got Jimmy the GOAT to return his, it makes me second guess this company. That last shot of you climbing out of your trunk made me giggle too. Great video.
I sent mine back to. Never used anything like this in my life, Im just now getting into this hobby and I'm not starting with a company who believes it's not my stuff to do with as I please after I purchase a product for $2,000. I ordered the inmotion v11. I hear good things about it. It will be here on the 5th🤞 😁😁😁 I can't wait!
When I watched Spiderman No Way Home, MJ said something that reminded me of this situation with the new Onewheel: “if you expect disappointment, then you can never really be disappointed.” -MJ
I live in Australia and was going to buy a GT as soon as it was available. But after seeing your video, I link there are too many risks at present. Thanks for your video.
i agree with you jimmy. many of us are disappointed with fm. i love my pint, but fm has been disrespecting its fans, and i'm turned off by their practices.
I've been wanting to buy a onewheel for years now, and I'm finally able to afford one. But dammit, I'm not going to support this anti-consumer company!
@@jamesmith1048 got an XR for 800 and it's far better than risking all that money for a GT. Now I'm moving towards EUC for better range and ride comfort.
The update has made the GT so much better, 20 mph to pushback for Flow, High, and Apex. As soon as my heel comes off for the stop, this thing shuts off QUICK. It is so much better than it was, though I never had any of the other issues. Just wanted to let you know they are working on it bro!
@@freshlycharged they could've have helped to avoid this by giving more of the boards out to creators like you to test them out. I think this would've brought even more hype. Instead, they kept everything so tight and i don't think the board was tested as much as it should've been before release.
Great job Jimmy! You are very well respected in the EV community and your opinions are taken to heart! We both got our XR’s around the same time and I’ve learned a lot from your videos! So on point with FMs commercial I see all the time on UA-cam, people riding a digitally deleted Onewheel. Something missing?! Yeah, a functional product, reliable company, and freedom for customers to help.
Jimmy, thanks for sharing your thoughts about the GT, like you I was really excited about the launch. I had trouble gaining access to the site when you could preorder the board. I imagine this had to do with the high demand, so I took that as I sign I should hold off. I’m glad I did now.

Thank you for this video. Im Brazilian and I was thinking about buy onewheel. You just opened my eyes for many reasons I shouldn't do it. Can you imagine how hard it would be to fix it here?
Been wanting a Onewheel but seeing more and more of EUCs, I changed my mind. Essentially, the only reason left for me to buy a Onewheel over and EUC is that it "looks" cool.
@@ImSoooRad87 I can never forget about the onewheel, wish I could. Like an abusive relationship. And I have 8k EUC miles over the last 3 years. They are just so different. For me going on a small trip the OW always wins in terms of how fun it is
I think You're right. Those compagnies only understand money and notoriety. Those are the only way customers can be heard. Kingsong Reaction is adquate because they are many actors on the market. I don't know much about One Wheel but you said there is 2 brands, right ? So no pressure on them.
Oh man, this is not good. I’m from Toronto Canada so I’m challenged with winter season. Spring is upon us so once the weather improves, I’ll be taking my Pint-X EVERYWHERE. If I start experiencing issues with my new board, I will not be looking forward to any repair services. Thanks for the video, I came across Jake Leary’s post yesterday as well relating to the customer service. This has been eye-opening so thank you. I understand both posts have been on the GT but it’s still with the same company.
I loved my time on the GT! Like I said in the video, it's a good product. But as a safety guy, I worry because my kids and their friends ride the OWs the most and I'd hate for something bad to happen to them.
Thanks for the reasonings. Really appreciate it. I was gonna order 1 this weekend but I think I'll hold off for now. I live in Canada and cannot wait an eternity to send things to get repaired and then get em back. We literally have 2 months of summer.ill rather ride something else and know it works or won't flop on me. Keep up the good work and NO! You are not overreacting at all. I'm with you 💯 🙌🏽
I was so excited to finally order a GT. But every week my ship date gets pushed back a week. And now that I'm seeing all of these videos and hearing about the inability to repair my own board, I'm having second thoughts. Luckily I have plenty of time to decide since my ship date has been pushed back almost a month since I placed my order.
100% Cancel your order. I got a DOA board and sent an email to FM on Wensday 3/30 and still haven't heard back. These issues are wide spread. It's heart breaking looking at this 35lbs expensive brick stare you in the face while you wait for "GT technician" to email you back.
I think I'm just going to take a chance and wait for it to arrive. It's already paid for, I've already recieved the accessories and the only other board I have is the Pint X. If it's DoA, I'll send it back and use the money to buy an XR. I'm just trying to stay positive and hopeful.
Depends on what’s holding you back. If it’s ghosting and DOA boards, that shouldn’t be a problem with boards shipping by the time your purchase order comes up. If your hesitations are because of the right to repair business practices, I don’t see that changing any time soon, but I hope I’m wrong.
Theres been a huge backlash from the community and FM did an apology recently. But it comes far short. It doesnt matter now anyway, because VESC DIY is now more versatile and affordable than FM will ever be. We are free to create whatever we want now. The future is very bright. And the now is funwheels and floatwheel kits and DIY thanks to advancements in vesc firmware and hardware that is moving fast.
Great video. I fully understand and it was the right thing to do. I too love the product, hate their anti Right-to-repair stance. In my situation I am just too old to sit and wait for the experience to be perfected, so I placed my bet and with 60mi on the odometer, so far I'm a winner. Even if it needed to be returned I would be OK with it, disappointed, but OK. I will say I've already registered my complaint to the FTC over their anti-consumer tactics, from warranty warning tags, to tires and bricking the battery simply by unplugging it. Note, the FTC says in their response that they do not step in to help with individual cases, they use my complaint along with others to monitor trends. So if we don't register a complaint there is no chance of change.
Thanks Jimmy for talking about the right to repair. I was initially really excited about the one-wheel because of how well built it is and how combined with modifications it can last for years of fun. Unfortunately FM seems to be going in a totally different direction. I would love to buy a Pint for my kids but will not do so unless FM becomes more repair friendly.
By the time I got the XR, it was literally a month away before the GT’s announcement. I kicked myself hard. Looking back now, I probably would’ve gotten an electric unicycle at a slightly higher price.
Thank you for sharing this! I didn’t read through all the comments, so you may have answered it if so, but I was actually wanting to know the brand and model of that awesome knife your friend Nathan let you use!! Thank you in advance for letting me know!!
Great video man now if everyone would get on board with this fm would have to change the right to repair because if they didn't they would go out of business
Wasn’t clickbait, it was articulated well. I don’t comment and like. But I did here. Thanks Jimmy, I watch your stuff here and there, especially when I think it applies to me. Thanks
I respect this decision, Jimmy, and I hope your video aids in changing future Motions practice. That being said I do have 100 miles on my GT and haven't had an issue yet. It's a great board but needs digital tuning and of course a right to repair when things inevitably need replacing.
I made one myself and to my surprise, no ghosting after a whole season. I can change tire myself, put a bigger batterie, and improve firmware not worries, no bricking. It does not look premium and surely doesnt ride as well, Still, I have lot of good memories riding it.
I could imagine a safety tether like the ones on waverunners would be a good option for these kind of devices. Rider gets too far from board and it shuts down. Could also use some kind of wireless signal... but tether would be the best.
If you ask me, what they need to have is a Neodymium magnet sensor, and then strap on a neodymium magnet to the sole of the shoe. Its the same sensor that activates the regenerative braking on my cheapy electric scooter. Pretty much infallable. They could even have a multi-sensor, where the sensors are staggered. If you slowly lift up (say your heel), it will sense that. If you completely break the connection, it will sense that as well.
I just got mine a couple weeks ago and have only rode it probably 50 miles, footpad sensor being unsensitive is the only complaint I have. Rides fine so far🤞🤞🤞
Thank you so much for talking about this disappointing topic. FM has locked down their most anticipated model while simultaneously locking out their most loyal customers while depressing current riders and confusing others. When the specs were released I knew they were in trouble. I thought it was about creativity and expression with these boards, apparently that’s not the case. This is the reason I haven’t purchase an XR or GT. I’m all Pint (1st Gen) until I see some some positive changes in their ethos. FM can’t be everything to everyone. Let the folks mod. Period. They’re getting greedy and it’s unbecoming. Ask JW Batteries if you think I’m lying.
I’ve been away from the whole onewheel scene for a while, since my Gen 1 stopped working, and I haven’t really been able to afford a new one. This is really disappointing to me, I won’t be buying any future motion products until they change their practices.
Jimmy, your an influencer/beta tester. Your doing the right thing in protecting yourself, your family, friends and followers. Keep up the great fun/work...✌
Yeah.. after riding and loving onewheels for 3 years I never pre-ordered the gt and glad I didn't.. I've instead moved on to eucs (got my first in the begode rs high torque) and it's infinitely superior as an upgrade.. the gt is a huge disappointment and underwhelming in its specs let alone all the issues it comes with.. my euc has 3x the gt torque, and double the gt range and top speed.. no contest.. and I'm happy to report now that the euc is finally clicking (much, much steeper and longer learning curve than the onewheel) the carving on the euc is just as satisfying on the euc as the onewheel.. my euc is 3rd generation in its model.. never preorder first generation pevs
I totally understand but as the owner of both an EUC and now two OneWheels, they are not the same thing. You don't upgrade to an EUC from a OneWheel, you simply move on to a different experience, IMHO. That would be like saying that I upgraded from a nice sports car to a nice sports bike, not the same.
@@oldretireddude maybe.. maybe not.. in terms of range, torque and top speed alone (not having to get off and carry up very steep hills like I do with the onewheel and being able to ride further and deeper into nature, let alone riding above 30mph which is more thrilling) it IS an upgrade.. especially since as an experienced onewheeler myself (over 3500 miles on onewheels) and still ride with my onewheel community mostly still at 200 pounds the euc allows me ti ride with the fastest onewheelers (and I ride with some of the fastest onewheelers in the world including Floaty McFly) or faster with zero worries about nose diving or the power cutting out - that IS an upgrade to me also (which a year ago on my onewheel caused me to shatter my clavicle in 4 places requiring 2 titanium plates and 23 screws and also breaking 4 ribs..I believe that even though the onewheel is slower it's more dangerous than the euc that goes faster as the onewheel has a nose that digs in and abruptly brings to a much faster decelerate halt than the euc ever will.. how hard you decelerate in a crash is the difference between breaking bones or walking away unscathed..both are futuristic single wheeled floaty devices.. the onewheel more floaty the euc is more like flying.. both are thrilling in their own ways and there are pros and cons to each but at this point there are unquestionably more pros to eucs.. I'll still always ride my cbxrs casually as they feel like 'home' but for maximum thrills the euc is it for me now.. the only thing appealing about the gt is that it's much harder to nose dive and is therefore much safer but the torque is underwhelming after my euc. Tried it on some slopes and still nose dives.. not that impressive to me as someone at 200 pounds and 6'3 tall. I'll stick to my faster, longer ranged cbxrs that have far more third party mods available when I'm not riding eucs
You aren't overreacting at all. Everything you cited as a reason for return made sense. Can't blame you for returning. Especially since it was still in the box. Maybe that delay in shipping was a blessing in disguise!
Hey Jimmy, respect for standing by your values. You're definitely not alone from what I've seen from the community. Side question, I'm looking to buy a Onewheel from a local skate shop as I feel a bit better buying from a local vendor than FutureMotion at this current time. Budget is a bit of a concern, but would you suggest the Pint X or XR for a brand new rider? Pint X is definitely more in my budget, but I'm 6'0", 250 with a size 13 shoe so I've always heard that the XR is better for bigger riders. Any feedback would be appreciated, great content as always Jimmy!
@@freshlycharged ahh I see, I did see that FM discounted their boards towards the end of its lifecycle. The vendor that's closest to me (Chicago) is still selling the XR at its MSRP of $1800. I'm leaning towards the Pint X as a slightly more affordable board to train on until, as you had mentioned, the GT has shown to be a more reliable, and hopefully, consumer-friendly product.
I would save the couple hundred more and DEFINITELY get the XR! You will appreciate it a lot more. I got the Pint X and instantly regretted not getting the XR especially after finding out they were discontinued. The Pint X is too small and squirrely because of the rounded tire. You're a bigger guy so definitely go XR!
XR. Older Hardware. 4210 or older, if you can get it. You'll find out why soon after having it. I have both. Xr and pint. The taller you are and the bigger your feet, the wobblier the ride. Pint's wheel is narrower which contributes to the more unstable ride. Still fun, though. But don't trust me, or anyone else, not even Jimmy (no disrespect). Go and rent them at 'friend with a' if you are in the States, or some shop. Hop on and evaluate. Nobody can tell you how you'll feel on it. As for my opinion, I prefer the bigger board and I'm not even that tall.
Nice video Jimmy. I agree with your reasons for sending it back. I have the same reservations about my Inmotion V12 (Batch 2). I bought it thinking it was more reliable than my One wheel XR, but now I am afraid to ride it until the MOSFET issue is sorted out.
Respect dude, was soo disappointed with hearing about this stance from FM for a product I love. I was stunned when I heard about it from Louis a week or so back. Last company I was expecting to him to mentiion in compariosn to Apple. :( I was close to getting a GT but just won't now unless I hear about a paradigm shift.
No, I think your decision makes a lot of sense. If I had not already received my GT accessories from them over a month ago here in Sweden, I would cancel my whole order especially as they indefinitely keep changing my shipping dates! Most frustrating!!! I suppose the positive way of thinking is that the longer it takes, hopefully, the less chance of getting one of those boards with problems!🙏🏾

The main reason is FM's total disrespect for customers and anti-right to repair practices.
Wow... just learning about your amazing story through your channel!
@@freshlycharged Thansk bro.
There are
Many other electric alternatives available. Spend your $ elsewhere.
I've been asked how the return went. Here's my experience returning a brand new Onewheel GT that's never been ridden:
FM did not respond to my requests for a return via email for 6 days.
😬
So returning it cost you $110? That sucks 😖
That is so unfortunate because I really liked my pint I think I’m going with a different product like the scooter
Thanks for the info.
@@freshlycharged I'll draft up a list, actually. I hope you don't mind me making your idea into a video.
Mario coming in with the video clips!
@@TheBoardGarage hahah I instantly thought of you when I saw the knife collection pop up as well haha
This whole thing just breaks my heart. Jimmy, my man, you’re the one who got me into Onewheels with your videos years ago. So sad to see this, but I can’t argue your points. Here’s to hoping we see some change from FM soon 🍻 I want to love their company again
I appreciate that. I still have 3 Onewheels to ride. I'm gonna hold off on the GT till they work out the bugs and till FM starts making some changes.
@@freshlycharged do you have the pint x
Same! Although it started with a conversation from a co-worker, it's this channel that I pursued to purchase a used OneWheel through facebook.
Yes, still have it.
Can’t enjoy a sport invented by a now business suit wearing big wig- big shot with billions in onewheel pre order money from hopeful idiots.
Fire + EUCs also take off and spin into anything and anyone when they fail. But it’s my favorite of all PEVs.
FMs getting a lot of attention with right to repair and I don’t think the momentum is slowing. We’ll see how they respond.
@@kentfield2205 indeed. & so far so sad
Same here. Enjoying my XR . Always cautious of new products anyways.
Thank you!
Hi Jimmy,
I am the Machinist for Kiil Guards, I recently did a VESC on my XR, and I'm pretty sure I'll be setting up Dustins (one of the Kiil owners) board up the same as mine. I would love to see more people switching over to VESC, it gives you all the freedom to do what you want with the board. I built a 18s battery for mine, and Dustin has attested to my board being more powerful than a GT with the ride of a XR with a little more aggressive tune than mission. For the price to find a BMS, i was able to switch over the the VESC and also build my battery, I really hope we can get more people doing this, and showing off the true potential of not being locked in to a company that clearly cares more about the dollar than anything else!
awesome
Thank you Trenton. The Onewheel community needs more DIY makers and enthusiasts.
It wont be long before a DIY onewheel outperforms the FM version, with reliability, spare parts you can buy and mod to suit your own style.
It is people like you bringing that happy day closer. 👍
Maybe Jimmy could do an interview with you and your DIY onewheel setup? 🤔👍
Do you have any videos? 👀
Where can I get more info about this?
thanks for taking a stance on this. you're one of the pillars of the OW community, and your voice is very important to this issue. hope FM actually listens to all the feedback they're getting from their community and creators.
I appreciate that!
Tell me more. I want to hear about this ghost!
@@CodySims Thankfully you're OK, brand new products coming off production line with so many problems isn't a sign of the quality they preach.
@@bkanegson They ignored my first refund request, sent a shipping label for repair. I didn't fight it because I guess I'm just dumb and still wanted it to work out.
Smart to wait for them to work out the issues.
I feel like FM replaced the XR with the GT simply to lock down on third party. It doesn't even perform significantly better than an XR, especially a modded one.
It's not that much better, they changed both wheel and tire to lock any tire replacement that isn't from them and of course the battery BMS fiasco.
Oh shoot! Get well soon!
It's a bold statement to send back a unopened device but I agree with your reasons ! most people would try to deal with the consequences because they're so excited about the GT . Good for you. we need to keep pushing against FM until they decide to do something. Enough is enough !
A part of me really wanted to open the boxes thinking maybe FM had thrown in some swag. I will never know...
@@freshlycharged I hear you. Free swag isn't worth a thing for a company that acts the way they do.
I'm sure that voids the warranty, too.
Woof I’m glad I watched this video. I’m in Ireland and it would have been an absolute nightmare to order one. I had put off getting an XR because I knew the GT was coming. Thanks Jimmy, you saved me a lot of money and a potential big headache.

Very eloquently put, thank you for your take on this matter.
The shirt reveal at the end was the icing on the cake!
Glad you liked it!
Wow. Didn’t know that history. And then there was the ghosted board with the gallon of milk!

I was initially
really excited about the one-wheel because of how well built it is and
how combined with modifications it can last for years of fun.
Unfortunately FM seems to be going in a totally different direction. I
would love to buy a Pint for my kids but will not do so unless FM
becomes more repair friendly.
Appreciate the support!
By the time I got the XR, it was literally a month away before the GT’s announcement. I kicked myself hard. Looking back now, I probably would’ve gotten an electric unicycle at a slightly higher price.

Great video man now if everyone would get on board with this fm would have to change the right to repair because if they didn't they would go out of business
And if everyone returned their board, UPS and FedEx would come out the biggest winner!
I love your right-to-repair stand! Not only there is no inovation in new modes, you can't even fix it yourself.
Thank you for making this video and for returning it. FM ghosting in 2 ways and making it exponentially proprietary is unacceptable imo 😕
It's a great board but needs digital tuning and of course a right to repair when things inevitably need replacing.
you a savage riding the wheel by that water with the ghosting issues, TRUE G
I canceled my order. No regrets
I made one myself and to my surprise, no ghosting after a whole season.
I can change tire myself, put a bigger batterie, and improve firmware not worries, no bricking.
It does not look premium and surely doesnt ride as well, Still, I have lot of good memories riding it.
You made a OneWheel clone?
I could imagine a safety tether like the ones on waverunners would be a good option for these kind of devices. Rider gets too far from board and it shuts down. Could also use some kind of wireless signal... but tether would be the best.
Was thinking the same, magnetically attach the tether for auto breaking.
yes, same as a motorcycle, dead man switch.
Has FM corrected the issues? Is the current GT shipping with those same problems?
The problems have been fixed!
I just got mine a couple weeks ago and have only rode it probably 50 miles, footpad sensor being unsensitive is the only complaint I have. Rides fine so far🤞🤞🤞
Love the Ending !!!
I’m just gonna say,
Nathan is flexing with that 3g knife 😂👌🏼
No lie, I got my Sherman Max EUC from E-Wheels with their custom battery packs due to all these issues
How's the sherman max doing for ya?
You’re right about returning it, good on you mate 👍
Thanks for the support. Pint X and XR (which is discontinued) should be priced around the same at this point.
@@theone2be33 that's great feedback, thank you for sharing that! Hearing your experience I think I may go XR afterall!
Thanks so much for this video. You help me so much. Good video.
I love the (functional) product! But the company has some obvious questionable values to me.
I appreciate your detail and reasoning, thank you! Going to stay with the XR and pray i dont ever have to get it repaired
